We stopped here on our way to Hood River and I wrestled with the choice of a Margherita pizza or a gyro. I finally made a choice I wouldn't regret! The lamb was so tender and juice. It was seasoned perfectly. The pita bread was perfect and didn't fall apart or crumble and held the juices from the lamb and the Greek tzatziki sauce perfectly. The fries!! OMG the fries!! I've never tasted fries anything like them. They were squiggly not curly. They had a light seasoning and were the best quality and texture perfectly crisped in the frier. My husband ordered the margharita pizza and it lacked seasoning to be honest. The sauce needed garlic and the basil didn't have enough flavor. My husband really liked it but agreed it needed more seasoning. I was a little disappointed not to get a soda refill and our waitress was a little busy as the lunch crowd started filling up the restaurant. To be fair we sat outside so we were unaware that it was getting busy inside. I definitely will rerun for the gyro (I've nicknamed it the crack sandwich) and will highly recommend it. Used to come here back in the day before the previous owners moved it and then brought it back. Tried it again recently and they have gone way downhill. Ironic for a place that serves lots of skiers and mountain bikers (Get it?). Service is slow. Food is mediocre. Tap list is mostly fruity things or CBD whatevers. Very little beer for "public house". I would say this place is pretty mid. We like it for the idea of stopping somewhere cozy for a drink and some food after a little adventure on Mt. Hood. It's not especially cozy though.. We've been here several times, and I would say it's a solid 3 star spot. However, our most recent visit was pretty disappointing. The server kindly checked to make sure they could accommodate for my partner's fish allergy and to see if we could do a half/half pizza. We got half margherita & half P&G. They were decent, but honestly not worth the $16-$17. I think tomatoes on the marg & prosciutto on the P&G would have been tastier. The disappointing part, though, was their fries & cheese fondue.. mostly the fondue. The fries were extremely salty. We even tried wiping the salt off and dunking them in the fondue, which was much less salty. The fondue, on the other hand, had the consistency of broth. It was super runny and watered down. Bummer.. and definitely--definitely--not worth the extra $4! The fries were also not worth the $8. I also got a hot toddy, and that was pretty yummy, so I'll give them that! read more

In town for an overnight. Stopped in for a beer and bite to eat before checking into our accommodation. The place is rustic, nothing fancy, has a miniature gondola running across the bar! Staff is super friendly. Ordered and IPA and a pizza. The pizza was the P&G. Pear slices with Gorgonzola, walnuts, etc. the pizza was delicious! The crust was crunchy. Service was fast. Pricing is reasonable. We sat at a table of very friendly locals. Definitely recommend this location. The food on other guests plates looked wonderful. Presentation is notable. Stop in! read more

Enjoyed this place in multiple occasions during my time at MtHood. The fact that I could walk here from my lodging helped! Just had the right vibe, good games to play on the patio (had a few Yahtzee games going!). My dog really enjoyed it and I was glad they had one of my fave red wines, a Zweigelt, for an affordable price. Thought that this was just another burger place, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the food is creative and tasty. Don't pass it by.

First, I must say that the average yelp rating for this place is completely misleading. We went there around 8pm after a fun filled day of snow activities, and the place is cozy and charming! They have a really nice selection of beer on tap and a full bar with cocktails that are tempting. I had a stout and relished the brew strength in the winter weather. The food is to die for! The potato croquettes are so well flavored and crunchy on the outside, served on a bed of marinara sauce. They melt in your mouth. We got the salmon burger and the pulled pork next. While there was nothing very special about the fries they came with, the pulled pork itself was juicy, really well smoked and delivered a burst of flavor on every bite! It was hard to stop eating. Their salmon burger again was incredibly tasty and had the right texture. Skip the dessert, and enjoy some great beer and warm food at this lovely joint when you're out in the area for snow activities. You won't be disappointed! read more

