Stacey (the director) is absolutely amazing and the way she organizes and runs this camp every year, in every iteration, never ceases to amaze me. My girls have participated in nearly every version of camp that Girls United offers and the running themes of every one -- active, confidence-building, FUN -- always shine through. Such a bonus that Stacey also leans into her role as a leadership mentor to the teenagers she brings in as counselors and coaches. My daughter has been attending as many of the Girls United camps that fit into her schedule since she was 8. At the start, my shy kid was so nervous to attempt any sport and the spring soccer league provided by GU was the perfect low pressure place to try it out. Stacey and team made it such a fun, inclusive, and positive experience that she felt confident enough to try rec soccer. We had the same experience with volleyball. We did the GU summer volleyball camp and my girl is now trying club level. We also love the summer overnight camp where lifelong friends were made and more confidence built thru such a positive environment. The recurring theme in any camp at Girls United is building confidence, lifting each other up and teamwork. My daughters have been attending soccer camp for the last 7 or 8 years and one is now a counselor! Stacey and Girls United have been a wonderful resource for the girls in this town! My daughters have attended many different offerings from Girls United, from skateboarding lessons, to sports day camps, to their awesome overnight camp and each of them has come home so happy and having had the very best time- even if they were feeling nervous before camp began. They ALWAYS ask to go back or sign up for more! My Daughter has been involved in Girls United camps for years now. We have always enjoyed the community and camaraderie that GU has provided across all of their programs. We have seen, over the years, that by participating in these programs our daughter's confidence and independence has grown. This summer she participated in the overnight camp for the first time. My wife and I were nervous about this, because she had never been away from home by herself for so long before. We were confident that Stacy and her staff would provide a safe, fun, and heathy environment. And they did not disappoint! The smile on my daughter's face on the day we picked her up said it all. She cannot wait to go back. She introduced me to her new friends that she made during camp, and her overall demeanor seemed to grow into that of a strong independent young lady. This is written from a 12 year old student of Stacey's. Stacey is probably the best coach/teacher that I've been with. She's encouraging but tells you what you did wrong, which is a good thing. She teaches you things that you wouldn't normally practice in regular soccer. She really focuses on what you need to work on and shows you how to improve on things. I think Stacey is a very good teacher/coach and is also every is easy to talk to and pleasant to be around. The gives easy homework and encourages you to practice on your on free time. This is quite possibly the EASIEST Yelp review I have EVER written! Reason being that Stacey and The Girls United Team is top notch. I am the mother of two girls (8 and 11) and they love soccer but it does not come naturally to them for different reasons. My older girl is not often open to new experiences and so the Girls United Soccer camp was a risky thing to sign up for given that she might not like it. BUT!!! SHE LOVED IT!! couldn't wait to go every day and have since asked for more time getting private coaching with Stacey. Because of Girls United, my girl has fallen in love with soccer and has begun to see herself as an athlete and is making the connections between athletics and girl empowerment. Stacey is a mentor. It is her gift. The way she talks to my daughters is so incredible!. She is positive, direct, supportive and pushes them to their edge in the most caring way. She is REAL and relatable and I'd like her to be in the lives of my kids forever. Girls United Camps are the best! Please sign your daughter up now. They are well organized, run by older girls, are fun and offer soccer skills to boot!
