First time at the Gladstone Tavern. Our family went with another family, for a total of four adults, one teenager (with a sophisticated palate) and three eight year olds. We were seated upstairs, in a room that had (mostly) large tables. Service was prompt and efficient despite our being in Siberia. The server's suggestions were helpful and her descriptions were accurate. She seemed to know the menu, including the cocktail menu, well. The food was uniformly good. It didn't rival the Bernards Inn, but the prices didn't, either. My skillet chicken was moist and flavorful. My wife's rack of lamb was good; she and one of our other companions thought it was too sweet, the rest of us thought it was fine. My son's duck was on the sweet side, although it was perfectly cooked. Everyone else was very happy with their main courses. We only had a couple of desserts. I had a ridiculous chocolate confection with peanut butter cream and marshmallow fluff that made me wish I could bake. Basically, I ate it with my spoon and defended it with my fork. Had lunch again today, was so looking forward to a great burger after I raved the last time I reviewed Gladstone tavern . Sorry to say today's burger fell short of my expectations. I was very specific in the way I ordered the burger: medium rare and juicy. The waiter replied it would be red in the middle and very juicy- I said that's exactly what I want and what I had during my last visit here. My burger today was overcooked and bone dry. I won't return for a burger. Having said that, my husbands pea soup was delicious and he liked the grilled cheese sandwich. The ambiance is nice here, though we had a friendly and likeable waiter the service for our table was very slow. Coffee wasn't ready when our carmelized cashew tart came out, and we had to ask for the pea soup... Well return, but my expectations are lower now. read more

Just had an unbelievable Christmas Eve dinner at the Gladstone tavern! From the cocktails to the appetizers ( king crab legs!) to the surprise visit from mr and mrs clause! Every meal we ordered was delicious... Tuna, duck, surf and turf, mahi mahi and the the pasta and clams. The best part of our meal was our server Eric! So fun and friendly!!!! Disappointed that fireplace wasn't operational for cold, post Nor'easter evening when it would have been perfect. Barmistress Jasmine efficient yet warm and hospitable. Her recommended duck breast cooked exactly to my medium-rare order, accompanied by (again) her recommended barolo. She rejected the first espresso to insure mine was creama-topped. Would be my hang-out if I was local. I don't understand the negative reviews. Everyone strives to ensure you have a positive experience. read more

My wife and I have been here on multiple occasions because you never know what to expect. You can come for two visits and find the food and service fantastic. then you come for another dinner and you say to yourself did they sell the place this is horrible. Last night it was horrible. The waitress appeared scared and mixed up the drink order and then the drinks were the worst I have ever tasted at Gladstone Tavern. The assistants that bring the bread, would not smile when there was no butter and we pored the oil and crushed the pepper ourselves into plates the we took from another table since were not given one. I asked our waitress about two of the appetizers and she ok I will get ordered. I said no, I wanted your opinion about the two and she oh get this one its good. So we did and the spicy squid was good. She was also confused as to why we would order our entree when she was taking the appetizer order, but we for through that. The haddock was good the chicken snitzel was horrible. Couldn't even finish it. Did not want to take a chance on dessert or coffee so we paid the bill and left. Not sure why the inconsistency at this establishment but would not go out of my way for it. read more

We thought it would be a nice idea to go out to dinner for our 1 month anniversary as Husband and Wife. We found Gladstone Tavern on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Our Waitress was GiGi, and right away she made us feel so warm and welcome. GiGi was so friendly and really made the night so enjoyable. We smiled the entire dinner from the time the bread came out, until we were walking out the door. Our entrees were so delicious! My husband had the NY steak and I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel-both were very delicious. We even had dessert-which was mouth watering good! We had the best dinner experience which made our night absolutely perfect. We will definitely be back for more! read more

My family and I have been coming to the Tavern about once a month for the last year or so. Always a winner. My kids love the zucchini fries and the crunchy fried squid, and my wife absolutely adores the crab tots. Meaty, fresh, and the sauces are terrific (Note to owner: sell them in jars!) As a "meat and potatoes" guy, I can't pass up on a good ribeye, and this place doesn't dissapoint. A nice cut, always comes out juicy and the accompanying sides complement the dish nicely. You also can't beat the desserts and ice cream here, they just keep getting better, especially the new marshmellow smores cake! We have always been made to feel welcome by the staff here. Gigi, Everet, Weeshon (I'm sorry if I spelled that wrong!), and everyone always makes us feel at home! If I had any "complaint", it's that they don't offer a light beer on tap, but I enjoy trying new things as well! I truly recommend the Tavern for families and anyone who just wants a great meal! read more

