Giovanni's is by far my favorite Italian Restaurant. Hands-down the best pizza in the Miami Valley. Over the years my family has created wonderful memories at Giovanni's; celebrating birthdays and other events. I can't recommend it enough! read more

Giovanni's came recommended from several people, so I had to try it. I'm very glad I did. I went there for dinner during the week (not too crowded) and tried the pizza. Thin crust, fresh ingredients (and a lot of them) - wonderful. Only a minor complaint - very average house salad. I'm going to try to come during lunch to try other things (and might visit for dinner again while I'm here). I will keep Giovanni's on my list if I'm ever back in the area. The food was good but our server this evening was beyond rude. After waiting 8-10 minutes without even our drink order being taken my mom went up front and asked if anyone was going to take our order. This lady whipped around to our table and said "I heard you complained on me." We were both pretty shocked. I said yes we've been waiting nearly ten minutes and people that were sat after us already have their drinks and have had their order taken. She then said "you haven't been waiting ten minutes and I said I'll be right with you." She took our order and left. I forgot that I needed to order a pizza to go. After about five minutes I went up front and placed my carry out order and paid for it. 20 minutes later I went up front to see if my take out order was ready and it was. I grabbed it and walked back to our table because the sever still hadn't brought out or food. Then she came to the table and asked "did you pay for that?" After another aggravating exchange with April we decided that we would rather eat at home than deal with this nonsense. It's ok to have a bad day, but it's never ok to take it out on your customers. She never denied being rude or apologized for it. read more

Their Italian sub comes highly recommended so I decided to try it when using an Entertainment coupon last week. While I could get a discount on an entree or 50% off a pizza, no way would they give me the smallest discount on any sandwich. So, instead of raving about how great it is on a public review site, I can only say it MIGHT have been. Ordered pizza instead and it was quite good. I'm not a big Italian food fan, don't like marinara or alfredo sauce. So, the entree I always order is called something like Pasta l'Giovanni, which comes in a garlic oil dressing. It's always very good -- my favorite thing here. I wish they could accompany it with a superb garlic bread. read more

Here for a birthday celebration. Only 8 of us but had to wait 45 minutes. No big deal really but it was an indication of the night to come. One hour and 15 minutes after sitting when asked about dinner they tell us that the pizzas burnt and they are making new ones. First off they sent bread to the table a half hour into the wait. But just one basket for 8 people. Secondly the salads with house dressing had so much garlic on it it was unedable. And they charged 75 cents extra for cheese on it. Thirdly people at the table that didn't get pizza were sitting there with their food for ten minutes thinking the rest was coming and didn't want to be rude eating in front of everyone. It would've been nice for them to tell us there was a delay. Final straw was the bill, they were aware of the bad taste in our mouths and discounted the bill. But only on the pizzas! And the discount was a joke. When asked about this suddenly it was the owner that wouldn't take any more off. Whatever. Don't get me wrong food is decent, but not worth 3 hours for one medium pizza one small pizza and three kids cheese pizzas one clams and pasta, and one chicken marsala. And through on being rude after it just confirms I will never be back. read more

My husband and I are making our way through local pizza places and we had both heard fabulous things about Giovanni's pizza. Boy we were misled- this pizza was very dissappointing. The sauce tasted like it came from a can and the crust was very similar to a lot of other pizza places. Definitely at the bottom of our list of best local pizza houses. The people who said this was better than Marion's are crazy! Plus, the restaurant was crowded and unorganized- there is almost no room to wait and you have to line up in the same place where you pay before leaving. We will probably not return to Giovanni's again. DJ's Pizza in Tipp City is much better. read more

My Husband , myself , and son went there to eat after having tried their pizza to go. The pizza we received on the to go trip was ok. The eat in meal was horrible! Everything from the appetizers to the meals were nasty. The pizza rolls were hard as a rock with NO flavor, I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, I could not eat it. My husband ordered the chicken Parm, it was burnt. My child had the chicken alfredo. The sauce was so bitter it ruined the taste on everything. Bottom Line Up Front: The pizza is worth trying. The Other items are good. I can't say anything about the decor as they are remodeling. We were seated quickly and our waitress was very attentive so I have no complaints about the service. I had a glass of house wine and it was OK, nothing special. Our salads and bread came out next. The salads were standard iceberg mix with a couple tomatoes and cucumbers pieces. There was an uncharge for blue cheese dressing and for shredded cheese. The dressing was OK. The bread was something you could get a Walmart or someplace like that. I got the Chicken Marsala. It was good. My wife got the lasagna, It was good too. Neither dish was the best or worse I have ever had. We also got a pizza to go. The pizza is in the same league as Dewey's and Ha Ha's as far as area pizza joints go. The crust is dusted with cornmeal and had a wood fired brick oven taste. No complaints. read more

Been going to Giovanni's since I was just a tot. My all-time favorite pizza! So happy they now offer a gluten free crust!

