This review is for the hotel, we didn't dine at the restaurant during our stay. While I can understand it is an old building and definitely outdated parts of the rooms but the cleanliness should have been much better. Especially since they called us saying we could check in early if we chose to because the room was ready early. They had plenty of time to do a better job. The coverings over the box string and mattress were very stained, almost everything had a coating of dust, a couple of the towels had markings and the shower liner also had stains. The dust was so bad in the room that we had to get allergy medicine because we woke up feeling awful from the dust. We removed a fake plant coated in dust from the room moving it to the hall and got cleaning supplies from the front desk to clean the AC, fan, etc. The AC was horribly coated like it hasn't been dusted or had the filter cleaned in years. Also, the AC barely worked to cool down the room. The dust was piled on the lights, door frame trim, baseboards, and so on. The bathroom could highly benefit from even minor upgrades. The threshold holding down the linoleum was popping up from the floor, the shower head was practically an outdoor water spigot that you'd see at the beach to wash sand off, and there was no vent to deal with moisture from the shower. For other updates the ceiling has visible water damage marks and cracks along the walls. The continental breakfast is just highly processed pastries and sugary cereals. Some fruit would've been a cheap and desirable option. Quite a bit of noise from the music in the restaurant and could hear banging / foot steps from down stairs anytime of the day. Only giving this place 2 stars because the front desk workers were nice. But a stretch to call it a hotel. Extremely disappointed that we paid to stay in such discomfort but being summer in the cape options were limited to switch after seeing the room. It is hard to find funding could be a source of issue for cleaning properly or basic up keep when they have two restaurants and rooms they are charging a decent amount of money for. read more

I am really disappointed with my experience with this restaurant. Both our server and from what I believe restaurant manager were unprofessional and rude. Not attentive at all Our appetizer took exactly 1 hour to arrive to the table (salad only), they forgot to put our entre order twice. Neither server or manager came to our table once to apologize or check if our food was okay. Server completely stopped serving us after we got our food. no boxes offered, we had to go to the front to ask for the bill. The Glen Cove Hotel & Restaurant was a great choice for us! I'm going to go over the restaurant and our hotel stay in this review. The location is perfect for those who want walkable access to local attractions in Onset. The beach is literally right across the street and is perfect for a quick frolick without having to lug around the needed beach accessories. The interior of the hotel is beautifully designed. It's slightly archaic (in a good way) and it felt like being inside someone's home. Check in was very easy, and they even called us to let us know that we could check in early (which we didn't since we arrived about an hour late). The room was cozy and clean. Don't expect lots of bells and whistles; it's set up is simplistic and I prefer that. Be aware though that there isn't a refrigerator in the room. They do provide 24 hour access to a fridge down in the lobby where you can get yogurt, water, juice, and milk. The included continental breakfast doesn't include any hot food, but they do give fresh coffee and hot water for tea and oatmeal. They also have cold cereal (great for kids), muffins, and granola bars. I would've liked hot foods to be available, but I think what they offered was fine especially for the fair pricing. The dining experience was fantastic. We had dinner here two nights: Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday night was quiet, and we ate on the outer deck. Our waitress (can't remember her name) was absolutely fantastic and knew the menu very well. She made some great suggestions and we loved everything we had. I strongly suggest the bruschetta. Thursday night was a bit different as they had live music in their downstairs bar (the 1883 lounge). We ordered mostly appetizers while enjoying the performance from Michael Paul Brennan. They had a coconut shrimp special which was absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered that night was just as good as Tuesday. The service on both nights was also very good. We never had to wait around for our waitresses and they never rushed us throughout the evening. Overall our stay was fantastic and we loved every bit of it, save for only two minor things: our bed and the pillows. We both found the bed to be a little too stiff for our liking. The two pillows included in the room were either super soft or very firm. I'm sure there are people who like a firmer bed, but we weren't them. Also, keep in mind that the parking lot isn't huge. It's a decent size, but it gets filled up quickly around dinner time, which isn't a surprise given how delicious the food is. Just keep that in mind that you may have to wait for a spot after a full day out. Those are the only negatives I can think of, and honestly even with that I think I would still return. It was a pleasant stay overall and we enjoyed ourselves. I definitely think a stay here is worth a shot for the average person, especially considering how close to the beach you are. You also don't need to travel for delicious food if you don't want to, and if you decide to do so, there are plenty of options within walking distance read more

