So this place really does have a pretty great inventory, but I was pretty blown away at how crappy the service was. Someone else mentioned in their review feeling like you're announcing to your neighbors that you're a sexual predator...and I think they're dead on. I approached the counter a couple of weekends ago to see if I could take a look at the a new Canon body, and the guy behind the counter acted like I was absolutely ruining his day. I think the worst part about deciding to ask to check out the new camera was that this man could not answer any of my questions. He had to drag somebody else in to answer for every single inquiry I had, so the process was painful and took way too long. In fact, some of the best help I got was from a customer who had just bought the body I was looking at and was actually familiar with it. So, thank you, random lady who actually knew what she was talking about. :) I don't know. It wasn't a terribly positive experience coming in here. Looking for an alternative store, but if all else fails, guess I'll begrudgingly head back to Glazer's. read more

Interesting place, but I failed their secret handshake test. No one wanted to talk to me to sell me a few grand worth of stuff. Once I waited around for like 10 minutes until someone gave me some attention, it was worth the wait. They were able to answer most of my stupid questions satisfactorily. It wasn't enough to just go here and talk to them though. I had to go home and read more comparative gear reviews and then ended up ordering everything online. I frequently am forced to rent from Glazers as they are pretty much the only option. This is what you get when you essentially have a mini monopoly. Assholey service to the max. Alright, I'm updating my review based on how Glazer's Camera handled my complaint. I'm impressed that they followed up and I figure I'll give them another shot. -------------------- Believe me, I want to like Glazer's Camera. I really want to like them. I am a firm believer in supporting small, local businesses for many different reasons and, as a photographer, supporting a photography store is high on my list. However, today I am throwing in the towel with these guys. Every single experience I have had at Glazer's Camera has been poor. When I was first starting out in photography, I went to Gazer's to buy my first DSLR. The sales person was so stuck up and arrogant that every question I asked was met with sighs like, "I can't believe I have to explain this to you." Whatever. I can't hold the whole store responsible for one bad sales rep. I went in several more times and wasn't thrilled with the service but it wasn't terrible enough to really mention. Today, however, I went in with my daughter to get a quote on selling a lens. We first had to wait in a line at the front (about 10 minutes) for the guy behind the counter to tell me that we needed to speak to a buyer and that he would get one for me. 20 minutes of waiting later (and trying to entertain my 8 year old) I was approached and asked if I was being helped. I said not yet and explained that I wanted a quote on my lens. The guy said that I needed to speak to a buyer (yep - I knew that) and that he would find one for me. 20 more minutes of waiting and watching everyone around me getting help, I gave up and left. To be fair, the crew today was very kind (for the most part), they were just busy I guess. Poor management? They told me that half of their crew was at a trade show downtown. I was also at that show and it had ended two hours earlier. Regardless, they clearly did not have a plan for covering their missing crew members. I can't afford to wait almost an hour to get a quote on a lens. I'm done with this company which is a bummer since I really do want to like them. read more

You don't go to Glazer's because you want the best price (for that, you're going to shop online at a place like BHPhotoVideo.com). You go to Glazer's because you value exceptional service from a non-pushy (non-commission) sales staff that has more than just book knowledge about their products. Glazer's will bring out the product you are interested in, alongside a few similar options, let you play with the devices, provide real-world advice and remain patient while you take the time necessary to make a purchase decision. In addition, by comparison to other local stores, Glazer's has by far the most extensive selection. I find it difficult to justify paying the premiums needed to support the overhead of local retail establishments. The value provided by these organizations doesn't outweigh the cost of tax and the additional product costs (usually 10-20% higher). At Glazer's, though, I've never had any doubt about the value provided. That said, as to be expected at any camera store, there are a couple arrogant pricks that work here; if you get one of these just ask them kindly to fuck off and move onto the next one. Perhaps next time I'm there I'll take photos of the nice sales people so other people don't have to waste time with the assholes. read more

