I find that the most stressful part of moving isn't packing nor unpacking, but rather it's finding the right movers to do the job. Moving companies often outsource their people so one person might have had a great experience with their guys but that doesn't mean you will get the same people. The only thing you can do for yourself is clearly communicate your budget and expectation for your move. The rest is really a little bit of luck and ensuring that the company you hire has insurance, and professional owners/managers. Since I've moved 4 times in the past 6 years, including cross country, let's just say I've become somewhat knowledgeable and know what to expect from good movers. I spent a week looking through all the diff options on Yelp. Reached out to about 6 companies for quotes and ended up booking Global Moving Systems. I exchanged messages with their owner on yelp and once I confirmed that I will book them, someone from their office reached out to me the very next day to confirm details. After the phone call, I received an email with a link to put down my deposit. It was fast, simple, and convenient to book them. My movers arrived on time, knew what they were doing, and they went straight to work without wasting any time. My bigger pieces of furniture were carefully wrapped and they disassembled my bed frame as well as the brass legs to my sofa to avoid denting them. Once we got to my new home they were just as efficient in moving my items in. Stacked up my boxes nicely and asked me where I wanted each item of furniture. They even helped me put up my curtains and ensure my rug and rug padding were straight and aligned in my living room. As I am unpacking and settling in, I did notice a small scratch on my tv stand and one on my bed frame. They are not big enough for me to be concerned about. If you're going to move, just expect to have some flaws from wear and tear. Overall, the move went as efficiently and smoothly as it can be. I have moved around 7 times in the past 10 years and always had a bad experience. After searching forever I decided to go with Global Moving systems. This may have been the best decision of my life! I don't know where to begin. Since it is annoying to read several paragraphs I am going to pinpoint the highlights (I'm not a big reader) :) - The crew may be the nicest people on the planet. Eugene and crew are just kind people, which is hard to find around DC sometimes - They move super fast. They cleared out a pretty good sized one bedroom in 1 and and half hours AND we got kicked out of the loading zone for around 30 minutes since someone took the loading dock I reserved. You may think "oh that is too fast. They probably broke some stuff." Nope. Not one thing was scratched. AND they were walking the furniture down the road to not lose time after getting kicked out. - Extremely well priced - Usually I try to help movers during the process but I hurt my lower back. Eugene overheard me say that so when I asked him to help me move an extremely heavy piece, he did it himself and acknowledged I hurt my back. Long story short, I would give this company 10 stars out of 5 if I could. I never write reviews, but I felt the need to write one for Global Moving Systems. From the scheduling to finishing the move, GMS was a pleasure to work with. They are professional, clear, courteous, and diligent. When scheduling, GMS was prompt and helped me with some last minute changes (bigger truck, bigger crew, different time) and really put my mind at ease that everything would be taken care of. They also have an easy-to-navigate online scheduling system and automated emails to make it clear that everything about your scheduled move is in place. During the move itself, Bakha (sorry if I misspelled...) and crew were very professional and took extra care with wrapping, moving, and securing our belongings. This was my first distance move having any sort of furniture, and Global Moving Systems did a great job - especially for someone moving no more (and likely less) than a studio's worth of stuff. Anna in the office was pretty responsive, and was very helpful answering all of my questions. Leading up to moving day, I was feeling pretty good. The actual day got off to a little bit of a rocky start, given that we had agreed on an arrival time of 7-8am, and I got a call at 7:30 that they were only just leaving and wouldn't be at my place for another 45 minutes. Given that I was doing a long distance move with a strict cutoff time in my new building, I was a little frustrated. However, once Rush and Vladimir arrived, they packed up my items very quickly and even help properly pack my fragile items like my TV and mirror. Due to traffic issues, the moving truck beat me to my new place. Rush and Vladimir were really great and didn't complain about the wait at all. Once we got there, they were quick to unload and bring everything into my new place. They even helped take the couch that I had pre-ordered to my new apartment up from the lobby to my unit, which they absolutely didn't have to do since it wasn't part of my original move. My only cons were that Rush did speed through the signature process, and that neither of them wore masks at any point (I'm vaccinated, so it wasn't a huge deal, but it didn't even look like they had them available if needed). However, in the grand scheme of the rest of the move, these weren't dealbreakers by any means. I would definitely recommend GMS to others! read more

