Ended up here on a whim with some friends and honestly loved it. Dark, no-frills, a little chaotic in the best way. Pool tables, strong drinks, good energy, and absolutely no pressure to perform. It's refreshing to be somewhere that doesn't care who you are or where you usually go. read more

Very fair prices....when you can get service. They need to hire or train staff that are customer service oriented and friendly and dump the people behind the bar that ask ''what do you need?". The poor service is the primary reason why I have not returned. read more

Shame on this place.. charging a $3.00 per drink service stating it is a holiday charge. What is funny is that this was today.The day after fourth of july and they were charging three dollars extra per drink. I hardly ever go to this bar and now will never go.Because I think it's ridiculous to pay $3.00 extra per drink the day after a holiday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. When there was hardly anybody in the bar. So tacky and so disgusting and the drink wasn't even good. read more

We stopped in to kill a little time before going to the other place. We went to they had drinks. I had a couple steps, but I ended up just drinking water to feel better. It was a fun place. It was quite busy. The music was great. they have a pool table they have outside so you can smoke if people do smoke. The vibe is great. We got a large table for all of us to sit and just talked and hung out and then more friends came to celebrate which was awesome and then we left, but it was nice. We got seats. Everybody was smiling and having fun and enjoying the music and drinks. Thank you for great service. Everybody was really nice and the bartenders. Always a great time here. Lots of beer to pick from and a lot of games available to play. Don't expect anything fancy, as this is a true dive bar and that's why we love it. The service isn't always fast, but the memories made here last. read more

Local here, I used to go to goat hill pretty often... probably wont anymore after the horrible experience I had last weekend. Recently got laid off and went to blow some steam off with my boyfriend and room mate, we ordered a few drinks and the bar tender with long hair looks at me when I was trying to order more and said I didnt tip him with a nasty look so he took every one else's order...... I waited 30 minutes there and he wouldnt even look at me after. I understand people live off tips but I found it super disrespectful and highly inappropriate... it gets worse.... when I realized he was being a douche I went to the other side of the bar and he saw so he told the other bartender (he was on the bigger side) managing that area something and pointed at me. That bartender never got my order and I waited again for a while until the woman bartending finally got my order. Im so sad and kind of traumatized by what happened because I love goathill and usually staff is nice but I dont know what happened this time, maybe because there was so many people his ego was higher than his height??? read more

It's the definition of a longstanding dive bar. It's been here for 55 years so it's a classic. It's known for all their beers on tap, but it's also a full bar with any option of cocktails. The service is fast and friendly and the prices are great during happy hour. read more

As much as I love the place here and the vibe. But this is the dirtiest place I have ever been to. I've been to gas station restrooms that were pristine compared to this. I would rather pay triple the price to never see that restroom again. The price of the drinks were not remotely comparable to the nastiness of the environment you are in. Our bill, over $100, I would imagine they would at least mop or something once a quarter. Also, considering there is food. Is this even okay with the USDA? I feel nasty drinking anything from here. Disgusting. Staff is nice though :) read more

Lots of beers on tap. Got the colors light and it was crisp. Bartenders addressed meas soon as I came in and it was a little crowded. That was amazing. Eagles and 49ers were playing so the crowds was having a good time read more

What did my eyes see last night? The people watching here on a Sunday evening is truly unmatched. People arrived, as if from outer space, in bizarre outfits and way, way too drunk for 9pm. There was a man in a mullet smoking indoors. There was a velour tracksuit. There were girls shrieking in the bathroom, standing on the toilets to take pictures of each other above the stalls. The music was too loud (hope you like drake!) and the lights are so bright it kind of feels like an upside-down world CVS. But the drinks are cheap and various, the bartenders are nice, and I was totally entertained by the scene. We have a charming local legend in Goat Hill Tavern, I fear. read more

Way too overcrowded. They let just about anyone inside. I appreciate the strict security at door. They thoroughly check every lady's bag and all gentleman's waistband. 100% made me enjoy being inside knowing it's a very safe space. I believe they serve some food until a certain time. The bathrooms were my favorite because they were stocked on paper and soap. 2 things that are crucial yet always forgotten. Aside from that, drinks were great and bartenders were attentive. They also allow vape and cigarettes indoors. read more