A bunch of drunk bar rats and karaoke DJ with his friend as the main singers for most of the time we were there. Not because there wasn't people to sing, there was a waiting list. This dinner was almost perfect. Service was attentive, possibly because we were the only people in the restaurant. He was not very knowledgeable but was very pleasant. They do have another restaurant in the basement called the 1883 Lounge, but they were having karaoke night which is NOT what we wanted. The basement seemed to have a lot of people. Crab cakes were 4.5*. They came with chipotle aioli which was a perfect match for the crab and had just the right amount of spiciness (not too much). Unlike many restaurants, there was plenty of crab inside. I liked the glass of Pinot Noir I ordered. My main dish was sword fish. The quantity of fish was much larger than what you get at most restaurants and the cook and seasoning were right on the mark. This was the best sword fish I have had in several years. The fish came with chipotle lime butter, parmesan risotto, and grilled broccolini. The chipotle lime butter and the broccolini were superb. If I was a vegetarian, I would have an entire meal of the broccolini, it was that good. I have rarely liked risotto. For me it was above average, but not something I would get again. The only negative of the night was that my wife found some sand in one of her scallops. She gave them 4*s. Their parking lot is quite small, so in the Summer time, you may have to park down at Onset Pier. read more

Stay away from Glen Cove Hotel & Restaurant in Onset! I hope Mark Salerno, and his brother John read this. My friend Jim Matt Teixeira and I went there Last night (Friday) for dinner, and to listen to the band, and we were treated like a couple of second rate citizens. Half hour after eating our meal we were asked to move along to make room for another party to dine. There was a party of 4 right next to us who were there well before us, and they were not asked to leave. Very rude, and unprofessional. We spent our hard earned money on a expensive and less than satisfying meal, but I guess that didn't matter to them. Maybe we weren't the qualifying skin tones to be teated like human beings me being Portuguese and Matt Cape Verdian. Maybe we needed to be white and rich to be able to stay and listen to the music once we paid for our meal. Never will we step foot in that disgusting establishment again, and spend our money. Plenty of places around that appreciate us being there. Rant over. Don't go there and Condon this despicable behavior from less than inviting hosts. read more

I hate to drag a rating down as a result of crappy service but the food wasn't very good either so I'll lead with crappy service. We had a large party and the waitress refused to split the bill which I've never experienced anywhere ever. So onto the food... I got a lobster roll but there was truly no seasoning at all. My sister got the same and we both agreed not worth the money. My other sister got the special Prime Rib and it was a thin, overcooked cut and she did not enjoy at all. A stones throw from the gateway onto Cape Cod proper, the Glen Cove Hotel is in sleepy by day, party by night Onset MA. It is truly a one of a kind hotel, perfect for those that do not mind experiencing from the comfort of their lovely room, a little night music. I'll return to the entertainment portion of my comments at the end of this review. The hotel setting is across from Onset Bay/East River inlet in a quiet residential area that shares turf with a few dine in eating places & other small hotels. The road can get a little noisy in the evening. The hotel itself is a 3 story Victorian that has a basement speakeasy for evening libations & music. There is a restaurant over looking the water & a bar on the 1st floor. The second & third floors reached by elevator or stairs have queen & king rooms, some with private sitting porches looking out onto the water across the street from the hotel. Rooms & bathrooms are well kept. Our queen bed was a little creaky & not as comfortable as I had hoped but it sufficed. There is no small personal fridge in the room or coffee pot but 1st floor restaurant provides a continental breakfast for overnight guests. On the first night We dined in the restaurant & we're very pleased with our dinners. Fish & Chips was authentic ( 2 whole pieces of perfectly fried cod filet ) as was the generous lobster roll of primarily knuckle & claw meat. Service was pleasant & accommodating to substitutions. After dinner we retired to our room & settled in. We were aware that the establishment hosted local bands & musicians in the evening but we passed. That didn't seem to matter though as logistics & architecture saw to it that our room was a-rocking until 10 pm on night 1 & 11 pm on nite 2. Earplugs & the a/c turned up didn't really help. We still felt that the Glen Cove Hotel deserved 4 stars for cleanliness, staff friendliness & an excellent restaurant. read more