Glazer's is supposedly "the place to go" for camera gear in Seattle area but my experiences differ and I would recommend a friend against going there. In the process of deciding upon and purchasing a prosumer camera the sales experience felt hurried. While happy with the camera, I've come to discover things about the camera as informed by the salesperson that are flat out wrong or inaccurate. A significant selling point of buying from Glazers and the camera I ultimately chose (Sony A99) was the large availability of rental lenses -- as informed by salesperson. Only when I later called to rent a lens the first thing informed by the rental department was very low availability of Sony mount lenses, stating Sony is not a long established brand. In another incident I called my camera salesperson about availability of LED light kits. Again, I felt rushed and he encouraged me to visit the store because they have many LED lights available in stock. He referred me to their lighting person. I made the trip over from Eastside only to find they had very few models available, none of which worked for me (a very low-end, cheap consumer model and a couple very high-end / too large models). I ended-up going to Talls in Bellevue and they had exactly what I was looking for. Annoyed because Talls is much closer to me, I called Glazers and asked for the manager to describe my experience but got only voicemail. I left a message but Glazers has yet to call me back. (It's been a couple months now as I write this so safe to assume I'll never hear back.) It's fascinating to me that Talls -- a mall camera store -- has consistently given me far better service and information than the highly rated Glazers. It makes me wonder if Glazers is simply 'the cool' place to go among professionals and serious amateurs. Such associations are unimportant to me and I'd rather give my business to businesses that take the time to help me make well informed decisions, and that value my time and business. I come here for the film, the prices are adequate and selection is great... BUT, service is less than standard. I've worked in retail for years and its frustrating to KNOW that being courteous is not really that difficult of a task when working with customers and if it is then you shouldn't be working at the front desk of a retail store. my complaints: -customer service was impatient with the time it took me to select the film I wanted from a catalog book. - They then brought out someone else's film to me which I was a little confused with but figured they knew what they were doing - I proceeded to pay for the wrong items when they realized the screw up (maybe take down customers names with their orders if the store is busy?...just an idea.) - the male clerk then dramatically/angrily SLAMMED MY CORRECT FILM IN FRONT OF MY FACE before finishing the correct order (like it was my fault) and it was quite awkward and scary after that. the entire time I felt rushed, uncomfortable, and like I was not wanted there. I left in shock. (on a different note, I will say that this didn't happen recently, it was a few months ago. so, who knows if that horrible employee is still there or not. I would love to have walked away from my experience with Glazers able to give a happy, appreciative review. Not the case, unfortunately. After waiting 10 minutes to even get someone's attention in the store I sat through that employee bad-mouthing and whining about the guys in the rental department as he gave me notes on the equipment he suggested for my product. Once I got to the rental store, there was a pompous guy who didn't even listen - just tried to upsell me much more complicated equipment than I obviously would use easily, and $100's more expensive than I needed. There was a fairly helpful guy who finally butted in and got me all set up. The equipment was still a bit challenging for a novice, yet luckily a professional photog was able to help me at the event and our photos came out great. Never did they state a return time for the equipment, and 3 of us scanned the receipt for a "return by" time. At 4pm today when we went to return the stuff they required us to pay an additional $95 due to the tiny print to the side of the receipt that says "by 10am". Cocky. Overselling. High prices. Attitude from sales people. Bad mouthing one another. Unclear rental policy. Wow - I am not a fan. read more

I attended the Basic Photography Class they offer. I'm not sure what is worse, the fact that I spent $50 on the class or the fact that I wasted an hour of my life. The class did not present the user with anything worth while or something that could not be gleamed from watching a Youtube video for free. One of the slides covered different types of batteries offered for digital cameras or the different types of memory cards. Why pay for such things when I can read the owners manual for free? Perhaps my expectations were too high. I can't speak for the retail side of this company but the aforementioned class is waste of time and money. read more

Don't know what it is about Glazer's but I've talked to more women who are pros like myself who complain about their shop assistants' arrogance and disregard for customer service, at least when it comes to women. I grew up working in a "camera store" so it's not like I don't know anything even with all the new digital gear but it doesn't seem to matter who you are or what you know. The folks in lighting are a different story, however. They are friendly and helpful and respectful of your personal knowledge and experience. So ladies, if you can find it somewhere else I'd go for it. Unfortunately, if you insist on buying local (which I do every chance I can) it's pretty much the only game in town. Too bad. Woo hoo.The D-bag behind the counter made it not worth my time to do A and B. I was pretty sure I wanted to buy a cetain lens, so I rented it from Glazer's rental ( much nicer people that time ). I liked the lens, so I am going to pick it up, but not from Glazer's Sneer and Gear. I am really glad that this store exists and will give it another try in a few months. read more

