After 20 minutes of not seeing the server, I asked the host "Did you assign us a waiter?" He replied that he did then left. Came back a few minutes later and said He's taking care of some outside tables right now." A few minutes later the server came over and took our orders. I was looking for a place outside of Glacier NP to eat at and saw that just outside the train tracks there's the Glacier Highland Restaurant. It is across the street from the train station at West Glacier and also the old Benton Chalet. I often get gas at the station and never wander into the restaurant so when I did was pleasantly surprised just how nice and causal the inside was. I had the Black & Bleu salad which was a steak salad and with dressing. It was excellent value for the money and I felt very good eating it afterwards. Great restaurant in West Glacier! We didn't get pie but supposedly they're known for it. The beer was really yummy, had a great beer aftertaste. The burger was solid, the jam had a nice twist to it. The food is awful here. I got The GRIZZLY a roast beef sandwich that had grilled onions and horse radish aioli. The meat was like beef jerky and there was one tiny onion and no aioli. The fries are a greasy fat potato. The onion rings were burnt and the huckleberry pie crust is like cardboard. So not waste your money here because prices are high!! read more

Perfect place to stop for lunch after a day visiting Glacier National Park on the west side. Cute restaurant attached to a gift shop serving Uone made pies that are delicious!!! Went here for an early dinner on a Monday in June. They had some open tables so we were seated right away. Menu has a good selection of American classics and even a few healthier options. We ordered the bison sliders with fries and the rainbow trout. They also have a selection of local beers. I tried an amber ale lager which was good (Bayer). The food arrived very quickly and unfortunately it wasn't that good. I did like the huckleberry bbq sauce on the sliders but that was pretty much the best thing about them. The onion rings on top weren't good and the fries were very soft and texture was just off. The rainbow trout was ok, but the veggies were quite bland. So why the four stars you may ask ? The pie. It was delicious. I had the huckleberry peach one with ice cream. In hindsight we should have just ordered two pieces of pie. staff were friendly and quick with refills. If they can get the appetizers and entrees on the same level as the pies this could be a great restaurant. read more

We stopped into Glacier Highland Restaurant in West Glacier for an early dinner after spending the day at St. Mary's Lake on the east side. On the drive back to the west side, there aren't a lot of food options, so this was a convenient choice. Service was quick -- water and drinks (Pepsi products) arrived fast, and the food followed soon after. Hubby ordered the cheese pizza, which was delicious overall -- fresh-tasting sauce, though the crust was a little bland. I went with the chicken pot pie, which had a unique presentation: flaky pastry on the top and bottom, with shredded chicken, peas, carrots, and mashed potatoes all inside. The potatoes had a garlicky flavor I didn't love, but the chicken filling itself was tasty. Unfortunately, the one bite I gave hubby had a small chicken bone in it -- and now he's sworn off chicken pot pie for life. Not a bad stop if you're in the area and need a quick bite, but the bone incident definitely cost it a star. read more

For the best Huckleberry pie in Montana go to Glacier Highland Restaurant in West Glacier. Cherie, one of the owners makes the best pies. There are about 20 different pies on the menu. A lot with huckleberries but also coconut cream and Key Lime, which was delicious. Their other breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes are also very tasty. we were recommended by the guide from our afternoon activity that this place has great food and great pie. since we are in the region and huckleberry is in season, we wanted to give it a try. The menu is very basic, nothing looks attractive and not to mention is very OVERPRICED. when I order a fish and chips that means nothing looks i want to eat and I just go for safe order. and the fish and chips came out was a bit insulting. the fish fingers are literally finger size. so tiny and i was hungry after the meal had to get a second meal elsewhere. They do have a very large selections of pie. according to local this is the best pie in town. $10 a slice for an ok flavor. What a hidden Gem and closest to the West Glacier park entrance!! Stopped into the convenience store/gas station on our way into the park and noticed this cute little restaurant, looked at the menu and spoke with a server who noted everything is made from scratch!! We returned for dinner after driving the entire Going to the Sun Road and were seated and served immediately. We didn't try an appetizer as the entrees we noticed all had large portions and we wanted to save room for one of their dozen or so homemade pies! Wonderful quesadillas filled with cheese, beans and chicken pot pie with a puff pastry and shredded chicken in every bite! We had the Coconut cream pie and Razzleberry pie (warmed with ice cream) and both were sooo good! We're going back tomorrow night for their homemade local bison meatloaf and Huckleberry hound burger and two more slices of pie!! They also have homemade fresh dough pizzas that looked great!! My family and I ate at this restaurant twice, once for supper and once for breakfast. Can not recommend this place enough. We had pizza for supper which was so cheesy and had a satisfying crust! Came here after hiking all day in Glacier National Park. We ordered these items: buffalo meatloaf with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables (broccoli and carrots), chicken pot pie, hiking poles (essentially a flatbread with pesto and cheese), a slice of huck-peach pie a la mode, and a slice of huckleberry lemon cream pie. Overall, our consensus was that the food is good but pricey for what you get. The pies are $8 a slice regardless of whether you get them a la mode or on their own. The buffalo meatloaf gravy was flavorful and the meatloaf wasn't dry. The chicken pot pie was unique in that it was deconstructed with the filling sandwiched between two flaky layers of puff pastry. The hiking poles were amazing. We didn't have any expectations but we couldn't stop eating them. If you're visiting Glacier, looking for a good meal, and aren't on a tight budget, Glacier Highland Restaurant is a solid option. read more

I asked for a refreshing beer as I was tired after st Mary falls hike and one more hike and drove all the way back from St Mary to Apgar village.
