During the meet-and-greet, Erica took the time to get to know Kira and her routine and preferences. For example, Erica asked about Kira's favorite toys, and where she might hide. When I am away, Erica sends daily text updates and pictures, which puts my mind at ease. When I return home, Kira is happy and relaxed. The litter box is clean, and her food, and water fountain are full. Erica's reliable, attentive, and loving care make my trips much more enjoyable because I don't have to worry about the care Kira is receiving. I would definitely recommend her to other pet owners as Eric cares for Kira as if she were her own! And that is hard to find!

The good news is -- my dog was still alive when we returned from a cruise. Stephan provided in-home care in our home the greater Palm Springs area while we were away. Because our dog appeared to be okay, we give 2 stars ("it could have been better") instead of 1 ("Not good"). (Frankly, I'm being generous). That's the good news. The bad news is: * Our home was pristine when we left. It was dirty when we returned home. Filthy, really. Off-white rug was strewn with lawn debris and a visible track of foot traffic and dirt appeared where it had never been before between the sofa and the back door. The kitchen, where cooking had occurred, had not been wiped up, dishes in the sink. The sofa was disheveled and 'lived-in' with an odor that required steam cleaning to remove. Our ordinarily pristine home was in general disarray in every room, and the house emitted a mysterious, but pungent smell. There appeared to have been no attempt whatsoever to clean up his own mess or to straighten the house in anticipation of our return. * We came home a couple of hours earlier than expected to find not only a home we had to re-clean in order to resume normal life, but multiple windows and doors open and the A/C on (presumably to air out the mysterious stench). * The cost for this service, requiring up-front payment, was nearly double what others charge in the area, but we (perhaps stupidly) believed the many 5-star ratings. We did not receive 5-star service. * The pre-prepared and measured food for our dog's daily meals was only partially consumed. * Our housekeeper came by at her scheduled time (by accident, forgetting we had cancelled her visit during our trip), but was not able to enter since no one answered the door, despite the petsitter telling us that he 'never left the house' or our dog alone. * Our dog, who is normally very friendly and approachable, appeared skittish in photographs during our trip -- tail down, ears back, avoiding rather than approaching and playful. I noted it during one text exchange with the petsitter and was told that 'this dog is NOT scared.' I beg to differ. I know my dog. * The patio plants, which we agreed would be watered daily (desert), were bone dry and wilted when we arrived, requiring immediate attention, although the hose was stretched across the lawn, presumably from some earlier use while we were gone. * In addition, the petsitter had many demands for his own comfort and convenience, which were 100% provided. The same courtesy was not returned to us, even though we discussed very clear expectations for both our dog and our home prior to our departure. * Our planned departure for a cruise was delayed for about an hour because the petsitter locked himself out of his car in the street, requiring a plan to avoid having his car towed. We allowed him to park in our garage vs. the guest parking lot. Rather than making our departure and trip less stressful, we found ourselves being more stressed because of the petsitter's own challenges, both before and during the trip and especially after. We had several conversations and a couple of site visits prior to the trip to introduce Stephan to our dog and to clarify the assignment(s). I wrote a detailed list of Q&A to guide any questions that might have arisen, including providing multiple vets and emergency contacts. I had reservations about some of my observations pre-departure, but we had already paid a non-refundable deposit of $500 and we were out of time to arrange anyone else. At a cost of $1500 per week for housesitting/pet sitting, I expected far better and more and got substantially worse and less than what we had discussed and reasonably expected. I'm just glad our dog was generally okay. Hence, 2 stars instead of 1. I wish I could report a 5-star experience and recommend this company and sitter to others. Unfortunately, I cannot.

