Bavarian stuffed French Toast with Fresh Blueberries, Strawberries and Bananas

This restaurant has gone through many renditions but the current owners have finally hit the mark! The staff is great, really friendly and the food is great! Specials are creative and really good. The portions are huge. It looks a little iffy from the outside, but it's definitely worth it once you sit down! Ok so now this place is one of my favorite breakfast joints! Their specials are decadent! Stuffed French toast, homemade cinnamon French toast and their Texas Griller breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Luckily for my waste line they only serve breakfast on the weekends!

Was on my drive to Walmart to just pick up something and detoured in seeing Mario's light on. Came in deliciously clutch!! Time was after 8pm (maybe closer to 9pm) The pizza was made fresh and to order, a cheese with mushrooms. Chit chatty staff. Ok, don't look around inside, lolol, but found the food wasn't a risk. But a reward. Brought the pie home & was so excited for my find, and ourselves we ate almost the whole pizza. It was crunchy, not too cheesy, neutral sauce- just a Good pizza sauce, and fresh mushrooms. Fun at-home date night supported by Mario's!!

The staff makes you feel right at home and often engages you in conversation while you are waiting. The staff also seems to take great pride in their community and is often a source of great things upcoming and happening! My favorite dish would have to be pretty simple and that is their cheese pizza if I am feeling very fancy, I may add the mushrooms, but again the pizza itself is so authentic and great. I don't feel the need to venture or mess with a perfect combination of flavors for a very reasonable price these days! My kids also enjoyed sitting in the boost as they were nice and cozy, and always a lively and upbeat experience!

He does all the cooking, she handles everything else (often by herself). She's all business but not unfriendly. The food is so good. My veal pizzaiola on my most recent visit was as good as ever and I am particular to the veal di martin on the house specialty section of the menu. The garlic, oil and tomato covered bread and salad with homemade dressing included with your meal are fresh and tasty. While everyone else needed take home containers for their dinner she was shocked I cleaned my plate! The food is the reason you're here and it's superb.

So I'm sitting there for a few and I'm like maybe they misunderstood and they thought I made a res for 6 people not at 6. So I went to clarify with the hostess. She understood and repeated the same thing. So we sat and waited a few more minutes before she had a change of heart and came out to tell us we could be seated now. We didn't leave for probably 45 minutes and not one more person came in. As soon as we sat down the hostess who was also the waitress came over and asked for our order. We of course we weren't ready. We just sat! She seemed frustrated and I was thinking wow this isn't going to be relaxing. The first thing I see on the menu is the sharing up charge. I hate that type of thing. I always like to do family style and share stuff. I want to try every thing if it's a good place. So we got an appetizer which clearly we were going to share. Luckily we did not get the share charge. The bread you get before your meal is so good. Fresh cut garlic and oil drizzled on it. You also get a side salad that was delicious. When they brought the calamari I tried moving the bread closer to me so the waitress(same as the hostess) could put the plate down. She grabbed the bread bowl from me and moved it to the other end of the table. When our actual meals came she couldn't wait to get our plates off the table. We really felt like we were an inconvenience. I thought maybe it was just a cultural thing. Or maybe she's just overworked since she was the hostess and waiting on 3 tables. Brought us boxes before we were finished our food. So we were like ok fine. We will just pack up. We were going to get desert but we decided let's just blow this popsicle stand and get something somewhere else. The food here is excellent. I would get take out again but I probably wouldn't suggest a dine in experience. Which is a shame. I don't even really like writing this critical of a review because I don't know what was going on in her life so maybe it was just the day.

Unfortunately that's where it ends. Service is a 1-star. There seemed to be a language disconnect with the server. An overall near-zero experience. Our server was attentive to other tables seated after us who received their desserts before our entrees. Not one table check-in before, during or after the meal. Had to actually get up out of the seat to make sure the drink order was understood and it was right because the server did not seem to understand. Maybe that put the server off. We also flagged down other servers for assistance during the meal and even for ordering dessert. It took a long time to take payment for our bill. We almost got up to pay at the bar. Thus the crap shoot gamble at La Sponda. Atmosphere a 2.5 star. Loud atmosphere with a heavy metal music rotation. Good music, just not for this dinner atmosphere. Overall a 2.5-star on the strength of the food. We will not be back. Spending the money I did, even though the food is good at La Sponda, I don't want to risk a bad service experience again there. Not worth it for us but might not matter for others. Nevertheless - Caveat Emptor.