My husband and I stopped in yesterday, Father's Day, to the bar. This was our first visit. The bar is quite small and very charming -- good wine selection, lots of exotic cocktails if that's your thing. A very nice atmosphere! For this I will go back. But the appetizers were...meh. They are somewhat pricey, "artistic" (barbecued pancakes, i.e. shredded beef on tiny pancakes), lemon hummus (tasteless) and some kind of octopus thing, very chewy and unmemorable. Next time I would get drinks, and a basket of french fries or bread. I have not had dinner there so I will look forward to that experience soon. read more

We were a party of four, and arrived just before one for lunch. The service was a bit slow, but it was very crowded, and the noise level was very high. I ordered the hangar steak medium, it was more like rare, a bit chewy, and barely warm. Ray ordered the salmon with BBQ sauce, but it came out naked, not even salt & pepper, his also just warm. Our companions each had lobster rolls, and enjoyed them. Two of us had the peach cobbler for dessert, one had the lemon cheesecake, and the other the blueberry pie. The cobbler was excellent, cheesecake said to be good also. The pie had a lavender flavor in it, and I did not like the taste I had, and Ray would have liked it better without it. read more

Awesome lunch at the bar with a fantastic bartender, Robby. Had a glass of Cab, a veggie burger and the tavern salad. Portions are large and the food was amazing. It's been a while since I've been here and it's time to go back. First time was an ad lib around San Gennero time (end of September), 2012. Decided to go for a nice drive with my girlfriend and we ended up with outside seating. Great bread, good wine, and nice salads. I went back subsuquently for a quick bite to each with my aunt - and again had a good meal. Since then, have been back twice - and one time, it was bar seating. Had the best mixed drink i've ever had (gin with homemade rosemary syrup) - yummy. Looking forward to my next excursion. I love the town, love the tavern. read more

Hello Lamb Shanks! Made a reservation and requested a seat by the fire - which was granted. Had a cocktail and went right for the entrees. Our server was great, and not pushy. He was knowledgeable about a few items on the menu I was not familiar with (John Dory?). I went for the lamb shanks, and they were great. I had previously not chosen any lamb dishes, but I think that's because I don't like chops. Pork chops, lamb chops. Any kind of chops. Shanks on the other hand. Wow! Meat was fall off the bone tender, well seasoned and sauced, and was very filling. The atmosphere was relaxed. The bar area is separate and was clearly inhabited by weary commuters catching a beer on their way home from the train station. The dining area was quiet despite a few big parties, and the tables were not too close together. I will be back next time I am in the area. I want to try the John Dory. read more

My husband and I spent a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Gladstone Tavern with our children. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the food delicious. I had the salmon, which was incredibly flavorful and not fishy in the least. When I requested a GF substitute for the side, the staff accommodated quickly. My husband had a special on the menu, the John Dory fish, and he loved it. The staff was very nice and quick to fill up water glasses and refill the bread basket. If anything was a down side, it was that they were a little too quick to clear the plates (one time not giving my daughter time to finish her meal - but she's a very slow eater). I love the food! Had the fried green tomato BLT! Green, yellow and red tomatoes with baby kale, fried tomatoes and bacon! Soo good! And lobster black fettuccine, and there was large pieces of lobster!! There was 1/2 of 1 1/2 lb lobster as part of the dish... I asked the server! and fresh house made black fettuccine. So delicious. Great music! We sat on their terrace, the fireplace was on, the live music was fantastic! And then... The was the peach "honey-pie" ... Heaven! and house made vanilla bean ice cream! The food is OK but the service is very inconsistent. This restaurant remains very busy because there are not a lot of options in town. If you can't be seated in the main dining room, don't bother to sit upstairs, you can be guaranteed 2nd rate service there read more

Pretty much all around great place.You can tell that because the men's room is always clean. The waiter station is right outside of that and that is pretty tight too. Menu changes pretty regularly, I am not sure about corn week but whatever. The drink specials and beer options also get switched up pretty regularly, a sign things don't get stale or boring. Bar menu has a burger and a chicken sandwich or you can get a steak or filet. I prefer a rib eye but I always seem to miss it. I had some good ribs not to long ago though. The short bartender with the great hair, she loves to make the drink you want, no problem. Other places you get the eye roll. Sure, every place has its ups and downs but these guys seem to make it all come together. read more

