The ambiance was super cool. Fairly clean and tidy. The service was friendly, pretty casual paced. There is a sign that says they're short staffed but with only three tables it was pretty slow. ALL of my food came out at once. I just couldn't get into it. Everything was bland and flavorless. Didn't eat my salad. I just kept eating the ramen hoping it would improve. May return and try something else. Meal was $33.78 plus tip.

I am so happy I was able to try this little gem before leaving the Cypress area!!! Everything from the warm greetings to the cute decor made the ambiance great. My husband and I took advantage of the HH menu (3-630 pm Mon- Sat??). I really enjoyed the Hot girl roll, the crazy tuna roll (fav roll), calamari, edamame, house salads, and a variety of sushi pieces. My absolute fav was the WHITE TUNA!!!!! It melted in my mouth so we ordered like 5 pieces hahaha. All of this food came out to be $67. Not bad at all! I hope to be able to visit this place again!!! The food and service were amazing!

Food is great! Price is great! David is the greatest sushi chef in Cypress. Can't give this place a high enough recommendation!

Ordered sushi from Gina Japanese last night. Called for take out and dinner was ready in about 15 minutes. Employees and guests are required to wear masks and they are not serving customers at their sushi bar. There are a couple of seats outside, which would be nice with a byob bottle of saki when the temperatures in Houston start to cool off. Dinner was packed beautifully and was delicious. I ordered the Trio Sushi Dinner. Three pieces of tuna, salmon and yellowtail sushi and a spicy tuna roll served with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. And I ordered the Gyoza, pan fried pork dumplings. My husband and I shared the take out and found it was more than enough for the two of us. Next time I want to try the house special rolls.

Visit was November 16, 2020 for dinner. They offer dine in and there's parking available but no full bar but you can bring your own bottle and they provide cups/glasses. The sushi is of average quality and reasonable priced. The staff does provide good effort to have a good dining experience. Due to COVID-19 everything is limited but that's obviously not their fault.

I brought my Ma and Gramps out for lunch. Since he's moved down here, I've been taking him out to different places to try new foods and whatnot. He wasn't sure if he was about the sushi or not, so we gave it a shot. None of us had been to this joint before, so it was nice for everyone to try something new. Of course I order far more than I need to, and ate all of it. I go the gym so I can eat. It is known. Started with Edamame which is always a solid. Gramps was about it. We also ordered the Calamari. Normally I'm not a fan of the large rings, but this was really cooked well, and I enjoyed. Ma and gramps did as well. Appetizers = Great. For the main eats, Gramps got the chicken Katsu dinner portion, and my Ma and I stuck with the Sushi. I get my manners, and the bottomless pit of a stomach from my gramps. He of course kept eating our food, and ended up bring his own home in a box. He now likes sushi. We ordered the King Crab Role, very good. Shrimp tempura, fresh mango topped with spicy king crab & tobiko. Normally I don't do shrimp or crab, but I wanted to get something gramps might enjoy if he wasn't about the raw fish. That man treated it like finger food and just kept scooping them up. Lover Roll was very good, Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado & asparagus with soy paper. Marina Bay Roll was probably my favorite. Tuna, salmon, mango inside, topped with spicy salmon & sliced avocado. All of us enjoyed it. I had a spider handroll on the side for myself, it was on-point. The food was fantastic. Ya'll know I'm about the service, and I think service here was above par. Henry was everywhere. He had the menu knowledge, he made sure everyone had what they needed, and frequently stopped by to check. Great attitude great service. Only two items of contention. The price was a bit high $17 a roll for crab and shrimp is a bit steep. Price is what took the last star. There is competition that is cheaper around that area. Other item is that the tea cups don't have handles. That's not abnormal or a problem for me. However, rolling with the old man, he had to use a towel to pick up the cup because it was a bit too hot for him to handle. This is one of those things that I never would have thought of without having been there to experience it. Worth having a small set with handles for those that need it, I think. Great place, need to come back for lunch or happy hour.

We came here to try out the ramen. They have two offerings - Spicy Miso Ramen and Tonkatsu Ramen. It's not on their regular menu, but written up on the board at the back of the restaurant. Unlike specialized ramen restaurants, there are no options here for additional noodles or toppings. Fortunately, you do get a decent sized portion for $10.95. Each big bowl even comes with a whole egg, instead of just half that other places typically provide. Both types of ramen here are served with the thick wrinkled noodles (which we like), instead of the thinner straight noodles that are typically found in Tonkatsu Ramen. Overall, we enjoyed the ramen here. One star is deducted for inconsistency in the Tonkatsu Ramen. We ordered two bowls, and the broth in one was surprisingly much saltier than the other.

