It was dead - no other visitors on a weekend afternoon, we were the only table sat for lunch. Service left a lot to be desired, they seemed to have some internal communication issues because the waitress kept saying she thought they were out of things and had to check with the kitchen, but then they did actually have ingredients in stock. She also walked away when I was in the middle of asking her a question. I think the business would benefit from further training for the service staff including suggestive selling, how to accurately quote portion sizes, and how to create a "wow" experience for customers. I do appreciate that they offer a gluten free crust (14" cauliflower), but apart from that there wasn't much "great" about it. Pizza tasted pretty average, they were sparing with toppings and sauce (except for the Ms. Figgy - that was overpowering). I'm concerned for how the business is staying open with such a large place on the waterfront, but not many patrons even on weekends. Friday night this place is hopping! I went to meet up with a few friends and some kiddos for Friday pizza night- the place was packed! We waited about 20 minutes for a table which wasn't bad at all. We ordered the garlic knots to start- this is a generous portion, and they're delicious! We then ordered several different pizzas, including one that had to be dairy-free (thank you for having that option!). We had a Tuscano pizza which was super delicious and reheated really great the next day. We also tried the veggie pizza which was tasty but didn't reheat as well. I recently did a pickup order and ran into some confusion with the spaghetti and meatballs. It wasn't clear from the menu that the meatballs contained cheese, which was an issue since someone in our group is dairy free. I ended up going back a couple of times to sort it out. The person who helped me was very kind and patient, but the process took longer than expected. As for the food, the pizza was just okay and, for the price, I expected a little more. Overall, I wouldn't say Girls With Dough would be my first choice for Italian in Wilmington, but I don't have much negative to say about the staff... they were polite and tried to make things right. We had an off the wall pizza - which was good - and wanted to come back for a "regular pizza", but when we came back it was randomly closed with no explanation on the door or I formation about reopening. We arrived at 5:45 and waited only a few minutes for a table to be cleared off. The hostess was great and very polite. The restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas time. I called the restaurant three days prior to confirm that they were going to be having trivia this night as it was one day prior to Thanksgiving. I was told that they would but when I arrived, they had a sign by the hostess stand that said "no trivia" this week. We decided to eat here regardless. We ordered an appetizer off of their seasonal menu and it took about 20 minutes for it to come out. While we waiting we saw other tables who were seated after us get their appetizers. We then ordered three pizzas for the table. One of them "Ms Figgy'" was not very good at all. It came with Gorgonzola which multiple people at the table typically like. We told our server when she came to check on us that the pizza tasted bad. Instead of offering a replacement or asking if we wanted to order something else, she said "it looks fine to me" and walked away. I was shocked at the lack of concern for the quality of food from the staff. We have eaten here many times and had mostly good experiences with the food although service is typically slow. We arrived a little before 6pm on a Saturday night and had to wait a few minutes. They texted me when our table was ready. While we waited, we walked across the street to sit in the chairs at the riverfront. You can see the sunset from inside the restaurant, depending where you sit. There is a bar inside with electrical outlets if you want to charge your phone. There are also some nice comfortable appearing couches inside with a TV- I'm assuming this is a waiting area. Free WiFi. We started off with Italian chopped salad. It was pretty small for the price. It was drenched a bit too much with their housemade Italian dressing. Could have used some black pepper. Nevertheless, the salad was still tasty and made for a petite salad for our party of three people. We tried the Margherita and Diavola pizzas. Their pizzas are 14 in and can feed one to two people each. There is gluten-free crust available for an additional charge. I didn't care for the Margherita pizza, but I did like the Diavola pizza. I liked the spiciness the cherry peppers added to the Diavola pizza. I didn't like the fresh tomatoes slices for the Margherita, I would have preferred the traditional San Marzano tomatoes. The description on the menu for the Diavola pizza having basil was misleading. It was not fresh basil, it was dried basil. I asked the waitress to confirm as well. I wonder if this was a staff error as there is an older picture of what looks like the Diavola pizza with fresh basil. The pizza crust dough was great, was crispy, probably due to the pizza screen they had it on, which helps with air circulation. Crust is on the thinner side. They cook their pizzas in a 700° oven. The waitress honored our request to ask for a side of their homemade marinara sauce. The marinara sauce tasted okay, more on the sweet side. We ended the meal with chocolate molten lava cake and cannolis. They make the chocolate cake in-house. They don't make the cannoli shell, but they do make the cannoli cream in-house. The chocolate molten lava cake was great, I would recommend this if you like chocolate. Melted warm chocolate spills out when you get to the center. I wasn't a big fan of the cannoli. Interesting they used plastic plates, but still had silver utensils and glass cups. It lowered the quality of the dining experience. Perhaps their dishwasher was broken down, I don't know. Our waitress checked in frequently to ask if we needed anything. It was a busy full night and loud, but not too loud that we had to yell at each other to be heard. They then brought out the appetizer of garlic knots, which were as hard as could be. They didn't bring plates to put the garlic knots on or knives to cut them with. Then they brought the pizza which was wrong. It had mushrooms on it which my husband is allergic to they finally brought out the correct pizza and they could have kept it. It was terrible to me. Was greeted and seated promptly. Our service was outstanding. I can't remember the gentleman's name but he was working tonight. He was the best server I've had in a long time! We tried the mozzarella appetizer, pepperoni pizza, sausage pizza, and divola pizza. All were great! It was nice we could get 1/2 and 1/2 pizzas. They were a decent size (I'd say medium when comparing to other pizza restaurants). They also had flat breads on special and the desserts looks good. We left very full. Can't wait to return! Fourth of July weekend and everywhere they serve seafood is at least a 45 minute wait. Pizza it is! This place had a great modern atmosphere and friendly service. Where do I start, this place is amazing this was our first time here and it didn't disappoint. They have the best tasting pizza, they offer vegan cheese and their garlic knots with marinara sauce were delicious. Everything was nice and hot when served including the yummy chocolate lava cake. One lunch plate was sent back as the eggs were ordered "over easy" and they arrived "sunny side up" and barely cooked at all. A friend ordered coffee and had to ask twice and finally got it luke warm. Food is so-so. 2 of us ordered the Chopped Salad and the greens were not chopped at all just dumped in the bowl. Very skimpy on the ingredients in the salad. Food presentation was none and food very so-so, run-of-the-mill that you could easily prepare at home for a tenth of the price.