I was there a few times for Meetup events. I honestly really loved it and made new nerdy friends. Bunch of Indians. Meh.. I'm gonna go there again and meet some hot and young sexy girls so I can date and mate with. Overall, I really enjoy this place. The beer was awesome. read more

Pretty cool spot. Came here for HH after work with some coworkers and ordered a few drinks. Lots of indoor decor to see. Staff cool as well. They have bar games and a great selection of microbrews. Since I'm not an expert I just tasted a few from my coworkers. Lots is street style furniture, mounted stuff animals,posters and eclectic decor. Will come back again soon. read more

I'm pleased to report Goat Hill Tavern is still going strong and is still the great place it's aways been. The GOAT (not you LeBron) founded in 1968 is a bona fide Costa Mesa institution. Legend has it that back in the day Newport Beach snobs referred to Costa Mesa as Goat Hill. Orange County has a lot of great bars, and the GOAT is one of the best. I will say, though, many of the great dives in Orange County are going by the wayside, but not the GOAT. It's full bar but beer is the thing with roughly 144 taps. Too many of them are devoted to IPAs, but that's just me. I hate IPAs. Pro tip ask for a tray of peanuts. They are good, and you can throw the shells on the floor to your heart's content. All in all it's a fun place with a chill mostly locals crowd. The cool kids park in the back. Cheers! . read more

Can not support a bar whose owners steal tips from the bartenders. The owners won't pay to keep you safe either even though there has been shootings, drugs, and knives. They raise prices on busy weekends and holidays. This bar is a lawyers dream because they are always under lawsuits. Better , safer and much cleaner bars out there. read more

We try to come here every Thursday for there famous pint night and not to mention their "founders hour" which is HALF OFF ALL DRINKS! Then 7pm-8pm is HALF OFF ALL IPA's!!!... c'mon doesn't get better than that! In addition to that everyone including the security is extremely friendly and makes you feel welcome. The vibe can be chill/laid back during the week but don't get it twisted Friday night and Saturday night; it's a PARTY! DJ is set up, bartenders fast and efficiently serving while making some nice small talk. I want to especially give a shout-out to JOE! My personal favorite friend(bartender). SUPER XENOPHOBIC BAR. I can't lie I was just excited to have a night out and then I witnessed a 23 year old get in to the bar but his mother from the UK (who is obviously over 21) get denied because she didn't have her PASSPORT on her even though she had her ID. i've also read other reviews on this topic. It was her last night in the states and she was so excited to just have a drink with her group. I never leave reviews but I took the time to write this just because of how pathetic this place is. read more

Goat Hill is always a good time. For the beer lovers out there they have a huge selection of beers. Strong drinks lots of seating in one of the best dive bars in Costa Mesa. They have a separate room with pool tables and Foosball that's also their smoking room. Yuck and it's connected to the Blvd which is more of a lounge. The ambiance was so cool with lots of Asian inspired decorations, total eye candy. The line for the drinks was a little long but went pretty fast and we were lucky to score 2 seats inside almost immediately. If not, you can stand around or sit on other little tables on their outside patio. You can view the drinks through a QR code, a wall menu or above the bar. The drinks were really good with fun names, it was hard to decide which I'd make my first! A great place to visit and enjoy a good drink.

The only redeeming parts of our visit were the pool tables and the serving staff, who were friendly and did their best. Everything else was a huge disappointment. The food was honestly some of the worst we've had, and the drinks were so bad I couldn't even finish mine. We kept hoping something would turn the experience around, but it never did. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I also can't recommend this place. There are just too many great spots nearby to spend your time and money here. I truly hope they make some major improvements, because right now I can't see myself ever coming back.

I searched Yelp and this came up a couple miles away and we liked the name of it. Haha! Cute little place. And I mean, LITTLE. Not big at all and hard to maneuver once inside. Pretty cramped. Hard to get a drink. Had a group of 4 people totally cut in front of me and my husband. We went to the other side of the small bar and waited several minutes.... Fortunately, the girl in front of me was sweet to offer to order our drinks for us. The decor was fun and festive but we won't go back. Not our style, not our type of bar to hangout in. Plus we pretty much surpassed the general age of the crowd. Like probably by at least 15 years. HA!
