She offered to bring out a couple dipping sauces for our fries, and I asked for the bourbon jelly, which she was willing to do. That initial interaction set a great tone. The food itself was very good--both burgers were delicious. Unfortunately, after we placed our order, the service dropped off completely. We waited about an hour for our food, with no check-ins, no water refills, and no acknowledgment of the delay, even though our server walked past our table multiple times. At one point, I had to get up and find someone to talk to. I asked a man near the front for a manager, explained we had been waiting an hour, and pointed out our table. No one ever came over afterward to follow up. We were later told there was a large party, which is understandable--but that's not something customers or servers can control. A simple check-in or acknowledgment would have made a big difference. Instead, we were told we "should have said something," despite no one coming to the table. At the end, we waited again for the check, and when my daughter calmly tried to explain our frustration, the server spoke over her and said, "I'm almost 50--I've been doing this since I was 17," which came across as rude and unprofessional. The food was good, but the lack of communication, attentiveness, and management involvement made this a disappointing experience.

A real struggle on graduation weekend:…read more Party of 12, Saturday night. We were told that it wasn't going to be a prix fixe menu as we were a party of under 12 when the reservation was booked (we asked). It was. Selection was somewhat limited particularly for the vegetarians but the waitress said that they could swap veggies in for the trout in the risotto. They didn't. It was just risotto. Potato leek soup. So salty that it was inedible. Like sea water salty. Three of us sent it back. NY Strip. Boring and clearly hadn't been seasoned before cooking (ironic). Not quite cold but really, really close. A little tiny ramekin of chimichurri sauce which I was supposed it make it interesting or tasty I guess. It was neither. The whipped potatoes were delicious. Desert was a borderline interminable wait. And then they served gelato and sorbet to four of us. Think milkshake. A thin, runny milkshake, approaching soup. The food runners and waitress were so embarrassed they couldn't look at us when they dropped the desert and ran. Who lets ice scream, posing as soup out of the kitchen. It used to be a quaint little place with fantastic food ... And now, an overpriced, industrial'ish place with sub-par food (although the owners are clearly cashing out, leaning on its prior reputation). Unfortunate. $85 a head, $1,500 all in with drinks and tip.

They are still going through their soft opening period with an abbreviated food menu at the time of this posting. A larger menu is upcoming. The food menu offerings include appetizers, salads, burger & sandwich plates, bowls, chicken entrees, pork tenderloin, coconut shrimp, pierogies & kielbasa, filet mignon, ribeye steak, kids menu, and desserts. The pricing seems pretty fair, most entrees in the $12-$21 range with a few in the $26-$40 range. The place has a laid back rustic barnhouse atmosphere with dim lighting with seating up at the center bar in front surrounded by high top tables and booths, flat screen TVs on the walls, and a back dining area with regular tables. The bar offers 6 beers on tap, wine and mixed drinks. While driving along US 20 through the farm country of Schoharie County, I stopped in for dinner at Fancy Farmer in Sharon Springs. The place was moderately busy on a hot Saturday evening. I headed up to the bar and took a seat. The bartender gave me a food menu and I requested ice water as I made choices. I started out with Pierogies (4 for $6.50 plus tax) which came out hot, 4 pan fried potato filled Polish dumplings with sauteed onions & sauerkraut and sour cream. These oily firm pierogies were really great and I enjoyed each bite. Next, the Low Country Shrimp & Grits ($17.95 plus tax) was a modest portion with soft stone ground grits smothered with a creole sauce, Gouda cheese, andoulle sausage slices and three grilled very firm seasoned shrimp, no tail and cleaned. This Southern style dish had a nice spicy flavors and the grits were not too hot. I was all set after finishing my food and got the check which was $26.41 with tax and before tip. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal with good service. The bartender checked up on me asking how the food was and offered refills on the ice water. I would definitely return to Fancy Farmer once their menu is expanded and can't wait to taste what they'll have to offer.

Food was very tasty and well prepared. It was not hot. I didn't really mind so much because it was good. And I was hungry. Salad bar potion of the buffet was mostly empty. Little disappointed in that. Service to our table and bar tender were very friendly and on point. The restaurant itself was very nice and had a great atmosphere. I will be back and hopefully have a five star experience and review to follow.

The NY Strip Steak is delicious, the French Fries crispy and hot. Key Lime Pie finished the meal. Two things that needed attention. I asked for A1 sauce (it came from the fridge ice-cold) on a nice hot steak, not ideal. Also, the steak was a bit overcooked. To me, that is better than not enough. The table across me asked for Medium-Rare, and those steaks looked pretty much overcooked. Aja was my server, another lovely young woman. Both were friendly and attentive. The staff is young and eclectic, friendly and attentive. These are young people earning a living in a poverty-stricken part of NY. The restaurant views of the lake are great.

Summary: a lovely night out with good food and lovely ambiance and service, but my socks weren't blown off like other reviewers' were. The review: We were able to call the day before and get a reservation for 2 people at 7:30, and when we showed up, we loved the quaint, cozy renovated old home vibe. It's a modestly upscale restaurant in Cherry Valley, NY, another of the cute small towns in Upstate NY. We did get a couple of the daily specials, so I don't know how truly indicative of the vibes and regular food this review will be. Drinks: I really liked my Manhattan. However, my wife's cocktail, a daily special that we can't remember the name of, was almost cloyingly sweet and had an artificial caramel taste that overpowered the drink for her. We loved our spicy (they had to call it as such for liability purposes, the only spicy thing on the plate was the "medium" spicy salsa accompaniment) Beef Empanadas and Crab cake main. Entrees: to be honest, my seared duck breast special needed a little more grits, definitely a few more brussels, a smidge less sauce (it was balsamic-y an kind of over-powering) and a pass with pepper or something just give it a little bite. The duck was wonderfully tender and the grits were great. My wife also found her Ahi Tuna main nice and fresh but also a bit whelming. When we next find ourselves in Cooperstown, we might pop back up the Cherry Valley and come here. But, simultaneously who knows if our schedules will allow that.