However, the second time it was a little less consistent with the caretaker - who was not either person scheduled the first two times we used the service. This most recent time, during a 9 day service, 5 different people were assigned to come into my home to care for my cat. When I asked about this, Marcy said they use a team approach and clients need to be aware that they can make changes at any time to the service provider. When I asked if I could receive communication ahead of time about these changes, she stated that I was not a good fit for their service and they would no longer accept service requests from me. Mainly because I asked for communication about who is going to be coming into my home. That is very unprofessional to not be willing to communicate with a client about the service provider who will be caring for your pet and coming into your home. This company assumes that every client would allow several different people whom they have never met into their home without clear communication about this plan or the providers. And if you ask for advance notice for communication, you are rejected from their service. USE THIS COMPANY WITH EXTREME CAUTION if you are concerned about the people who enter you home and if you like to have open communication with your provider. ADDENDUM: I am writing this after reading Marcy's response to my initial review- I was informed prior to our trip that there would be one individual providing service while we were out of town. While we were out of town, I began to receive feedback from several different service providers about the care they provided for my cat-- BUT- without any communication from Marcy or anyone at the company. Upon our return I asked about this because I was expecting one provider and she said that our provider had an emergency so that she found different people to cover. What I said-- and I do not believe there any attitude to this response- was that she or someone should have contacted me to inform me that there was an emergency/change of plans. I never met any of the individuals who came into my house - was not even told that this was an option prior to signing up with this service. My issue with this was the communication between Marcy and ourselves about the provider for our cat's care. And when I asked if communication would be able to occur in a situation like this if we use their service again, she said we were not a good fit and would not accept any service requests. I cannot imagine any person not wanting to know who was entering their home and to be informed when someone unexpected was going to be entering their home. Again- I urge EXTREME CAUTION in using this company if you would like to have good communication and if you would like to know who is entering your home when you are out of town.

She is also very understanding and accommodating when I need him walked longer (30 minutes) or at a different time of day. In order to not be charged for a cancelled visit, you need to provide at least 24 hours notice, which is sometimes impossible because, hey, life happens. I understand they have a schedule to work around, but I wish there were 1 or 2 "freebies" for cancelling with less than 24 hours notice (or at least only charge half for 12 hours notice). That being said, I know my dog is in great hands while I am at work, which is extremely comforting. I would recommend Wagabout to anyone who is looking for a dog walker in Bethesda or surrounding areas!

Every booking, every pet, every time: more signatures and "agreements" than a mortgage closing. Somewhere there's a lawyer who's never met a dog and decided the real threat to this business is the guy who's paid them loyally for three years. You carefully fill out the entire grooming form online, pick every option -- then show up and they shove a paper copy across the counter to sign the exact same thing again. And after all that paperwork, they still claim they don't have the phone number they've had on file for three years and called me on before. Let's put this in perspective. I can order dinner to my door in two taps -- Reorder, Apple Pay, done. A stranger drives hot food across town on the strength of my thumbprint. But dropping off dogs these people have known for three years apparently requires a signing ceremony and a fresh liability waiver every single visit. In 2026, that's not caution. That's a business that's forgotten how to trust its own customers. And then there's the membership -- the crown jewel of contempt. They took a system that worked and actively torched it. Gone are the daycare credit packs: fair, flexible, buy-what-you-need, the way a business treats people it respects. In their place, a pricier monthly "membership" that auto-drafts your card whether your dog walks through the door or not, with no rollover for the days you paid for and never used. Read that again: you pay, they keep it, your dog gets nothing, and they call it a perk. It's not a membership -- it's a standing withdrawal from your bank account with a bow on it. It punishes the exact people who kept this place in business: the regulars whose lives don't run on a fixed weekly schedule. Some months my dogs come once, some months five times, because that's how actual life works -- and this program is built to make sure I lose either way. It doesn't serve pets. It doesn't serve owners. It serves a spreadsheet, and it treats every loyal customer as a recurring charge to be maximized rather than a person to be valued. It is, top to bottom, the most openly hostile "loyalty" scheme I've ever been asked to fund. When customers spend more time signing forms and fighting your billing than petting their dogs, you're not a pet resort -- you're a law firm with a kennel attached. Take your pets somewhere that still remembers what the word "customer" means.
