Excellent meal, nice location, lots of drink selections and friendly staff! I think this place is very underrated. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed!!

In town for an overnight. Stopped in for a beer and bite to eat before checking into our accommodation. The place is rustic, nothing fancy, has a miniature gondola running across the bar! Staff is super friendly. Ordered and IPA and a pizza. The pizza was the P&G. Pear slices with Gorgonzola, walnuts, etc. the pizza was delicious! The crust was crunchy. Service was fast. Pricing is reasonable. We sat at a table of very friendly locals. Definitely recommend this location. The food on other guests plates looked wonderful. Presentation is notable. Stop in!

Enjoyed this place in multiple occasions during my time at MtHood. The fact that I could walk here from my lodging helped! Just had the right vibe, good games to play on the patio (had a few Yahtzee games going!). My dog really enjoyed it and I was glad they had one of my fave red wines, a Zweigelt, for an affordable price. The food looked awesome but I didn't eat there so I cannot comment on it - did seem to have veggie and vegan options. When I'm back in the area, I'll be here!

Since November 2022, the Glacier House has been under new ownership, and the food has really improved! Chef Charles Barker used to run London Catering in Portland and Mazama Lodge, and he is returning this eatery to its former glory as a top notch German restaurant. Pizza dough is made from scratch and makes the best pizza in Govy. Many things are made in-house, including pickles, salad dressings and a soup that changes daily. The dinners are off-the-hook delicious. They all come with stone ground mustard and homemade sauerkraut. I especially love the chicken schnitzel, which is breaded perfectly, almost with a little crunch. There's also a cauliflower schnitzel which my wife adores. The entrees are served with homemade mashed potatoes - true comfort food! Other highlights: * Excellent salads, including the Mazama salad which features on a bed of lettuce: seasonal roasted veggies, quinoa, sunflower seeds and walnuts. * Fun drinks. I expected good beer; I didn't expect Italian sodas! * Potato croquettes: Speaking of mashed potatoes - imagine deep frying them in a golden brown crust. These delightful little balls pack over-the-top flavor! * Bavarian sausage is top-notch, from SP Provisions, one of the best in the Northwest. * The kids in our party loved the burgers, and everyone loved the crazy-shaped Sidewinder fries. * There's not a huge selection for dessert, but what they have is perfect: A fantastic Oregon berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream, and a "frozen hot chocolate" that's just the right treat on the mountain. The old Glacier Haus was the best restaurant in Govy for many years. It then became a fun brewpub, but now, with the new menu that nods to the old days, and the vintage photos and ski gear on the walls, it's once again the best restaurant in town!

Discovered the place after hiking to Mirror Lake and so glad I did! The atmosphere was chill with great beers on tap and friendly staff. I had the bratwurst which was perfect for my appetite after the hike. Came with fries and enjoyed them with aioli dip. Great views to sit outside with such great weather! Look forward to returning when I visit Government Camp again!

First off our server was wonderful and so was the Berry Cobbler. Unfortunately, our entrees, Chicken Pesto Pasta and Ahi Tuna Burger were truly second rate. Can you say "tough and over cooked as possible?" Wife felt sick from her pasta so not likely returning soon.

Ask the Community - Glacier Public House

I visited Sunday, January 5 around 7 pm and it was closed. Does anyone know if this business is closed down?

Hi Brent, we closed at about 4:30 on the 5th. We are a brand new restaurant and are currently ramping up staffing. Due to a small, wonderful, but extremely overworked staff, we decided to close early on a slow Sunday evening to give them a chance to…

Ordered 2 beers and a pizza, and took a growler home filled with the 10.3% ABV Stout I was served. Our ticket wasn't too bad and the pizza was good. They have a captive audience on the mountain there- as we were seated there must have been 35 or so people plowing in after us. I enjoyed the respite from drive and would return.

