This is one of the more interesting places in Warren, and it's worth checking out. It does have a spacious area for dining with about 10 small tables, but we always get take-out. For the dishes here, you build your own, but it's pretty simple. You pick your protein (beef, chicken, lamb, roast pork, fish, shrimp) then decide if you want it on a bun, over rice, on a salad, or on a platter, and add any of a whole bunch of toppings like onions, pickles, beans, fried egg, pico, bacon, mushrooms, jalapeños and others. Or you can build tacos! The angus burger is vey good. The fries are pretty standard, but the onion rings are thick, crispy and flavorful. I always have too many. The slow roasted pork is very good, and I always get it over the white rice, which is tossed with olive oil and cilantro. The rice is very aromatic,I think it's basmati.I also like the salmon, but sometimes it can be a little dry. This is probably due to getting it to go and it steams more in the packaging. We also really like the tacos, having tried the shrimp version, AND the fish tacos, AND the chicken, AND the pork. My mother would get the shrimp tacos over and over again, my favorite is probably the pork. You can have it with tons of toppings, which we usually do. I also had the Cuban sandwich and had no complaints. Lots of choices and ways to customize, mix and match, and keep it new each time. The Angus beef burger with mushrooms was very tender and juicy (the cook of the beef we chose was medium), with the mushrooms so flavorful that best accompany the patty, and the buns were priory grilled that enhanced the overall taste. And how can you not have onion rings when you have great burger?! Which their deep fried rings did taste amazing. I had grilled salmon with southern styled salad. The salmon filet was perfectly grilled, with the hint of spicy salad dressing it was a very nice combo. I would order it one more time. When we arrived it was about 2pm on Friday. Not many dine in because technically it's not the lunch time. However, I realized many people came in to pick up their orders, throughout the entire time I was eating there. I can tell this place is very important to the neighborhood. Indoor has very clean and simple setting, although ordering steps could look complicated. Burgers can be very good, depending on the combinations - just make sure you pick your favorite home-run ingredients. When in doubt, lean into your classic favorites. Went here on a Monday with my wife. The storefront is kind of tucked in behind another building so you can't see it from the road. Basically you have to plan to go there, rather than wander in aimlessly. The restaurant was not crowded, so we had a seat and were able to place our orders right away. The restaurant is clean with plenty of room to move about. I had an angus burger baha style and a side of Spanish rice and my wife got the angus burger as protein on top of a salad. The server brought our orders promptly to our table and commented that he had never seen someone order a burger baha style. Frankly, the flavors blended very well, in my opinion. I never get it as much because I live in VA now, but whenever I'm home I make it a point to pick something up at some point. Everything is so good here and everything is customizable. For their burgers, you can customize what kind of bun and toppings you want. For fish you can customize whether you want it on top of rice or salad & then there's so many toppings you can add on top of it as well. This place used to be good but recently has severely disappointed. The staff is a revolving door of young kids that don't get properly trained and get orders wrong without fail every time. We typically are loloyal customers since it's local to the neighborhood and turn a blind eye to small errors, but we order at least twice a week for takeout and they always give us the wrong items, or don't include all ingredients we paid for. I have been to Turf' N Surf so many times and I've never had a bad experience! The staff is always friendly and the food is great quality! This is a fast casual style restaurant and they normally have indoor seating. (Due to covid they currently have outdoor seating and will bring your food out to your table wrapped in to go containers) Their menu is awesome! You are able to build your meal starting with a surf or turf item then adding it to a salad, bed of rice, or burger buns. Some of my favorite items on the menu are the fish platter tacos, salmon over brown rice, and their turkey burger with a side of sweet potato fries. I can't believe I haven't come by this place before! The amount of options and customizations is amazing. I counted maybe 12 different meat/seafood possibilities that can be turned into a burger, salad, or rice dish. I ordered a scallop (can be sautéed or fried) burger as a Swiss burger (with mushrooms) and it was absolutely fantastic. I wasn't sure how that combo would go but the cashier recommended it and it did not disappoint! She was also really helpful with deciding other options. You're handed a plastic number card that you can conveniently stick into the condiment holder on your table. Everything is brought to you and disposal afterwards is really easy. Indoor dining was not available due to covid 19 so we sat outside on their patio. I ordered the inside out burger w/bacon and cheddar on brioche w/lto. Remember when I said there's never a bad time for a burger? I am still standing by that statement even when the temperature is pushing triple digits. It was tasty and fresh, albeit a bit messy but will surely satisfy any burger crave one can have. The food is always good. They have something for everyone if you are dieting, looking for a great burger, or at vegan. I have had great bacon cheddar burgers, great salmon, blackened or broiled over different salads when watching and great fries and onion rings when not. It is a little confusing because you have to pick your salad, your protein, or of you want it over rice, etc. or you can order their signature burgers etc. once you get used to how it works. They also order cheese and bacon, etc in the burger (inside out) so be specific. Only problem is our order is almost always wrong. We tend to order for groups 7-10 