Communication was well done. The estimate sheet stated everything that I needed to know (including any rate increases). I packed all my boxes since I was only moving into a small 1-BR apartment. Email reminders of my move were helpful and if I had any questions, their replies were quick. My whole move was quick and easy. My only complaint was they arrived at the starting point about a half hour earlier than expected. It rushed me a bit since I was eating breakfast at the time and I had to quickly eat and change before their arrival. Other than that, it was one of the most easiest moves I've ever had. I'm very disappointed to write this since a couple years ago we used Global and had a good move. But we used them again this year for our move from Chicago to Charlotte and it was a horrible experience. I highly urge you not to use them as a moving company. The dates worked out where Eugene had a team in the midwest, so he took on our move and offered to do it at the same rate as we paid 2 years ago, which was great. About a week before the move he called to ask if we could move 5 days earlier, that it was better for him, and we made it work. The movers were supposed to arrive from 8-10AM. They didn't arrive until 4:30-5PM. The truck, and the t-shirts the men wore, said "Green Line Moving." Originally, I thought we still had members from Global doing this move, and Eugene led us to believe that, but this was the team we got. The packing was slow and took hours, far too long. Our apartment wasn't empty until 2AM, which was unacceptable. Our building staff was pissed about the noise and how long the elevator was locked. The packing was sloppy and items were thrown into boxes without wrapping or any professional effort. We were supposed to meet the truck at our new apartment at noon 2 days later. They arrived around 5:30PM. The unload took a long time (despite a 3rd guy helping at one point) and was done once again very sloppily. A single man brought in our very large dresser by himself, with dolly wheels on our new carpet, and almost smashed it into the wall while trying to get it off the dolly alone. They didn't empty our clothes out of our dresser drawers, and moved it full. We had a cabinet in our living room with 2 drawers full of fragile barware, which was also packed without emptying the drawers. One of the movers carried it in upside down, the drawers fell out, and all the contents smashed all over the floor. Nothing during the pack was organized or labeled. We couldn't find any important electronics cords and the movers had no idea where they were. As we unpacked over the following week, we found boxes where items were just thrown in. A glass jar was thrown into a box upside down, with the contents spilled. My KitchenAid mixer, which was a wedding gift, was put at the very bottom of a kitchen box, sideways, not wrapped, next to metal objects. One of the levers broke off and can't be replaced. This is a $500 mixer and was treated like it was worthless. Our mattress was bent throughout the move instead of being kept straight. When it was put on our bed, the top was uneven and warped. The movers made no effort to clean up after themselves. They left trash all over our old and new apartment buildings. The reason we hire movers is because our home is important to us and we want professionals doing this job. That was hardly the case here. All packing, disassembly, and assembly of furniture was supposed to be included but my husband had to keep jumping in and doing some of this himself because of how far behind the move was running. We came to an agreement with Eugene for about a 15% discount for the fact that everything ran so late and was done so poorly. As we found more damage and issues as we unpacked (due to the movers' negligence, not typical move wear and tear) we reached back out with our concerns, and asked for another $350 to cover just SOME of the repair and damage costs. He responded saying this was fair, and that he'd write me a check, but ONLY if I signed a form saying I wouldn't review him on Yelp. That is completely shady and unacceptable. It's also not how Yelp is meant to work, paying off customers to keep reviews offline. When I said I'd sign an updated form without the mention of Yelp, he responded with a nasty email saying that he changed his mind, now he wants the 15% discount he gave us paid, and if we don't pay it, he'll send us to collections. He doctored the contract my husband signed with the total amount, ABOVE his signature, to make it look like my husband signed off on paying that extra 15%. This is completely and totally unprofessional. Who does that? Someone you shouldn't work with, that's who. Eugene insisted he did us a FAVOR by doing this move. Apparently the move that got them to the midwest cancelled, so they could have cancelled on us. Frankly, he should have told us the situation up front instead so that we could have been the ones to decide to find new movers or work with this team. He also kept saying how he was losing money on this move. Ok? You are a business owner and your choices led to this situation. I'm sorry if you lost money but we lost time and important belongings in this scenario, too. Sometimes as a business owner, that happens. We shouldn't have paid a cent with the way this whole move was handled. I'm sure they will respond to this review with all of their points about how somehow they're not in the wrong. But all of this is true, it's what happened, and it's on them as the business. read more

