After going to the location in San Marcos, I can tell you that I will only be going to this location. Matthew made my experience so welcoming, so caring and honestly very informative on all the products. I was looking for a more natural/vegan-based pre-work out and he knew exactly what to provide to me after having a very pushy experience at another location. He told me exactly what was in this product and knew this is the best natural product that he would be comfortable selling to his customers. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't know what to buy and I am so happy I encountered him and knowingly that this is a family owned GNC. This was one of the worst, most uncomfortable experiences I have ever had while shopping. I never write reviews for anything, but I just had to for this one. I walked into the store with the sole intention of buying a protein shaker bottle for my boyfriend and was greeted by Travis. He immediately asked me a ton of questions and became very pushy about getting me to buy various products in the store. I told him that I wasn't interested in buying anything else, but he continued to try to pressure me into buying more. I had to tell him "no, thanks" about 6 or 7 times. It was clear that he was trying to take advantage of the fact that I didn't have much knowledge about the products in the store. When I finally got 5 seconds to shop and look around by myself, I look to the side to notice that he has just been standing there staring at me the whole time. So weird! Travis made me so uncomfortable and when I finally became more assertive about only wanting to buy the bottle, he became very short with me as he checked me out. Not to mention, the second clerk wasn't wearing a mask at ALL...in the middle of a pandemic. Long story short, I will never go back there and honestly I suggest that you shop elsewhere, especially if you're a woman, as I think the situation would've been much different if I were a guy or had been with my boyfriend. read more

The GNC that's never open. No matter if I come here at 11, Noon, or 1pm this location has a back in 15 minutes handwritten sign in the door. To the management: schedule your people less hours so the break schedule can be broken up if you're looking to save a buck, or schedule more than one person to cover the store during lunch hours? When do you think people are available? At lunch or after work. When people are going to your store between 11-1 they are on their lunches and therefore in a hurry. I came here on Sunday evening at 5:45 (knowing they were closing at 6:00) just to grab some protein quickly for the week. The employee who was working steered me away from my first protein choice (Quest) and suggested a GNC brand. It was $10 cheaper so that was great. He said if I tried it and didn't like it within 30 days, I could return it as long as I had a receipt. He did make a point to remind me and the other guy in the store that they were closing shortly. We weren't browsing by any means; we were both clearly getting our protein and wrapping up. It bugged me a tad, but not enough for me to not return. They have vitamins, supplements, protein bars, protein powders, BCAAs, fat burners, etc. Good selection of items. I just have to remember that everyone has different tastes, fitness and supplement needs, and different ideas of what works and what doesn't so do your own research. read more

There are times when you receive the most comforting experience from service, and it's not from a waiter, hostess, or even a manager. It was from a health supplement store associate. She was delightful. I came in with the intent of buying whey protein without any help and with no service because with my research and my stubbornness, also a "No don't talk to me" attitude, I wanted my experience laconic as possible. But I was bombarded with other products. And I was curious. This woman. This nice helpful woman. Concentrated her efforts with me. I asked questions. She gave answers. Nothing biased. I've avoided gnc for probably 4-5 years, I hated going to the store and having their GNC brands pushed on me by un-knowledgeable sales people who just wanted to meet sales quotas. So I was pleasantly surprised when I Walk into this store and had a complete different experience, The guy that helped me out whose name I don't remember because I'm terrible with names really knew his stuff, he took the time to answer my questions and recommended a couple supplements that i was already looking at so i know he was legit. The prices at this location were comporable to body building.com and they price match them too. He told me it was a franchise store wich explains the night and day difference with other gnc stores. read more

I've been the plenty of GNCs but this by far is the worst experience I have. Every single one tries to talk to you into a new product and I don't mind that at all, have gotten some great tips from them, so I love GNCs but anyways at this particular one I walk in and the guy greets me and asks me what brings me in. I reply oh just wanted to pick up the new quest bar. He responds disgusted " you know we have better protein sources then quest bars right" I said yeah I know but I just want to try the new flavor. Then he rolled his eyes at me and had an attitude while he rang up my quest bars. Look dude you can disagree with what I bought but don't show it! Terrible customer service. I came to pick 10 bottles of Theanine. I saw Amanda's name on the previous reviews and I have to agree: she is very helpful! The store only has 2 bottles but she helped me look up all nearby stores to see their inventory. Unfortunately most of them only had one or two and they are all over the places. I went in looking for some protein and was not sure if I was going to get any really. I don't see any I liked but the guy who works there Juan helped me out to find something. He wasn't pushy like how other nutrition stores are which was probably what sold me to actually getting anything. He came by to check if I needed help and then saw me comparing some whey proteins and he droped some knowledge on some things I didn't know and sold me on a hydrolized whey. I haven't been a huge GNC person, since there's Amazon and all, but I received a coupon in the mail (from the Get1Free marketing source) so why not give it a try? My boyfriend and I went it to get Muscle Pharm Combat Protein Powder, while we were greeting by Matt. He automatically was disgusted by us wanting Muscle Pharm and immediately said that there are betting proteins than Muscle Pharm. We both love the company (Muscle Pharm) and want to support it, so we didn't get a different brand unlike what he suggested. When we asked if they had the 4lb container, he said no but the Vista or Escondido location might. We asked if he could see if they had it and he said he couldn't because they weren't in his territory or region. So we had to leave and call the other stores to see if they had them (seriously dude-we were the only ones in the store and you couldn't call and provide decent customer service ?!) Anyways, the other locations didn't have the larger container so we went back in and got the smaller one they did have. I told him I had a coupon and he tried charging us $50 when it was listed for $40 (non-gold member price since we don't usually shop here) & he gave us attitude about it. When I reminded him I had a coupon, he didn't seem thrilled & wasn't knowledgable about the coupon or any marketing this location has been participating in. Overall, stick to wherever you're currently getting your protein from and don't come to this store/location. read more
