I brought 6 shorts and 3 shirts to this tailor. All 3 shirts were done as requested. However, while all 6 shorts were cut shorter, 4 of the 6 were not tapered and the waists of 2 shorts were not taken in and made smaller. I returned to the tailor and explained that all 6 shorts were not done as requested. Yet, they insisted that all shorts were done as requested. And therefore, they did not complete the task. Because of this experience, I do not recommend this tailor for alternations. Translation Traje 6 pantalones cortos y 3 camisas a este sastre. Las 3 camisas se hicieron según lo solicitado. Needed a quick and affordable hemming done after my rent-by-mail suit for a wedding came with pants that were too short. The shop was quick, helpful, cheerful, and most of all it only cost me $10. They were able to do it then and there same day in 30 minutes! Great for me since I was in a time crunch. They didn't cut the fabric and just sewed the new hem. I needed a bridesmaid's dress altered significantly for my sister's wedding. The dress I ordered was two sizes too big and didn't fit me the way I wanted it to fit. Orellana tailored the dress to perfection and made it look amazing on me. She nipped and tucked the dress at my waist and hips, and even covered up my fat arms. This business lost or kept items of mines and refused to return or compensate for them. When I initially asked about the missing pieces i was told "we don't like the distrust". REALLY?? I didn't accuse them or anything I just let them know that items were missing and asked if they could look for them. Their response was uncomfortable (see screenshots). I responded by explaining more about what was missing thinking maybe there was a language barrier or something. They then tried to blame me saying that I had already picked up the item(s) but luckily I had pictures and text messages they had sent from the previous week showing what I had actually picked up. After I sent them the pictures and screenshots as proof they responded saying "well we don't have it". Smh. I would not trust any of my things in their possession if I were you. They're not honest people. There were several other things wrong and missing from this order. I will never do business here again. read more

I want to give more stars because Orellana is a skilled seamstress. Unfortunately, the man that fixed my blouse did not follow her initial measurements and pinning. He ruined my blouse with shoddy work and completely wrong tapering work. I will have to wear it for chores now instead of as an elegant blouse. ON THE OTHER HAND, (no pun intended), Orellana did a beautiful job with my vintage silk dress. The elastic at the top was useless after twenty years. It had been stretched out and the dress could not be worn, (I wish I had a before picture). The way Orellana measured Orellana around my shoulders and above the breast considering the sleeves and fabric, gave me great confidence. She worked with the delicate fabric keeping the integrityf the design and material as original. You cannot teach that kind of care. It comes from within. I am not just satisfied with Orellana's work; I'm happy with it. I will bring my clothes only for Orellana's hands from now on. That way I'm sure I will not be disappointed. read more

Fairly disappointed. Brought in a pair of athletic shorts to have new elastic put in. The shorts came back with the drawstring relocated to the back of the shorts above the butt, and new holes to accommodate this change. Not sure how they could have mixed up the front and back given the original design and pockets on the shorts. The waist band also looks really ragged now. Given the price of the alterations I would have been better just buying new shorts. read more

Don't. I took two dresses to be hemmed. That was fine. Then I brought a dress to be taken in slightly. She tried to rush me out without trying it on, and when I did I discovered why. She has taken it in so much that it is pulling across the stomach and waist. It's too tight standing up, and I can't sit down in it or I will split it. She cut the excess fabric, so it can't be let out. The dress, a brand-new dress with the tags still on, is now completely unwearable. I wish I'd never come here. read more

Over 4 years of living in Downtown LA I have been to several tailor shops in my hood. Monte Carlo was way to expensive and the work was done off site making the inevitable corrections impossible, Nams was cheap and quick but low quality and distinctly cold customer service made it not something I would do again. Then my girlfriend turned me on to Orellanas. This was her go to shop for everything from massive dress reconstructions to custom pillow cases. Her ability to speak Spanish gave her an advantage that I used to form my own alliance. They have since worked on several suits, jackets, vest and even stuff that isn't normally tailored. Pricing is in the standard to low end of most DTLA tailor shops with hens being around $5-6, jackets taken in for $15-17 etc. I am half-way tempted to bring them my entire closet. read more