I moved one month ago and just getting around to filling out this review of Global Moving System. My wife and I always do our research when making a large purchase decision. This was no different. We reached out to five moving vendors before making our selection. All saying what you expected them to say and some overly persistent reaching out to me before making my selection. Global Moving System was the only one that took the time to send someone to my house to give a first-hand evaluation of our move which was very professional in my opinion vs Zoom call or basing the job on the square footage of our house. They came off as very professional. Had a good track record and a lower price than the rest. So we selected them for our move. They kept in touch with me throughout the process. The day of the move they were punctual and came ready to work. They worked throughout the day only stopping briefly for lunch on a 12-hour day and at our house, They worked like a fine-oiled machine. Them knowing what each person's responsibilities were. Never slowing down and Staying on point. They left our house late that night with about a van's worth of items not fitting on either truck. Only to then have to drive the two trucks out of state the next day to unload the morning the next day. They stayed positive and cheerful the whole day, The office manager managed to make some magical adjustments to other scheduled trucks to pick up the balance of our load and deliver seamlessly for us as well as the other jobs schedule. The owner also worked very had to find someone who would professionally reassemble our pool table after our move and called me personally to speak with me and share the arrangement he made. This is the 7 move I have been involved in 5 out of state moves, work-related, and can honestly say they were the best I have worked with. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service, price, and professionalism at every level. I would highly recommend them and will make sure to share my experience with as many as I can. After getting numerous quotes, I decided to go with Global. They were not the cheapest nor the most expensive, but some of the cheap quotes had some red flags that just put me off. After messaging Stefan a bunch of times, his demeanor just stood out to me. I got a sense of trust and professionalism that just sat right with me. I called him on the phone to give him our 10% deposit (to reserve the movers) and my hunch was right. He's a very personable and professional guy - very easy to deal with and articulate. Before the move: Questions were answered in a timely manner. During the move: Three young Georgian guys showed up and they could not have been more professional. They showed up in a Budget Rent-A-Truck which was kind of odd. I expected it to be a truck with their logo on it - like in the pictures on Yelp. They moved the entire contents of our 2 bedroom apartment in disgusting Summer heat and humidity. We gave them plenty of water, fruit, etc. They actually showed up earlier than planned. And while I understand why - due to the heat - we had the freight elevator reserved at a specific time. I have to say that it stressed us out. So the guys went to breakfast and came back at 9am. The house (we're moving into) has mostly hardwood floors and the guys put felt pads on all of the furniture before placing them onto the floor. They also furnished a large plastic envelope for our king size mattress. They used tape to make diagonal handles so that carrying the mattress was easier. Cool trick. One thing that irritated me was the fact the office never told the movers that we had an upright piano. They were surprised when they arrived and didn't really have all the proper equipment to do the job efficiently. So they hoofed the heavy piano up two flights of stairs by hand. After the move: Nothing was broken, lost or damaged. Truth be told, they decided not to move two glass items for fear of breaking, even though I suggested wrapping them in furniture blankets and tape. The day took about eight hours - for three guys and a truck, it cost me $1125.00. To be clear, I rate the three guys a solid five stars but the company 3.5 stars for poor communication. read more

I'm glad I moved with GMS. I compared nearly 20 companies and really explored about 5 before deciding on GMS. Yuri was upfront and transparent. Expectations and pricing were clear. Crew was efficient and professional. We did a local move but we had ~12,000 pounds of stuff so it wasn't an easy one. Three guys took care of it over two days, but they hustled...it was clear they wanted to finish the job so I and they could move on to the next thing. I paid less than the estimate. I am so happy I hired Global Moving Systems for my cross-country move. The 3 men who packed my fragile belongings and furniture took their time, and did it right. I felt confident everything would arrive in the best condition possible. My desk has a glass table top, and I also have mirrors; I'm so relieved to have them back in perfect condition. I moved March 30th from NYC to Bethesda, MD with two babies from a three bedroom apartment that was full of belongings. These guys were amazing. I got an all inclusive quote - there were no hidden fees, no drama. The move went very well - nothing was damaged and the guys were very quick. The apartment was completely empty in about three hours. During this time they moved all boxes, suitcases, and furniture to their truck. Dissembling of some furniture was needed as well (and they helped our reassemble it at the new place).