Since November 2022, the Glacier House has been under new ownership, and the food has really improved! Chef Charles Barker used to run London Catering in Portland and Mazama Lodge, and he is returning this eatery to its former glory as a top notch German restaurant. Pizza dough is made from scratch and makes the best pizza in Govy. Many things are made in-house, including pickles, salad dressings and a soup that changes daily. The dinners are off-the-hook delicious. They all come with stone ground mustard and homemade sauerkraut. I especially love the chicken schnitzel, which is breaded perfectly, almost with a little crunch. There's also a cauliflower schnitzel which my wife adores. The entrees are served with homemade mashed potatoes - true comfort food! Other highlights: * Excellent salads, including the Mazama salad which features on a bed of lettuce: seasonal roasted veggies, quinoa, sunflower seeds and walnuts. * Fun drinks. I expected good beer; I didn't expect Italian sodas! * Potato croquettes: Speaking of mashed potatoes - imagine deep frying them in a golden brown crust. These delightful little balls pack over-the-top flavor! * Bavarian sausage is top-notch, from SP Provisions, one of the best in the Northwest. * The kids in our party loved the burgers, and everyone loved the crazy-shaped Sidewinder fries. * There's not a huge selection for dessert, but what they have is perfect: A fantastic Oregon berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream, and a "frozen hot chocolate" that's just the right treat on the mountain. The old Glacier Haus was the best restaurant in Govy for many years. Discovered the place after hiking to Mirror Lake and so glad I did! The atmosphere was chill with great beers on tap and friendly staff. I had the bratwurst which was perfect for my appetite after the hike. Came with fries and enjoyed them with aioli dip. Great views to sit outside with such great weather! I LOVE going to the Glacier House! The food is incredible and the ambience is inviting and friendly. Govy can be very honky took locals-make-you-feel-awkward. The Glacier House feels more inclusive and more like a ski chalet from the 80's in a very hipster way. I think it's under new ownership so there are some German plates back on the menu; schnitzel, pickled herring, bratwurst. The chicken schnitzel was dry and bland and the garlic mashed potatoes were from a box. They had no garlic taste. That dish alone was $25. Way over-priced. The chicken in the spicy chicken sandwich was tough, like it had been sitting for awhile. The sidewinder fries are just frozen and from a bag. The last time we were in Government Camp, this place was the Glacier Haus Restaurant that had a more European vibe to it with more German food options. There's still one or two things on the menu like that, but the menu is now a bit more traditional food. I got the pork sandwich, which was great, and the soup. Others had the burger, which was good, and the kids had corn dog bites and grilled cheese that were also good. Also tried the Hood River grilled cheese with apples and bleu cheese - it was good, but not what I would call grilled cheese since the bleu cheese was very strong. I don't like to always give three stars but there were a couple things about this business that made it difficult to be able to get to the establishment or get the food that I want it. So for that unfortunately I'm gonna drop a star because they were quite major. Nothing is very busy during summer in that area and yet phone calls were not being taken to check hours and availability. Then when we showed up hoping to grab some to go food to bring back up to timberline they were out of to go boxes and we're only able to do dining in. Now I know that that is not a huge dealbreaker but the fact that we had plans to bring other food back for members of our group made it quite a shake up and resort in us having to go to two different restaurants. Now for an elite yelper like me that's just an excuse for another restaurant to try but we did have some unhappy people in our party. We went ahead and grabbed a few different items only had the chance to take a photo of the one because I was starting to get those weird looks from the family as I was taking hot photo items of their food. We all know that but everything that touched that fryer or grill came out delicious the fries were good thing for simple nothing to write home about but definitely above standard mountain food which seems has been getting a little better than in years past. Being from Portland, we were wanting to see the snow so we took a day trip up the mountain. With indoor dining closed (covid, 2021) we wanted to find a place with outdoor seating, good food and either heaters or fire pits. Saw Glacier Pulic House and decided to try them out, and so glad we did! Their burger and fries were delicious and the Irish coffee was perfect for enjoying outside on a snowy day! The wife and I had the Bloody Mary. They had this weird sour taste. We just couldn't put our finger on what it was that we were tasting. Got sallmon cakes and the white sauce had another weird sour taste, and the cakes had more cake mix than salmon. Wife wanted pizza and they were out of pepperoni. The waitress mentioned they were out of pepperoni and suggested chicken with I think capocollo. Chicken was dry and not seasoned and ham looking stuff wasn't nothing to write home about. Wife said the sauce tasted wierd. Wasn't good at all. I got gyro and the meat was sliced very very thin. Frozen Premade slices that's heated up on the grill is my guess. Something is off about this place. I dunno. Feels like the place doesn't care about putting quality stuff out. Bill came out to $90 and would have been happier with a couple double cheese's from McDonald's. I can't say much Glacier Public House since we didn't spend that much time here - just enough for a night cap. They were one of the few places still open after 8pm near where we were staying in Government Camp. Though they were getting ready to close down in half an hour, they welcomed us in. The food was limited to fried items at the time since it was close to closing, so we stuck with cocktails. My friend and I both go hot toddies which warmed us right up. Our server was nice and even gave us all stickers, which I am a sucker for. The food menu looked pretty good, so I'd give this place abother shot when I'm back. read more
