Today was my first time at Glow. My massage therapist was Lili and the experience was exactly what I needed! She was so friendly and welcoming. There isn't the usual receptionist to greet clients but that was fine as Lili came right out to greet me. Before beginning the massage, Lili checked in with me on what I was having issues with/what I would like to focus on in the massage. This part is the best; she actually made sure to focus on those parts! But she also made sure to incorporate my whole body into the massage and not just those specific areas the entire time. I love that. When the massage begin I could feel that Lili was very present and focused in the massage and not just poking me and fluffing around lightly. Her touch was purposeful; light and gentle at the right times while firm at others. She knew exactly where the sore spots were. She also incorporated some moves that I haven't had done before that felt amazing. My mom bod desperately needed and truly appreciated this healing massage. Update: I won't name names but I was deeply turned off by the masseuse when she offered me the same washcloth that she used to wipe my feet to wipe my body post massage. Notified management who apologized and noticed the masseuse. Just be aware of that- even the clean, expensive ones aren't as clean or hygienic as they seem. 3.5 Third time coming. The first two were with Kristin and I gotta say if you're gonna go to anyone- go to her but as w any massage be sure to state your preferences. For me it's the amount of pressure and oil used, and what you want them to focus on. Both times w Kristen I knew I wanted less oil because it made me itch and I came out feeling like I was a slip and slide human. I was gifted a prenatal massage by my sister that I was saving for my third trimester (when I knew I would need it the most!) and I loved it so much that I came back for another massage! Both my massages were with Ereene and she is by far the best masseuse I've had in the history of massages. My first massage was before I went on maternity leave so my back and shoulders were killing me from sitting in meetings all day. Ereene provides the perfect amount of pressure, the most relaxing environment and really knew where to focus on. She communicated well during and seemed to really know her stuff when it comes to muscles! My second massage was after my first week of maternity, still pregnant and luckily not working any more so my back wasn't hurting as much but we talked about how my left shoulder hasn't been feeling the best. She did a phenomenal job not only massaging it but helping me understand what might be happening in the muscles (sleeping on your left side, not having a supportive enough pillow). This is a late review, but better late than never. Back in December I had an AMAZING prenatal massage experience here. My partner booked it for me and unfortunately I don't remember the massage therapist's name but I had an amazing experience! It was especially awesome that they had evening appointments (I think my appointment was at 7:30pm). I highly recommend this place! Great ambiance, communication, and technique...everything was fabulous. Being pregnant is an amazing journey but sometimes it feels crappy. Amazing place that was literally in my backyard. I ended up getting only two massages here because I asked Ereene to help induce me, and I swear she did the trick (though I was also 10 days late at that point). I was fighting off having the doctors inducing. Who knows if it was her supreme skill, but it felt great and I think it did the trick! I had another masseuse here who was great too but I like hard pressure and Ereene had plenty to give! Had my first massage at Glow and this place is amazing! The space has such relaxing energy, beautifully designed, and special attention paid to lighting and details. Even the bathroom is super cute. Usually there is parking and it's close to several bus lines and not too far of a walk from BART too. Tara was my massage therapist and she was great! She checked in with me about what was hurting when I came in, how her pressure was, and also was careful about how much oil she used (she was great about not doing my face since I'm acne-prone). Was looking for a new local massage place in Oakland since I moved from across the country and get them regularly. I made an appointment online, but ended up getting many phone calls at really inconvenient times (I do have a job) about rescheduling the appointment. They finally caught me an hour before the appointment and honestly I was so turned off by the whole experience; the tone of the woman made it seem like it was really inconvenient to schedule an appt online in an open slot. This is the best place ever. I got a gift certificate from my bestie for a 75 minute prenatal massage, returned for a second massage, and have already booked my third. I've seen 2 different therapists, and they both had slightly different styles/focuses, but what has been consistent is that they don't shy away from giving you a real massage just because you're pregnant. It's not like all the other places where you're paying someone to just pat you gently on the back for an hour. I've been suffering with sciatica and carpal tunnel, and the treatments I've received have relieved so much pain and has helped me sleep through a couple nights immediately afterwards (unheard of in the third trimester, right?). What's even better is that I can still come back here when I'm not pregnant and enjoy all that Glow has to offer. Love Glow! I first went when pregnant last year and had several massages which were all amazing. I've since had two postpartum which were great as well. All the masseuses have been lovely and I like how private