Girl Scout Central in midtown Manhattan is the national flagship store for the Girl Scouts of America and serves as the national headquarters. It is run by the Girl Scouts of the USA (which is not affiliated with any local council). My wife and I didn't realize that we were staying right next door, and stopped in for a visit. The two young ladies attending to the store pleasantly engaged my wife about her prior experiences in being a troop leader, and explained a bit about the purpose of the store. It was a nice visit, and my wife ended up buying a couple of badges as souvenirs for our visit, being given later to her two nieces who are currently girl scouts. There was a bulletin board where youth visitors can trade pins with other visitors. There are currently 111 Individual regional group (councils) across the U.S., each covering a specific geographic area. The largest is Girl Scout's Nation's Capital, with 46,000 youth members. Girl Scout's of Greater Los Angeles has 33,000 youth members. As for residents of the city of New York (where this store is located), they are served by the Girl Scouts of Greater New York, which has about 25,000 youth members. The national organization is funded via official merchandising sales and commercial licensing agreements of the Girl Scout brand. Girl Scout Central in Midtown is an office I'm familiar with visiting. Years ago I was very interested in working with them to raise funds. Well these days I see they have established some very lucrative partnerships with the Trendy Companies. I'm going to give you a recommendation for Think Protein Bars that are delicious Thin Mint Flavor. They come in a box of five. I love the slight crunch inside when you take a bite. I learned not to mix it with other foods. Just eat the bar as is and you get the Girl Scout Thin Mint flavor. I'm recommending you check out other Girl Scout collaborations. I'm sure if it's got their name on the product it's good. They are very selective when it comes to a seal of approval using their name!! I know first hand. read more

Six days ago, I ordered 10 boxes of cookies through the Girl Scout's website, and today the boxes were delivered to my home via FedEx. Each box cost $5, and shipping for all of the boxes was $15--not exactly cheap, but I appreciate the convenience of ordering cookies online and having them delivered rather than having to buy the cookies in person. I like that my online purchase was credited to a family member's local Girl Scout troop. Of course, the cookies also taste really good. My husband's favorite flavors of cookies are the Samoas (cookies with caramel, coconut, and chocolate) and the Thin Mints (cookies with chocolate and mint). My Girl Scout troop is starting back up this month and i wanted to catch up on all the new badges that came out these past year and half. Upon entering there is a staff member. She welcomed me in and told me if i needed assistance to let them know. I had entered with 15 min till closing so i worked fast. I went to the Junior Scout section as that is the troop i lead. There were so mang new badges i decided to purchase 3 badge materials to atart off the year fun. There were other items that i had asked about hut was informed that they weren't sure when they will be getting the new shipment. This store is fantastic. I don't have kids, and I'm not a Scout leader, but I used to be a Girl Scout. It was nice browsing through the store and seeing how much Girl Scouting has changes since I have been in it. I liked the artifacts they had on hand. They even had a swap wall, which was cool. I remember going camping and getting to swap things with other Scouts. I think I still have my pins attached to a baseball hat I used to wear. They had a great cookie house as well on display. Cool experience and good nostalgia to look back on. There is also a water bottle filling station at the store. read more

Visiting while on vacation, as a brownie GS. We came early in the day on a Monday, probably around 11am and a couple of people were just leaving as we headed in. Smallish store but not really sure what to expect. As we walked in, a worker greeted us and let us know of the GS experience my daughter could do to earn a free fun patch. We spent time at the LEGO wall, swap board and chalkboard and looked at the small corner with historical GS uniforms. All this time, not another person has come into the store. After about a good 30/45 mins we headed back to the end of the store to let the employees know we completed that historical experience and to get the patch. 2 ladies at the register area who didn't not even acknowledge us, and upon saying hi again and that we complete the activities and wanted the patch, there was still no interaction other than handing over the patch. I said thank you and no response from either. I asked my daughter to say thanks as well and I think that was the only other interaction with the staff. I actually can't even remember if either one responded or not. They definitely couldn't care less... oh well. read more

Was looking for a specific cookies. I trekked down to the Girl Scout Central based on a suggestion of a friend. The store is located on 5 Ave and W. 37 St. It is a small store front with green and orange balloons floating in the front. Can't miss it! Everything you ever wanted from caps to wheeled shopping cart. Yes, shopping cart! There are also huge cookie boxes on a cookie stands for pictures. They are selling GS cookies now if you don't have a source asking you to buy yet. The store did not have what I am looking for but still cute. read more