UGH! Why does Glazer's have to be such a painful place to shop!? I really want them to be a great store with good service and competitive prices. (For this review I don't even consider the big box stores just comparable online and dedicated camera shops) . I stop by in a pinch for film and supplies but by planning ahead I usually buy everything I can through B&H photo. Glazer's definitively has the most knowledgeable staff in Seattle and I appreciate they are, for the most part, paid a living wage. I am not a lowest price shopper, and am willing to pay more for local and great service. I bought my first DSLR and flash from them racking up some moola and would love to spend more (and have through B&H and other retailers), but I just can't justify giving them any more of my money to be treated so poorly. It seems that the issues is who is going to spend money or not. (I have heard this statement echoed in a lot of the negative reviews of Glazers and through talking with friends and colleagues) Is this the reason? I don't get it. Do they have an eye for people they think will spend money and ones that are not worth the trouble? Some people say they are great? What am I doing wrong? I can't go into all of the detail of what makes me so mad, but simply, I feel that I am not worth their time. Why should any customer feel like this? I don't just shop at B&H because they typically have the lowest price, but they have excellent customer service. I have used their online, phone, and in store customer service and all of it has been exquisite. I can't say everyone there is terrible. I have had great results with Mark, Kevin, Katie, and Lloyd. If you do need help, ask for one of them to help you out. They all have been really helpful in the past and very thorough. Unfortunately my overall experience of Glazers overshadows these good experiences to the point where I can't justify paying higher prices. Glazer's isn't going anywhere as they are the best in Seattle ( well the only really) and do have some up-sides to note. I just hope they realize that they are loosing some important young customers and they won't be the only game in town forever. read more

I know that camera stores are under tremendous competition from online retailers, so I try to deal locally when I can. But after being treated like a flea-bitten vagrant three of the four times that I have made purchases at this store, I will be making my photography purchases elsewhere from now on. Granted, I only spend $8,000 a year or so on gear, so I'm sure that they have bigger customers than me. Still, one would think that it would be worth their while to make the customers experience as positive as possible so that the next time I'm pricing gear on Calumet or Amazon I would at least give their store a try before clicking on the "buy" button. But if Glazer's management can't hire friendly personnel with the national unemployment rate at 9.5%, I have to assume that customer service simply isn't considered to be a priority at this company. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that some of the folks who work there are perfectly nice. But I am tired of giving my money to salesmen who are condescending, indifferent, and clearly consider themselves to be superior beings. I can get my gear elsewhere, Glazers. And if my business isn't worth a simple smile and a thank you, that is exactly what I will be doing from now on. read more

Since July of 2012 I have spent over $10000 at Glazers lighting and camera. Yikes! I continue buying from them because they are informative, laid back in their sales approach and easy to do business with. Many of my purchases are used gear and the times I have made a return it was easy. When I have technical questions there are always folks who can answer them and proceed to teach me much more than I knew existed. I work at Amazon and realize that I can save a few bucks by ordering online. I choose to buy from Glazers because they are helpful and loyal. Everytime. One request: I think the book section could be expanded. Maybe I am unique, but I LOVE photography books. Not just "how to's" but also books showcasing photographer's of work: Helmut Newton, Stephen Shore, etc. Hopefully you have more space in your new store! read more

It's nice to be able to actually see a camera before you buy it, but sadly the salesmen are more interested in up-selling than being well informed on details about their cameras. I wound up going online afterwards to answer my questions. If you name a price, they will start by showing you a camera $100 more. Their 14-day, 15% restocking fee return policy isn't very good compared with online retailers like http://www.bhphotovideo.com They don't really back their cameras with onsite repairs, so you wind up waiting for them to send it back to the manufacturer. Camera rentals are overpriced, considering you are usually paying $40-$50/day to rent a $700 camera (which you could just buy after a couple of weeks). read more