people, and there is always something wrong g or missing. But the food is really great and can be healthy if you need or want, so we've just gotten used to the mistakes, missing sauces, missing condiments or completely wrong entres. The ultimate customizable burger. Seems a little expensive at first when you look at the menu but it is well worth it when you see the size of the burger. The portion size of an order of sweet potato fries is very generous and is served with honey mustard sauce (highly recommend). Found this awesome little spot that serves the best chilli and Cuban sandwich! The chilli had a nice balance between sweet and spicy. The Cuban sandwich contained slow roasted pork, fried Virginia ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, in a Brioche bun. Both items were super delicious! They have a few tables for indoor dining. Service was good and fast, and the place was pretty clean. Next time I visit here, I would love to try their Salmon Burger, and several other items. Everything on their menu looks good! Stopped by for the first time Saturday night to get a quick bite for dinner. We both had one of their inside out burgers the bacon blue cooked medium rare. I went with lettuce, tomato, and red onions for the toppings and it was delicious and juicy cooked perfectly and a great value for $6.85 we also got sides of sweet potato fries and onion rings. These onion rings were perfect... crisp and delicious with a side of BBQ ranch dipping sauce. The fries were great too with a side of honey mustard. Really big portions on the sides so we took home some leftovers. Really friendly employees too and we can't wait to return and try some of their other menu items that looked delicious... Not liking this place personally. For specialty restaurant, I would expect the seafood and meat are fresh (more so than diner or fast food place), but I feel like the way they prepare them is not at best and sometimes, wasted such good quality of meat/ seafood. Actually, the quality came out reminded me of cafeteria burgers. I been to similar places like this where the chefs can prepare each order per order or request of the customer. BEST BURGER IN NJ - they use the freshest and highest quality ingredients and they are cooked to perfection. I had a trading class in somerset. So I looked in my bookmarks and noticed turf and surf grill wasn't too far away. I walk into this joint and the aroma hits u. That nice working grill scent. I was definitely overwhelmed by the menu l, not in a bad way. There were many options to choose from. So the guy told me. Pick ur protein then pick ur vehicle (bun, salad or rice). I went with the hibenero jack beef burger on a brioche bun with mushroom and Swiss my coworker picked the turkey Classic. We ordered sweet potato fries and onion rings to share. The food came out pretty quick and the sides were first and were huge portions. The freshly beer battered onion rings were so crunchy and delicious. The sweet potato fries were also a nice treat crispy on the outside with a nice soft inside. Then the burgers came out shortly after. The look of both burgers were something from a commercial where the burger is always perfect. Biting into my burger was such a culinary adventure. From outside to in. First u bite through the soft lightly toasted brioche bun, then the sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss, finally the perfectly cooked ,med rare hibenero and jack infused beef burger. And there was a nice char taste to the burger which was very pleasing. It was definitely one of the best burger experiences of my life. Traveling around I have come to find so many good places that when I go back to my home turf there are only an unfortunate few places that can rate as high. Turf 'N Surf might finally be another long term addition to the go to places in this area. Love the concept! Step one -- Turf (Beef, Chicken, Turkey, Veggie, or Lamb -- did I see lamb? Heck yeah!) or Surf (Salmon, Tilapia, Shrimp, Scallops). Step two -- on a bun (various choices), on a salad (various choices), on rice (various choices, but the Spanish rice is AMAZING) Then there are extras and even a kids menu. So, for a small place and menu the buildout of your desire is really a mix of endless possibilities. The service is cheerful and helpful. On the down side they just opened and as of this date have not even had a 'grand opening' as they are still working out bugs which I think is a wonderfully smart move. If I saw correctly on my way out they need to move their B up to an A and the desire to make a better display of the raw food in front would help the customers at the counter when placing an order. At present they give out numbers after you order. Seems like an extra step that can be replaced but just keeping a receipt instead (like Five Guys). Bottom line so far, so good -- really good. If they can work out the bugs, keep the cheerful service, and, most importantly -- keep the freshness of the place and the food -- this one is going to be a home run. Sounds simple but so many places seem to give into entropy so quickly I truly hope they beat the odds with this one! A friend mentioned this place to me and I gave it a try. There are a ton of options from sandwiches to fish on rice. I called my order in to go and the person on the phone was very friendly. She patiently went through all of the options and answered all of my questions. I went with the salmon on white rice with sauteed mushrooms and onions. The fish was fresh and well seasoned and the vegetables conplemented the dish well. I ordered fries that were also good. The woman who prepared my order forgot them in the bag but called me to apologize for her error. Really good customer service. In addition to a drink the meal came to about $22. Turf' N Surf is, hands down, the best burger joint in Warren, and possibly in all of Somerset County!!!!!!!!!! . They also have the most nutritious, fresh and delicious salads, including my personal favorites, the Shrimp Caesar Salad and the Garden Salad with Salmon. We have a family of 4, with two young kids (3 and 7 year old girls) who love all of their kids menu options. It has gotten to the point where every single weekend, we order from here at least once .
