Fantastic dinner at sage leaf. I have been going here for years, and decided to take my girlfriend out for her birthday. Cocktails were delicious, our favorite food items were the pork belly, which was complimented nicely with purple slaw, the chicken thighs, with a sauce and balsamic glaze you could put on anything, and the braised short rib, that could've been more fall apart, but still fantastic flavor and the potato puree was the perfect side. I also wanted to give a special shoutout to our waiter, Andres, who made this night extra special. Not only was it my girlfriend's birthday, but this was the night I asked her to officially be my girlfriend (she said yes!) with the help of Andres and the rest of the staff, it was the perfect evening and I can't thank them enough. read more

I came here with my parents who live about a half hour away. My stepmom was able to secure a 5pm dinner slot inside. It fills up pretty fast. Our server Manuel was friendly and efficient. Looking to beat the heat in reno so hopped over the hill for lunch at this place. I had seen it yelped before but just never had time to stop. I got there about 1pm which is cutting it close as it closes at 2 for dinner switchover at 5. but they were still bustling and tables were 3/4 full. Parking was easy although the lot is shared by many stores so i have seen it full at other times. Yes i know soup is an odd pairing with a burger but i really wanted to try it. And so glad i did! It was fantastic. Great depth of flavor. The burger was grilled to a medium temp which i prefer, and i didn't even have to specify that. Great flavor in the patty and the fried egg in top added to it once the yolk was broken and oozed down the side. I asked for ketchup on the side because it comes with an aioli on the bun but i really didn't need it. The aioli was delicious. Service was spot on with good recommendations. Only nitpik was that $5 for a can of coke that is not refillable is a bit expensive when i can get coke for a buck all day elsewhere. read more

It is restaurant week in Incline and I saw that Sage Leaf had a special meal. The main entree was a Spaghetti Bolognese which is always my favorite since my Italian grandma made it for me. I entered and sat at the bar because the place was busy and it was a 20 minute wait. I ordered the special. The appetizer was Seared Scallops with a coconut cream polenta. The scallops were done right seared on both sides and the polenta was creamy and full of flavor. Then came the Spaghetti Bolognese which I was looking forward to. It looked appealing but once I tried it the flavor was not what I expected. It was a meat sauce but not a traditional bolognese. It had a different flavor with no tomatoes I think it was mainly wine based. Unfortunately I was expecting a traditional bolognese and it threw me off. And I asked for bread and they didn't have any. I took the dessert home a yellow cake with cream and a raspberry sauce. It was very good. The main thing I'm disappointed with is the Spaghetti Bolognese being not a traditional bolognese. I'm super bummed to report that we had a less than stellar experience last night at Sage Leaf. I reserved a table for 6pp for our last night with my parents in Tahoe. My husband and I are locals and have enjoyed Sage Leaf for breakfast in the past, but have never tried dinner. Our server was VERY nice but seemed confused the whole evening. He brought my Mom (2) gin and tonics back to back when she only ordered one, asked me what I wanted to drink after I had ordered a glass of wine 30 seconds earlier, and forgot to enter our burrata app, which never came. The biscuits (which we"ve had before and were amazing in the past) were room temp, overcooked, and dry. The butter didn't even melt on top because they weren't hot. My husband's duck pasta was pretty flavorless and floating in oil. I split their locally acclaimed burger with my parents, and while we ordered it medium, it was well done to well plus, burned and dry. Yuck. Total bummer for $250, with an included 20% tip tacked on for a party of 6. At least the fries and salmon were good, and they turned down the super windy AC when we asked the second time. Sigh. Finally made it to Sage Leaf, just in time for the Reno location to open closer to home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved the cozy vibes here. I wasn't expecting it to be set within a mixed business development but it def worked. The main restaurant was dark and a bit moody, but lively and hopping during this early spring season we're experiencing. The lobby of the building offers additional seating and a bit less volume.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The night I visited they had a lovely guitar player with the most dulcet vocals. Our table was nearby and it was sweet to see how she engaged with the patrons, but especially the kids dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food wise we shared a bunch of the entrees including the chicken thighs. I loved how these were cooked but I really wanted more veg with my meal. The potatoes were crispy and the sun dried tomatoes a nice touch, but I found the dish pretty heavy and found myself pacing through it, leaving a thigh and plenty potatoes for the next day. Services was 100% solid. The staff knows the menu so well and really helped with defined recs. Oh ya. Those duck fat fries... get em! The truffle aioli is crazy good too. I will say they do not give you enough of it to enjoy with the order of fries. We asked for additional and the runner told us it came at an extra cost and we said ok, but our server said he would just bring it, but we did indeed have a $2 charge on our bill. Cocktails were also solid, I had a spicy tequila drink that was great with the food. All in all, solid, I was def expecting a more diverse menu but I am looking forward to a return and seeing what else they have to offer. read more

