We went with the Akashí signature roll and it was crunchy and delicious. We also got the garlic chicken and it was !!!! The beef was sooooo tender on the Mongolian beef! We also enjoyed some Sake with our meal. The only comment that I'll say is that the rice was not very good. The fried rice didn't have much flavor. My aunt booked this place for her birthday dinner. you would think they only take rsvp by the limited tables they had out. the food was ok, the salt and pepper calamari batter was a little to grainy for my liking and it was too salty. the Baked mussels were good but too saucy. I got the tuna sashimi and spicy chopped scallop nigiri. the spice on the chopped scallops were kinda over powering and it made it not as enjoyable. My boyfriend got the Rock & Roll roll and he didn't like how they were shiest with the sauce on top, overall, the roll was okay. the service was really slow. Ambiance: Really nicely decorated interior space with a bar area, booths, and tables. Great date night spot or perfect for a family get together. The bar area was spacious and intimate feeling with tons of wines and an area to sit at the sushi bar. Loved the food - unique sushi roll choices and tons of appetizers/fried rice/entrees available. The plates came out beautifully as well. The main reason I am not giving more stars is because it took us about 30-40 minutes to get the check and pay out. The appetizers were the best thing here, and they were actually very good. However the main dishes were a major let down in almost every way possible. First off, they came out extremely cold. If I didn't know better I would have questioned if that was on purpose. The flavor was okay, nothing special, but could have been saved a little if they were actually spicy. One has the word in its name, and we still asked for it to be extra, and the other we asked for extra spicy as well. Neither came out as such. The server was nice and pleasant but not very attentive. I really like this restaurant. The atmosphere, bar and service are 5 star but tonight I had the crispy duck and it's 3 stars at best. Worst duck I've ever had at any restaurant. I really like Akashi! I ventured in for lunch a few times since it's close to the job. Decor - shockingly beautiful and unexpected. They didn't skimp and you wouldn't expect such modern and fancy looking decor in a shopping center especially. The food I've found to be more delicious than not. My favorite roll is the rock & roll. It never disappoints but I also like the salmon nigiri and find it to be fresh each time. I don't really eat too much of the standard Americanized lunch specials but my coworkers haven't complained. The service has been on point. I had an old lady when I first came and she was an absolute hoot. I wrote her name in the tips section but unfortunately I haven't seen her lately. There is a younger guy, not sure of his race (he looks multi-racial with curly hair) but he's really good. Dude doesn't write anything done and with a table of 6, he didn't miss a beat. Okay, after about my 7th visit I've come to the conclusion that maybe I like this place. No let me come back seven more times because this is one of those places that you could visit at least one day off every week. It's surprisingly good from A to Z. The interior is very nice, it does not scream "Leave a downpayment to eat here", here is where I would definitely take a first date. No silent "Guh!" here when you are looking at the menu. Be aware that this is a new establishment so you will not be disappointed with worn down anything in here. The staff each time I've visited here have always been on top of things without being intrusive. From the looks of the interior of this establishment, it could hold probably about 50 people comfortably. There is a bar where you can sit at and stare with puppy dog eyes.... Ok, that's a little bit overboard so do as you please. There are regular tables and booths for your seating pleasure. There is even an outside patio which I have not seen anybody utilize yet since this is in the middle of winter time. The one thing you must, I repeat you must try is the spicy edamame. That is one of those things that every restaurant has their signature crack sauce in. Try it, you will not be disappointed. All of the other foods that I've tried like the cowboy roll, rock and roll, pork and broccoli plate, fried rice and other menu participants have never disappointed me. Parking is plenty here, even during peak times even though it shares the parking lot with adjoining businesses. I would say is Fuji's would be the closest competitor down the road. read more

I was not really impressed with this sushi spot which is modern and sort of fancy on the inside, but they're a far cry from a traditional sushi restaurant, with almost no privacy. It is obvious who this restaurant caters to. Akashi restaurants have been popping up all over the Houston area over the last couple of years, not sure how many locations they are up to, but this one is supposedly labeled as a bistro and is the first time I've ever visited. I came on a Friday night right before closing and it was still fairly busy. I ordered a couple of nigiri and 2 rolls and didn't really think any of the nigiri was anything special. Neither of the rolls (Mango Tango and Out of Control) were that great either. Then again I think the problem with the Out of Control roll is that it just uses too much bland tuna. I happened into this sushi restaurant on the recommendation of a coworker. He had been here the night before and my colleagues and I decided to give it a shot for dinner. We were not disappointed. Even though this was positioned inside of a strip mall right next to the freeway the ambience inside was delightful. Lots of room high ceilings clean table and various paintings sculptures and other Japanese knickknacks that made the inside enjoyable. The appetizers that we purchased were fresh and tasted good and we're out fairly quickly. Several of us also ordered a few bottles of wine and some beer which were standard offerings in any sushi restaurant nothing in particularly special or exotic. When the sushi boat finally started rolling out the amount and the texture and flavor of each was extraordinary. Who knew you could get such super fresh sushi in Houston. We must've ordered three boats as well as several different platters of sushi as you can see from the pictures and we were all very stuffed. And all they were 11 of us that shared all of this wonderful seafood. It just never seems to end. Wasabi was plentiful, the soy sauce was light and that fresh ginger made everything perfect. Food is good. Would I recommend? Absolutely not. Problem was with service. We ordered a few different sushi items, a crab salad, and a tuna tower for an appetizer. When the server brought the main meal to the table, the dish had huge cracks and chips in it. Some of the chips were big enough where if you touched it you would likely cut your hand. I told the server about this and the response was "I know, I have told them before but they keep putting in through for service." To say I was amazed at this response is an understatement. No offer to speak with a manager or credit part of the check at the end of the meal either. Recommendation: don't wait for a customer to comment (or worse... get hurt) on a broken dish. read more

This place has great aesthetics and great food. They have a full bar and someone at the sushi bar at all times. Incredibly clean bathrooms and they social distance. Seems like a great place to hang out after work or on the weekends! I would've given them a 5 star based on everything above but I have them a 4 based on service. We did go for lunch at an odd time of day but the service was slow considering we were one of two tables that were taken on the entire restaurant. After we were seated our waiter took our drink order and did not return for 15 minutes. We realized it was because he and 4 other employees were in the corner taking their hour lunch at the same time. Although I am a huge proponent of making sure everyone gets adequate time for breaks and lunch, it struck me as odd they all did it at the same time. Again, I reiterate that their food is PHENOMENAL. They have the best chicken friend rice I have ever had. Plus, I went with two non sushi eaters who tried my Houston Roll and they LOVED it. 10/10 would recommend to come and try this restaurant!!
