We tried Ginza for the first time and let me just say we will definitely be back !! Amazing food, fresh sushi . Price is on the higher side, and the portion isn't the biggest but the food tasted so good !! Everything was amazing , except the shrimp tempura , it had zero flavor and way too much breading , and the shumai just wasn't good at all ! The restaurant itself isn't big at all, but it felt very homey which I loved . Also our waitress was great as well. We will be back to try more items on the menu . read more

Absolutely delicious sushi!! I found this place online and wanted to give it a try. The dark romantic ambiance, super friendly staff, professional sushi chefs, and amazing quality fish gives this place a 5/5 stars! I came and dined alone at the bar and was kindly greeted by the staff and chef. They went over today's specials with me, but I ended up getting the hamachi and mackerel nigiris plus a chirashi bowl to try a variety of their raw fishes. It was all so tasty and fresh! I'd definitely come back again to try their rolls next, but I have no doubt they will be delicious too. Great spot with great people on the team! read more

There are reasons why Ginza deserves 5 stars, service being one of them and the freshness and quality of most of the fish. While the Spanish mackerel was tasty the size of the fish was quite small. Hamachi, snapper and toro were first class but the monkfish liver was definitely not. It was obvious to us the liver was not 'top of the line' as they served it in a bowl with some sort of sauce and garnish hiding the distinct flavor of the liver. The Sake selection was rather limited but we did find one to our liking. The one thing missing was Uni but we were assured that they have it most of the time. Despite the difficulties of finding good quality sushi in the desert, Ginza has quickly become our favorite spot for sushi in town! It is probably one of the best places in Tucson for fresh sushi. They offer a variety of appetizers, specialty rolls, sushi, and sashimi. We usually opt for sharing several pieces of sashimi and nigiri, but recently splurged and tried their Ginza Boat which allowed us to try a variety of pieces and was a fun experience overall. Our favorites were the tuna and the salmon which just melt in your mouth. Even though it's on the pricey side, we always leave happy and satisfied with our meal - definitely recommend coming to Ginza if you're looking for a great sushi date night spot. read more

This is a great sushi place near Sunrise and Kolb. The sushi is visually appealing, very fresh and authentic. The service is fast, courteous and attentive. It's hard to find good Uni in Tucson, but this was sweet and fresh. Not quite like the live Uni at Redondo Beach pier, but very fresh. The Uni was MP, but worth it. The Nigiri sushi was two pieces to an order and had a nice slab of fresh fish with just the right amount of wasabi between the fish and the rice. I also enjoyed the crispy Salmon skin hand roll, and the dynamite style green mussels. Did I mention the fast service? I had barely started sipping my tea when the plates began to arrive. Some friends invited us to Ginza and we had been trying to make a reservation. It was worth it. I don't think the Wagyu beef was worth the price but it was still good. Their drinks were delicious too-definitly plan on returning. read more

There are only two tables in their outdoor dining section, so arrive early or make a reservation if you want to avoid covid. Unfortunately, this restaurant's vegetarian options were underwhelming. Both the eggplant and the agedashi tofu appetizers have fish in them (bonito flakes). We had the vegetable tempura instead, which was fine, but I've had better and the sweet potato pieces were under-cooked. We ordered both the veggie roll and the veggie tempura roll, as well as the mango roll (the one veg roll in the special rolls section). To my surprise, the veggie roll and veggie tempura roll only had FIVE pieces of sushi each--at $12 for the latter roll, no less! They weren't very flavorful. The mango roll was better, as it had a sprinkling of spice on top. Sadly, it's very hard to find vegetarian sushi in Arizona but this restaurant is not the answer. (We miss you, Sushi Ichiban in Portland, OR!) read more

I would give no stars if possible. Everything was going super until my husband ordered his bowl with uni and told the server it didn't taste fresh and that he would like something else. Never in my life have I been asked to leave a place. I've traveled to Japan and throughout the world but NEVER have I had a chef bow towards me or anyone in my party because we sent back the uni that didn't taste fresh. At that the bow was unnoticed because he didn't even do it in view. Chef refused to prepare anything more for us and wished us to close our bill. Rather than the server letting us know right away he waited 15-20 minutes after being told that we would not be served anymore, we were welcome to finish my cocktail then leave. Our server acknowledged that he tried the uni himself and it indeed wasn't fresh but yet we were asked to leave. read more

Fish quality and variety is top notch here. The salmon toro dishes are particular standouts. We have only had the nigiri and sashimi but the other options I have seen arriving at surrounding tables look great. Service is really good. The decor has the vibe of what I would expect going to a strip mall sushi spot in the 80's/90's. It can be ignored for the sake of the excellent fish. The one point of improvement that could make a huge difference is the rice game here. The rice that is used for the nigiri is somewhat sub par and has been on the cold side every time we've been here. If this were managed, this is easily a five star eating experience. read more