One of the best Japanese restaurants around me. Always get the Shaggy Dog roll which is super good-pretty spicy. I also had the Tempura vegetables and those were amazing! When ordering the sushi rolls, you always get 8 perfectly rolled sushi. Really vibrant flavor. They also have a really nice and caring staff, always asking if you need anything else. Kind of pricey, but what sushi or Japanese restaurant isn't? Not really busy throughout the days on Monday through Thursday, which is nice because they work really fast. When ordering on the phone, it usually takes about 10-15 minutes to make the sushi. The inside of Ginza is really nice and furnished, well put together-surprisingly doesn't have an overwhelming smell of fish when you first walk in. Very minimal artificial lighting with the front wall being all windows for natural lighting.The store owner is really nice but doesn't speak English that well. Overall, every experience I've had there is really great. read more

This was my boyfriend and I's first time in here on a whim. The atmosphere was fantastic and the sushi was delicious! The modern take on the sushi bar sticks out far more than your regular sushi bar down the street and the staff are amazingly friendly and personable. Our waiter Louis spent as much time as it took to make us feel welcome and we will definitely ask for him in the future. The sweet shrimp is to die for! read more

The restaurant owner is from my hometown Taiwan and definitely knows well about making sushi with fresh fish. The sushi rice is also high quality and my kids just love their fried rice! We also enjoy having sake here. It goes well with yummy sushi! read more

Fantastic sushi and edamame. Their "spicy" edamame is the best. We always get an assortment of rolls and each time, we wish we would have ordered more because they're so good! Also tried the vegetable tempura - that one is delicious too! We like the Green River, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, Crazy Tuna rolls. They are all good. Our favorite for a Friday night sushi order and they deliver too! read more

This is by far one of the best places I have ever gone to eat at. The sushi was AMAZING!! Also the service there was by far the best I had recieved compared to any other resteraunt. I was treated very well by not only the server there, but also the sushi man; he was very enjoyable. It's a must, to go eat at ginza in the afternoon before there lunch specials end. They have great deals if your on a budget and even better selections of sushi if you arent. Everything was freshly served and I just can't say it enough, but this place was AMAZING! I hope everyone elses experience is just as great as mine was. read more

Honestly this place is wonderful. The owners are so attentive to the customers, they go above and beyond to make sure you're satisfied. The food is delicious, and its honestly the best sushi I've ever had. I usually get the salmon sashimi, it's so divine and melts in my mouth and another great dish is the fried rice, they use sushi rice so its hearty and large portions. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Highly recommend this place. read more

I have been here several times. I can tell you this sushi and restaurant is THE BEST I have had anywhere. I live in San Antonio and only come to houston on business trips and make this my only place to stop for food. I have even come all the way over here just to eat the delicious food they serve. The owner and staff are without a doubt some of the best I've come across. They are always friendly and willing to go above and beyond to make sure you appreciate good food and good service. Sometimes the wait is long but I guarantee it to be worth your while if you are patient. Being someone who looks for things to fix, I honestly have not found anything bad to say about this place and the people that work here. I will keep coming for years. read more

I have to agree with the other rave reviews...this place is a gem. Ever since moving to the 'burbs we have really not found many good sushi spots. This place is legit. Clean, great menu, great fish, and wonderful service. Great lunch menu with wonderful presentation of food. Really the fish is perfect tasting and the sushi rice is done right! Do yourself a favor and go here. Just went again...literally the best sushi on the north side...actually is totally better than most within the city also...and I've tried them all! read more

Came here on a recommendation. We were all pleased with our sushi selections. Everything was very fresh and delicious. We will definitely be returning. The service was prompt and very friendly. Not sure if it is family owned and operated but surely left with that impression . They also offer an extra 10% off on take out orders. Loved this place ! read more

Today was their grand opening and I'm so glad they opened! My fiancee and I have been searching for a GREAT sushi restaurant. It's even better that they're near by. We ordered miso soup, gyoza pan fried, the fantastic roll, the lover roll, and their vanilla fried ice cream. Fantastic roll has shrimp tempura, avocado, mango, and spicy tuna wrapped in soy paper. The lover roll has tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and asparagus wrapped in soy paper as well, they placed them both on the same plate and it came with the normal ginger and wasabi, but also a sauce which was quite tasty, I want to say it's a sirachi/wasabi mixture. The fried ice cream was also very good, they topped it with slice green apple, strawberry slices, and chocolate drizzle. Everything was awesome as well as the service. I hope they keep up the freshness and good service, I'd love to come back again and have the same experience, hopefully we can make that our sushi spot! read more