I've actually been into Glazer's twice now and have been very pleased with the service I've received both times. This most recent time, I worked with a guy named Mark. He was extremely helpful. I've been trying to decide between a couple of Nikon lenses to buy and he was really great at showing me the differences in the couple that were available. I had all of my questions answered regarding the lenses and he even gave me his opinions on a couple of other items in the store that I was curious about. I didn't experience any of the attitude that people talk about whatsoever. He was extremely helpful. Perhaps Mark is an exception to most of the other staff working there - I'm not sure. But I can certainly vouch for him. Glazer's got pretty much anything you could be looking for when it comes to photography. From software, to paper, to bags, tripods and of course - cameras and lenses. I was surprised to even find a large selection of Leica cameras. Something you don't find in a lot of camera shops. There's no way I could afford one of these cameras, but it definitely was cool to admire a selection of what we all consider to be the Rolls Royce of cameras. And overall, I found Glazer's cameras' prices to be pretty comparable to what you find online. At least with the reputable on-line shops. Overall, a great Seattle resource for all things photography. I can see how it could be perceived as a little high-brow for folks who aren't as versed in the particulars of photography. Best advice, do your homework before stopping in here. I think the sales staff expects that most of the people shopping here know a thing or two about photography. If you don't, you'll probably find them to be a little high-brow. If you've done your homework on what you're interested in before you come in here - you'll find it to be an exceptional shop. I've totally experienced the Glazers cold shoulder and chalked it up to the fact that I'm not a middle-aged white man with a pot belly, khaki pants, and matching lens vest. BUT! We seriously need Glazers to be here. There is no other professional photography store like it in the Seattle area any more. The professionals in the area must stand by Glazers. As a pro, you just can't always rely on mail order. Having a local store and rental resource is vital to your business. Additionally, in Washington state we have this little thing called Use Tax. If you buy an item online, you still owe taxes on it. So, you are really not saving any money by ordering online. I've always been on the Optech's side of the Optech's vs. Glazer's loyalty issue - they got me through school and beyond. The staff was very helpful but not invasive, and they always had everything I needed. However, as they've now gone digital only, I've had to switch over to Glazer's. My experience previously had been that, unless you were dropping $2,000 you could forget about any sort of service. But since they now have the cameras/lenses/printers/bags/gadgets (never really my area of expertise) and the film/chemicals/paper in different stores, it's a much more pleasant experience. You can actually get to the film without having to elbow your way through a crowd, and the customer service has definitely gone up several notches. read more

Evil Evil Evil Place but I love it !! so I found a great deal on a Nikon Digital Camera a few days ago on Craigslist, so I have been looking for a Camera Bag, and just not finding anything that I liked or that would work for on the Motorcycle and I remember being told about Glazers from my buddy's that have way more money invested in their cameras than I do, so I was going down 9th and I see a sign on the side of the building for Glazers, so we go around the block and find a place to park, they have a small lot off street on 8th, the street is metered so save a buck and park in the lot the place was busy but they have a lot of staff, I wasn't in thier long before I asked if I could be helped, I was looking at bags but I also wanted to get a second battery, so the man helped me get a battery and pointed me to the back wear there is all kinds of bags from small to travel bags with wheels so I now have this cool bag (man purse the BF calls it) and a spare battery, didn't hurt too bad I think they got about $90 off me today, I could of spent more than that just on a bag, and I am sure I will down the road as I get more stuff read more

Great staff and good resource. But it's hard for me to shop with them. I know I'll flack for it and I do believe in supporting local businesses and local government, but sales tax just kills me. Especially when it's on thousands of dollars in equipment. It's not their problem and everyone pays for it but I can shop online at trusted retailers and not pay taxes. If there was a way to incentivize more locals to shop with them, perhaps a reward system, I think I would do a lot more shopping with them. They have most of the hard to find stuff and mostly everyone trusted sells at MSRP. Their prices are basically the same as everyone else, even the ones in New York that I shop with. If I could get a 9-10% return per every $x.xx that I spent at Glazer's (reward system, gift card, whatever) I think I would do the rest of my shopping with them. If it's not financially feasible to offer 10 cents on the dollar, maybe have some sort of tiered system, where they can cash out sooner for a lower return or save up for a higher return and cap it at 10%. Obviously I'm very passionate about this idea because more and more brick and mortar stores are going out of business - I'm not implying that Glazer's is struggling, I'm sure they are doing just great because they're always packed with people. But when I'm changing systems every 2-3 years and I'm spending 2-5 grand on new gear, saving a few hundred bucks is enough to sway me away and go elsewhere. These are just my honest thoughts, I think very highly of Glazer's and I love going to their store. I hope that I can give them more business than the occasional micro fiber clothes and Arca Swiss plates. read more

