A very cute chocolate shop that apparently won best candy award. Unfortunately no samples so you just gotta pick what you want with confidence. They had Easter egg death by chocolate (which they said was very popular) for $8 and BOGO sale. They were definitely veryyy heavy and very chocolatey it didn't disappoint! Just wish there was more dimensions to it than just pure fudgey chocolate since it was advertised as layers of this and that but still solid. Also got these cute orange mints ~$8 but unfortunately had no orange or even mint flavor. I tried all the butter crunch flavors with my favorite being the maple (perfection!!), dark chocolate (heavenly!), and not really liking the milk chocolate since it was too sweet and too thick of a crunch center andunproportional. Tried 1 of each and came out to ~$3. Overall definitely a cute shop and worth trying out! Came on a cold day when the town was all closed so this shop was definitely a highlight. read more

Stopped in for ice cream and we were rewarded with an amazing corn ice cream! Yes, it was so good, and we've had good corn ice cream before (New York's Chinatown Ice Cream Factory in the 80's and Lares Heladeria in PR) and this is one of the best. Had the blood orange Gelato too and also loved that. Nephew loves the chocolates and their butter toasted peanuts (I liked those too). Definitely a great sweet tooth stop. read more

These guys are clearly experts in the business. My family and I signed up for their chocolate making class as a group activity on my brother's birthday trip. It was great for the whole crew, the kids and the kids at heart. Denise made my family feel welcome in her family's shop, teaching us step by step about the process of how they make chocolate. The variety of chocolates that they have are delectable and we even got to taste three distinct options in the class. Of course we purchased many of the available sweets and treats on our way out too. 10/10 and will be coming back to when their beverage making class is up and running in the spring! read more

My boyfriends little sister kept telling me to visit this chocolate shop because I am OBSESSED with moose (and love chocolate). We finally made our way over here and I loved every second of it. The chocolate is pretty reasonably priced and they have a lot of moose themed candy and stuffed animals. I got a little moose chocolate on a stick and a cup of chocolate gelato with maple gelato (not pictured). The gelato was supposed to be for my boyfriend and I to share but I may or may not have eaten the majority of it - it was too good. I can't wait to come back to Bennington and visit this shop again. The Village Chocolate Shoppe located in Downtown Bennington is a definitely a chocoholic's paradise to satisfy the serious sweet tooth. This is the perfect place to pick up some sweet gifts for special occasions especially for Valentine's Day, Easter, and Christmas. The candies are made on premises in the store. This chocolate store is packed with a great selection and variety (hundreds) of homemade chocolates, truffles, fresh fudge (over 30 kinds), candy bars, lollipops, molded chocolates, small candies, nuts, gift boxes, baskets, and unique dipped chocolate delights. Most chocolates are milk or dark chocolate. Sugar free chocolate and candies is also available here. Some of the mouthwatering treats offered here include chocolate dipped strawberries, cherry cordials (with rum), chocolate covered s'mores, chocolate dipped Oreos, death by chocolate bars, and sincakes. There's even a chocolate moose in the store. The prices here are fair. Chocolates are $14.95/lb, truffles are $16.95/lb and small bags of chocolate dipped raisins & nuts are 2 for $5. Some treats are sold individually. Since The Village Chocolate Shoppe is along my route between NY and NH, I made a pitstop here recently to pick up a few treats to satisfy MY sweet tooth. I picked up small bags of chocolate dipped raisins and peanuts, chocolate covered pretzels, s'mores bars, a chocolate dipped Oreo, and a sincake, totaling just under $15, not bad! All of the chocolate treats were very delightful to eat. Having good chocolate treats and strong coffee at work keeps me pretty content and busy. The sincake was very interesting which was like having a Snickers and 3 Musketeers, all in the same treat. The chocolate covered s'mores square had graham cracker and a thick layer of light soft marshmallow. This campfire treat was definitely my favorite! I can't wait to stop in here again very soon. Walked in here with 3 kids one afternoon during a local car show. I can't speak to the chocolate as the kids all chose to have gelato or lollipops. But the gelato was excellent as was the large rainbow lollipop. Huge selection and friendly staff. We'll be back. read more

I went in today for Valentine's day gifts. While I was in the shop I was looking at the options of chocolate and the employee kept asking me about 6 times in less than 2 minutes if I was ready with my choices. Then once I told her my choices she proceeded to put the wrong product in the box and got a little snarky with me when I asked her if that was the correct chocolate. Which completely flipped my Customer Experience. Once I got to checkout, a lady walked in with her service dog. Which it clearly was because there was a tag on it. And the employee argued with the customer about it. And once she came back over to the register to ring me out (after me waiting about 5 minutes) she talked poorly about the customer with the service dog to another employee, in front of me. Shame on her for discriminating the poor aged lady. And to make her a joke in front of other customers. Then once she finally did her job, she charged me wrong. She charged me for 5 pounds of fudge when I got 2. As it is about a $42 difference, I asked her if that was the correct price. She said no, also in a snarky way because she didn't like the fact I corrected her huge mistake. Then she charged me for a bag. Which is what it is. Then I paid. And she didn't even bag my items. or give me my bag. I had to remind her that she charged me for a bag. Then she rudely dropped the bag onto the counter and said "Take your bag and items and leave." Wow! That's extremely rude! Somebody was having a bad day apparently. But if you are working in customer service, especially in a small town local business, you need to have some respect for the customers. You guys may be linked to the failure of this town. Tourists do not want to come back to an area where the merchants and people are trashy. I am extremely disappointed, and will not be returning. I will gladly go down the road to Bringing You Vermont located on Main St instead for candy needs. Oops. I forgot, also: The man dipping strawberries had no gloves and proceeded to touch his nose in between drippings, and they put fudge onto the counter which is shared with other products that are not sterile. I would not recommend this place to anybody, unless you are purchasing a gift for your enemy, or looking for a place to go just to be treated poorly. Do better. read more

