Loved every second of this place I called and asked if they had any openings for a blowout-they were closing in an hour and I was 10 minutes away. Yes! While she did okay with my hair (I'd rate her hair skills 3.75/5), the last two appointments I had with her, she had me double-booked with other clients which I did not appreciate. I was at one of the appointments for 5.5 hours for a highlight retouch, which is absolutely ridiculous. Another appointment for a blowout service was 3 hours. I was under the dryer for almost an hour while she worked on another client. While I completely understand wanting to maximize your income, it left me feeling completely undervalued as a customer and I won't be back. Tricia H. is an amazing hair stylist! Not only is she knowledgeable about hair health, but she can style both curly and straight hair of any texture. She is also comfortable with any length. I have curly textured medium-length hair. She has dyed, cut, flat-ironed, and given me a Keratin blow-out. She has also styled the hair of my teenage daughters. Gloss the Salon is actually rated a 3.5/5. I'm not quite a fan of Gloss YET and here's why. The good: 1.) I was able to get an appointment in on the LAST minute w/ Randi. 2.) I was offered water, ice tea or wine 3.) I was pleased with how the cut turned out for $50. Randi cut my thick, dense hair with scissors; no razors or texturing sheers involved with my cut! I find that many stylists like to use razors and texturing sheers with my hair as a "shortcut" so it was a great relief that Randi used scissors on my hair. 4.) Randi was a stylist in Vegas (not so much a good but more of a plus) but she happen to work at a salon I frequently came in for services (Vision Salon) 5.) Location is close to awesome places to eat 6.) They use and sell Keratase products :) The NOT so good: 1.) Location: Hope and pray before hand to whatever higher being you feel can get you a spot that isn't too far away or take you a long time to find something 2.) While the salon is very cute inside and they do a good job utilizing the space, it's a bit small (for my taste b/c it minimizes opportunities for an open floor plan). And I find the huge mirrors hanging with heavy chains kind of scary as I have anxiety that they'll fall off. 3.) This is the roughest blow out I've experienced. 4.) When I get my hair done in a higher end salon, the I expect my stylist to be balance their artistic vision with a client's wants. I didn't really feel there was that balance. I was hoping for more of an artistic vision. 5.) Although I do like my hair cut, I wish more weight was taken off (my bad for not communicating that more specifically), because with longer, thick hair, it's heavy! Overall, I had a pretty good experience. Minus, the not so good items, I can find myself becoming a regular here. read more

My hair is slightly complicated due to an "edgy" haircut that still hasn't quite grown out, combined with the fact that I have naturally fine blonde hair that is damaged from daily straightening and blow drying. With that said, my hair requires attention to detail and a skilled eye/hand. Gina is AMAZING, she not only listens to what I want but she understands what I want and does it perfectly. I trust her opinion and experience to make judgment calls but she is not one of those people that cuts off more than you asked for or gets carried away with their own vision. I called her and she fit me in last-minute and was very sweet and accommodating in doing so. Then when I was there, she listened to what I wanted and gave me EXACTLY that. What else could I want? Michelle is super focused on hair health (read: she won't try to push color on you) and will put the time in to get it absolutely perfect. I found being in her chair totally relaxing and enjoyed watching a professional at work - I've never had layers that swing like this! San Diego, your search is over.... The world's best hair stylist is right in Little Italy! I just had my hair cut and styled last night by GINA - the owner of GLOSS SALON and I am just thrilled. My hair is still gorgeous this morning because her blowout rocks! The cut is hands-down the best I've ever had. Gina took the time to ask about me; what I want my "look" to be before ever picking up the shears. She also went all through my hair to get a feel for its texture, etc. Next she asked me questions about my hair "issues" and what I struggle with each morning when stying it. AMAZING.... I don't think anyone's ever asked me that. She then proceeded to cut and style my hair into a look worthy of any red carpet anywhere (and I am picky, picky, picky). Gina is so sweet and the salon is just adorable! You'll be greeted warmly and offered something to drink. Nothing pretentious here - just a really sweet, relaxed vibe. Pandora playing in the background too. No parking issue this time but we all know Little Italy can be packed, so plan accordingly. P. S. I got my hair done today by Stephanie and boy what a ride! lol First off I came in with purple hair and I wanted it changed to teal. She told me that she could strip it out and get it there so we got started. Apparently the stripping process has 3 steps, we got through 1 and 2 and my hair had turned a really pretty bright blue. We figured we'd do the last step and then just add some green and be done. Well, after applying the last step it turned my hair back purple! While we were both amazed and annoyed, Stephanie just kept on going and we did it again. We stripped the color a second time, got the blue back (mostly) and then added the teal on top. It turned out amazing! For some reason my roots didn't want to take the color, but that's no fault of Stephanie, my hair is just weird; she offered to fix it for me at a later date (my choice I had places to be). My hair doesn't feel fried, and looks incredible. The products she used were gentle but got the job done. The atmosphere is friendly and accommodating, and even though it took nearly 7 hours to do my hair today I left feeling like I'd gained a friend not just a hair stylist. Stephanie truly enjoys what she does and it shows. I don't live here, I'm just visiting, but if I'm ever in San Diego I'll only be using her, and I'll make sure to recommend Gloss The Salon to all of my friends that end up here. :) Thanks guys!! read more

My poor, disgusting, and baby fine hair was beyond fried, destroyed by chemicals, heat, and extensions. I stumbled upon Gloss by chance, after visiting a very quiet, sterile salon above Influxx across the street. I walked in, asked Meghan about the tape in extensions, and the rest was history. She literally SAVED my hair. Plus, it looked fantastic, and the extensions look like my REAL hair. Before, I'd always have folks coming up to me to either fix my hair (my wefts were always showing), or politely whisper that they could see my weave. How tacky. Now I have folks coming up and asking how I keep my hair so long and healthy. I sometimes turn around, like, "You're talking to ME?" Fabulous. How cool is that!? i originally wanted to make an appointment with Sue but there is like a 3 hour wait so I said yeah I 'll take whoever is available. And luckily Kimberly was there and was able to take me. She was able to maintain the length of my hair which is great and she would ask you exactly what you want with your hair and she'll work on it. Lyndsey is pure magic! I decided to mix things up and get my hair dyed for the first time ever. To say that I was nervous is a serious understatement. She is the only one I let cut by hair because she always listens to exactly what I want and never cuts more that I am comfortable with so I figured for my first dye job she was the stylist for me. Although I lack knowledge of hair styling terms she walked me through the entire process. The very first time I made an appointment I asked for someone who knew how to work with thick hair. They set me up with Danielle. I couldn't have been happier! I've gone back to her every time and have always been satisfied with the results. She's very friendly and experienced. It's nice when you can sit down and ask to have your hair thinned out without being asked if you want layers OR having your hair viciously hacked out with a razor. Keely is simply the best. Not only does she make each and every visit comfortable and relaxing, she's great at what she does. I have brown hair with highlights and have had a really hard time in the past trying to find someone that can can do highlights without going too blonde. Usually the stylist ends up going too blonde and has to put a toner on it making the color, as Keely called it "muddy". Keely nails it every time. Whether I'm going a little lighter for the summer or keeping it a little darker for the winter she gets it perfect every time. Her haircuts are low maintenance so it doesn't take a lot if styling to do yourself and they last a really long time. To top it all off she's really fast at what she does.