Never under estimate the Girls Scouts... yea they are cute and adorable with their uniforms and sashes with all those patches....but I think secretly they are planning to take over the world.. killing people with kindness, good deeds and nuts/ cookies that have crack in them. Tell me why I have thirty dollars of honey roasted nuts, chocolate toffee almonds, toffee peanuts and chocolate covered mint thingies in my drawers at work... oh yea.... I have two girls scouts who attend the high school I work at.... sigh........ well at least when I get horrible cravings (like I have had for the last two days) I can depend on my fellow women to support me with granulated sugar goodness in small nut form. In all seriousness they have some amazing programs and are a nation wide organization that kicks major butt! There are over 300 councils and hundreds of thousands of participants in a variety of their programs/chapters....I will admit I was a brownie for a minute, but then the jumper got in the way of me playing tackle football at lunch (and mom was tired of bringing me a spare clothing set every Wednesday when we had meetings because I would fall in the mud during recess). I have several girls going to a leadership conference in December and I cannot wait to hear how it goes. BUT I do have one criticism: If the girl scout troops were smart, they would sell their goodies around 1 AM or so in the dorm rooms and buildings of their local universities on the weekends... I can guarantee you would make HUGE bank....and the college kiddies wouldn't have to leave their dorm rooms for their midnight junk cravings (it would cut down the...who is going to make a run sequence which is in every stoner movie you can think of).. I think it is a win win situation to be honest..... just throwing it out there as a suggestion read more

My daughters and I visits the Girl Scouts of the USA location and they described their visit as "Excellent"! The girls watched videos, earned a fun patch and got to see some pretty interesting GS artifacts. They signed their names on the huge chalkboard and got a swap. I've been trying to get in touch with them for over a month about an order that was never delivered. I've emailed them several times and despite automated responses assuring me that they'll be in touch shortly, I still haven't heard anything back. It's very disappointing that an organization that claims to be teaching girls about responsibility, community, etc. can't take a few minutes to respond to a customer inquiry. I was a Girl Scout for 13 years, from age 5 to 18. For the most part, I have only fond memories of my scouting years. I got to make lots of friends, we got to go camping pretty often, we made crafts a lot, volunteered, learned to bake and cook, and overall I just had a lot of fun. People might think GS campfire songs are corny, but when you're a kid and your friends are with you, it's not like that. Even when you're a little bit older, you have little girls looking up to you, and you're finally one of the older girls who gets to stay up late and lead songs. I know the politics behind GS may be controversial, just like Boy Scouts, but for me I think it's been a good influence in my life and I'm really grateful I was able to be a part of the organization for so many years. They follow me everywhere. Their first outside of Safeway, then my work, and of all places outside of church! After somewhat running away from the brown and green cloth girls and those damn samoas. One Sunday as I was leaving church hoping to go unnoticed in my peripheral vision I see someone staring at me so stupidly I look....it was a girl scout. Something strange happened...I was walking toward their tent or better yet their tower of delicious, way too much calories, but oh so good cookies. I kept telling myself "ok you made it this far if anything just get 1 box and not even the samoas just get the thin mints...they have the word thin in them right?" It was like I had no control of my mouth after I was greeted by the cute little girl and her family out of nowhere I just snapped back "CAN I HAVE 6 BOXES OF SANOMAS PLEASE!", and there I was 6 boxes of cookies in my hand 24 dollars out of my pocket but I had the HAPPIEST look on my face. i went to the girl scout headquarters , which is a stone throw away from my job to get some info, for my three nieces.even though young girls have terrific role models to look up to like the kardasian sisters, miley cyrus,amanda bynes, and rihanna, i felt they need more , and the girl scouts is a good start. i went in person and the ladies here are very nice and helpful. i was giving all the info, i needed for my nieces to join, like how much this is all going to cost uncle a.t.m. very nice gal who gave me brochures, website, and answered all of my questions.listen i am aware that this is a business, and that the ceo makes more money then the president and has an amazing office, and a large staff, i understand all that ,however if the girl scouts can give these young girls the tools to become respectable ladies when they become adults, then the money i must spend for uniforms and other stuff , etc. etc ,will be well worth it. so i do hope they join. cause there is a lot of fun and productive things for these young girls to do and it looks cool. p.s damn they have not joined yet and its already costing me , what the heck am i going to do with 10 boxes of assorted girl scouts cookies. read more