and comfortable the space feels. They've recently had to increase their prices significantly (attract more staff and pay them more) which I completely understand...unfortunately I won't be able to get massage there as often now. Very unpleasant experience at Glow with a massage therapist named "Koko" this past week. My husband was kind enough to purchase me a 90 minute massage due to all of my third trimester aches and pains, but I did not feel any better after my experience at Glow. -I did not receive the full 90 minute massage -I asked for more pressure and did not receive any -Was forced to have conversation before and after my massage that made me uncomfortable -Was asked for references after my massage even though it was not good -Was given a 15 minute "scalp massage" where I couldn't tell if I was even being massaged at all -Management reached out and offered a refund, but then proceeded to refund the gift certificate value as if I would want to return again I was considering going back or a second chance, but there are plenty of well equipped prenatal massage therapists in the area who have given me consistently wonderful experiences. It is clear that Glow cares very much about maintaining all positive reviews, but not all experiences here are positive. Will not be returning. read more

Just had a very relaxing 90 minute prenatal massage with Adelle. She was very calm, and thoughtful throughout the process. I highly recommend all pregnant mamas to give this place a try. it's easy to park and they have these motorized massage beds that help pregnant moms to move around. Update: again Gerri the masseuse is amazing. Customer service is subpar. The message from Sara is not accurate. First of all, she misspelled my name... It's true that I did book directly with Gerri for my massages, and I guess that's why I didn't realize their staff isn't very professional until I had a problem. I never really interacted with anyone else until I had this issue. I booked for a friend online (as a gift) and I accidentally choose the same day as my message. I was supposed to drive her and didn't want us both to get massage on the same day for practical reasons. I tried to change it online but was unsuccessful. That day I woke up really ill and tried to reschedule so I wouldn't drive there twice in one day and was told to send someone in my place and I said how I accidentally did book a whole different session for someone else accidentally. So I had no one to send in for my place- I didn't know a ton of pregnant people who needed a last minute massage. They would not honor that as a replacement because it was for another time- I know it's kinda outside the policy but was all done accidentally. I was never told that I can cancel and they would try to replace w someone to avoid a charge. Your records are inaccurate- they're inaccurate because the person speaking to me did not listen to what I was trying to explain. Based on my experience with Gerri, I would expect professional and respectful communication. Even if you say sorry we can't accommodate you, you can offer something like a discount for another massage- in total I bought 6 massages. I spent LOTS of money there. If I ever get pregnant again I'd unfortunately look elsewhere for a massage. And I can't say this enough that it's sad because Gerri is amazing. I WAS going to book a postpartum massage with Gerri but decided I didn't want to risk any drama. I had a pretty traumatic birth experience and the last thing I needed was risking my sanity. Could not be more satisfied with my experience today. I received a massage from Geri and it was one of the best massages I've ever had, including the massages I've had while not being pregnant! I remember having the worst sciatic pain while pregnant, swelling in my feet from traveling so much during my third trimester, back pain, difficulty sleeping well at night, all until I started seeing Ereene. I received prenatal massages from Geri throughout my last trimester of pregnancy and it was the best decision I had made for taking care of myself during the last few months of preparing for the baby. Geri has a gift of a healer and is amazing at what she does. I wasn't planning on writing a review for Glow, but they just sent me an email asking me for one. I had a tough pregnancy with pelvic separation. I can't afford any of their services, but my sister gifted me with the cranial sacral therapy. She paid for the service and I was the one who called and booked my session. I spoke to a gentleman and specifically asked for the cranial sacral therapy. Long story short, I get over there and the person they booked me with was not trained to perform the service. I came all the way from Pittsburg. I had to get a ride and an escort due to my pelvic separation. Needless to say, I was not happy. She offered to reschedule, but I was not about to wait another 2 months for an appointment and go through the hassle of getting myself there. I got a basic prenatal massage which was painful and uncomfortable. I would not recommend them based on the experience I had. read more

