If I could give this place 6 stars I would. In a land of bar/grills and pizza places, Koya was a nice change of pace. Don't let the "it's a food truck" scare you off - the food was excellent. Fresh and tasty. I would have liked a larger portion (i got the katsu curry), but quite enoyed what I did get. The ambiance was funky (in a good way) and fun, with plenty of seating options. Atmosphere was chill and relaxed, with that "Oregon vibe" to it. We sat outside, but there is indoor seating available in the bar / gift shop, which deserves its own few minutes to browse through while waiting for your food. I found this place based on a recommendation from my hotel staff. First, it is delicious. I had the Yaki Udon but the menu features several ramens and other versions. It is a unique and beautiful setting in the Mt. Hood Villages, Welches specifically. Great choices of noodles, beers cocktails and the place to sit. Either in the lovely outdoor wooded patios or the indoor bus. Dog friendly. Friendly servers who are very knowledgeable. I had a great Oregon Brewery Summer ale which accompanied my noodle dish perfectly. Of course, since I was in Oregon, I had to have a slice of Marionberry pie. Delish. We have been wanting to try this roadside restaurant for a while. It's on the way to Mt. Hood from Portland and it's an Asian inspired restaurant which seems a bit out of place. It was actually really good. You order in the back at the food truck and get your number. The inside has lots of live plants and you can find your own seat, order drinks and we got chai. Tried this place when we went on a weekend trip to Mt hood. It's on the way to Mt hood. It's a cute little place serving Japanese and Thai food. We tried pad Thai, kimchi fried rice and edamame. All of them were good. Got some tea too since its was raining outside and a warm tea is just what we needed. There are hot drinks options with mulled wine, hot toddy etc. They had good sake collection. It's a very cozy place with a cute store inside. The service is really good too. read more

We decided to give Koya Kitchen a try and the food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The service was friendly and the food came out quick. The interior is cute with a little gift shop and a bunch of hanging plants. It also looks like they have a cool outdoor seating area, but I didn't get to check it out since it was raining. When you get here, you order your food at the food truck then they give you a buzzer so they can let you know when your order is ready. A surprising find in Mt. Hood Village! We stopped by Koya Kitchen for a late late lunch and found this cute little food truck restaurant. Their menu offers a wide range of asian food - from sushi to pad Thai, curry, etc. The owners are super nice and the restaurant itself was a bit eclectic. There's also a small souvenir soup next to the restaurant and they have a full bar as well. Noteworthy to mention, their Yaki Meshi was beyond amazing - highly recommend, don't sleep on this!! However, the Katsu Curry was lackluster, it seemed like the curry sauce had too much carrot or pumpkin puree and it didn't have enough curry flavor. The pad Thai was just alright, so the Yaki Meshi definitely out-shined all the dishes we ordered. On vacation at nearby Mount Hood. What a cozy reprieve from the flurries of snow. It's sort of like a house cabin with a food cart in the back. So you order food outside at the food cart and order drinks indoor at the bar area. They give you a pager and you go out again to pick up the food. It was a bit wet with the heavy rain, but felt like part of an adventure so I didn't mind. The food: Yaki Soba with Chicken. I really enjoyed it. It was fairly simple, probably something I could make at home. But considering being nearby a ski resort area, it was a really nice comfort food. Miso Ramen. Best ramen I've ever had? No. Best ramen I've had in a small town nearby a ski resort? Probably! My son was pleased with some soupy comfort escape from the pouring rain outside. I've been driving by this quirky divot on the highway several times a week for at least 4 years. I was always intrigued, but never stopped in. Ok, when I could stop, they're not open. The pains of working nights. Well, I finally worked my schedule to stay awake and dragged my sister here. Koya may be quirky, but they put out some mighty good food. From the sushi, to the salads, to the pad thai special everything was good to great. They put their own spin on the cucumber salad and the seaweed salad and both worked s very well. The sushi were both fantastic, and the flavor profile on the pad thai was wonderful. It was so worth the trip for the food, and the gift shop. "KOYA" means Little House/Lodge in Japanese. Yelp shows 4 stars! Of course I was expecting good Japanese Foods. They have good Japanese food selections as well as drink (Sake, Japanese Beer and IPA) selections. Restaurant was cute, cozy, clean and welcoming. Especially their bathroom was clean!!!! Services are great and all staffs were very friendly. However, their foods were disappointed. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and Chicken Karaage. Sushi's rice were undercooked partially and Chicken Karaage was little over cooked and chopped up like "popcorn chicken" size. I believe their Chicken Karaage were marinated before cook and Flavor was good but we were questioning the "Freshness". Services, Atmosphere and staff were great. so We don't want to say "We won't go back there again", but we are looking forward to seeing their improvements soon. read more

I hate pickled ginger. I find the flavor extremely offensive and it can easily overpower a dish when a bite of it yields nothing but the taste of pickled ginger. I think overall my biggest complaint about the food was that a lot of it was out of balance. The "poke" bowl had great parts but the Kim chee made the whole thing way too acidic. Actually as a dish it didn't make a ton of sense. Also contained both kinds of pickled ginger. The sushi was pretty good. The rice was under seasoned as was the tuna but with some soy (sorry Japanese purists) it actually brought the whole together. I got the yaki meshi. I actually liked it a lot. Except the damn pickled ginger. It was not only on the top but spread all through so often there would be a bite where the pickled ginger just dominated. Tempura was decent. There were two new things I had never had. The black mushroom and the shallots. I now get why the former is not a thing but the shallot was pretty amazing. I don't know why that's not a thing. The potstickers are not really of the Japanese style and the filling is a little weak. The kid likes dumplings so it works. The udon seasoning was way off. Traditional udon has a very light flavor but this was very dark and too salty. I think calling it Japanese is definitely inaccurate. I could abide with pan Asian. read more

We got 4 sushi dishes as we love sushi and regularly go to different sushi restaurants. Don't get me wrong, the food was pretty good until we got to the mushroom rolls. There was an off taste about them. Sure enough, 3 hours later both my wife and I got sick. She has been up most of the night stuck in the restroom. I feel sick but nowhere as bad as her. This place is great, surrounded by a lot of breweries, and "American Food" in Government Camp/Zig Zag area. This is a very unique place. My first visit there was Saturday July 16th, 2022. It was really crowded on a Saturday night, but the service was quick respectively. I don't know if they have always had that format, where you walk up and order the food- from a food-cart/truck type structure. And, then you go inside to order a drink, and then find a table in the courtyard outside. Perhaps, before the pandemic they had table service, but for now it seems adequate with the order-as-you go format. The courtyard/garden area was a little free-range, and whimsical but it was a great place to spend the evening. I don't know what cold, and rainy or snowy winters will look like for that restaurant, as outdoor seating is not as desirable. But, for now, in July it was a really great place to be.
