Perhaps if we had a dog we'd like this park more, as it seems like a popular place for people to bring their dogs to run off leash and to play in the river. Even in places of the park where dogs are supposed to be on a leash, 99% of them were not. We were disappointed in the park from our human hiking perspective, and since you have to pay a $5 day-use fee if you don't have a paid park pass, it is unlikely we'll return. But if you have a dog, you might like it. read more

This place is a hidden gem, despite all the mosquitos! A friend and I went to get some exercise and let his dog have some fun off-leash. There are several trails to walk around with a large off-leash area to let your furry friend roam for a bit. There's also an area that you can walk down to on the river, which is perfect to cool off a bit on a hot day. There is a parking fee to come here. If I remember right, it was $5. read more

Labrador retriever mom here. What a place but parking is hard. It limits the crowd, which is probably a good thing, but what a lovely place to take my dog during the heat wave. We came at 7 AM this morning and had a great time. The water is clear, cold, and not too deep. It's just a tributary or part of the Delta, so sandy bottom, some rocks, but you don't need to worry about your dog will be swept away in the current. read more

Big, awesome park for a long walk and fun with the pup! Many trails, both main trails and semi-hidden back trails to make you feel secluded and adventurous even on a busy day. There's plenty of large open areas for the dogs to run around and awesome sandy beach areas with shallow flows from the river if your dog likes playing in the water. The park is clean and safe of the riff-raff found in and around other Portland-metro parks and trails. The other people we encountered in the park were friendly dog owners as well and all on the same page as far as dog etiquette. (If you couldn't tell, this is definitely a dog-focused park) We felt comfortable letting our 4-month old puppy off leash and have some fun. A nice breath of fresh air in more ways than one. read more

This park is where we chose to go on a very hot day in Portland. The paths we walked on provided some much appreciated shade. It was a beautiful walk, with lush plants, greenery, and flowers along the way. We walked down to the nearby river and enjoyed walking out into the cold water. There were many people and dogs taking advantage of the cool water. On our way back to the car, we decided to be adventurous and took a different path. We ended up on a barely discernable path through that vegetation. It eventually came out on the main path and we were able to get to our vehicle! The only down side to our walk was that several people had not picked up after their dogs. I also imagine that during certain times of the year there would be many mosquitoes. We were not bothered by any this time though. read more

I normally like to write positive experiences since there much more fun to share. I wasn't impress with this particular park, there's just way too many better trails along the road that are more worth the time. This region is too flat, not much to see. I did noticed a ton of dogs and maybe this is more for walking your pet. read more

Take your dog here and take off the leash. Then you'll get to see your dog be a dog. It's the best dog park I've ever been to. There are trails in the sun and shady trails that feel like rainforest. Bunnies if you're quiet and berries if you go in the fall. Beautiful flowering trees and shrubs in the spring. Oh and the birdsong! So many birds in the trees...lovely. The river is slow and Sandy. Very unique spot. The trails are very diverse and plenty. The adventurous or the boring can find a trail that suite their needs. Rugged, river side trails in dense shrubbery to plain, flat trails in the meadow center. Plenty of extremely tasty wild blackberries bushes, and of course the permission to off leash dogs is a huge plus. Only downside here is that many owners don't pick up poop, and you'll probably get assaulted by mosquitos near the river. I got six bites. read more

This is what dog park dreams are made of! This Troutdale gem is massive, and a true paradise for dogs to run around, swim in the river, and play off-leash. The trail system is extensive, and overall it stays fairly clean. Trash cans are placed in high traffic areas, and bags for cleanup are provided. The park is accessible year round, and it's great in every season. The parking lot is large, but fills up quickly on weekends. Many people resort to parking along the street outside the park (an on/off ramp to/from the i-84), or even in the dirt lot near the overpass, or at Lewis and Clark park. Get there early for easy access and smaller crowds. read more

Wonderful place to walk your dogs as long as they are well trained and socialized. There is one trail where you have to keep your dogs leashes, otherwise it's free to roam! You can hike for hours or keep it quick. By far the best place to walk your dogs in the pdx area! read more

