Went looking for a good spot to watch a World Cup game and originally tried the Harp. Big mistake. It was absolutely packed and standing room only, so we headed over to Wild Goose Tavern instead. Great decision. We got there a little before the game and had plenty of choices for seats. It definitely filled up as kickoff got closer, but with TVs everywhere, this place is pretty much built for watching sports. The food was surprisingly good, plenty of choices, good beer selection, and the service was excellent. Our waitresses were friendly and attentive even as the place got busier. The whole crowd had a fun energy, which made watching the World Cup even better. I've heard Wild Goose really cranks up at night with a younger crowd, but I haven't experienced that side of it yet. For a big sporting event, though, I'd absolutely come back. Great atmosphere, good food, cold beer, lots of TVs, and friendly service. Hard to ask for much more. read more

Tried this place after discovering on yelp. I was looking for a good espresso martini and this place was a suggested result. I will say the espresso martini was not 5 star, but other drinks were good. We tried the blood orange marg, the spicy strawberry marg, and the cowboy marg. My mom liked the blood orange but the second round did not taste the same as the first. A bit of a consistency issue but she nursed it and finished it. My favorite drink was the cowboy marg. It was on the sweeter side but refreshing. For food. We had an assortment. Standouts were the steak dinner and onion rings! I would come back to try other things. The short rib grilled cheese was mid, but would be great to soak up alcohol. Cassidy was an excellent server, even as it got really busy for a UFC fight. Ambiance is definitely fun and unique. This is a really good bar to hang out for socializing with friends and watching sports. The food is priced very reasonable. I can't say it's 5-star food, because it's real bar food, but it's not awful. This bar does get pretty packed some weekends. If a big sporting event is happening, don't be surprised if there's a line of people waiting to get in. The downer is that parking can be a challenge. Whatever you do, don't park in the lot on the right side of the back door. Even though that lot is always empty, they tow cars. read more

This was the perfect spot to watch the USMNT play against Australia in the World Cup. When you first enter the bar, you think it's a small narrow dark bar, but if you keep walking it opens up to a large open air room on the right, another smaller bar hidden over there, and a large patio space with even more seating to boot. Since we were there for a big game, it was packed, but the crowd was navigable and even more importantly, the wait staff was fantastic at getting orders in and out with little wait time. Besides the buckets of beer, wine, and cocktails we ordered the charcuterie board plus some other appetizers. Everything was great and we had zero complaints on food. Don't be intimidated when you first walk in and see a dark long narrow bar. Keep going, this place is expansive with several different seating areas, including outdoor seating. The McGoose Sausage Sando was amazing! It comes on a homemade biscuit. In a good way it reminds me of Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits. Delicious! The Cinnamon Roll was rather flavorless. American Double ($8 - Monday - Lunch special) - This consisted of 2 smashed angus patties, lettuce, slice tomato, American cheese, pickles, house secret sauce all served in a large bun. I asked for my patties to be medium rare. I was impressed with how juicy and great tasting this burger was. Not to mention all the ingredients were fresh and size was generous. Tried the photobooth they have and asked the bartender if they had scissors so we could cut it in half so we each could get one to take home. I decided to throw in some crispy short rib on top, and while it sounded promising, it ended up being the only letdown. The short rib was quite dry and lacked the juicy, tender bite I was hoping for, which somewhat clashed with the rest of the bowl's fresh, vibrant feel. Still, the base bowl itself was great, and I'd get it again. I may just switch the protein to Prime Rib next time. Service: Solid staff had very active eyes and were proactive. Ambiance: This place feels like a modern Western saloon with a fun, lively twist. Inside, you'll find warm wood accents, mounted antlers, and a big antler chandelier that sets the rustic vibe. This restaurant is located in a great area surrounded by other amazing restaurants and businesses I came here around 1 without a reservation and got a great parking spot up close and got a great seat inside When I walked in, Maddison told us to sit anywhere we wanted. We grabbed a booth along the wall and it also had a couple chairs on the other side. It was our lucky day and we got there during Happy hour. They actually have one of the best HH menus. The ambiance was filled with a bunch of regulars and people on their lunch break. This place is locally owned and operated. I absolutely love places like this and love to support local verses chain places We first put in for the fried pickles and their fried burrata. Both starters were absolutely delicious and they were both on the happy hour menu Then we put in for their burger and their version of a French dip sandwich (Again, both were amazing) the meat was extremely fresh and juicy. Sometimes with French dips they can be overwhelming with salt. Not this one. All I tasted was flavor from the meat, mushrooms and caramelized onions. The fries were delicious as well (beer battered) Another thing about this place is they have a rotating menu that is always changing. On the day I came here they actually were switching out their current menus and replacing them with different ones (Chris was