Great service, horrible pizza. We have heard good things about this pizza place for years and finally decided to stop in and grab some pizza on the way home from Bend . While the staff was very friendly, courteous, super helpful and overall service was great, we were very disappointed in the pizza. I've had better frozen pizzas for sure. Thought it would be better leftover and nope was even worse. I would not recommend as a great pizza place. Maybe a good place to stop and hang out for a bit for a driving break and for good ambience in the outside seating or even inside. But you need to temper your expectations on the pizza. This place was a complete embarrassment from the moment we walked in. Plastic-coated tablecloths tried their best to cling to some illusion of charm, but the real theme here is paranoia and hostility. The staff are under surveillance--three closed-circuit cameras aimed only at them. Not the entry, not the customers--just the employees. It's a bold visual choice that screams, "We don't trust our own people." That level of micromanagement is not just unprofessional, it's unsettling. But the real showstopper was the owner, who stormed over and publicly chastised my sister--loudly and rudely--for bringing in a water bottle. Not alcohol. Not food. Just a water bottle. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. There is a way to run a business with boundaries and grace. This wasn't that. This was control and ego on full display. As for the food? Don't bother. A sad salad and a pizza that might as well have been frozen. It was overpriced, and underwhelming. We would have left immediately if we hadn't already paid. And that's the real shame--this place doesn't deserve your time, money, or appetite. Avoid it. There are plenty of places that treat customers (and staff) with basic dignity--and serve decent food to boot. The place next door has Philly Cheese Steak. Next time I'll try that place. read more

En route to Sisters, OR and jumped off OR-22 in Mill City for a bite at Giovanni. It's a small, rustic place a few feet off the highway. We opted for a medium-sized Meat Lover's pizza, and were presented with a substantial pie loaded with copious amounts of meat and a ton of melted mozzarella on a pillow-y soft crust with just the right amount of chew. We also witnessed patrons at other tables feasting on ginormous calzones, as well as hand-dipped milkshakes and ice cream cones. This is a "must do" anytime you're traveling this route! read more

Giovannis used to have the best breadsticks ever. Over the years they have slipped. Cuts in portions and quality ingredients are obvious. One thing I have learned from Gordon Ramsey is not to sacrifice quality, and the people will come! It's hard living in the canyon and I am more willing to drive to sublimity to get the good breadsticks... the original Giovanni's breadsticks, rather than the thing blan ones served now. I'm asking the owners to go back to big quality ingredients and we the community would be happy to pay more and eat there not often rather than once and a while because there is no other competition. My kids dad and I used to visit this place pretty frequently 10 years ago and always remembered it being really good. I had taken my boys and some friends exploring in the area and we were excited to stop there after so long from our last visit. our experience from the go was not great. First, my youngest son entered the restaurant while the rest of us were searching for my middle son's tee shirt. The restaurant staff told my youngest son to let us know we could not enter if my other son didn't have a shirt ... as we were looking for his shirt outside. Two of the boys ordered spaghetti. One ordered a half order, the other a large. they came out the same ... small sizes though we were charged for the large size. The girl at the counter came over to the table to let us know also, that we owed $1 for the lightly sprinkled dried basil on my sons cheese pizza. We were exhausted and I didn't feel like making a deal of it, so I paid the dollar... but when I realized how much I (single mom) spent on 2 pizza's, 2 small spaghetti's, one order of bread sticks and 3 root beers, I decided to write this. I spent $111 for what we ordered, plus the $1 they came back to collect for the dried basil. so $112 for not a good experience and the spaghetti's were not good according to the kids. She gave us an estimate of 30 mins. I thought the pizza was okay- nothing out of the norm. It was might expensive for what it was. The star of the show? The breadsticks! It was cheesy and bottom had a little crunch to it and not greasy. It literally a plate with 8 long sticks of bread and two containers of ranch. Loved it! I was pointed to this place by a friend at work, and one lazy afternoon, my girlfriend and I made the trip out there after a day of cruising around our beautiful Salem countryside. The place looks like a dive, and I've driven right by it multiple times. So I wasn't really sure if it was the right place when we stopped, but stop we did. Inside, the place is cute, but nothing spectacular. We were helped immediately and noticed that it's your standard pizzeria fare. Some side Italian dishes, like lasagna, spaghetti, stuff like that, were available, but we were there for the pizza. The first thing I ordered was six "spinners." They are dough, wrapped around Italian sausage and ricotta cheese. We also ordered a large with pepperoni and pineapple. Sadly, they do not offer refills. But for the price of a "bottomless" coke somewhere else, you can get a 32oz pitcher, with lots of replenishable ice. Also 64oz and half pitchers are available, all reasonably priced. I noticed immediately that their dough was rolled out by hand and then tossed. Fabulous! We got the spinners and...oh my word, they were to die for. I thought they'd be smallish, but they were huge. Hot and steamy, with plenty of garlic, the sausage was tangy and the ricotta was in just the right amount, not overwhelming, but certainly not skimpy. I had to stop at two, because by this point, I was dying to try the pizza. I was not disappointed. The surface was covered in a lake of cheese, like I've never seen before on a pizza (that I haven't ordered extra extra cheese on). The crust was chewy and very tasty, the sauce was delicious, and the toppings, outside of the cheese, were plentiful and very fresh. I fell in love with this place, and rank it right up there with one my favourite pizza joints in the country. And what with pizza being my favourite food ever, I've been to my fair share of pizza joints. Definitely worth the trip...and the extra cost. Yes, sadly, this was a fairly expensive pizza, with no coupon deals. But you absolutely get what you pay for, and I did not begrudge one single damn cent I spent here. read more

The Lasagna was meaty & cheesy, just delicious. It came with buttery garlic bread and a fresh, crispy simple little salad with homemade ranch dressing. Perfect. So good we ordered an extra. It is a charming family run place with indoor and outdoor (great for the pooch) seating. They were quite busy, people enjoying pizzas and other wonderful looking sandwiches, pasta & salads. I paid $29. Very high priced. They do not wear masks. No one wears gloves. Workers touch their faces, pick their noses, rub teeth with fingers without washing their hands afterward. They forgot part of my order so I had to drive all the way back for it but got a scaled down version instead. I got sick on their food which was spoiled. The staff is very rude. They make your call the order in before going there but you have too call several times to get through and I know they were Gooding off because I was in my vehicle right in front with no other vehicles around. Attention all Paddlers and Campers if you are hungry and craving a killer pizza this is the spot. Stop looking at the other, what 7 reviews for restaurants in the area. This is where you will Not be disappointed. We ordered the Meat Lovers and Fat Roman Pizza. On the Roman we switched out the fresh beef for their spicy sausage and BAM Awesomeness took place! We ordered 2 dinner salads, since we needed some veggies to take away some of the guilt. I will pass next time on the Dinner Salad, because for $5 each for that tiny little plate, I could have bought a giant bag of salad at the store. They were fresh and yummy just too much for the amount. Now on to the pizzas. My 15 year old who ordered the Meat livers with his sister wanted to try one of our slices with everything on it. That was a mistake! He ate about a 1/3 of ours and only 1 slice of the meat lover. That is how good it was. The meat lovers was amazing and loaded with topings. The crust is freshly made. Incredibly fluffy and thick. At the end I noticed a sign that says GLUTEN FREE CRUST AVAILABLE! ok, I promise I didn't see that till the end otherwise my conscience would have made me order it with that. But I can't imagine it being anywhere close to the delectable pizza we ate tonight. Hope you enjoy the pictures. I had to take them of my family enjoying it.