This review is for Kristin. I first saw Kristin when I was pregnant. The massage was amazing and the pillows they use puts you in the perfect position. You feel so comfortable and comfort is hard to come by in pregnancy lol so I really enjoyed it. She knew exactly what muscles to massage and after I felt so relaxed :) ... I also saw her after I gave birth which I highly recommend doing a week or so after labor. Labor does so much to our bodies and with all the pushing your muscles are bound to lock up. My post labor massage was the best! She use gentle cupping which really helped my muscles relax. I was so tense going into the massage but felt so renewed after. I have since gone to her several times postpartum because my back neck and shoulders ache a lot now from the constant holding and rocking I do with my baby, but after seeing Kristin all of the aches and pains go away and I have my full range of motion back. I had another massage by another masseuse there while Kristin was on vacation because my neck and shoulders had locked up but it didn't compare so I quickly booked another appointment to see Kristin when she returned. I had gone to another place in Alameda for quick massages here and there, but I knew this time I needed something a little more serious, so I decided to check out Glow. This place was wonderful! The location was great, I almost didn't see it because its in a neighborhood, but there was plenty of parking which made it less stressful. The atmosphere in side was very warm and beautifully decorated too! I found myself taking mental notes of the styling for my own place. As for the massage, it was definitely 5 stars. I had Ereene. She was very welcoming and attentive. She constantly asked if the pressure was okay, talked to me about where I wanted to focus the massage and she even gave me tips on how to strengthen my back and help reduce all of the knots I had in between massages. This is by far the best massage- let alone prenatal massage I've gotten. Extremely relaxing, reasonable for they offer and just amazing. Tsadae is a magic worker. I was recommended to her by a friend and have gone to her a few times since. Even though this place is so far from me, I make the extra hike to get here because she is so good. Specifically what I like are of course the therapist, the beds- so warm and comfy and that they take the time to really ask you how you're doing pre and post the therapy session. They don't accept tips!...that's another surprising thing, because in most massage places, you go in an expect to pay an extra 20%---but they specifically let you know that tips are not necessary but referrals are welcome. I think that's very genuine and hopefully means they pay their therapists well to begin with. I will keep going back ...pregnant or not :) read more

Glow! Oh Glow!!! Where to start? I love Glow. LOVE. It's seriously that good. Glow, hands down, was the best thing I did for myself and my son when I was pregnant. I went every two weeks throughout my second and third trimesters and blissfully melted into Hari's magic hands for 90 minutes (if you are lucky enough to see Hari, ask for the hip stretch--I am still craving it two years later). I also took advantage of Stephanie's at-home massage service three or four weeks after my son was born (I didn't even have to get dressed. I got up from the table, put on a robe, chatted with Stephanie a bit while I drank some water, and then went right in to nurse my son. Yes, please!). I also interviewed one of the post-partum doulas but ultimately did not need her service. The quality of Glow's bodywork is the best I have ever received (and I have received A LOT of bodywork over the years). That the practitioners get down on a (heated!) futon mat with you and your pregnant belly adds such a beautiful humbling dimension to the work and the rapport. I got tips for stretches and I learned about my changing body. The no-gratuity policy firmly established the patient/practitioner relationship and let me relax into the attention I received. That policy also helped me afford to get massages every two weeks. I genuinely felt cared for and cared about. Every Mama deserves to feel that way! read more

I received a 90 minute massage as an anniversary gift. Based on the great yelp reviews, I was really excited to come in and be pampered. Unfortunately, my experience was subpar. The massage was very superficial. I asked a few times if she would apply more pressure and while the pressure would be OK for a few minutes, it would relax back to a gentle pressure quickly. At times, it felt more slippery with over lotioned strokes. I suspect they are more accustomed to giving prenatal massages and treating their clientele with kid gloves. But I was booked for a non natal massage. The session ended with a complimentary facial. However, this entailed dropping a rather scalding hot towel on my chest and face! I can take heat but this towel was too hot and there were red marks on my chest and chin. It was definitely an abrupt way to end the experience. In hindsight, wished I scolded her more harshly but really I was upset by the session I just wanted to go home and put some aloe vera on my tender skin. She should have tested the towel or at least laid it slowly to see I responded. Instead, she just dropped it! read more

Ereene is such a great massage therapist. She has a knack for working out all of the pressure in my muscles and has a fantastic positive energy that helps you relax. She really is a blessing. I had my 2nd pre-natal massage here with Anastasia at 20 weeks of gestation. It was amazaballs (sometimes you need to make up a word to try to touch on how fantastic an experience truly was). I have had many massages, swedish, deep tissue, maxillofacial, etc over the years as I've been in chronic pain for over a decade and have a loving friend who is a masseuse and let me be his guinea pig for years and have found many fantastic body workers, besides, along the way. The session with Anastasia was blissful. It was the first experience ever being massaged on the floor instead of a tradition table, but it made zero difference. I felt the body work was very even over my entire body and she really did a fantastic job at working my trouble areas--particularly my calves which seem riddles with pain, cramps, and to be causing restless leg syndrome this pregnancy. It