The people at Glazer's supply department were not super-friendly, but they were helpful, when we went in from some medium format (120) film yesterday. They were also helpful to us in suggesting where we might get it developed quickly on the Eastside, when we asked. They didn't chase us around the store offering tons of assistance, but we didn't need it, either. We walked straight to the film fridges at the back, and as many other people who go in there, we knew what we wanted. All in all, OK. Dude at the counter could have been friendlier, but they had everything we needed at reasonable prices. The film was actually cheaper than I expected. read more

Let me tell you, I was intimidated about going in here after reading all the negative reviews about customer service. Phew, am I glad I didn't listen. The gentlemen in the supply shop were not only helpful they were patient and totally took my frenzied questions calmly and with no hint of sarcasm. I was in a rush before a photo shoot and needed a pocket wizard cord for my flash (because yes, the cords that come with the pocket wizard eventually fail and I'd rather it not fail on a photoshoot). But, once I walked in there was lighting equipment everywhere (which, is my soft spot, I am obsessed with lighting). I wanted to stay forever and pick their brains but I had to dash out quickly. I felt compelled to write a review for this local camera shop because I've had such a pleasant purchasing experience just now (bought a Sony a6000 + some accessories). The vibe of this place is less like a place for selling products, but much more like a place for hobbyists to find the items that they need to pursue their interests. I really appreciated the fact that the employees here were not in the business of trying to sell products, but instead tried to find the best cameras that would fit customer's (my) needs. In my case, I am going on a trip with some of my friends to Alaska to see the Northern lights. Not having much knowledge about cameras before I walked in, I was unsure about what I needed. Cody addressed my questions with precision and gave me just enough insights (without overwhelming me with a deluge of extraneous information) to help me pick out a camera that would fit my use case. In spite of my lack of knowledge in photography, I've visited a dozen or so camera shops before in an attempt to find a camera to buy. In the vast majority of those cases, the employees tried very hard to sell their newest, shiniest toy at the customer's expense. This was certainly not the case for Glazer's Camera. I've come away impressed by not only the depth of Cody's knowledge, but also the professionalism that he displayed by honestly letting me know what I needed (and what I didn't need) without the typical tiresome salesman mentality. Whenever I need to upgrade my camera or buy anything camera related, Glazer's would without a doubt be my first choice. The laid back sales approach has earned my trust and I will definitely be coming back. read more

I've shopped at Glazer's more times than I can count. Great service, every time. Sometimes it gets busy and I have to wait, but it's never been an issue. I'm surprised some people on yelp claim women aren't getting good service here. Last I checked, I was a woman, and I got great service. I'm not sure about the disconnect there; they should have treated me poorly due to my inappropriate gender for a man's hobby (totally kidding)! Glazer's appears to employ a few females, too, though I've never talked with any of them. This isn't the place to get the cheapest gear. For that you go to the inter web tube nets. I've always found the staff here to be incredibly knowledgeable. I was just starting to get into photography and the staff have always given me great advice. They have a great selection of equipment from paper to tripods to camera bags to flash accessories. This is the place to go when you want to cop a feel of the latest equipment. I've rented lens from Glazer's. It's always been a good experience. In a pinch, you can even have them courier the equipment to your office. If you rent the equipment on a Friday, you get the whole weekend for a day's price. Glazer's current represents my standard for camera shops. It's only 4 stars just in case I run into a shop that I like more. I haven't. read more

