We ordered our pizzas and they were deliciously hot and ready when we arrived for our pick up. The slices and nice and big too! Not only did the pizza travel and dish up well, we had so many happy customers. We sold out of pizza slices and called to see if they could pizza the next night for us too. 7-8 pizzas and we sold out again! Not a slice went to waste. This is not going to be a pretty review. It is a whole lot more fun to write glowing tales of great experiences, but I am sadly disappointed by Gio's Pizza. One 12" Supreme ordered on-site to go. I ordered and took a seat along the wall to wait and immediately noticed the place was filthy. The corridor to the back door looked like a badly run day care. Half eaten plates of cold food and McDonald's bags were everywhere. Children were playing in a tray of pizza dough like it was modeling clay. Disgusting, but okay, let that one go. Pizza came and I hit the road home. Opening the box, the first thing I noticed were the large par-cooked wedges of colored peppers on top of the pie. Large wedges are great in antipasto, but not so great on my pie. And I love green peppers in a supreme pizza, but properly portioned and fully cooked. Hmmm? Interesting, I thought. Open my mind and give it a try. The next thing I noticed was that Gio's had failed to cut the pie. Hmmm, again. Never seen that before in a take-out pizza. Maybe that's just how they do it. I did not ask for it to be cut. Lift the pie out of the box onto my cutting board. The bottom of the box was soaking wet. Not greasy wet, water wet. Can't explain the physics of this one, but my disappointment was mounting and the product becoming increasingly suspect. These folks advertise "New York style crispy thin crust". Definitely not. Good crust, but nowhere near thin and crispy. Gotta give Gio's five stars on their pizza sauce. As good as it gets. Tossing the par cooked peppers, the pie was excellent for what it was with one picky exception. Their ham is portioned into small cubes, rather than a traditional thin slice. Walked in to one guy there, no menu's had to scan a QR code. My friend and I showed up thinking they had slices of pizza ready, they had nothing out. We sat around waiting for our pizza's. Come to find out the oven wasn't on. He hasn't even started cooking or preparing the pizza's. Never told us a thing. We waited around for 2hrs for our pizza to be ready. You get top quality ingredients here mostly from Italy and when you taste their food you'll know what I'm talking about. I had the Bianca Neve, which had fresh mozzarella, ricotta, & garlic. I bought a slice for $3.75 which was well worth it! It's so rich and they put so much cheese on it for the money! Just spent $43 on one large, one small pizza. Not worth a nickel. If anyone remembers the original Gio's then you know how good and big the slices were. One slice would fill a whole dinner plate; now you can fit 3 slices on one paper plate. If you're reading a review, make sure you check the date. Any review over 2-3 years is probably for the original Gio's. I can't believe he let them put his name on this pizza. Cheese and crackers. The cheese is such poor quality, it doesn't even melt right. Anyone from the east coast knows exactly what I mean. The crack of the crust and the strings of melted mozzarella. If you think their pizza is good now, you've never had real pizza. I've been excited to try this place for awhile now and it did not disappoint! I really wanted to get a few different slices but we went at 3 so all the slices were gone so we each got a 12" pizza. My husband got the neapolitana pizza with extra cheese and I got the Bianca neve, I love a pizza with a bunch of ricotta and the Bianca did not disappoint. This place is ridiculous. I had food from here once a year or two ago, it was absolutely amazing. Wanted to try it again about 2-3 months ago and it was awful. I saw a bunch of other reviews mentioning new owners, so I gave it a try again a month after that. Now just tried it again today... not impressed. And really, it's not even bad, if they were selling these as $20-25 pizzas rather than $35, it'd probably be fine. Just a lot of weird problems with consistency/quality control. But, being a curious person, I decided to actually go pick up my order in person rather than using an app this last time. I walk up the the storefront: Red flag 1: One guy who looks like he must be manager/owner is sitting out on the patio talking about baseball or something on his phone while the three people inside are scrambling. Red flag 2: I get inside and the lady running the kitchen/oven *is chewing gum*. While she's making pizzas. Smacking it around in her mouth while talking to both customers and coworkers. Red flag 3: anything any customer or other employee asked about was "yeah, we got that," or "it's in the oven." Okkkk... so like 5 minutes? 10? 20? Even the lady cooking didn't really seem to be sure, which would explain pizza I received. Whole operation just seemed like chaos and that some things had to be perfect while other places it was on to cut corners. Kind of reminded me of the Gordon Ramsey "Amy's Bakery" episode. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE - HEAR ME OUT. This is a horrible business and it takes a lot out of me to say this as I want nothing more than to help small businesses succeed,. I personally worked here and it was a nuthouse - I saw how the place operated and you would be disgusted. Gloves are rarely worn, people are chewing gum while cooking pizza, food containers are never flipped and cleaned every day - they just clean them whenever they feel like it, food preparation is dirty and food touches each other (chicken touching fresh produce, sauces all mixed up, etc.) I have been a resident of Anthem since 2003 and saw how well Gio's old owners used to uphold the place and the new ownership has destroyed all of his hard work. Recipes are no where close to what they used to be (the owner changes everything on a whim almost every day, experimenting with recipes and not knowing how they will turn out). The turnover here in the time I was working there was high... I worked with many people that worked really hard and then got fired with the only explanation of "my labor is too high, this is what is best for me" but yet the owners would keep previous felons on probation on their team and people that would be lazy/dirty. I worked for them part time for a few months and eventually quit because of how gross and mismanaged the place was. Something that I was doing to make some extra side cash, turned into a headache and the owners were the most unprofessional people I have ever met. Lastly, without getting into too many details, there was a drug problem at this place and it seemed that they only wanted to keep employees that fit the mold of being cool with the daily use. I personally showed up to work one day and one of the owners was nodding on and off while cooking pizza to a point where he almost passed out and had to be sent home by his father (who came in because the place was going downhill). Overall, this business does not encompass the values of an Anthem business. I give them until the end of the year (if that) and they will be out of business and hopefully we can get a good pizza shop back in there. read more