This review is for the restaurant, we did not stay in the hotel. 6 of us arrived around 3:00 on a Saturday after taking the Cape Code Cruise (which I separately reviewed). We were the only ones in the restaurant. FOOD: Really good! The Calamari was cooked perfectly and generous portion so plenty to share. The most loved entree was the fish and chips. The fish was flaky and the coating had wonderful flavor. The Cobb Salad, Clam Chowder and Onset Beach Wrap also get honorable mentions. Well prepared, fresh and tasty. SERVICE: Lindsay was attentive and friendly and ensured the drinks and waters were always refreshed. BAR: Great selection of beer, wine and cocktails. I got the house wine, Butternut Chard, $11 and it was an average pour. The cocktails were all pretty, but I can't comment on the taste or alcohol content as I did not sample any of those. ATMOSPHERE: Beautiful view of the harbor. Bright, cheery and clean inside. There are a limited number of guest parking spots behind the hotel, but when we arrived it was quiet so there were plenty of spots. The sign noted "guests with rooms", however, no one had any issues with us parking there as we were eating in the restaurant. 2 recommendations: add banana peppers to the calamari and for the salt shakers to have some uncooked rice added as the salt was clumpy and would not come out of the shaker. This is a nice spot in Onset and a great place to stop in and eat! read more

This hotel overlooks Onset Beach and Stopped by and decided to have a few drinks at the bar and some appetizers for a late afternoon snack. The bartender was very friendly and recommended the wings, which were delicious. They also have homemade fries, which are always a favorite for me. They have live entertainment on the weekends and the band "Timeline", I believe was their name, was playing that night. We ordered dinner, and I have to say, I believe it was the best prime rib I have ever had. Good music, excellent food, and a bartender that can make a great dirty martini. I love the speakeasy theme of the bar downstairs and will definitely be back in the summer when I can enjoy the beautiful beach right across the street. read more

I came here for dinner in the Bay Room on Saturday night. I had been here for brunch a few times as well. Great stuffed quahogs, a Cape Cod specialty. I really enjoyed the wedge salad with chicken and my boyfriend loves the 1883 burger (the fig jam makes it incredible). The salmon salad is just okay, the salmon's Cajun seasonings don't pair as well with the berries / pecans in the salad. There's music downstairs in the 1883 Lounge on weekends, we stopped by briefly down there and it was hopping. Will visit again! read more

This beautiful revived and refreshed historic boutique hotel with waterfront views of Onset Bay was my stay one overnight during September. The wonderful warm reception was amazing along with the relaxing and fully stocked hotel room ( there's a small but warming space heater in the closet to keep you toasty) and a very comfortable bed, extra blankets and lots of comfortable pillows. I'm overly impressed with this beautifully restored boutique hotel. It's comfortable, cozy and welcoming. After 30 years as a flight attendant for a major airlines I've stayed all over the world, this Glen Gove hotel is so inviting, I highly recommend it. read more

