I had been searching for something to do over the weekend, and came across info for the play. I thought I had found all the performing arts places in and around my area, but had never heard of this place, and sure enough, not even on Yelp yet. So I had to go check it out! The building is in the small city of Pelzer. It is an old but well kept Auditorium (don't you love plays preformed in buildings with history?) It had lots of free parking out front and was easy to get to. All the seats seemed great, but I did snag the front row for the same price as any other seat, which is awesome! I mean $10 to see a live production, that you can tell they really put their time, and poured their heart into - It was a great night. They have a good balcony area too if you prefer to see it from above. The crowd had a good energy, I knew I was in for a treat, especially when I walked in and saw the set. Everyone involved in getting that together needs a serious pat on the back. There were several very young actors in this particular play with very big parts, and honestly, since it is a community theater, I can't say I expected much. Boy, was I wrong! They did such an amazing job, real talent here! Everyone really blew me away, there were no weak links. A very amazing story, preformed here in the South (where the message still needs to get across sometimes). I'll be back to check out more plays here! The acting was excellent. Everyone in the cast kept character even when in the background. The main cast was powerfully on target and very believable and enjoyable. The supporting cast was able to bring the whole stage to life. Did i mention how much I enjoy it? Lastly, all the voices were powerful and right on key. I wish we would have known of this theater these many years of us visiting Greenville. If you can catch a production...do it. You will get your money's worth and leave with a smile. It was outstanding. This production was a first ever stage screenplay written based on the C.S. Lewis Narnia character. I was amazed at the quality of the production and in particular the puppetry and the intricate scene changes. Having seen productions on Broadway as well as in Los Angeles and Toronto and even the traveling Broadway series a our local Peace Center, I can say that the Logos production can proudly stand side by side with these venues, losing nothing in terms of the production, execution and talent. The facility and seats are different, of course, but I cannot say enough how impressed we were. Highly recommended and very well done.

Well who knew? I had heard of the Younts Center but never visited there until today. Our younger…read moredaughter took us to a performance of "Groovin'" this afternoon. The Center is remarkable...sleek, clean, sophisticated, well maintained. There is ample parking right on the site.The seating is comfortable and easily located. There is a concession area selling soft drinks and some alcoholic beverages. Upon entering, we were greeted by delightful, fun, friendly volunteers who seemed genuinely glad to have us there! They were cordial and helpful and at the end of the performance, they were truly interested in whether or not we had enjoyed the musical. Some of the volunteers were dressed in attire reminiscent of Sha Na Na and poodle skirts, all to enhance the theme of 50's to 70's music. The performance was excellent. The numbers were rollicking and the energy level exhibited by the performers was over the top. We were encouraged to dance, sing, and participate. This was an uplifting, "get your groove on" kind of event and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Afterward, the entertainers were in the lobby to receive our accolades and visit with us. Such a nice touch after knocking themselves out for two hours to entertain us. This was the last performance of this particular show but I'm impressed enough with the Younts Center for the Performing Arts that I'll be checking their schedules to return!

SMALL TOWN, BIG SOUND!…read more Tonight we had tickets to see a performance of First Impressions performed by the Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra at the Younts Center For Performing Arts. The Center is named for Melvin and Dollie Younts who largely financed the recent renovations of the center. This center was actually an old high-school that has been undergoing renovations for the past three years. It is now a beautiful entertainment venue with very comfortable seating for 416 attendees and great acoustics. My husband and I arrive very early to get the lay of the land and to pick up our "will call" tickets. We were able to access the building at 6:30 but would not be seated until 7:00 for the 7:30 show. In the meantime, we just hung out with the locals and learned a lot about the local area. Fountain Inn has a population of 9,000 residents. They have a small business district that consists of locally owned restaurants that all seem to close down by 9pm, (We tried!). They have just cleared the way for their first chain restaurant, (McDonald's) which will be coming soon. Woo Hoo! I bet the local kids are super excited! We met a couple of the ushers who regularly assist at the venue and they were very impressed by the fact that we were from the Atlanta area and repeatedly thanked us for visiting. They were just so appreciative that we would come to their town when there are much larger venues available. Good music is good music and size does not matter! Tonight's show was conducted by Dr. Michael Moore. As I was enjoying the performance of Beethoven's First Symphony, I actually wondered if there really is such a thing as a bad classical performance. If so, I have never experienced it. The music always transports me to a place of relaxation where I imagine that I am listening to a beautiful score or a flawless professional recording. The second half of the show was a bit more dramatic and featured the very talented trombone artist, Wes Lebo. It was a very nice show and perfectly balanced show and an enjoyable evening. We were surprised when it ended and were left wanting more. It seemed really short to us because we are simply accustomed to major shows and productions that last for at least two and a half hours. We do realize that this is a small town that runs on a different clock. Always leave them wanting more! A performance at the Younts Center is the perfect activity for date night. However, if you want to try one of the local restaurants, you will want to eat first and then attend the performance. I can't imagine how well these workers wash their hands. I thought it was also odd I got the tickets online and I had a QR code. I still had to wait in line to print my tickets to show them?? They have 3 workers working in the customer service area not doing anything but being on their phones. Lazy and disgusting. The seats in the movie theatre were constantly squeaking everywhere which was super distracting. Before all this I got popcorn and drinks at the concession stand and they didn't give me a receipt and I had to ask for one which was also sketch.

Wanted to take the time to write a kind review towards this ballet school…read more The lead teacher Val has decades of experience as a performer and trained in Russia at one of their art schools and also did 8 years of university study. He's very knowledgeable about ballet history which has been really insightful to learn about. He's someone who is really passionate about ballet and it's heritage and getting new people excited about dance. The style is very classical ballet and traditionally Russian with strong roots to origins of ballet. As teacher, he's noticeably thoughtful about each member of the class and adjusting his teaching to the students there each day. It's very nice to see such attentive teaching as a dancer. Even though I've had a lot training, I feel I'm learning and improving and gotten great opportunities at this studio. Val can be strict at times, but is also very warm-hearted and wants to help everyone improve their skills. He thoughtfully makes parts for everyone in the shows and starts the next show season by having people fill about their desired type of roles and keeps stock of that. I hope more people will come dance at this unique studio. It's smaller, but gives a lot of opportunities for getting personalized attention in being taught or private lessons. I'm really enjoying taking classes here and the chill vibes.