really helpful at telling us about how things are always changing here) So it's already guaranteed I have to come back to see what's new! Now, dessert They have these amazing cookie skillets with ice cream. These cookies are so huge it's literally like 5 cookies stacked together. We ended up with the peanut butter cookie skillet and the birthday cake one. The birthday cake cookie tasted exactly like a birthday cake. And the peanut butter one would leave any peanut butter lover shaking in their boots. We actually took a lot of the cookie home and I snacked on it for a couple days. Even though the cookie was so thick it was cooked evenly, which surprised me. We originally went to wild goose Tavern because we heard that it is a university of Texas, Longhorns bar. My boyfriend is from Texas so we were looking for a place to go watch the Longhorns and this did not disappoint. I really like this place! If you're ever around the area you gotta stop in for some food or a drink. It's full of western decor including an old school saloon area complete with saddle seats. The staff is always very nice and helpful too. I was here a couple nights ago and we were looking for food but their kitchen was closed but one of the staff told us of another bar that served food until closing. That was awesome! Anyway stopped by yesterday for dinner and a couple drinks. It wasn't crowded and I was able to sit at a little table with no problem. My server was quick and so nice. She mentioned it was Taco Tuesday and gave me their taco menu. Don't sleep on their Taco Tuesday! I ended up getting 4 tacos, a chicken, cajun grilled fish, short rib, and al pastor. They were all really good. My least favorite was the fish, I just think a battered fish would be better, but I appreciate grilled for health reasons. The short rib was delicious with crispy onions on top. The chicken was great, nothing to complain about. However the al pastor was the real winner! It was so juicy and flavorful and the little pieces of pineapple were just a perfect bite. Next time I'll just get chicken and al pastor. I also got their pickled deviled eggs to start and they were very tasty! If you like pickled food definitely try them, if not you may not enjoy the flavor. We came with no reservations on a Sunday afternoon and we were seated -no problem. We were promptly greeted and offered water and asked what we wanted to drink. We got a beer and a cocktail. We order as appetizer the sweet potato and goat cheese fritters (come with "chimichurri -careful, is not the original one, this one is spicy-, and garlic aioli) we really enjoyed those fritters, were excellent! Then we had the Costa Mesa dip sandwich that comes in a house made roll, diced ribeye (was a little chewy), drunken mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella and an amazing au jus!! So flavorful!!. Also got a 17th St Chop salad: was perfect for today: lettuce: roasted corn, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan cheese, pepita seeds, crispy shallots all tossed in a super fresh citrus vinaigrette. I just wished it had had avocado... I mean it did have a couple pieces... but I wish it had had more! For dessert we went with the hot cookie (chocolate chip) and vanilla ice cream - was a-ok, the cookie was like made ahead of time so after a few bites the center was really hard. When we arrived, the security staff addressed us in a very inappropriate way and used the phrase "f***ing Russian." I am not Russian, but regardless of nationality, this kind of language toward guests is completely unacceptable. After entering, we waited for over 30 minutes without anyone coming to serve us or even acknowledge our table. Even with the sauce and the slaw (I got it normal ) I didn't even eat them I just ate the shrimp inside the tacos because it didn't even feel like a taco, felt like a waste of $$. My daughter works for the restaurant corporation the manages these restaurants and Wild Goose Tavern is one of them. Since it is Orange County Restaurant Week, we figured it's the perfect time to sample the various different styles of cuisines. The OCRW menu is a Pre fixe selection of 3 courses. To mix it up a bit we selected course 1: the sweet potato fritters and the bacon fries. 2nd: wild goose burger and short rib Mac and cheese sando. 3rd: each of the two desserts offered, the cinnamon roll and the chocolate mousse. Quality was good. Taste was mixed feelings. For me the short rib Mac & chs was dry. Probably could use an extra dollop of the beer cheese for extra moisture. The burger was excellent. The sriracha thousand island sauce has a good kick, so if spice is not your thing, order it on the side. Desserts were both great. R also tried a couple of their extended Happy Hour offerings which I got the MBP slice of pizza and some onion rings. The rings were nicely bettered, but ask for ranch. It made it taste better. Our waitress (I think her name was Celia) was PHENOMENAL We came here for the first time last night and she was running around helping so many people and she was extremely professional and kind. She took extra time helping us figure out gluten free items for one of our friends. She also made sure to check up on us often. There is a limited gluten free menu but it is clearly labeled. The nachos and deviled eggs (GF) were delightful. The truffle fries and pizza were the perfect bar food. They had only one cab sav in additional the house but it was cool because it was Daou. The bar is divey in a comforting way, like you don't feel like anyone is judging you for showing up the way you are. We were there for the F1 event (go Piastri! ) with the event team led by Leanna who is amazing! The rest of the sections of the bar were also having a great time getting down to Big Pimpin and other early 2000 hits. There was even a bride and groom celebrating after their full on wedding!
