We had Gio's cater an event this past weekend for 55 people. They made the ordering process very easy, met us an hour north of the shop to drop it off, and even let me borrow their food warmer for the night! The brisket, while very flavorful, was not very tender...at least when compared to Texas bbq. Shit dude, pretty rare ocasion but i actually went here fully sober. Service was fast ngl and they gave me hella food. Ordered the pulled pork. Was honestly a 6/10. If i was bomboclatt geeked id prolly rate it a bit higher. Garlic bread had no cheese which is pretty fucked tbh. Mac and cheese was cold and clumpy so thumbs down there. Long trip from NYC to OH in one shot.. We were hungry. After finding out the place had changed hands, everything made sense. I do believe this was once award winning food but it's mostly kids running it. You get the feeling morale is just not great there and it reflects in the food. Soggy fries, Mac N cheese and vegetables that were laying around all day. The ribs, at 8 PM, were very good and we came out basically satiated. It was expensive for gas station ambience and overall quality. The takeaway is not go as late as we went because they will serve you some unremarkable sides even after you have spent good money. Midweek lunch driving through. I suggest you stop for the brisket, but beware of the onion rings. The brisket was tender with just enough bite, sauce was tangy tomato and complimented the brisket, which had a small ribbon of flavor rich fat ( can I call it that :) The onion rings were packed with grease, thick battered, and the onions were flavorless. Everything I have tried from the place is very good. The meatball sub was good, just really big meatballs, the fries are hit or miss. Very nice customer service, I appreciate the greetings I received and just asking if I needed any condiments with my meal (and not stingy with the ranch when requesting for some.) Learned in Kansas City, Kansas, that bbq at gas stations tend to be gems. This is in a gas station convenience store. Ordered the beef brisket with cole slaw. Sauce was smoky, sweet, and tangy. I didn't bother with the other sauces they had there as the original was perfect. Great meat to fat ratio and thin slices. Very filling, satisfying, and well, I want more as I write about it. Photos don't do it justice. It's not the best brisket I've ever had, but it's one of my favorites. The sandwich was $12. Water at the soda fountain is free. So are soda refills if you purchase. Staff is super nice. Order at the counter, and they'll call you or bring it your food. First come, first serve in dining area tables or counter by window. Gas is a decent price. It's a very mom & pop environment with a gas station section that I loved. The staff were very friendly & the service was very fast. However their BBQ Chicken seemed warm vs what you would expect as a right out of the grill type. Even my husband was disappointed with the temperature and was confused. Their Mac & cheese was good and you get a set of plastic silverware to use with your meal. I would say from my experience I would give it a 4 out of 10. But their cornbread was to die for though.. Don't discount this place because it's in a convenience store! My mom and I had the Catfish and it did not disappoint. It's really hard to find catfish in stores and in other restaurants so we were happy to find it on this menu. You order at the counter and then sit down until they call your number. It can get busy too! The garlic bread (which I think comes with most things) wasn't too desirable but the BBQ baked beans and the Mac and cheese were good. read more

Time for a new review. :( yuck! Unfortunately the place was sold and after eating there 4 times since the new management, I don't think I will return. The place is prettier but the food is barely edible now. The chicken was super salty and then super dry, the potato was burnt and dry, the brisket was dry, tough and bland. The coleslaw was rotten. I've driven past Gio's for years on my way to Virginia. I finally stopped and was so happy I did. I got a combination platter of brisket and Pulled pork as well as potato salad and Chili mac. Their bbq sauce is a bit tangy and I put it on everything! I'd definitely buy a bottle to take home. The counter to order is in the main store and it's easy to order and be on your way, or sit and enjoy your food. The pork was excellent. I liked the brisket, but I'd probably try the chicken next time after all of this I am reading. I could have passed on the chili mac. This is a convenient stop for both food and fuel if you are in central Pennsylvania. The huge bonus is that their food is fabulous. I ordered a full rack of ribs, which comes with their own bbq sauce. With the ribs I had garlic bread and their spaghetti salad. One of the highlights of any trip thru Pennsylvania. I thought this place was pretty darn awesome. My husband and I were traveling upstate recently and this was exactly the kind of place I was hoping to stumble across to have a nice lunch. We were not disappointed one bit. We both had brisket sandwiches with their yummy award winning BBQ sauce, and we also shared sides of potato salad, spaghetti salad (my favorite!) and the chili mac and cheese. Being out in the boonies on a long road trip doesn't mean you have to settle for convenience store food, nor fast food. There's hope for all you hangry foodies, at the end of the Shawville highway. Nice pit stop at the intersection of highway 970 and 322 highways: Gio's a BBQ joint connected to a gas station convenience store. Would recommend the ribs which are tender but not fall off the bone with a little bit of bark. They're smoky and covered with a sweet sticky sauce. Beef ribs are smoked for 4 hours while the pork ribs are smoked for 10 hours. If you like fried cabbage, you'll like their Polish Haluski (fried cabbage and noodles). Combos come with garlic bread and 2 sides. Decent food, good portions, and reasonably priced. A clean spacious dining room inside, picnic tables outside, and clean washrooms. A welcomed site from fast food joints when you're out on the road. read more

Stopped here during the 100 mile yard sale. It came highly recommended by locals and was one stop shopping. Part BBQ, part convenience store, gas station, and trip stop, this place offered it all. It was pretty busy. It was also a bit confusing inside. There's a counter with two cashiers several feet apart. It would appear at first glance that one covers the gas/convenience store purchases, and other for the BBQ orders but you can order or check out at either I was told. The menu had a nice selection of BBQ and fried offerings and a few salads. Pricing was average. The serving size was oversized, but we still both left hungry. While the BBQ we ordered - hubby a BBQ pork on top of burger, and myself a pulled BBQ pork w/ coleslaw, etc is was very one note. It lacked smoky flavor and crusty bits and basically tasted like pulled pork smothered in a store bought sauce. Nothing set it apart. I will say that I may be a BBQ snob, as I attended a national bbq competition in NYC and had bbq in the south, so I know good bbq. I was suprised to learn Gio's actually won awards because it was very unmemoriable. I will say hubby loved the seasoned fries - frozen fries with chili powder which I could barely taste and I loved his onion rings, which appeared to be from scratch. I wish I could give it more stars, but the food was cold, I know bbq can be room temperature, but the Mac n cheese was ice cold and the beans were watery. We ordered the Big Daddy sampler. The meats were smoked well and really enjoyed the ribs and the brisket. Also got the shrimp platter special which were bay shrimp deep fried with French fries was ok. Order at the counter, then they call your number when it's ready and you go pick it up yourself. There are a bunch of tables and booths. Fountain drinks are self-service but there are also drinks in the cooler. First time I was there I had the brisket sandwich and it was excellent and huge. Second time I was there I had pulled pork.