My husband and I aren't fans of chains and try to local as much as possible. We recently moved to the area and thus decided to try Giovanni's. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be going back. I got the Pasta & sausage with a creamy tomato sauce. It was bland. it had a few canned mushrooms thrown in there but that didn't help any. My husband got a sausage and mushroom pizza which was good. As the other reviewer wrote, it is very similar to Marion's but Marion's is still better. Giovanni's also talks about their great bread in their menu but when we got ours, it looked like something we could get at the grocery store. Sadly, it tasted grocery store quality too. read more

I have been in the Dayton area for 2 weeks on business and have been very satisfied with the Yelp recommendations until my visit to Giovanni's. Let me start by saying that the wait staff was wonderful, but the food was terrible. I ordered rigatoni with meat sauce which also included a salad. The salad was nice but the dressing was terrible. It was supposed to be Italian dressing, but was mainly garlic and vinegar and was missing the oil component. The meat sauce had very little meat and was both sweet and acidic. Tasted like it came from a can. Not sure about the other items on the menu, but I am sure they use the meat sauce on several other dishes. If you grew up in an Italian-American family or you are a foodie you will be disappointed with many Giovanni's pasta dishes. read more

I used to love this place. Ambience is still cozy. New bar is nice. Had a bottle of pinot noir that we liked. Ordered 3 cheese and spinach for appetizer. Tasted bland. Was pretty much a glob of chewy cheese over kroger brand frozen spinach. The crustini bread that came along with app could break someones teeth. We asked for bread and got a basket of sliced white bread. Pizza is still really on point. Spinach ravioli was below average. Also had no taste. They are a hole in the wall pizza joint that thinks it's a 5 star restaurant. The pizza is good but the entrees are lacking. The staff is warm and friendly if they know you to be a regular and at best indifferent to everyone else. And don't get me started about the reservations! read more

We ate there the other night and the pizza was really really bad. We told the waiter and he said that management really did not care. We talked to the cashier on the way out and she said they had a problem with the refrigerator and that a lot of the food was like that. Food is typical Italian food you'd see at any generic small Italian restaurant. They have awful service. Everyone there doesn't seem like they care about the customer more than they care about their tip. Some of the conversations that are held during open hours are offensive and I'm not happy with my kids hearing vulgarity and sexually offensive language. The food is good, I'll give them that. But only their pizzas. The floor in the banquet room was littered with tons of debris and was very dirty. Had the Portabello Ravioloi which was the August special. It came out with only 6 ravioli; I knew it wasn't going to be enough for me and I immediately questioned it and commented that I thought it was a rip off for 12.95. The server's response was "wait until you try it". It was mediocre at best. Lean cuisine would be comparable. My wife got the chicken parm which she offered me half of, knowing the ravioli was not going to fill me up. The chicken parm had no flavor, the sauce was not good, and the whole thing just tasted 'off' and had an unpleasant texture. At the conclusion of the meal with empty glasses, never refilled, I mentioned that I was not happy with the experience. The server handed me the check and told me to tell the manager up front and that 'maybe she'll do something about it'. When I got to the front, she did not ask me how the meal was. I told her I was not pleased with the portion size or the quality and she said that 6 raviolis was the standard for a dinner and her only answer for the chicken parm was that it 'is one of their best sellers'. She would not acknowledge any fault and shrugged it off with no apology or anything. No offer was ever made to make the meal right, it seems that is something they avoid, as if it is restaurant policy. read more

I don't get it. At 7pm on a Saturday night, the place was jammed packed on a half-hour wait. And, it's not like Fairborn is in the middle of nowhere - heck, a major regional mall is less than 10-minutes away. Maybe it's the pizza. We didn't have the pizza. Anyway - The Antipasto Plate appetizer consisted of 8 thin slices of 4-inch pepperoni thrown on a plate surrounded by canned artichoke hearts, canned olives, and what looked/tasted like little strips of government-surplus cheese. For $10!!!! Now, the garlic salad dressing was very, very good. Garlic EXTREEEEM! Kind of had a hot bite to it, but if you love garlic you'll love this stuff. Really, they should bottle it and sell it in the grocery stores. They'd make a fortune and could shut down the godforsaken restaurant. The $12.50 chicken parm was waayy overdone. They brought another and didn't charge us. The second one was cooked OK, but the sauce/cheese was lackluster. My $13 chicken marsala chicken was cooked ok, but darned if I could detect any marsala in that brown oily mess. When our dinner companion asked for a lime for his drink, the waiter comes back holding a bunch of stuff for another table, and the lime wedge in his other hand, holds out his hand and says "here's your lime". Ordered a Manhattan up. I ended up with an Old Fashioned on the rocks. We were in the original center "dining" room. The booth was, like, 3 feet wide, kind of tight even for our skinny butts. And then, there's like this lonnngggg uninterrupted table going right down the middle of the restaurant, seemingly an arm's length from our booth to the back of the guy sitting in the chair adjacent to us. Be sure to check out the fire escape exits when you go in this LOUD place, too. We go to pay, at the cash register right in the middle of the restaurant between two dining rooms with the kitchen door nearby - servers running back and forth, bumping into us, me dodging them here and there. Then the checkout lady yells "YA WANNA PUT A TIP ON HERE?" Yes, please. "OK, HOW MUCH?!?". Oy vey. And, whatever you do, don't dress up for this place. Your jammy pants and wife-beater undershirt will fit in just fine. read more