We walked in not sure what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised! Only having had sushi one other time I wasn't sure what to get. The staff was great and helped us decide what to get, the crazy chef made our experience great. We talked saki and he even lent me two cups and saki vase to take home and return at my convenience. I had take out once since, waiting for them to re-open after HARVEY I need my sushi fix!!! read more

I have had dinner at Ginza Japanese Restaurant multiple times. Everything I have tried has been excellent and top quality, no small detail is overlooked. The atmosphere is a place I can visit every night. The staff is like family that always make you feel at home. My favorite place to get sushi. Always great service, and great full flavor food. I dont even order any more. They always have a new creation for me to try. The rock shrimp is a great value for the size and price, and always hot and yummy. If you complain about this place you should probably stick with grocery store sushi, cause you can't appriciate quality. read more

We decided to try this new place and were not disappointed. Their sushi was fresh and the staff was extremely nice. They had a nice selection of sushi and everything was great. They have a by on policy (yay) and they even let us sample the dessert on the house. We sat at the bar area and talked with the staff. Definitely will be back! read more

Excellent. First visit tonight. Chicken teriyaki was well cooked and very tasty. Sashimi 15 piece very fresh and flavorful esp fatty tuna! Miso soup excellent. Salad a little overdone with sauce. Note: no alcohol license yet, but appears to be BYO. One improvement required - booths are uncomfortable and booth units move around. Needs to be fixed / replaced. read more

Great, fresh fish, well-priced. Had a piece of toro (belly fatty tuna), mmmmm. Server made recommendation on how to eat it and he was spot on. Service is great, VERY clean and nice here. I got in at 530, ahead of the crowd. Highly recommend this place for sushi! read more

Been back here twice actually, since that last review. Once bc family wanted to, and another with husband. There's no bad smell at all; maybe it was that one time. But food is still fine, nothing too special. I do really appreciate their friendly and attentive service and how clean the restaurant and dinnerware look! read more

There was a good amount of beef, and the crispy--possibly garlic or onions on top was a great addition. The amount of food on the plate was just right. I couldn't give it a full 5 stars because the service was only good when the server was actually there. I think there were 2, maybe 3 servers, with the restaurant about 70% full. We took some extra time to order, but it also took a while for someone to come back and take our order. It took a while to get a refill, and there were noticeable delays whenever we needed a server. The joy on my friend's faces while eating confirmed for me that this was the right place to go. I always try to stop by when I'm in the area. Figured it would be too late for dinner after the show so I went before and am glad that I did! Easy to find on the east side of the outlet mall and right off of the old Hempstead Highway, now 290. I was there at 5:30 and only a few people inside dining or having a drink. My server was Everado and he was great. I ordered a glass of the Imagery Pinot Noir. I was in real luck as it was Happy Hour with some great discount prices on several of their appetizers, sushi and sashimi. I decided to try the soft shell crab appetizer and it came out so quickly. It was crispy and super fresh, perfectly paired with the wine I had ordered. I love Japanese restaurants like this, especially when they aren't supper busy. You can take your time, order a thing or two and peruse the menu and pick something else at your leisure. My next treat was one of their "signature appetizers" and it was great, what was described on the menu as a tuna and salmon martini! Wow, it tasted as good as it looked and not only had fresh sashimi slices of tuna and salmon but also meaty escolar. In the center was a creamy mix of wasabi, ginger topped with some tobiko, the small orange fish roe. Talk about a real culinary treat! Next up was a special house roll called the Pink Lover Roll which was a roll with chopped spicy salmon, tuna, yellow tail, tempura jalapeno and avocado with spicy mayo, eel sauce and honey wasabi. The portion was huge and really could have fed 2 people. I enjoyed it but found the sauces over the top a bit too much. It was spice but not too hot. Glad I tried it but would opt for something different next time and surely not as large! Last thing ordered was the Hibachi Combo Yakisoba dinner entree. Had it not been for the large previous roll I ate I would have devoured this as it was fresh off the hibachi grill and full of shrimp and beef as well as a lively assortment of crisp vegetables. It came with a pleasant miso soup, the perfect thing between courses. Alas, I ended up taking half of my yakisoba home for a future lunch. The restaurant is nicely decorated, very clean and sharp. You can sit at at table, booth or at the bar, I chose a table. Restrooms were clean and easy to find. In the end my lovely dinner was just under $100 plus a 20% tip for great service so not a place you might go to casually in regard to cost but still worth the trip as everything was fresh and well presented.

Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. It felt like we were being rushed, which was frustrating considering we made a reservation and waited just like everyone else. Our server's demeanor came across as rude at times, although it's possible she may have been new. For example, when she asked if we were ready to order, we began listing our items, but she abruptly told us to hold on because she wasn't ready. Later, when I finished my tea, she informed me that refills would cost extra, which I didn't mind paying for, but the way it was communicated felt unnecessarily harsh. To add to that, when I tried to pay with Apple Pay, her card reader wasn't working properly, and instead of resolving it at the table, she asked me to get up and pay at the front register. Overall, the food was excellent, but the service and communication could use improvement. A more welcoming and patient approach would make a big difference in the overall experience.

Agree with Miki (see updated review, below). "Ken" was the proud owner of this restaurant and he left sometime around January 15, 2017, under circumstances shrouded in a mystery befitting of a John le Carre novel. We were regulars and arrived a few days ago for an evening meal. We entered into a surreal situation in which all the familiar faces of the staff inside were replaced by a bunch of young, hip, brash newbies. It was as if we had gone through a time warp and arrived in the future. We were strangers and so were they. Once seated, a waiter ran up to take our beverage order. I asked about Ken, the answer was at first "Who?" Then it became "Oh, "K-eeeeee-nnnnnnnnnn! He is on vacation and we're filling in!". We thought that was strange, considering that it was Ken's restaurant and that we had just spoken to Ken roughly two weeks earlier while seated in the same spot. Another waiter brought our Cokes and I asked him about Ken. His answer was that he "went to New York to visit family". When yet another server arrived with our order, I asked him about Ken, and his answer was that he "went to China and won't be back". These answers were provided on the same evening by different staff, so clearly no one decided to get the story straight. We still wonder: What is the story and who has the right answer? Or are all the answers right (he first went on vacation, then went to New York, then went to China...?) Either way, it felt weird. We got the feeling that no one wanted to talk about Ken. But when you take over a restaurant abruptly from an owner who had a customer base, you probably should be prepared to say something about and respect that former customers are going to ask about the previous owner... Anyway, the sushi served was not the sushi that would have met Ken's standards. The nigiri and maki sushi were prepared by a chef who possibly is afflicted with Parkinson's: The fish was sloppily placed over rice such that it touched the plate; the rolls were cut to all manner of different thicknesses. The rolls also were stuffed with more rice than the way Ken made them. As Miki pointed out, they had run out of some food items we wanted, ikura being one of them. Service was slow, and the waiter we had was exceedingly impatient and seemed distracted. The warmth and cozy ambiance provided by the previous owner is gone. Only the same furniture and furnishing remain as a reminder of what the place used to be. The restaurant IS NOT INEXPENSIVE. It doesn't have a liquor license due to its proximity to a school (you can bring your own alcohol), so probably it has to maintain prices. The problem is that these prices are what you would expect to pay at Uchi or some other higher-end sushi restaurants. The portions, presentation, and service don't, in this reviewer's humble opinion, warrant maintaining the same prices set by former proud-owner Ken. When the table near us paid, they were offered a loyalty card (after 10 stamps you get a discount, if it works the same way Ken's card did). We then waited 18 minutes for our check. Upon payment, our waiter did not offer the loyalty card to us. But that didn't matter: We won't be back. read more

I love this restaurant! My Daughter and I come here with my parents often and we are treated like family. The owners treat my daughter as if they were related. We feel so at home and it is such a cozy atmosphere and relaxed. They also have the no rice rolls I love, great dumplings my daughter loves, and my parents love all of their rolls too. My parents started going here because I highly recommended it. They are older and very picky and they even love it! It is one of our favorite date night places. Amazing Amazing!!! This was my first visit, and it was delightful! This cozy restaurant sets a perfect ambiance for a romantic evening or a double date. The decor, featuring cats and sushi, instantly won me over, being a fan of both. I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious calamari, shaggy dog, and marina bay roll - especially the marina bay roll with its delightful mango inclusion. The chef and server were incredibly friendly, and it's the first Asian restaurant where I didn't need to ask for a water refill. Hahaha! A memorable experience overall! NEVER have we gotten such generous portions of fish in a roll. Fresh fresh fresh!!! Great polite service. A true Diamond for Cypress. Try it...you won't be disappointed. We had the Peppered Tuna Roll; Tokyo Roll; AAC; Ginza Roll and Sushi Pizza. All were fresh, delicious and prompt. This was our 5th visit and we find it to be consistent and does not disappoint. It is now on our minimum of weekly visits. Lunch specials and Happy Hour specials are not to be missed as well. Truly GREAT!! read more
