Ruined a dress -- I'm not coming back here. I had to get a gown hemmed while at school and was looking around for a good tailor. I read all of Gloria's reviews and she seemed promising; the only negative ones were about the wait, which I didn't mind. Everybody said their items turned out great, including some bridesmaid's dresses. Gloria pinned my dress and said it would be ready within a week for $40. I came back a week later and paid her in cash, but only got a chance to try it on when I got home. To my dismay, my dress was drastically uneven and shorter than intended. I called her to see if she could fix it and she agreed to have it done by the end of the day if I brought it in. When I went there again, she pinned it again and told me she'd call me when it was ready. When she did decide to call me again she told me I had to pick it up within 20 minutes because she was closing, so I was caught off guard since she said she'd stay open later for me. I tried on the dress again and it was still uneven and the stitching was poor, but had to accept it as I needed it the next day. Which is very affordable given other places I've been. I forgot my shoes there. She was very nice to call me to let me know and hold onto them until I came to pick up. Worse customer service EVER! Called to get a quote and she said she would have to see it. I was in the area so I asked if I could swing by in 15 mins for her to look at it and quote me. She immediately starts going off on how she doesn't have time and everyone's on vacation and not her! Lol she got an attitude as if it was my fault she was working, as if working during these tough times is a curse. The prices are great and sometimes she'll throw in a free service when I bring multiple items for alteration. She's always honest and has been able to bring some of my clothes back from the dead! This is my first yelp review after having this app for years. I went to this lady after seeing she had good ratings and was close by my home. I took a dress for simple alterations which she initially told me would cost $10. I came back the next day (today) to receive my dress, and after virtually no difference in my dress, I decided to just pay her and move on with my day. I had a great first experience with Gloria's Alterations. The shop is located within a marketplace. There is a small parking lot and the vendors provide validation. On a Friday morning, I brought in 2 pairs of dress pants to be hemmed and Gloria was very helpful and accurate with the measurements. One pair cost $5 and the other $10, the second having a liner layer inside the pant leg. It was very affordable and professionally done. I brought things to Gloria on several occasions after a friend referred her when I was looking for a good tailor. The first time, she did an expert fix on a rather complicated jacket zipper that another tailor in Koreatown had tried unsuccessfully to fix. The second time, she repaired a broken buckle on my bicycle pannier, replaced a zipper on a skirt (also added a hook and eye closure so it won't happen again), and shortened two pairs of pants - all for $20. That seemed like a really great price. She mostly speaks Spanish (I do too, so I didn't test out her what I gather is limited English), and is super-friendly. Because of problems she's had with credit cards in the past, she prefers cash, but there is an ATM in the Mercado. Although her card says 9 am - 6 pm, she stays until 8:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Plus, you get to eat at two of the best restaurants in L.A. while you're there - Mo-Chica or Chichen Itza (get the incredible papadzules if you've never had them - delicious!) - an added bonus! read more

I had Gloria alter a pair of dress pants and a skirt before I took her a bridesmaid dress, and I was happy with all three. I was nervous at first because her shop looks like a disorganized pile of clothes and her customer service isn't great, but her work and prices are good. Other reviews complain that she is rude, and it's true that you'll have to wait if she is with another customer and she isn't great on the phone, but she was perfectly nice and gave me her full attention when she was working with me and most importantly, did good work. She gave me quotes for prices and estimates for when she would be done, when I dropped the clothes off, and stuck to them. I called to check that things were ready for pickup, and she realized that she'd taken-in but not hemmed my pants, but she completed it before the end of the day for me. Was super dissapointed with this location. I arrived to this location and a man was working on a suit. I asked him if I could get a quote and he said he doesn't do thatm Gloria does. I've been taking my clothes to Gloria for alterations for years and was surprised to see the negative reviews. She has always been cordial, the quality of the work is great, and the prices are so reasonable. I just picked up a dress she took in which was tough because the top hem drops from the bust line to the small of my back, so keeping the angle while taking in about 4 inches was not simple. She's also taken in a blazer and basic hems. It is true she doesn't give quotes but I have come to trust the price she gives me will be fine.
