I was visiting from out of town and looking for a delicious dinner and this was definitely the spot! My favorite kind of dinner is breakfast for dinner so when I saw that they serve breakfast all day I knew this was a spot for me. I got the biscuits and gravy plate and it was delicious. I loved the gravy and the biscuits were cooked to perfection. I also ordered the cherry pie à la mode and that was delicious as well. If you are visiting from out of town like and going to glacier national Park, I would definitely check this place out. Such a cool hidden treasure! They welcomed our party of 15 like it was just another Tuesday, no stress at all. We were a party of four and agreed that our server was very nice. No complaints there. The problem for me was that the meal was "way overly salty." I had the Nite Owl Club Sandwich and beef/vegetable soup. Salt, salt, salt in both the sandwich and the soup. It seemed like the "chef" found the food was perfectly salted according to his/her taste. A basket of saltine crackers was provided and I thought that was kind of funny. What does a diner do when the food is too salty for their taste? A diner can send it back and hope that the pot of soup and sandwich ingredients from which the meal came are not already highly salted. If a diner doesn't have the time to order a new meal or doesn't want to appear picky or a food snob to others then what? Eat it anyway? I would like to remind management that a diner can always add salt to a meal but cannot remove it. Not everyone likes highly salted food. I am one who does not and therefore found the meal to be unacceptable. read more

This was another bust on our Montana trip. They have a lot of good reviews but our experience was far from positive. The dining room was really loud. They were out of a number of menu items which to me, says they don't run a very good kitchen. I decided to try the steak medallions and asked for them rare only to be told they don't cook them to order by temp. Weird. What I got was dry and chewy. The BBQ sauce is from a jar I'm certain and wasn't very good. My wife ordered brisket and it was also really dry and poorly cooked. They only thing I liked was the fry bread with honey butter. The rest of the meal was not worth the money or the time waiting to get it. There are much better options nearby IMHO. read more

Ate here twice on our trip. Once we came in right before they closed and they didn't mind at all. They served us and treated us great. Excellent country food We found this place driving back to kalispell from glacier. They have great ribs and sides, the service is friendly and the portion sizes are big. This was the perfect place for a big meal after hiking all day in glacier national park! Note- they have 2 menus. One for the Night Owl which is more like a breakfast/lunch and one for the Back Room which is more like a dinner bar b que. if you want ribs, steak or chicken order off the Back Room menu. The sign out front has both Night Owl and Back Room on it. See the pic below. Also they have 3 types of ribs. I think they were baby back ribs, country ribs and pork. To get our orders, and drop them off. Then stood over my shoulder as I wrote out the tip. Ribs were okay. Fry Bread was very odd, but not too bad. Salad was fantastic, you can tell the veggies are all fresh. Pizza and Mac and Cheese were clearly frozen. I would recommend going over to Moose's Saloon. I've been coming to The Backroom for more than 20 years. And basically it has not changed. Sure the old newsprint plastic tablecloths are gone and the cards are all missing from the ceiling and the menus are less sticky, but it's the same. Maybe you get one less red potato on the side. But the fry bread is just as tasty and the beans are just as salty and the Long Island Ice teas are just as yummy. Baby back ribs are my favorite with all the trimmings and an extra side salad with blue cheese dressing. I get a Long Island Ice tea or maybe a cold smoke on tap. Or I like a huckleberry mule. The brisket is also really good and so are the spare ribs. Even the salads are excellent and the pizza is not bad either. The Backroom is a family staple and is best after a long day at the park, on the river or paddle boarding on the lake. Generations to come will continue to enjoy the Backroom. read more

The Backroom specialises in BBQ chicken and pork. We entered and were seated right away by one of their seasoned staff. We both had the pork ribs and the pig did not disappoint. Very tender with fall off the bone juicy goodness. The baked beans and cole slaw were average but the "Fry Bread" was a near Funnel Cake twin. Slap on some sweet butter and honey and enter heaven. Let me start by saying we've been coming here for years. We went in this week and our servers name was OCEAN. I know she is the granddaughter of the lady upfront that is never helpful and just walking back-and-forth very rude. Anyway, we ordered salad waited for half an hour and then asked her very nicely if she knew if our order was almost ready. Her reply was you've only waited 20 minutes! Are you kidding me?!!!You don't say that to customers first of all, we waited, a half an hour and second of all that's no way to answer our legitimate and simple question! so you're telling us it takes half an hour to make a salad...is what we should've said but we instead we said, OK so we'll pay for our drinks and we need to leave. I see other complaints on here. Also about this waitress named ocean get your act together backroom you really have poor service and rude waitresses!! We will not be back. I'm sure due to the fact that she's a relative of the rude lady upfront. She'll never get fired. Learn how to treat your customers backroom and while you're at it improve your food. Donna was delightful! See just added to the wonderful experience here. We sat out on the patio. We tried a couple local brews and a great Moscow mule made with bourbon, fantastic! OMG, THE FRY BREAD!!! There are not words about how great it was, but all the food was amazing. We had fried chicken and fish and chips. We ate dinner here four times during our week's stay in Columbia Falls. That says it all, doesn't it? The food is good comfort food and very reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and hard working. The place is clean and comfortable. I would give five stars except for the fact that the wait time is longer due to staffing shortages, a problem which currently plagues most restaurants these days. read more