It was also in the middle of a heat wave in OR, so we asked to sit outside. After my husband snagged our table, I brought our well-trained and well-behaved Siberian with us to the patio. There was another poorly-behaved dog, but my dog could not have cared any less, and it was far enough away that it didn't bother me too much either. The outdoor seating was minimal and basic, but did the job. Thankfully there was shade from the umbrellas. I put my dog in his "tuck" command under me as he is trained to do at restaurants, and proceeded to look at the menu. To be honest, the food looked pretty good, and also smelled pretty good, as I watched other patrons get their meals. However, we were still pretty stuffed, so we settled with a beer flight. The beers were out to our table pretty quickly, but after trying them, my husband and I came to the consensus that we expected more from the only brewing company in town. As another Yelper put it, the beers fell flat for us too. I was hoping there would be more/different notes to each beer, which is the whole point of sampling multiple, but they all seemed quite monotone. It started getting pretty warm underneath our umbrella, so we quickly wrapped up our beer flight and left. The view was gorgeous, and the location splendid (hence the 4 stars), and perhaps next time I'd be down to try one of their dishes, specifically the elkburger, but I was a little disappointed in the beer. I've been to plenty of breweries to enjoy beers there and also bought craft beers/growlers for home, so I'd like to say I'm decently versed in beer, but this missed the mark.

My fiance planned a wonderful mountain getaway for us, and lucky for me- we had dinner reservations here. It was so chilly in December, We had a cold mountain day, and we bundled up to go to our dinner reservations and I have to say- I wasn't expecting much when I heard the name "Grill". I was thinking- burgers, fries, your typical post-ski grub. I was wrooong! We strolled into the coziest little restaurant and were greeted by the two lovely people working there. Felt like I very sweet family vibe. They steered us in the directions of the pasta dishes we ordered, and we had the Soup of the Day to start- I believe it was some kind of Tomato bisque and that hit the spot. The Hazelnut pasta was a hit for my fiance, and I loved that he got to try such a classic Oregon flavor in a pasta- how fun. My chanterelle ravioli filled me up so fast, I also loved being able to try chanterelles in this format. Both dishes felt very creative and full of so much Oregon pride! Delicious!

Great service, great drinks, and the best pizza I've had in decades!…read more The beers Backwoods makes are all delicious and smooth-drinking. The service staff was all exceptional. But the pizza! Off the charts!, FULL REVIEW of all Services: If anyone who enjoys hiking, river fishing, or just a general outdoor-focused vacation wants a good, simple getaway with their spouse/loved one, check out the Backwoods brand in Carson, Washington (just north-northeast of Bridge of the Gods/Cascades Locks). Backwoods Cabins offers a really great overnight stay option. The 8 cabins there are all basic "two-room" designs (bedroom and attached bathroom, and a living room / mini-kitchen room). The cabins sport king-sized beds, a gas fireplace and outdoor fire, a mini kitchen with refrigerator/freezer and microwave (no stove/range). I think 3 of the 8 cabins welcome dogs. The Backwoods brand also owns Backwoods Brewery, which is just across the road from the cabin property. They have great microbrew beers (from light lagers to GREAT stouts!). The brewery also has a smokehouse, with fantastic smoked brisket, pulled pork, and house-made sausage/brats. But even better, the Backwoods Brewery offers the BEST PIZZA I've had in decades. The pizza dough is a perfect balance of flavor and texture. It's not too thin and not too thick. The crust is chewy in the middle, with a great crusty edge and base. The red sauce (they also have a white sauce we didn't try) is thick and rich, with a few tomato chunks. It's got a slight spicy bite with a sweet finish. They also have some unique house pizzas. We tried the Whistle Punk - Red sauce, bacon, smoked brisket, peppadew peppers, sweet onions, fresh mozzarella rounds - and the Pepperoni Express - Red sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, tomatoes, banana peppers, smoked mozzarella. Both were outstanding. I'd go so far as to say both Donna and I deemed these the best pizzas we've had in 35+ years (noting that our first date was at a pizza joint in Fife we both thought was the best-ever pizza). If you stay in the Backwoods Cabins, you get two coupons for free drinks at the brewery (beer/wine/cider/cocktails) as well as an assortment of snacks for your hiking adventures, and a full S'mores kit to use over the gas fire pit. And if you are in a dog-friendly cabin, you get complimentary treats, and water/food bowls for your canines.

This brewery could be one of the best I have ever been to and believe me, I have been to many…read more Every beer in our flight was clean and delicious. The food was outstanding and elevated.
