Bartenders are great. Too bad Ellison is tearing it down for next 2-3 years, a real shame. He is ruining our town...

I'll say right off, I'm giving them 4-stars since I had time to just grab one drink and a snack. I'm sure when I come back and can hang out for longer, the next review will easily bump up to the 5-star level. Firstly, this is a cool hole in the wall, very nice ambiance, and set back in a way that makes it feel a bit like a speakeasy. The decor is very stylish and atmospheric, with plenty of comfy chairs and spaces at the bar, and the staff were quite friendly. And while I'm not the biggest fan of these in here, the bar has many countertop video poker machines, should you be inclined to play. This is a full bar, so they have plenty of selections for wine, beer, and spirits. But the main attraction are their house cocktails. Only had time to try one on this visit, but that Saffron Sazerac was very interesting indeed, and definitely makes me want to swing by and try more of their menu. And should you need something to snack on, they also have a small menu of bar bites, which is just enough to hit the spot. And as for prices, I found them pretty darn reasonable, especially given this is Tahoe, we're talking about. So yeah, all said, I have been fairly impressed with Gaviota. Definitely going to keep them on my short list of drinking spots on North Shore, and I think anyone looking for a classy beverage will love it here too. Hope to swing by again soon.

The servers were kind and attentive, if a bit shy, but the real standout was the man behind the bar and, I assume, the menu. He was incredibly friendly, took the time to visit each table, and genuinely seemed excited to hear how everyone was enjoying their food and drinks. You can tell he has a real passion for what he does, and that energy adds so much to the experience. I'm blanking on the name of the cocktail I ordered, but it was a mix of a martini and a Negroni, which sounded unusual at first and ended up being absolutely delicious. On the food side, everything we ordered was bang on. The bread with rich tomato sauce was comforting and full of flavor, the chorizo sausages were spicy and savory, the endive salad was bright and acidic, and the milanesa was incredibly tender with a deep earthy flavor and paired with an arugula salad to balance things out. Definitely a place I'll be going back to again and again any time I'm in the area and a strong recommendation for the cocktails, the food, the ambience, but especially the people!

They advertise that they take seasonal ingredients and usually prepare them over a charcoal fire. Their menu presentation is also creative, as they type it out in a receipt format. We came as a large group and ordered their entire menu. It was interesting to see the dishes they came up with. Some were pretty good - such as the sausages, but some were misses or did not really suit our palate. Either way, we had a great time. I would say overall, the food would be a 4/5, but the staff was very friendly and the restaurant had a great atmosphere.

Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and she did a great job walking us through the day's specials as well as some of her favorite picks. I started with the In Crowd cocktail and really enjoyed it. The coconut, basil, and bitters balanced beautifully with the gin, making for a super refreshing drink that felt especially perfect for spring or summer weather. We followed our server's advice and ordered four items, two larger plates and two starters, and everything was delicious. Here's the breakdown: Trout Dip: Fantastic smoky, fishy flavor in all the right ways, served with crostinis. The only small nitpick was that the crostinis were overdone for my taste and shattered loudly when bitten into. Grilled Prawns: Super meaty and seasoned and sauced perfectly, with a bed of slaw that balanced the dish nicely. Scallops: Seared to perfection and in an addicting red Thai curry sauce. I was intrigued by the combo of kimchi, grits, and curry and have to say that it somehow blends amazingly well. Lamb Chops: Cooked to a perfect medium rare, expertly seasoned, with little gaminess and a cooling yogurt sauce that really brought the dish together. All in all, it was a fantastic meal and easy to see why this place is such a favorite among both locals and tourists. The food, the drinks, and the service all come together to make this a great option for any occasion from a casual night out (us) to celebrating something memorable like a graduation (several were happening while we were there).

We were going to make a reservation but a credit card was required - that felt excessive for a reservation on a Wednesday night so we risked it and just showed up. We were early (5:30) so we got seated right away. We got a variety of appetizers after my mocktails (very gingery, yum!). The ribs had a great sauce but were overcooked a bit. The burrata was nice but crostini was so hard I thought it might tear up my mouth. Gnuddi was tasty but very oily. Great ambience and perfect for a wine drinker - extensive list. We would bring family or friends there for a night classy night out, but it wasn't overwhelmingly amazing to us.

Cocktails were delicious, our favorite food items were the pork belly, which was complimented nicely with purple slaw, the chicken thighs, with a sauce and balsamic glaze you could put on anything, and the braised short rib, that could've been more fall apart, but still fantastic flavor and the potato puree was the perfect side. I also wanted to give a special shoutout to our waiter, Andres, who made this night extra special. Not only was it my girlfriend's birthday, but this was the night I asked her to officially be my girlfriend (she said yes!) with the help of Andres and the rest of the staff, it was the perfect evening and I can't thank them enough.

I can't remember the name of the mocktail- fruit juices and a ginger beer. It was also quite delightful.
