Love the kombucha on tap (which I saw from across the street)! I've yet to experience a place (in…read moreLos Angeles) that has it on tap and SO glad to have stopped by this cute shop. I was in the area, picking some things up *wink, wink - across the street is Main Street MJ* and decided to stop by this local health market. Unfortunately, it was closed... BUT then the owner, Chris was kind enough to let us in! I explained we were visiting, which led to him showing us around his store and free samples of kombucha! I got a growler full of delicious and healthy kombucha to wash down all the unhealthy food I've been eating during my MDW stay, lol. Such a variety of things at Arnada Naturals! If you're a local, then it's definitely a must for you to pick up some supplements here :)

Wow! So, incredibly rude customer service…read more I was in the area and don't know anything about the store. So, I called in to ask a few questions. The little boy who answered the phone was incredibly rude and condescending! When I asked Arnada Naturals sold food such as veggie burgers or gluten-free bread, etc., he said no. Then, he said, "well, we do have some frozen gluten-free bread." I asked a couple more questions about finding quality food in the area, and he dodged the question. I asked, "well what kind of food do you sell?" Him: "mainly healthy snacks." We had a very short exchange and before I could ask another question, he quickly got off the phone and said there were customers in front of him. He never said, "is there anything else I can help you with?" or "thanks a lot for calling, I hope to see you sometime." or "stop on in." Nothing like that, at all!!! Customers in front of him were probably his 'friends.' Pffff. Go service your own rude kind. Or, well 'un-kind.'

Happened up People's Food Co-op after making a wrong turn. It's one of the things I love about…read morePortland, you can be driving through a neighborhood and then happen upon a market or store you never heard of before. Since it was my first time, I didn't become a member, just wandered about to see what they carry. In support of sustainability and buying just what you need, they have bulk grains, nuts, seeds, and spices. Produce, milk, eggs, cheese, cereals, healthier versions of packaged mac&cheese, rice and noodle dishes, and other pantry items. They don't sell meat Since they are a vegetarian and vegan market. Specifically, I was looking for puffed quinoa, but they did not carry it. No one seems to! On this day, the adjacent parking lot was in use by their Wednesday Farmer's Market. It was easy to find parking on the street.

Summertime rolls...Jane's Addiction harmony in my head…read more On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People's Co-op. I lived walking distance from People's Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service. This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People's Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It's the return and went to People's Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer's market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.
