I was hoping that the hot spicy Mexican meal would counteract my deepening existential dread due to the unpredictable advance of highly developed ai enabled robots imminently to infiltrate our entire society. Had my first, but certainly not my last great meal at Gloria's Kitchen this evening. I had been hearing many good things about this Mexican restaurant which is now under new ownership and has just acquired their liquor license. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people at the restaurant tonight. I guess the word of mouth really is getting around. My husband and I split the carne asada dinner which came with guacamole, a nice chunky salsa, rice and beans, a cheese enchilada, and tortillas. My husband wanted flour tortillas and I wanted corn and it wasn't a problem at all to split the type of tortillas. He had a house margarita and you could actually tell it had some tequila in it. I ordered the strawberry margarita and it was tasty too. My daughter and her boyfriend split the shrimp rancheros dinner which also came with rice and beans and the tortillas. They also ordered a chili rellano that was delicious. I normally don't care for chili rellano but I had a bite and I think I'll order one of my own next time. It was that good. The mandatory tortilla chips were warm and the salsa was perfect. The service was efficient and our waiter checked on us several times to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. It was!! Now for the clincher, all the food was reasonably priced. The bill for all 4 of us with alcohol was less than $80! And we even had leftovers to take home. Obviously I can't say enough good things about Gloria's. I almost hate to post this review because I don't want them to get so busy we have to wait when we go there. But word is getting out so get over there and try it out soon. read more

Staying in Ventura this weekend and felt like having some deliciously cooked menudo. A review of Yelp brought us to Gloria's Kitchen. I am a menudo connoisseur mostly because I have been making my own menudo for decades based on a long time family recipe. For me an excellent bowl of menudo is one that contains bite size pieces of tripe, not huge pieces which usually indicates a quantity batch cooking approach and not a quality cooking approach to making menudo. Also care in eliminating fat from the tripe so that the menudo soup broth comes out savory instead of real greasy. And finally, putting enough hominy ratio and serving the delicious bowl of menudo hot (heat wise) as opposed to just warm. The menudo this morning at Gloria's Kitchen was 100% excellent. It met all my desires in a bowl. Next time we return to Ventura and in the mood for menudo I know where to go. I highly recommend Gloria's Kitchen for menudo! read more

I'm still giving five stars, because the food has remained consistent for the last 25 years. Covid was very hard on our midtown community, but even if there are new owners of this place, I've been eating here since I was 6. I mean I'd come in at that age with my friend and they'd serve us like adults, they are a core staple of our neighborhood and always have been. I see younger staff now that buzz around a bit more, but it's just fellow millennials keeping that classical ship afloat. My carnitas wet burrito, as usual, is perfect tonight. If it weren't for the flavors Gloria has always offered, even if it's not Gloria anymore, I wouldn't be a chef today. I love this restaurant, I love everything about it, and I'm overjoyed they're back to being open for full days of service. It was busy tonight like I hadn't seen it in a while, so I'm seeing that the business is doing well and I'm excited to continue supporting it. I stopped eating out for a while because it's unaffordable these days, but I was glad to learn that at $14, this burrito still comparably undercuts the competition by 5 bucks. Eat their burritos, eat their plates, take pleasure in their carnitas, carne asada, and chicken. THEY NEVER SKIMP ON MEAT!! If Lalo's on the avenue we're next door, they'd go out of business. Service was great. I had a chili Verde Gordita.,delicious! My wife had huevos ranchero. Delicious! Side of rice and beans made from scratch . Delicious!!! I also had an Al pastor taco. The first day I walked up here just because I needed to get out of the house. I got some menudo and it was so good I drove back the next day. I find it very convenient that they have a parking lot in the back. The service was good, quick, efficient, friendly. (I did it before and had trouble rolling down the street after) I hope this review pops up for people like me that (when the mood is right) Yelp searches: Breakfast burritos. 2nd visit to Gloria's was two weeks ago, and it was another fetch and carry meal. My husband was hungry for a breakfast burrito. Now this was not his first breakfast burrito, he has eaten many over the years, but he said that this one was the best he has ever eaten, and it was a giant of a burrito. He had a little left over for the next day. I was not feeling like Mexican food for breakfast so I tried the egg muffin sandwich with hash browns. Delicious!