Super cute spot I was greeted by Omar. He was so kind and sat us wherever I wanted to be seated. I don't quite remember who was who but they both were so kind and served me Peyton and crystalline. I love the fact that my server also know how to bartend. I think it was like her fifth day there and she was so attentive. We had 2 orders of the duck fat fries and while good had just too much salt to the point we had wipe down each fry. Looking back should have had them do them over. Avoid this tourist trap! Tastes like frozen food at premium prices. I have no idea how this place has a 4.3-star rating. I came here based on the reviews, and it was a massive disappointment. The food was terrible. The $30 pasta tasted awful--honestly, grocery store frozen pasta is much better. We also ordered the steak for my kids. The waiter asked if we wanted it split, which I agreed to, only to find a hidden $6 "split fee" tacked onto the bill at the end. To make matters worse, the fries tasted like they were straight out of a freezer bag and microwaved. On top of the bad food, there was absolutely no service. We waited a long time just to order, and then the staff completely ignored us. The whole experience feels like a trap. Stay away! read more

My sister is visiting and wanted to go up to Tahoe so we thought we'd grab some girlfriends and do brunch. We had eaten at this restaurant several years prior a couple times but hadn't been back since. Good experiences in the past so I suggested we come here. Made reservations via the website for next day unsure if they are needed when we got there there were two other couples eating. My sis and I took the bench seating and my friends had chairs which they noted were not the most comfortable. Javier was a good server greeted us bringing us drinks I had a hot chocolate which was great, of note they don't have oat milk. They also serve only basic drip coffee no lattes. There's a wide range of flavors for mimosas but we chose mango and we all liked them. Their menu looks delicious. Three of us however chose avocado toast, which itself is fairly affordable. It comes with radishes and balsamic and a couple other toppings that I pass on, adding an egg was 3.50 ouch and adding "candied bacon" was 4.50$ eeek, our fourth lady got the French toast. Javier asked me if Olive oil was okay which I appreciated and agreed it was; however upon eating my eggs and toast it was doused in olive oil like way too much and threw the taste off. I still liked my toast and eggs but the eggs and bacon came on the side not on top of toast which I guess I sort of expected and you can always make it that way yourself. I have to say, this was not bacon. This was just porky belly which is not in the least bit appealing to any of us. So that was definitely misleading on the menu and I think it needs to be changed especially for that price. Overall a decent experience and would consider returning when in the area. This place is one of the most popular brunches in the area so if you want a good table on a weekend, definitely make reservations. We did not make reservations so luckily there was plenty of room at the bar. The bartender takes his job seriously, he's quick with the fancy drinks too. Food is delicious and wholesome. This is our third time to Sage Leaf. When we were here last year, we came twice because it was so good. Couldn't wait to come back this time. This is one of the best places you can go if you are vegan or just plant-based consumer of some sort because they have clearly marked vegetarian items for you there. Other than that vegetarians are well taken care of. The fried hash with chorizo is probably the best food item I have had in North Lake Tahoe since I've been renting in the area. The bartender was also our food server, and we of course, indulged in some of their craft cocktails. Those are not to be missed if you can afford to have one as they're not cheap. The one disappointment for me was that their storied Bloody Mary could not be made vegetarian. The mixture is premade and It uses Worsteshire sauce which has anchovies in it! Yuck! The venue is easy to miss as you drive by, but there's actually plenty of parking in the free garage just behind them. Be careful cause the uphill walk can be icy. !! read more