I've been a customer of the Village Chocolate Shoppe in Bennington since I was young. I love the varieties of chocolates, the old fashioned candy area (mmm spearmint leaves and spice drops!), and then the more fancy chocolate confections behind the glass case. The absolute quantity and varieties of candies and confections (not just chocolate!) in the Shoppe is incredible! Much of the candy is reasonably priced, with a few exceptions here and there that are a little on the pricey side. I appreciate that much of the candy is made by the Shoppe as well! I always like to bring friends to the Shoppe if they haven't visited Bennington before; and it's a necessity for holiday indulgences! The shop attendants have always been kind, helpful, and patient; and the shop is always clean and smells amazing. Stop in and check it out! This place is awesome. I stop every time I'm in Bennington, which is pretty much weekly. Chocolate everything- fudge, truffles, candies, games, mugs, etc along with a huge assortment of other candy. I especially love the milk chocolate sea salt caramel bars and the 2 for $5 section with bags of various chocolate candies that you can mix and match to try even more types. AND the chocolates are made right there on site, so they're fresh. In the winter I often get their delicious hot chocolate, too. I don't buy chocolate anywhere else-- life is too short to eat bad chocolate! read more

I'm not actually suppose to eat conventional chocolate because it has soy lecithin (and my belly doesn't like soy) but I still indulge. We're partial to Krauses chocolate in Albany, where we usually get pb cups and orange cremes. Comparatively this place is just, ok. Not the best chocolate you've ever had or anything. It's good, just not the best, and maybe slightly overpriced. We only visit Bennington once a year in the winter so we haven't tried the gelato. Wish we could though! read more

Excellent chocolate! The peppermint patties and pecan snappers are the best! The filling on the peppermint patties is creamy and not too minty. Their chocolates are great as gifts. Unfriendly staff. No smiles. Last time I was there, I spent over $40 on chocolates for gifts. I noticed the ribbon behind the counter, and asked for a bow on the box. The girl who was helping me asked the manager(?) who told her not to use the ribbon - just to put a gold elastic around the box. It did not look nice. They are a little pricey. Most chocolates are $14.95/lb. The large peppermint patties are basically $2 each. They sure are delicious, though.. They also serve ice cream. And they sell chocolate-themed gifts (i.e. t-shirts, mugs). read more

Exactly what we hoped for when we drove into Bennington on our way home to New York from New Hampshire and wanted a chilled dessert, the gelato hit the spot perfectly; I did not choose and thus combined one scoop of Blood Orange and one of Dark Chocolate. I stop in before every holiday to get treats for my family as well as special gifts for my son's teachers, family friends, etc. (And yes, we also just pop in when we're in downtown Bennington, since you can buy individual candies or even a bag of "fudge ends," which are every bit as fresh and delicious as the fudge sold by the pound, but cost a lot less.) Amazing chocolate, love the handsome gentleman that makes it. I have given the moose to everyone we know, in all the New England states. I never spend less than $80 there at a time. Having said that, doesn't a $100 sale warrant more than one bag after telling them that they were for gifts? Other than the two sisters, the customer service is non existent. You have to ask for a stretchy bow on a $23 box of chocolates, as if it's crazy to ask for that. We will continue to bless everyone with this wonderful chocolate, but come on. The Village Chocolate Shoppe and I have been doing business for years! My Dad is confined to a nursing facility (CLR). Since I live 500 miles away, I don't get to see him as often as I would like. Since he is 93 years old, and doesn't need much anymore, but still loves chocolate, we stop in to get him sin cakes and other scrumptious things when we visit. However, we can't be there for all special occasions, and rely on calling the Shoppe to deliver a great box of his favorites. I can just call them, they know that he cannot have anything with nuts, but loves fudge, chocolate ANYTHING, and peanut butter. They fix him a specially-wrapped box that he just LOVES, and deliver it to him with a card full of our special wishes. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is that I can rely on them to do such a fantastic job! Keep up the great work! read more

I have been shopping at the Village Chocolate Shoppe for holiday candy for years now, and must say that they don't sell hot fudge Sundaes! Mark T has obviously reviewed the wrong store. The chocolates that they sell at the Village Chocolate Shoppe -- truffles, chocolate covered cherries, and other goodies -- are made in the shop. There is also 'penny candies' and other other choices of sweets. A great place for holiday chocolates. read more