Came in just passing through with my family today, we grabbed their last 3 slices of pizza and they threw in an extra piece of their white pizza for free. My family is from Sicily so I LOVE the feel of good authentic Italian food and these are good authentic Italian people. This pizza is incredible! I'm a huge fan of white pizza already and their white pizza with the garlic and the ricotta was just out of this world. I can't wait to stop in next time I'm passing through, thanks guys read more

Well, the owner is from Queens it seems as we bantered a bit back and forth about pizza in NY in the early 80's. It was about 8pm on a weekday and the pizza case was a bit thin, but they had cheese slices available. Those two slices were pretty good, foldable, but lacking that orange grease and oregano flecks that are standard in NY. Still, for Arizona, this is probably a top 10 place for NY pizza. Cannoli - Made to order, but they used way too much cream and the shell fell apart after one bite. Filling was also grainy, not a great version. Minus another star for no chicken parm or pasta dishes, so this is mainly a local Anthem pizza place, not worth a special drive from other areas in the valley. read more

Well today I was let down by the numerous reviews and 4+ rating. Unfortunately this place fell short on my Yelp expectations. We planned accordingly and even stopped by earlier today for a take out menu. Note there is no eat in dining all take out or second service delivery. Meaning they do not delivery so you would need to find someone that delivers from here. I called and placed our order. One large pizza meat lovers with extra cheese and mushrooms with half the pie in anchovies. Than an eggplant parmigiana with a side spaghetti this is what I shared with my Mother in law. Not much eggplant and heaps of spaghetti with a not so special red sauce. Lastly a large antipasto with dressing on the side. This was just over done with too much marinated vegetables,canned sliced black olives the provolone was good quality just sliced too thin like for a sandwich not a salad thrown on here with pepperoni that looked colorless and prosciutto again sliced too thin to separate from this mess. I literally threw the antipasto in the trash. Came with garlic rolls took one look and threw them in the trash. So at this point why even get a three star? They were redeemed by the cannoli. Plenty of filling had two cherries and powdered sugar the cannoli was special. Now my order came with a part of the box the mozzarella cheese on the pizza came from. Grande is the best and very expensive. Therefore it is the staff that puts this together that made this a train wreck. You use the best ingredients you just need to put the meals together better. Everything came to over $70 a it got thrown out after we were done. I can imagine they are great for a plain cheese pizza at lunch time. That would be it for me if I ever went back. Best Pizza I've Ever Had In My Life!!! My girlfriend brought home an extra large cheese pizza. This pizza was Huge, 100% Authentic New York style, and the best pizza I've ever had in my life. Perfect amount of sauce and cheese. The dough was perfect, not too thin or thick, it didn't fall apart when you held a slice in your hand. And the crust was BOMB!!! It was soft and chewy. Ok I always try to support local businesses but you need to stay away from this place tried numerous times when the reheat the slice pizza is it way over done and the bottom is completely burnt then tried a regular small pie still way over done and over priced 15.00 for a small cheese pie seriously go to Rays cheaper and a lot better quality. read more

Oh-OH-Spaghetti Rolls! (like garlic knots, spaghetti and pizza had a baby) ($4.95) Oh my... Stuffed pizzas... big enough to feed godzilla packed with goodness ($4.95) Drum Roll.......................... The above were all great .....but both of us enjoyed the white pizza slice the most! The Bianco Neve was unlike any white pizza I ever had before due to the really magical smooth wonderful ricotta cheese on it kissed with olive oil and the right amount of garlic and mozzarella. I did add a little salt, pepper and a few pepper flakes to it to suit me and it was really special. The Low Downs- The plain slice of pizza was just ok and nothing special. Not bad but nothing special and seemed very average against everything else we tried. This place is very small and already a HIT and ALREADY VERY POPULAR! At the time of my visit they only had 5 tables (they do have room to add more) so many people weren't able to get a table. They don't have real silverware and you have to dine with plastic silverware. Normally that isn't a big deal but it's difficult to eat the the stuffed pizza with plastic silverware.