We stayed and dined at the Glen Cove for Valentine's Day. We were spoiled with 2 bottles of wine sitting on ice, a half dozen chocolate covered Oreos, and a rose in our room to celebrate the day. We ate here tonite, May 12, 2022, and enjoyed a wonderful, professionally-designed & constructed dinner. I had the steak tips which were cooked to my order--perfection. And the asparagus side--so delicious. Hubby had the personal pizza of basil and fig, which was soo tasty! Smiling service and Hostess checking in on our meals and satisfaction. The appy of bruchetta was unbelievably tasty with it's Balsamic Reduction-- another Must Have. Great menu, and pricing reflects standards of 2022 & attention-filled entrees. Highly recommend. First time there. Attentive staff. That's good. First floor dining room is very nice looking out to the water. Had clam chowder-moderate price-large serving- it wasn't thin, because. It had a lot of cream, but not many potatoes. Stuffy $5. In New Bedford it's $2.00 at Captains Table. But this was much much larger, and spicy. Here you ask for hot sauce, they give you a nice amount in a paper cup, In New Bedford they throw a Franks Hot Sauce At you. Oh it's a stuffed cohog surprised at how good. Caesar - we asked for onions and anchovies. Nice. And they made there own excellent croutons. Fish and chips very good. Wings were huge and I guess we can get different sauces. Mine was terreeaki. Tried the 1883 lounge tonight downstairs in the newly renovated Glen Cove Hotel. Had dinner at the bar. Cool atmosphere, brick walled room with bar, high tops and booth seating. Bartenders Danny and Isabella took care of our every need. The scallop and Bacon pizza ordered crispy was great, with basil that added a little sweetness to complement the salty bacon. The beef sliders had bacon, cheddar cheese and pickle on pretzel buns with a spicy aioli. Very good. Prices are reasonable. Parking is tough, with a small lot and permit parking in the residential neighborhood that surrounds, so you may have to walk a little bit if the lot is full. read more

We had a group of 11 for dinner. We are a mildly difficult to please group with gluten allergies, vegans, and adults that only eat chicken nuggets. Every single person in our group thoroughly enjoyed our meals. From the chicken wings and coconut shrimp appetizers to the chicken stir fry, onset beach wrap, every meal was fantastic. We were glad to see this property reopen after seeing it empty year after year. It's been updated but it's very charming inside and the update retained a lot of (what I assume) is an authentic look. We went early for a Friday night dinner and had the coconut shrimp appetizer, an 1883 burger and the fried hot chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I thought all items were well prepared, offered generous portions, and the menu was diverse to suit just about anyone (not as robust as a Cheesecake Factory Menu, which is insane). Everything was fresh and hot. Server was attentive and sweet. This was a solid choice for a really nice meal out. We had a 4 person table in the Bayroom and it is a beautiful setting. There is a tavern downstairs which also very unique and has a good feel to it. I think we spent around $40. We will be back! read more

This was such a nice hotel. All of the staff were accessible and nice. The best thing about this hotel is the amount of care and consideration they have for their guests. The worst hotel I ever stayed in. I planned a nice overnight for my birthday to treat myself and although the room was pricey ($200), I reserved a room with a private balcony. The front desk person at check in was very pleasant and informative, promising all kinds if services available at the front desk. After 5 o clock the front desk was deserted and nobody answered the phone when I called down. I wanted dinner and went into their "dining room" which contained 2 people sitting at a high top looking disgusted. I passed on the oak grove room or whatever it was called. I never found the bar until I had already returned from dinner at a restaurant across the street.I happened across a waitress who directed me downstairs to the 1833 lounge. The bartender greeted me and showed me to a table and then proceeded to spray it down with bug spray. She asked for my name and number for contact tracing and left. Several minutes later she returned with a glass of water. Never asked for my drink order/ food order-nothing. Then she NEVER CAME BACK TO MY TABLE! I felt completely ignored and when some strippers or hookers or whatever came in, it started to feel like a batchelor party was about to kick off. I got up and left the bar feeling very uncomfortable about the whole "dining" experience and returned to my room. I called down to the front desk to complain about the bartender and nobody answered the front desk phone. I called the main reservation number and got somebody on the line. I explained my problem getting served and was invited to the oak grove room bar which I declined. The woman offered to bring me a beer to my room. When she arrived I told her that I was disappointed and surely expected a lot more from the place for 200 dollars a night. She offered to get me some phone numbers for management and left. She never returned. Later the bartender came to my room and brought another beer with her apologies and gave me the managers numbers. I called both managers and got voicemail. I texted John, who never answered my text or vm and neither did Crystal. I texted her as well and never got a response. It was only when I grabbed a waitress to tell somebody I was leaving and I wanted my money back that Crystal appeared. She said she couldnt respond because she was in a meeting with the owner and the chef. I guess the customer comes last at this place! I told Crystal that i was unhappy with hotel and i wanted a refund. I got my money back and left. The owner was on site during this whole shitshow and never bothered to come out and check with me, the unhappy customer. I will never go back and i would not recommend this place to anyone. AVOID THE GLEN COVE HOTEL AT ALL COSTS! read more