We've been coming to Sage Leaf since it opened. Note that the space is small, but you can sit at the bar and there are some tables in the atrium next to the Korean chicken wings shop. In the warmer months, there are outside tables, too, but they are not dog friendly. Our first experience ever was brunch at the bar. Everything was terrific, from the service to the thick bacon. More recently, just before the holidays, we found the vegan soup that came with the pastrami sandwich was full of stringy leek pieces and didn't taste quite right. The sandwich's ratio of bread to fillings was off, and the coffee wasn't hot. The fries were the hit of the day, but the dipping sauce was much too watered down. So when a friend suggested we meet there for lunch today, I had my reservations. Luckily, things have improved over the last few months. My friend ordered the pastrami sandwich on a gluten-free bun (still way too much bread) but subbed out the potato-leek soup for a side salad instead. I started with the gin pear drink and saw a nearby table had ordered the chicken bowl, so on our server's recommendation, I tried that. Compliments to the chef! This "bowl" has a rice base with spinach, tomato, garbanzo beans, some grilled chicken with great flavor, all topped with avocado mash and some delicious sauces. Definitely count that as a win! They close at 2 p.m., but we never felt rushed despite leaving about 10 minutes before closing. They also serve breakfast/brunch with the lunch menu, so if you're craving eggs, that's an option even in the afternoon. read more

After a beautiful bike ride on the Tahoe East Trail we were famished. Lucky for us, Sage Leaf was located right next to Vista Trail Bikes. We were seated at a table on the shaded patio, perfect for the summer weather. Service was very good as the entire waitstaff took care of all our needs. The food was great, brunch and lunch were available as well as a nice cocktail selection. The house made sage and cheddar biscuits were fluffy inside with a nice toasty finish on the outside, served with smoked Gouda gravy. The two covered biscuits were accompanied by two sunny side eggs and two asparagus spears with balsamic glaze. We all thought that the asparagus seemed a bit odd with the dish but ultimately the chef knew what he was doing. Give Sage Leaf a try, it will not disappoint. Check your receipt, as when we got home we realized we were overcharged. read more

My wife and daughter and I came to have breakfast our first breakfast in Lake Tahoe. I absolutely cannot believe that this place has 4 1/2 stars. What the hell is wrong with you people for misleading us. We ordered two plates of eggs over easy one with home fries one with hashbrowns. My eggs came out overcooked her eggs came out undercooked and dripping with oil. Also, my home fries were completely burnt and inedible. But according to our server " that's what they're supposed to look like". The final nail in the coffin was when we got the bill and saw that they charge us $10 for two small pours of drip coffee. That just added an insult to injury. The coffee wasn't even good. Tasted like Folgers. On top of that, they do not serve pancakes here which I was hoping would rescue the meal so that my daughter could actually eat something for breakfast because the eggs were not an option for her after how they were prepared. But of course this is a breakfast place that does not serve pancakes. Why am I not surprised? " we have a special style of breakfast." They told me. Oh it's special all right! Especially bad! I've had both a breakfast and dinner here and both were great experiences! My most recent one was breakfast and it was amazing. The service is good and friendly (it wasn't totally quick, but we had a larger group so no worries there). We all sat out on the patio and it was gorgeous out there in the late morning, a great overall vibe. It feels fresh and clean inside and the food gives that vibe as well. The mountain breakfast was delicious - sausage was perfect, the cheesy hash-browns were as good as they sound and the biscuit was homemade and SO good! We ordered a French toast for the table so we could all try and we weren't let down, amazing as well! This restaurant is next to the Korean chicken wing spot. It was not really a wine bar. They have a lot of wines on the menu but there's no wine flights here. The menu was short and has mainly brunch food. The side dishes such as the candy bacons were chunky and delicious. It was more like fried pork, the duck fat fries were also delicious. The burger was Ok, the corn beef hash was Ok as well, The whole dish was begging for some spices or seasoning. The Bloody Mary was a little water down and bland tasting.