was such a relaxing experience. I had a late night appointment 745pm for 75minutes, if I could have slept over I would have; I was that relaxed and my legs felt fantastic for the first time in weeks afterwards. I immediately went home and booked my next appointment for two weeks out, but this time a 90 minute session. I can't wait. Parking can be difficult in the neighborhood, so leave yourself plenty of time. I usually park in the residential neighborhood behind Piedmont Ave. and leave myself time to walk. If you ever call a regular massage therapist and ask if they do pregnancy massage they will all say yes. But I've learned the hard way that it's worth going to someone who specializes in it therefore I highly recommend Glow! I've had two massages with Stephanie and have always left feeling relaxed and pampered. Your massage is done on a futon on the floor with correctly sized pillows to support you. This is so much better than trying not to fall off a normal massage table with a bunch of little pillows slipping out from under you! At one point I also considered having Glow's Doula Hannah assist my birth and interviewed her. Although in the end I decided to not have a Doula (mainly for financial reasons), Hannah has a ton of experience and is very knowledgeable. She also has lots of experience working in different hospitals around the Bay and can give you the inside scoop on how receptive each facility is to "alternative" birthing ideas. read more

I was one of the lucky ones who was able to get an appointment with Sara Lyon (mind you I made the appt about 6 weeks in advance). Anyway, I have three words to say about my experience: OH MY GOD! Sara was beyond amazing! It was the best massage I have ever experienced. I was about 32 weeks when I went in to see Sara and started having some lower back and hip pain. And being a 5'10" tall mama, I noticed that to accommodate for my growing belly, I was starting to hunch over a bit on my shoulders and therefore, having some strain on my neck and shoulders. Sara was amazing in massaging out these areas. The space is very quaint. Don't expect a Burke Williams or fancy smancy spa place. You walk in and immediately to your right there is a small room where Sara talks to you about how your pregnancy is going and where you are experiencing the most tension. Then she takes you back to a room in a back, which is very dimly lit (perfect!) and it has an attached bathroom. She explains the bed on the floor and has SO many pillows for added comfort. For all of you concerned about getting a massage on a mattress on the floor, rest assured, that it is SO comfortable. After you dress down and are laying on your side, Sara begins her magical work. I am beginning my 8th month of pregnancy and have been putting off getting a much needed massage. My husband bought me a gift certificate for Valentine's day for a 90 minute massage with Sarah, citing all of the rave reviews she's gotten on Yelp. These reviews really don't lie. I can honestly say that I've never gotten a better massage. Never. Pregnant or not pregnant! Sarah's touch is amazing. She is really focused on women's health and very knowledgeable of Chinese wholistic medicine. I couldn't help but feel that all of the massages I had gotten before were really nothing but gentle rub downs. Sarah works the body in a way that loosens tightness, expels tension, increases communication between the various parts of the body and stimulates better circulation. My baby was moving like crazy! She was loving it almost as much as her momma! I left feeling ache-free, relaxed and rejuvenated, I am definitely going back next month for one more massage before I give birth. My only regret is that I didn't find her sooner. My massage was excellent; I only wish I had gone back more while I was pregnant. The masseuse (sorry, I forget who specifically worked on me) was attentive and used just the right pressure. We did a quick consultation before and afterward and she gave me tips for some pain I had been experiencing. The fact that they don't accept tips is just another way they make the whole process stress-free. At 40 weeks, 5 days, I scheduled another appointment hoping it would get things moving. I ended up going into labor the night before my appointment. In a dazed pre-epidural state I called and left a message canceling my appointment. Turns out I may have called the wrong number, or left the message in the wrong voicemail box, because they ended up not receiving it. This place is seriously heaven sent. I'm on my third pregnancy, and all the lovely aches and pains showed up much earlier than before. I've had prenatal massages during my previous pregnancies, and they've all been depressing - my knots are a fan of deep tissue massage, and anything else feels like a waste of time. So I was beyond thrilled to find Glow Massage. I've seen Gerri and Ereene, and they were both amazing to work with. I went ahead and purchase a package, as I'm gimping around like an injured Godzilla at this point, and can't wait to go back. By month 7 of my pregnancy, I had really slowed down my workouts and fitness related activity. I started to feel a little stiff, and really wanted someone to get in there and move my muscles (and fat!) around. Booked a massage with Emiliana. It was FANTASTIC. Before the massage she spent time asking me how my pregnancy was going, and if there were any specific things I wanted her to work on. Prenatal massages are where it's at. Even though it was impossible for me to get comfortable in my own bed, the specialized table and pillows they have at Glow made me feel as cozy as my pre-pregnancy days! My only regret is that I didn't book massages once a month for the last 4 months of my pregnancy.