Such a GREAT spot in onset to enjoy a nice night and have a drink and an app. The atmosphere is 5 star, I really love what they did to this historic spot, it's great to see a place like this in Onset Renew it's self. They did a great job. For the service, again, 5 stars all day. As soon as we walked in, the very lovely hostess greeted us and gave us a little run down of the restaurant and Inn. It was our first time, we had been waiting to go for a few months and she provided a great first impression. The wait staff were all very pleasant and seemed like they all had a pretty good system going. We sat at the bar in the main dining room for dinner and the bar staff were all awesome, very pleasant and attentive. The specialty drinks seemed like they were all well though up, a decent wine selecti Now, unfortunately this review changes direction for the food. We started off with the Charcuterie board which was great, huge but great selections. We tried a stuffed quahog but the taste and consistency fell flat. The size of the clam and stuffing was one of the largest I've had but it lacked flavor, was mushy throughout and could have used some texture. For dinner, i had the chicken piccata special and my husband had the steak tips. My piccata (Chicken piccata is one of my favorite dishes) was served with a large slice of Mozzarella which may have sounded good when planning but at the end didn't add anything and really had no place. The sauce serviced on it was on the bland side but the breast was cooked nice. The meal was served with a mushroom risotto that really was a deal breaker. No flavor and texture was off. My husbands plate was a little bit better than mine, the cut of meat was cooked great but the sides also fell flat. Over all, mostly everything served could have used some seasoning and it seems that maybe some more experience on the line will greatly improve the menu. Overall, we enjoyed this restaurant and certainly plan to return. I look forward to summer nights sitting in their beautiful dining room and taking advantage of the amazing view. I hope this place improves their food and lasts because it could really establish its self as a must visit place for both locals and tourists. read more

Perfect Addition to Onset Eateries and Bar Scene! When we arrived the hotel hostess met us with a warm welcome and was very excited to show us around upstairs before we headed down to the 1883 Lounge for drinks and an app. The space downstairs is very nicely decorated and laid out. There is plenty of seating and a nice bar area. I got a Hendrix tonic that was perfectly made by Danny, the very attentive and welcoming bar tender. Ally also helped us when we sat at the high top next to the bar. She was very punctual and attentive. We ordered two stuffed clams which came out hot and crispy on top. They are different than the average stuffie as they are HUGE and stuffed with a sweetbread mixture along with the clams. I'd give them a 7.5 out of 10 for stuffies. They are VERY filling and a good deal in that sense. Not the most clammy, but very tasty over all. We will absolutely be back all this summer! A+ job read more

But it was take out, so I would think 5-10 minutes travel time might have affected it slightly, I ordered a burger and paid extra for cheese (although they forgot it so no cheese added but was still charged for it), steak tips that were pretty tough and overcooked on the outside and raw in the middle, and fries that were soggy.
