Regarding the beaches, to the west are the family beaches and those that prefer to wear clothing. To the east are the clothing optional beaches. If you choose to go to the clothing optional, it's all good, no gawking, just people enjoying the beach and water in whatever way is comfortable for them. For me, that's a swimsuit. In the simmer when the river is low, the beaches are wider. And the water is surprisingly warm. Not tropical warm, but refreshing! Located just past Vista Point and before Multnomah Falls and the other 6 waterfalls along I-84, you can do all of this in one day. Or just spend the entire day at Rooster Rock enjoying walks, a swim, a picnic. Or do the hikes and waterfalls and come back here for a picnic and sunset. The fee for parking is $5 and you pay at the booth as you enter the park. Then you can continue driving and park anywhere, depending which side of the river you want to hang out on. There is plenty of parking but it does get crowded on hot days. If you are taking the shuttle to Multnomah Falls or other sites along the Scenic Highway, you pick it up here, after you pay and park. It's just 30 minutes from Portland so if you are looking for something different to do, that doesn't really cost anything, and you enjoy nature, chilling in a beach or grass and picnicking, it's a nice spot.

They have a few different parking lots, and some public restrooms near the parking & picnic shelters, but some restrooms close for the Winter and there aren't any restrooms out on the trails. There's a couple of covered picnic shelters and beach access at a few spots, so it can be popular in the Summer. The trails is quite long, and connects to the trail system at the wildlife refuge next to it, so you can just walk out & back for as far as you'd like. The trails are mostly flat and gravel, so it's not to bad or muddy if it's rained recently. And if you're in this area and want to grab a beer after you finish your walk, both Recluse Brew Works and 54-40 Brewing are very close by (and 54-40 has a great patio open in the warmer months and great food, too).

I especially love Carver Park, because there is a stream that flows into it which is not too deep and my dog can normally chase ball all the way across it. When I went to the park yesterday, the water levels were so high that there were like a torrent. My dog was able to follow the tennis ball down the clear creek without getting swept into the river, so I was happy. This would be dangerous for less fit dogs.

Carver boat ramp seems like just another simple country river boat launch, but stop by on any…read moreaverage summer weekend day and witness the most awesome collection of helmets, rednecks, river-rats, and other assorted Americana. Carver is the take-out spot for the infamous McIver-Carver and Barton-Carver floats down the Clackamas river. This mostly (seemingly) calm 3-5 hour float takes you down the Clackamas amongst beautiful green trees and throngs of beer-drinking teenagers to thirty-somethings. What should otherwise be a fairly off-the-beaten-path float becomes as crowded as your average day at the water-park, but with way more beer and moronity. To be fair, it's an insanely fun float, and were it not wall-to-wall with people, the water would be decently clean. The surface makes it look like a calm river, but people die on it on just about a weekly basis. That's not to say that you can't chill out and have a safe float. A little respect for mother nature goes a long way. But come the end of your float, hop on out by the time you reach the boat launch. That's presumably where you parked your escape vehicle earlier in the day, it's where hundreds of drunken post-float kids congregate to decide where they'll be continuing the party, and it's the location where I watched a mother cry in agony when she was told that her child had just been sucked under about 50 yards downstream under the bridge (past the boat ramp). It was intense. Not much of anything awesome to say about the park/launch itself, other than that it has bathrooms and if you get there early enough, places to park one of your cars (you'll need it at the end of the float to go back up and get the car you left upstream at Barton!) Be safe, have fun, and don't swim downstream under that big-ass bridge! A river this large deserves your respect.

Easy launch site for kayaks as well as motor boats. This is a clean, well-tended park with…read morebeautiful views of the Columbia. There are plenty of trees to sling a hammock or just to chill in the shade. The western part of the park offers a smallish beach and shallow water for family picnics. There's a lot of parking--much of this park is dedicated to parking. There are life jackets available via the honor system to keep people safe. I truly appreciate that move. In truth, this may not be the best picnicking area with only five tables available, but if you don't mind spreading a blanket and enjoying a more intimate view of the beach and the river, this could work out well. There is a day use fee of $5 and you can pay at the entrance via a park employee or at one of the autopay stations. There are 10 gender neutral bathrooms and 6 lanes of boat ramps. If you are kayaking or canoeing, the shore is a bit rocky and the water is very dynamic. I had to paddle hard to clear the Island to get to the Washington side of Government Island. Be careful!

We did the round lake loop trail that is about 1.5 miles round trip. It is relatively flat with a few inclines and declines. We saw families using strollers on parts of the trail. The trail is shaded for almost the entire route. The trail is well maintained and clean. The trails are clearly marked and the signs are easy to see. There's bathrooms and a playground for kids. We saw a lot of people using kayaks in the lake. There's also picnic tables and benches to use. This is a great option for any age and ability. It's beautiful and green. I highly recommend Lacamas Lake for those who want to enjoy the greenery and beauty of Washington.

This park is very lush with picnic tables and grills spread out for privacy. The view of the lake is gorgeous! There are over 6 miles of trails, some of which intertwine. If you're new to these trails, a map is a good idea; one could easily get lost if not familiar as the trails aren't all marked. I just took a picture of the trail map by the parking area to have as reference in case I needed it. The trails are lush and mainly dirt and rocks. If you walk down to lower falls the trail can be a little more treacherous. Some of the hills are steep and some rocks loose. Make sure you wear the proper footwear. There are a few falls to see, many creeks, a dam and a couple lakes (Lacamas and Round). Overall a wonderful place to get outside for fresh air and beautiful scenery. Highly recommend.

OUTSTANDING! This…read morehike was a challenge and a total Adrenalin rush for my crew and I. I loved it! We had to work our way over a huge log dam which was very steep and slippery. You had to pass this to even get to the falls. The water was freezing, so make sure the shoes you wear you do not mind getting wet. TIP: make sure you arrive as early as possible. The hike and gorge itself becomes very crowded as the day goes on. As you make your journey to the gorge, you find yourself walking into waist deep water. The moss caves and steep mountain sides are beautiful. The water may have been cold, but it was so FRESH and clean. The water was cleaning my shoes and I did not realize until I saw them at the end :D After you take the adventurous hike to the gorge, you can hike your away to another waterfall that has all sorts of views!! I felt at peace during this entire experience. The temperature is always cooler in the mountains/ by the water, we wore dry fit clothing(tank tops and capris) and were a little chilly. I cannot wait to hike to this gorge again, and the surrounding waterfalls. This is MUST vist!!

So a lot of people who disrespect the beach. It's actually quite sad. The people we have met there are all very friendly. And I saw quite a few who were also picking up trash. One of my dogs had decided he needed to poop 4 times so I just added trash to the bags each time. As there was plenty. The parking is only $5 for the day. It's WAY closer than the coast and it's easy. For all the convenience, and nice people it's a 4/5. For my baby Finn, he loved it. And that makes Mama smile.

Google Maps may direct you past it. The beach is quite long so you can walk further away from people. Shady areas get claimed quick. It's mid-level cleanliness, I would say, not the worst beach I have seen but also not perfect. I did not get in the water. Nice views of Mt Hood, the Washington side of the river, and planes flying in and out of PDX.
