Had DoorDash deliver Gio's pizza in north Phoenix Thursday March 7. Knew something was up when I was told pizza would be late because Gio's ran out of dough. I suspect they got more dough at Walmart nearby because the it was chewy and not well done. Definitely not up to Gio's normal standards. Threw most of it in garbage since not edible. Saw some great yelp reviews so we decided to grab some take out. My husband and I shared a pizza and my daughter ordered the Chicken Parm with a side of rigatoni. We chose Gios crust and added some toppings. My husband chose sausage and mushroom on half and my half was artichoke. I will say that the artichokes were large and there were plenty however.....everything went down hill from there. I found two artichokes that were disgusting. They were black and looked moldy. The sauce on our pizza was pretty non-existent. For me the sauce makes the pizza, so basically I had bread, cheese (too much), no sauce and rotten artichokes. I gave them 2 stars because the toppings were plentiful and the crust was pretty good..... but without sauce, it was like eating a cheesy flatbread with artichokes. My daughter's chicken parm was ok but again, very little sauce. Who wants to eat plain pasta? Maybe an off night? But we are not fans. read more

Just finishing up a quick lunch at Gio's because hey....Friday has always been "pizza day" in our family! Seeing the food on display was a bit reminiscent of Sbarro's at the mall...but that's where the similarity ends. The food was tasty, there were numerous options and the place was clean. Not what I'd consider a "date night" location, but a great place for a quick bite with friends. Contrary to some of the reviews I've read, we found the lady at the counter to be quite pleasant. She's on task and she's appears to be from the east coast, so perhaps that's been off-putting to a few patrons. My suggestion is to embrace the cultural differences and enjoy the food! My husband and I were looking for a pizza place. we saw the reviews. We thought would try Gio's. upon arriving the woman at the front could have been friendlier but maybe that is just her personality. pre-made slices that are reheated. slices are very large New York style. pepperoni has a nice flavor. overall it was worth the trip. if I'm in that area we would definitely go back. *when we were leaving the gentleman in the back made sure to thank us for the business and seems very friendly. We have gotten Gio's pizza a few times for take out. It's one of those classical simple pizzas that is so delicious. Their tomato sauce has a great flavor. We do have to do a quick grease dab before eating but that's a personal preference. Quick and great customer service when ordering over phone. Will order here again. read more

I like that you can buy slices or a whole pizza. They have other dinner options too. Like lasagna, meatball, chicken and eggplant parmigiana. The food, quantity, taste is on point. Pizza sauce has a good mild flavor. I don't think this place stands out from other pizza joints, doesn't really "wow" us but the food is solid and a good choice when hungry and in the area. The owners are from NY and have the NY personality. They seem nice but definitely all about the business. While we were ordering food the lady was impatient and one of the gentleman requested us to move so his customers could more easily walk by (which is cool and we complied of course) but he kind of forgot that we were also customers and it turned off our friends who were about to order another pizza to go. So I'm giving a 4 Star because the experience was good but wasn't great. read more

NEW OWNERS! Terrible. I had a pizza delivered last month from them and I was disappointed but I thought maybe it was because it was delivered and luke warm. I drove over yesterday and discovered there were new owners. My pizza was terrible, more cheddar cheese than mozzarella, the edge crust was so tough and hard that I couldn't eat it. Sold recently, and downhill it has gone! If you never had pizza from Geo himself, you don't know what you're missing. With Geo, it felt like you were at your favorite neighborhood pizza joint. Not anymore! Same recipe, so good, but order a 12-inch and get a 12-inch crust and 8 inches of cheese and sauce and skimpy. A major rip-off! Geo gave you 12 inches each and every time with a smile! Not sure why we waited so long to try this place, but it is legit pizza! Highest price pizza in anthem, but also the best. High quality and flavorful ingredients. It's the type of pizza when you take a bite you know you're not eating any ordinary pizza. It's an "oh hell yeah, THAT'S a pizza" experience. Best crust I've had in a very long time. Too bad the don't have a wood pizza oven as that would put it at a world class pizza. I like the Italian grocery items like pasta and marinara sauce to take home and try in your recipes. You can even buy the kitchen's sauces! I can't wrap my head around why I can't get the same kind of pizza by the slice in a whole pizza. With the change in ownership, things have declined. Understandably, prices have gone up, but quality has dropped. Toppings are skimpy and the quality is not there. The previous Gio's was a level above the many other options in Anthem. That is no longer the case. Unless the new ownership can restore quality, the business is in a death spiral. Gio's Pizza is the place to go if your looking for pizza that is above average, if your tired of ordering from Dominos here in Anthem then Gio's is the place to go, hands down is it the best pizza place here in Anthem, while also being more pricey than the local Domino's it is well worth the extra cost, the pizzas here are enormous and taste much better than the pizza at Domino's. I would definitely recommend Gio's Pizza to anyone who is looking for great slice of pizza, and or if your looking for something much nicer than getting take out. It only seems to be worth it however if your willing to spend the extra dough to get it. Pros: Really great pizza, in fact the best in all of Anthem! Have had takeout 3 times and the first time it was just okay, but gave them the benefit of the doubt as they had only been open for a few weeks and the place was jam packed. I liked the sauce but the first time the pizza was not cooked throughly - almost raw dough and the cheese was not stringy and melted - it was cold and chunky.. The next time was amazing - perfectly cooked pizza, melted cheese, awesome garlic knots, and the pinwheel was really good too. The 3rd time was kind of in between the first 2. Anyway, when it's good, it's good. Seems to be better if you go when they're not too busy (not during peak times) as they pay more attention to cooking the food properly. Pros 1. Great when they cook the pizza correctly 2. Pinwheel was yummy 3. They actually know what garlic knots are and their's are tasty 4. Friendly staff Cons 1. When they're busy during peak times it seems that the quality of the food suffers 2. Inconsistency of the food - sometimes the cheese is great and the other times it wasn't. If we have vegetarians out there that don't like meat, ask for their vegetarian pizza, with artichoke hearts, all kinds of veggies the look of the pizza was satisfying enough until I ate it, oh my God. Really sad to say Gio's is not as good as it used to be. I was so happy to have a great NY-style pizza place nearby, but the last two times we ordered takeout it was only average. The sicilian pie had hardly any sauce and had two burned garlic knots to hold it in place. It was all very dry and tasteless. I really like the folks here and really hope they take these reviews to heart and change back to how good they used to be. read more