Brandon--the staff member I worked with--was friendly and helpful. I rented a Canon L series lens here for a few days. I was anticipating trouble or surly attitude based on the negative reviews regarding customer service on Yelp and on Google Reviews, but I encountered none of that. I knew what I wanted to rent, called ahead to make sure they had it in stock, and showed up after 3pm to pick up the rental. I was aware of the deposit (typically equal to the cost of the lens, in case you break it), and was happy to place it on my Visa. Brandon gave me a tip--if you pay for the rental fee (which you do when you return the lens) with the same credit/debit card that you placed the hold on, it frees up the hold quicker. The rental fee was very affordable--about 1/60th the cost of the lens! The lens was in great shape and worked wonderfully--the value of the photographs I took far exceeded the rental fee, even strictly on a "pleasure of working with nice gear" basis. What brought them from 4 stars to 5 was the fact that weekends count as a single day's rental, and a holiday weekend resulted in me being able to keep the lens from Friday afternoon until Tuesday morning for a single day's fee. Awesome and unexpected. I had a good experience here and I look forward to working with them more. I will certainly be returning to Glazer's for my equipment rental needs. read more

My experience at Glazer's is much the same as other reviewers in some respects. I agree that the customer service could use some work. No one was rude to me, but they did leave me alone at a counter for longer than I would have liked. I was there to check out the new Panasonic GH2 which is a pretty pricey camera...$1700 with lens. The sales person who did help me was quite knowledgeable and friendly. I didn't buy the camera on my first trip to the store, but he was still quite friendly when I left. I agree prices are high. I could have found the camera cheaper on the web, but I wanted to buy locally and if there was a problem with the camera I wanted to be able to go to a local store not have to deal with sending the camera through the mail. On my return to Glazer's to buy the camera my experience was much the same. A longer wait than seemed appropriate given the number of free sales clerks, but once I was being helped the sales clerk was very knowledgeable and friendly (even before he knew I was going to buy the camera). Improved customer service, a better website, emails to former customers on upcoming sales or classes would all be ways in which Glazer's could set themselves apart from the big box stores and on-line sellers. read more

This is how you operate a camera store. While the old school complain and go out of business while blaming their plight on the Internet, there are those the are connected, plugged-in and do business right. Glazers. Just bought a $500 slide and film scanner at Glazers and feel the least I can do is let others know how good the service was. And how incredible the selection of camera gear is at that store. I could have bought for the same price from an online mass seller, but went to Glazer's as they are such an awesome camera store. Been going there for decades, maybe once every couple years, and want them to stay in business. At the store earlier this week, the sales guy Bill, who is expert in the scanners on the 2nd floor, was super helpful. After months of online shopping I thought I knew what scanner I wanted but still had trivia questions that neither the manufacturer Plustek nor any online reviews had touched on. Like, do the slides advance automatically through the scanner or do I push the slide carrier one notch after each scan. A: one pushes the 4 slide carrier to the next slide after each scan. Not a prob, but I wanted to know. Bill knew the answers to all my questions - and gave good background explanations on some concerns. I bought and left. At home I ran into a problem and wrote an email to Bill - as he had given me his card. He replied the next morning and had the answer. Awesome. Just incredible. This was followed up the next day with a phone call by Bill to me asking if all was being resolved. We chatted about the solution. I glanced at his card as he had written down the days he was at work - and noted he was calling me on his day off. So - I will continue drive to Glazer's in Seattle for photo gear. They hire experts and obviously pay them well enough to keep them on staff. I was a professional photographer for a couple decades in my youth until I moved to marketing and can say that this is a world class camera shop. The ability to handle new equipment and ask questions in person to an expert has huge value. And it is much more fun than clicking a button on a website. First off, I'm a total camera n00b. Along with this new frontier comes an endless wishlist chock-full of lenses, accessories, and doo-dads for my fancy new DSLR. A trip to Glazer's is like dangling a dime bag in front of an addict: there's enough gear in that place to keep me drooling all over the shiny stuff. (And if you're ever in there and there's a big slimy drool puddle over the case holding Canon lenses, you'll know I was just there.) Prices for some items can be a little high compared to some online retailers, but you won't have to wait for shipping and you'll get that warm, fuzzy feeling you can only get from personal service. Finding someone to answer your questions can be tricky on busier days, but once you wrangle someone they're very helpful and friendly. read more
