He uses vague language as to what exactly the scope of his work will cover. I tried multiple times, but failed to get him to spell out whether his price included what I had asked him to do. He throws in a "base price" at you for "what HE wants to do" but not what YOU asked him to do; then he wants to charge you extra for this and extra for that. Don't waste your time. Tree service companies are dime a dozen and there's no need to deal with unethical people.

A few weeks later, a tree that we didn't even know was a problem came down during a microburst here in Arlington. We called Zak and he quickly came back out to see the damage, and revise the estimate (as we were now looking to completely remove a couple trees that looked at risk of falling). 48 hours later Zak and team were at our house, introducing us to the team, scaling our trees (they are "free climbers," so they don't use a bucket truck), and making quick work of the entire job (three trees removed, and one large oak tree trimmed). I would recommend Northern Boston Tree Service in a heartbeat - they even very neatly stacked much of our wood for us in our shed for firewood (and some neighbors got free firewood as well).

Went with Lopez Landscaping since they had the smaller equipment and manpower to get the job done. The tree was quickly removed but it was a 3 star maybe 3.5 star experience because of the additional work needed to coordinate everything. The good: - competitive quote and they were able to come by quickly to assess the work - flexible in bringing equipment that worked with tight openings - main tree removal was done in 5 hours - removed paver stones so they wouldn't be damaged by machinery - friendly and professional. They accommodated a special request to cut a section for a table The bad: - rescheduling was a huge pain. We had to go back and forth for 3 weeks and I had to proactively follow up to confirm if they were coming - unable to grind the stump as part of the initial quote so had to pay another $400 for them to come back with a different machine - never got an invoice despite asking for one multiple times To summarize, this seems to be a nice family business that has experience removing trees quickly. However, it doesn't appear there is a back office that keeps everything organized so you're going to have to do a lot of work to stay on top of things.

Ultimately, the job we agreed to with contract was not done to completion, in spite of the assistant's insistence that it was. The owner was not on the job EITHER day and this is important. While the crew came back to attempt to complete the original job ( we appreciated that!), the owner was not there. The result was that the job is currently STILL not what we agreed upon. The owner is not willing to return to finish it. Caveat emptor...just know that if the job is not done according to agreement, you will have trouble reaching the owner and it will not be made right. We really wanted to have a great experience!

Due to the lack of daylight, they had to come back Tuesday to finish, grinding the stumps and cleaning up. They worked very well together and efficiently. The price was great for all they did! On the day of the job, Rudy and Marlin worked tirelessly for 3 1/2 hours and got a tremendous amount done - trimming multiple hedges and bushes, cutting back an almost dead lilac, power washing the patio (it looks as good as it did 15 years ago when it was installed), cleaning moss, etc. off the garage roof (hadn't been cleaned since I got the house 30+ years ago), cutting up and removing a fallen branch, and power washing a basketball backboard that I wasn't even sure could be reached.