This is the place where Portlanders go to when it's a crazy hot day. They come tubing on the Sandy River and I don't blame them one bit. A fresh water river with a sandy bottom and sandy banks (hence the name) a legacy from near-by Mount Hood's volcanic past, this is really a super pleasant place to spend a day to tube, swim, laze about in the shade (if you can find any) or read a book or nap. I stayed in the near-by McMenamins Edgefied for 2 days and both days, I ended my afternoons by coming here to cool off and swim. The water is super clean, blue-green almost in deeper parts and the fact that trout spawn on this river says plenty. Trout is one freshwater fish that can only spawn in the cleanest possible water. I even saw a few swim by in some of the eddies close to the shore. Everybody comes here to hang, kids, teens, couples, families, singles and everyone is minding their own business and enjoying themselves here. It's a beautiful, cool spot, with the river on one side, towering evergreen cliffs on the other, eagles circling overhead and an amazing blue sky. The facilities in the park are also pretty good. A place to shower yourself or your feet off of the sand, washrooms which are pretty clean by public standards, public transport which comes right to the park and decent parking as well. What's there not to love? read more

Our dogs love the delta!! That being said, there is so much dog poop!! Bags and garbage cans are provided so there is no excuse for this. The trails are littered with it-gross. Dog owners-please be responsible and pick up after your pets. read more

Great hiking spot! Be sure to take the same trail back as you go in, they do not all lead back to the same parking area! And bring water, it's a good mile hike down to the river bank! Pretty rad! read more

Saw the area after a wrong turn, went back and had a good time. Didn't walk the trails but we'll go back for sure! A really nice park!! Floated around in the water. Be careful, it looks calm but if you float too far and have to swim back it takes a little effort! read more

Doggy paradise!! Oslo loves to come here. He is leash aggressive so being able to be off leash here is great and then he interacts well with the other dogs. Wish I had learned about it sooner. This place used to be magical for the DOGS- the one place we could take them and let them be free. It is turning into a place for family and toddlers and no one with dogs who get annoyed about dogs running and barking and playing. I wish they would make this a fee park - I would happily pay to make it more dog friendly ... families - you have so many places to go where dogs have to be on leash go there and leave this place to the dogs! read more

If you are a dog owner, this is an absolute must-go. Tons of open space and most of it off-leash. Virtually everything your dog could want on a clear day - vast grassy plains, well defined and maintained trails, and access to a dog-friendly river beach! Poo bags are available at the parking lot (which fills up quickly on a summer day - the lot not the poo bag) and there are periodic garbage cans throughout. Truly, very close to dog heaven! I just wish the dog owners were better about cleaning up after their dogs by the parking area - the beginning of the path was littered with poop. This is a great place for dogs and humans to enjoy. The parking lots fill up fast. Do NOT park your car in the area reserved for trailers and rv's. It's an $80.00 ticket and they patrol it year round. read more

Super loved this spot to come with the fam and hang out on the river. The train bridge was absolutely picturesque when the train passed over top. Bathrooms within walking distance. We went on the hottest day ever and lucky brought a canopy because there is not much shade. Will be making this a regular stop when in Portland! read more

The off leash area is big enough for humans and dogs to get some exercise, and there are some distant mountain views and nice river access, but with so much amazing natural beauty in the area I had hoped for nicer scenery. I now realize how spoiled I've become with the hundreds of miles of trails in the Oakland CA hills, an off leash paradise in the redwoods. I had expected Portland to be more dog friendly but this is the only place we could find where we could actually hike with the dogs off leash. read more

Today I saw people shooting a .22 caliber rifle , I know it's legal to shoot outside of city limits and I also own guns and I go shooting but not in a park where is lots of people an dogs walking through the trails, I ask them why they doing this and they said is legal and they don't care so I walked away , called troutdale police to ask the same question and they told me it's perfectly fine, what are you guys think? read more

You can bring your mountain bike or just walk the myriad of trails of the park. You can bring your dog or your horse. Wonderful place to get lost in nature! Just be aware of the dog poop that can be in the middle of the trail or in a baggy thrown off the side of the trail. Can be stinky but once you get further away from the parking areas you end up seeing (and smelling) less doggy doo. Good for wildlife viewing as well! read more