Great food! Good service. Sometimes noise level gets way too loud! Not sure why my family and I always seem to get seated at the worst table in the restaurant which is right on the way to the bathroom and where the staff have to constantly walk by. Strange place we came after a day of apple picking nearby....they were weary of seating us when we came in because it was between lunch and dinner. The place was empty but they wanted to know if we had a reservation. They stalled ten minutes before we almost left from a lack of being seated and the girl claimed it was because she couldn't find the menus. Finally we got seated in the back corner and had minimal albeit pleasant service. The food was sub par...both atmosphere and food remind me of a glamorous diner. Also the music was god awful. Added to the overall strange vibe. Would not reccommend. read more

We live really close to the Gladstone Tavern, and come here every couple of months. I love the concept of farm to table, and their menu switches with some frequency. I also love how they take advantage of what is in season with their pumpkin, apple, and mardi gras menus. Last night we went (it happened to be Mardi Gras) around 6 with a party of 3. We were able to be seated without a wait, as there were a couple of tables open. The bar area was packed tight, without a seat to spare! They had a special menu for Mardi Gras with the standard foods of NOLA and suggested drinks to accompany them. I started with the Abita, which was nice and light and paired well with the rest of my meal. For an appetizer I had the popcorn shrimp, which was coated in cornmeal and had a nice crunch, which I love crunchy texture! It was not oily and came served over a pimento cheese sauce, which was spicy, but not over the top. It was also served with okra, which I tried, but do not like the slimy texture of okra. After a heavy appetizer, I went with the cauliflower Caesar salad for dinner. It was a nice size appetizer, with kale, capers and cauliflower, that is lightly dressed with toasts and a couple of slices of fresh parmesan cheese. It was delicious! I was saving room for dessert because I saw the caramel bourbon bread pudding, and it did not disappoint! It was creamy and decadent, with caramel, a brownie and vanilla ice cream. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and our server was very attentive and happy. Would recommend and will come back soon! read more

I have been going to Gladstone Tavern for the past 10 years and always loved it. Loved the seasonal menu and the food was always delicious. Tonight I ate at the Gladstone Tavern and was very disappointed. I ordered steak loin with horseradish mashed potatoes and creamed spinach with Cabernet sauce. Although the steak was tasty and well seasoned, the meat itself was tough and very chewy. For an appetizer I had the chips with guacamole. I was also disappointed because the chips were different than usual. They were not as tasty and they were much thicker than usual. For the price of the meal, I didn't think it was worth it. After seeing a high school show, we were desperately hungry. Arrived here shortly after 10pm on St. Patrick's Day. Lots of loud imbibers, live music, and no where to sit. The kid at the hostess stand didn't seem to know left from right, but when we spoke with a manager, he was kind and cool enough to let us sit upstairs, where we could order off the bar menu, even though that dining room was no longer really open. We felt a little bad for the staff, who probably weren't planning on having another table so late, but Nancy, our server, could not have been more accommodating. We each had a burger and shared the orange-carrot cake dessert. Everything was good. I might try this place again, if I found myself in the neighborhood. Just tried this place based on personal recommendations and we were extremely disappointed. We sat outside in the back patio area and received poor and inattentive service. Also, the portion sizes were extremely small for the prices that we paid. For example, a plate of chips and guacamole (served in half of an Avocado skin to provide a point of reference) was 9.50 and our bbq rib entree was 25 dollars for what amounted to a half rack of ribs. We had high hopes based on the reviews and the ambiance, but will not return again based on the service and food. read more

Ask for the bar menu because the dinner menu is overpriced and portions are small. The burgers and fries are ok, but the entrees and salads are small and nothing to rave about. Guacamole appetizer is good, but chicken wings were terrible. Small bony wings with no sauce and some powdery substance that tasted like shake n bake. Waiter raved about desserts, but neither cake was any good at all. Dry and tasteless, not even as good as something from the supermarket. Probably won't go back because despite the high price the food was very mediocre. read more

I've only eaten here once, but I'm dying to go back. Great atmosphere, more upscale but still casual. The menu has a good mix of inventive items and old classics. My husband swears their iron skillet chicken was the best chicken he'd ever eaten. The ingredients seem to be very fresh, and they've got great wines by the glass. Definitely not cheap, but not outrageous either. A favorite for the area for me! read more