Ginza is a restaurant I have been meaning to try for years but never got around to it. It's a bit of a drive for me and the hours are sometimes unusual. However I finally made it and it was well worth it. It's one of several restaurants in the plaza near Basha's on Sunrise and Kolb, close to Ventana Canyon. It's not a large space but tables are reasonably positioned and there's also a small outdoor dining area and a sushi bar. Service was near impeccable even on a busy weekend night. A lot of restaurants could learn a thing or two from the Ginza staff. The menu was a bit disorienting but once you figure it out it is fine. Part of the menu has photos of items that are listed elsewhere and these are useful once you connect the dots. My son and I had several of the izakaya, which are like Japanese tapas, dishes to be shared. They were often much larger in real life than what the pictures depicted so we were both full since we had ordered sushi as well. The deep fried squid was prepared differently from usual calamari, the tentacle portion being served. There was a lot to eat and they were tasty. The spicy mayonnaise sauce complimented the squid quite nicely. Tofu agadashi was very good although I prefer a little more soy sauce to the ponzu that was present. The mountain potatoes were the one dish neither of us cared for but this might be more of an acquired taste. I do not recommend this unless you have had this before and enjoy it. Overall it was not bad tasting but nothing stood out and there was a very strange clear tasteless viscous gel that reminded me of saliva. The tataki was incredibly good. Very flavorful and a fairly good portion. We tried 2 variations of the California roll and they were both delicious. We also ordered eel, egg, and tofu sushi. Overall this was a great dining experience albeit a bit expensive. Will definitely come back and Ginza is highly recommended. read more

Ginza is very close to Sabino Canyon and a tempting choice after a long hike. The restaurant is clean and modern with an extensive wine beer and cocktail list. Service is a 5 but food is a 3. We really liked our very friendly waiter. He bared with us through lots of confusing requests and didn't bat an eye. I could see him juggle multiple tables but his attention did not feel divided. The menu offers lots of Japanese items beyond your regular selection of sushi and nigiri, ex. ramen and izakaya fried foods. My 3 friends and I ordered the ginza boat at $70. The food is great, especially the seaweed salad (I was out off by it on the menu at first, but was very pleasantly surprised)! The sushi is really tasty, and holds together well. Their Izakaya menu was somewhat limited & the servers were not familiar with the soba dishes we ordered by switching it with someone else's. Otherwise, the nigiri was delicious & rolls were just right. The cocktails, wines, sake, green tea, ambiance, authenticity, check, check, check! Why am I giving them four stars then? It's just because I had lived in Tokyo for many years and have been living in NYC for few decades, my expectations in Japanese food happen to be extremely high! You can't go wrong with Ginza Sushi. There have been a couple of sushi restaurants with more creative rolls on their menu (think Mian Sushi) but they have not survived. Ginza Sushi keeps on serving up a very large selection of sushi choices, including some excellent and unique appetizers. Some of my favorites are the gyoza with shrimp, yuzu miso halibut, and the miso marinated Sea Bass. All so delicious. Don't get me wrong, their rolls are delicious, and the cuts of fresh fish are awesome. We just ate their with a friend for the umpteenth time, and I know we will be going back! read more

I want to say I love this place. But, I can't. The menu is great and the food is usually great too. It's difficult to find fresh, quality sushi in the desert. The fish and sushi we've eaten at Ginza has been very good most of the time. The problem is with the management of the restaurant and with the owner specifically. The owner treats patrons as if she is a doing favor to the customer by letting them dine at the restaurant. She is rude. They close early and refuse to let diners in sometimes as early as 8 pm. She poorly manages the tables and just last night she scoffed at and made a disgusting face and gesture to a regular customer - right in front of that customer - who sent back a dish due it's quality. As a business person, she should appreciate the value of returning customers. She should thank them for their business and understand that as diners, we have choices in where we spend our money. Don't let the good reviews fool you. Unfortunately, this place is subpar. We were a larger party of people, all disappointed with the food. The Baked Scallop Roll was not baked, perhaps the poor excuse of a "scallop" was baked, but definitely not the rest. The scallops were tiny and doused in what looked and tasted like mayonnaise. Maybe we were disappointed because we're all originally from the Bay Area, but I've had better sushi in places like South Dakota, Oregon, Washington and Nevada... even there they have fresher fish, instead of fake crab in every roll, and poor quality fish. We were on the eastside of town so Judy (the wifey) and I decided to get some good sushi, it's been awhile since we had sushi. Kind of got in the habit of frequenting a couple of other sushi places in town and forgot what great sushi is like. We ordered and enjoyed a Mango Tropical roll, Ceviche roll and a Rainbow roll along with Albacore and Salmon nigiri. Ginza is in our favorite top three restaurants in Tucson. Service is excellent, the atmosphere is great and the sushi is very good. On our latest visit we ordered what has become our go to selection: a round of Miso soup and white wine (a glass of Sauv Blanc and a Pinot Grigio... solid and inexpensive) to start. I love their Japanese scallop sushi, and just discovered their Aburi Salmon Toro; we agree that their Blue Fin Toro is excellent, and Deb loves their Alaskan and Sonoran rolls. With a few Sake - Salmon rolls we round out the sushi order. Their Banana Tempura dessert is always excellent, and this time I enjoyed their unique Green Tea Cheesecake.