When I came to pick it up, the hem was not straight at all. It was jagged and crooked. When I brought this issue up, I was received with terrible attitude and was rushed out. I love this place! I was on vacation in LA on a holiday weekend and ripped a hole in the butt of my jeans. I called several tailor shops and they were BY FAR the most helpful and polite over the phone. They fixed my jeans in less than 1 hour for only five dollars. I had dropped off a dress that needed a very minor repair to Orellanas and felt like she did a great job. Because of this experience, I decided to have her repair a new top that was pulling a little at the yolk due to the nature of the fabric. Initially she told me that it could not be repaired properly because there is not enough fabric to mimic the ruffles. I told her that if needed, she can use some of the fabric on the side to create the ruffles as the top is a little too big anyhow. She confirmed that this can be done and agreed it would be the best option. When I received it back I was mortified at what was done to the shirt. The ruffles are only suppose to be under the yolk but she went ahead and ruffled the whole front seam across compromising and changing the design completely. And to top it off, one side had more ruffling than the other so I'm not really sure what exactly they were going for here. When we brought all this to her attention, she got really defensive and questioned if my top was actually even new because it "looks old." After explaining and showing her the obvious faults she was still very defensive and went on to say that all her tailors are very good and they work on $2000 dresses all the time. She finally agreed to redo the top but wanted me to wait another five days. I don't feel like it's fair for her to make me wait that long while she fixes something they screwed up. Had she just acknowledge the botched job then maybe I would feel better about leaving the top there but the whole situation was making me uncomfortable. I explained to her that I don't want to wait another 5 days for my top, especially since they were the ones who messed up and she said we can take it if we want. When I asked her about refunding my money for her botched job, she refused. I didn't want a confrontation so I just took the top and left. I find this business to be highly unprofessional. Any one who takes pride in what they do would immediately repair the top and get it back to me as soon as possible. She never even apologized for the inconvenience and her defense was "it can't always come out the way you want it." This really baffled me. If you aren't able to accomplish and deliver what I need done then don't take the job. Now the whole style of the top has been compromised and I have to pay someone else $25 to fix her mistake, on top of what I paid her to screw it up. I wouldn't recommend this place simply because of her lack of customer service. If you receive something back and are unhappy with the result than you are shit out of luck because they think really highly of themselves. I've attached photos of what the top is suppose to look like and how it was returned to me, with holes and all. I understand that the nature of the fabric is delicate but they should have also treated it like so. Very disappointed + upset. read more

Was referred here by Richard's Tailor Shop. Was quoted over $100 on a dress elsewhere, got it done here for $20. Did an ok job as far as I can tell - for a $40 dress, it was sufficient. Also got some designer dress shirts for work shortened here for $15 each, and it was a decent job. In reference to my fellow yelper Binky F., I wouldn't take a $1200 cashmere jacket to a place in the fashion district that's cash only. If you can afford the jacket, get it tailored at a full service tailor where you have some sort of insurance on it. For example, If you buy an Armani Tux, Nordstrom's in-store tailor is actually fairly priced and will always do a good job. If not, you can bring it back and point out the issues. Don't try to save $50 bucks on a $1200 jacket, or don't own a $1200 jacket. TL;DR: bring your low cost clothes for low cost tailoring. Take your expensive items elsewhere. read more

What a joy it is to find a place to properly transform a regular fit pair of suit pants or jeans into a more modern slim fit! I took a vintage jumpsuit here for a same day alteration. The neck was hard to unbutton and button; and since I planned on wearing this on New Year's Eve, I needed a better solution, otherwise going to the Ladies Room was going to be a problem. I have gone to Orellanas now a couple years .. First time to get a dress altered only days before my best friends wedding and she did a great and efficient job! A year after that I lost 20 pounds and brought her my entire work wardrobe and did a great job and very inexpensive! The only reason I didn't give her a full 5 star is because I did come two days after the day we agreed to have my suits ready and it had not been done so it was inconvenient to come back since I do avoid coming to DTLA due to parking.
