I've been going to Gloss Nail Bar for the past two years and have almost always had a really good experience. Some experiences could've been better, but overall it's a nice place to go. I came in today with my two daughters for services and from the get go the front desk associate seemed annoyed and not very friendly. Seeing that there were several people waiting, I asked her very politely if there was a way to book online. Gloss used to have it to where you could book through Facebook. She looked me up and down and said in a very condescending tone that they don't do that on Facebook and seemed unaware that they even had that. She kept asking me in a rather rude tone if I wanted to book online and I told her I didn't. I wanted to check in as a walk-in, but asked about online booking for future reference. For some reason, we kept going back and forth all the while exhibiting this rather standoffish behavior with my daughters there. Seeing that her behavior was not improving, I at this point I decided to leave. Front line people dealing with customers especially repeat ones shouldn't treat people like that. I like Gloss and hope this issue will be addressed so others won't have to be treated this way either. read more

I came here for a pedicure on 10/10/22, and right from the start the was a weird vibe. I set the appt for my sister, myself and my 6 year old. They only had 2 openings, but ended up taking all 3 keep in mind, I set an appt. That's not the worst part. The nail tech cleaned under my big toe and gouged me, and it still hurts 3 weeks later. It's not infected or swollen, but my nail bed is tender and feels like it's on fire. I'm scared my toe nail nail is going to fall off. The polish does still look decent, so if you don't mind pain, this place may be okay for you. read more

Had an appointment made to get nails done with my son's girlfriend for her birthday. It was a nice day so I can understand a lot of people being out getting their nails done. We arrived at our appointment time and were told to have a seat. After waiting 30 minutes after our appointment time and watching people who arrived after us get called back, I asked the girl at the desk how long it would be and she said she didn't know and walked away. Another girl came up who I assume was a manger and I asked her how long. She also said she didn't know. I told her I can understand they were busy, but I made an appointment for a reason as I had other things scheduled after this appointment. She rolls her eyes at me and says "well we're a service business and sometimes we get behind". I'm not upset they were behind, I was upset with the unprofessional service and poor communication. I start telling her that's not what I was frustrated about and she kept interrupting me. It's obvious she has very poor customer service skills. I told her because she couldn't be courteous for the 10 seconds while I explained why I was upset, we'd be going some place else. read more

This place was decent in the beginning of its opening and has rapidly gone down hill since. It is so dirty the techs grab dirty tools from a dirty trunk that still had skin on the tools from the previous customer. GROSS!! They then shared a drill for the feet and passed it amongst themselves from client to client without washing or sanitizing the drill. The staff is rude and very very arrogant. This was probably the worst experience I've ever had at a nail salon! It's sad because the place is very beautiful and has alot of potential if they would practice sanitation and customer service. read more

What a disappointment! Staff there is not attentive. They are disorganized. You call 8 hours ahead of time to make an appointment for two and when you get there no one greeted us. I waited 15 minutes then tried to grab someone's attention to ask when will we be seated. Then took another 5 minutes to get my mother in law (mil) and I seated. Then, they tried to separate us to the opposite corners of the room bc one lady's table and equipment was on the other side. We said no thank you since we made an appointment together and want to be seated together. I'm coming from a 18 hour flight to visit family and you want to separate us? Sorry that makes no sense. When you usually make an appointment for two you are expecting to sit together. Then, waited another 5 minutes for them to figure out where we will be seated. They finally moved us to the other corner but the lady says "oh you can sit here and you can sit here" with two other customers between us. Sorry?! What part of being seated together did you not comprehend? So then, they sat us together in the two seats that were together among many other open seats so not sure what was so difficult. It gets better (sarcasm). We were getting no chip gel nails. No acrylic or nail extensions, just gel polish. My mil requested for no dremel tool to be used on her bc the technician started to clean the tool in front of her but she was not going to need that. Well the technician rolled her eyes and thought she was crazy for asking that and kept trying to convince her that it's fine, very unprofessional. When did it become that customers paying and requesting service were no longer able to decide for themselves what they wanted? It continues to get better (sarcasm). So then, I'm sitting there and the employees are talking to each other trying to figure out who is doing who's nails and going back and forth not knowing what they are going to do. By this time it is now about 35 minutes past scheduled time. Mind you, I'm here visiting family and we have dinner reservations as well. When I called earlier they said they couldn't do 4 o clock. They said after 4 they get really busy. We wanted a manicure and pedicure so the lady on the phone earlier said we can do manicures only at 5:30. So, we had already settled on a later time and cut some of the services we wanted so we could be accommodated. We decided it was just best to leave before more time was wasted and we already had an unpleasant experience. We told them it's okay, we are just going to go ahead and leave since they looked like they were struggling to help us. We'll make it easier on you guys and just leave. The staff looked at us with attitude. One of the girls said "omg really" with an annoyed look on her face. As we were leaving, customers were turning around and looking because the employees were talking and making comments. Again, just unprofessional, unorganized and unsanitary as well. Equipment and tools were not looking clean and scattered around on the tables when we got moved from table to table. If you haven't noticed, there are multiple nail salons on the same block. Max did a nice job on my no-chip manicure. However, there was no indication that the tools had been sanitized. Had he done it before my eyes or opened a sterile pack, I would have given the nail bar a higher rating. Some of these nail salons have gotten relax with sterilizing there tools. Should have read the reviews before I went in. I went there when they first opened and it was pretty good, so I stopped in again. They had raised the prices substantially - a regular mani-pedi cost as much as I paid for a no chip the last time I was there. The tech could not understand anything I asked. They only had a small fan to dry the nail polish. After sitting for 10 minutes after she finished, she said it was dry - it wasn't. It was smudged when I got out my credit card. I went to Gloss on a recommendation and the experience was border line discrimination. At first they told my girlfriend and I to wait for manicures. I had a stroke in early August and it really helps me to get my nails trimmed and hands massaged. A few minutes later my girlfriend mentioned that I had a stroke and I might need a little more attention. A younger man at the front desk went off and talked to the manager. He came back with the new story that they were really busy and we should come back at a later time or day. The vibe we were getting just felt wrong. So we left and went to Royal Nail Spa on 173 in Machesney Park. They never flinched, questioned my condition and even took the extra time to help me out. Customer is supposed to be of high priority. One of the managers looked at me in my eyes and completely ignored me as I was waiting at the front service desk with a question about waiting times. Didn't acknowledge me AT ALL just looked at me and walked away. I an now sitting in a different establishment whom pleasantly greeted me as I walked in the door. Worst Pedicure I have ever had. My sister and I went for what we thought would be a relaxing pedicure before going on vacation this weekend. Neither nail tech introduced themselves to me or my sister, they just started working. Did not offer us a drink, we had to ask for it. Usually I can expect a pedicure to take a minimum of an hour. We sat down shortly after 5:00, my sisters nail tech was ready to pain her toes by 5:28. the massage left ALOT to be desired. Very short and hardly touched my calves. After I received my massage with some type of body scrub, the nail tech did not wipe my legs with a warm towel or even try and rinse them in the pedicure bowl. Did not use any oil. left with sticky legs. At least my toes were painted well, I'll give them that. My sisters toes were not cut even at all. They also never asked us what level of pedicure we wanted or even shows us what they offered. My sister was quite shocked when her pedicure was $20 more than mine simply because she got no chip polish. Would NOT recommend. I won't be back. read more
