We stopped by this bar after the boat parade since it was the closest spot once we docked. I usually am not into dive bars, but this one pleasantly surprised me. The crowd was much more dressed up than expected, which gave it a fun, lively vibe right away. The bar was decorated beautifully for the holidays and already has a lot of character on its own. It felt festive without being over the top. There was also a taco stand right outside, which was such a great touch. My friends grabbed a burrito along with chips and guacamole, and it was perfect late night food after being out on the water. The bartenders were friendly and welcoming, and overall it was just a really fun place to spend time with friends and people watch. I went one time and the waiter was nice and everything was great. The time after that I came and didn't plan to drink, had a picture of my ID and then had my passport and was told I had to leave, now I was 29 at the time. I left and said it was weird because I had my passport and still didn't want to drink I was just with friends. But I said maybe it's a rule so I didn't fight I got up and left. Third time I came with 3 others and this time they came with their baby. We had just walked in, no one approached us or greeted us. But the bartender she was tall, she came screaming in front of everyone marching her way to us. "You have to take yourselves and get out of the bar". Like we were two parents trying to just grab a drink in a tourist area. Just as easily she could have said it in a nice way. She embarrassed us in front of everyone and screamed as everyone turned to us. I walked down the block to a bar called cruisers and as I walk in I see two other babies. Maybe the bartender shouldn't have been drunk if she couldn't handle customer service. I didn't ask for a Michelin star greeting, but basic manners like "hey guys, sadly we don't accept babies here" would have been fine. Even another customers jaw dropped and said woahhh. Not sure if this bar only accepts certain people or just locals or what the deal is, but someone with such disrespect shouldn't be the face of a bar. I chose 1 star because she has been the person who has ruined the last two times I have come in here. Shame. read more

Terrible experience from the moment I got to the door. I was denied entry because the bouncer said my ID "didn't look like me." He then asked for a debit card to "verify" my identity. I told him I had one but had left it in my car. Instead of offering any other way to verify my ID, he immediately refused entry. No second check, no manager, no additional questions ...just a hard no. I've used this same ID at countless other bars with zero issues. Apparently this place only accepts one specific method of verification and won't make any effort beyond that. The whole interaction felt dismissive and unnecessary. If you're going to accuse someone of not being who they are, at least be willing to actually verify it properly. Plenty of bars handle ID checks professionally. This one does not. This dive bar is your typical local spot with regulars and a sprinkle of people that are not from the area. It's more of a late 20s - early 40s vibe. If you're looking for that wild and crazy bar experience, I don't think this is the place. This is more of a casual chill laidback type of place. They offer pool tables, ok music and great service. I rode my bike one Sunday morning stopped in at 7am. Joe was the bartender. I ordered 1 drink. He ruffied me!!!! He said we should make out. He was cute so I said ok. He took me to the back private employees only area and forced himself on me and raped me. After my horrible experience I made a police report. NO ONE DID A DAMN THING ABOUT IT!!! Sweet spot to grab a drink if your bike riding up the coast. Cool people strong drinks and great views. They have plenty of TVs for Sunday football and even Nascar. Plenty of places near by to order some food and sometimes they have a Taco truck . Best to ride a bike there because parking does get tight. Our goto when we are in the area, near the ferry also. Balboa's finest divey Sports bar right here next to the Fun Zone on the peninsula. A quick ferry ride away from Fashion Island or 15-20 mins from the end of the 55 freeway. Easy parking here and across the street, and the bartenders and super chill. A couple of pool tables, and feels like American Sprit in this spot. It's almost like you can feel the history here. I think John Wayne used to stomp around here back in the day. Highly recommended good vibes here at Class of 47 and they go til 2am. All the bartenders are super chill, don't listen to the reviews of the guys who drink too much and pop off here with their keyboards. read more

WONDERFUL ESTABLISHMENT! I had my drink spilled 3 times! Finally asked for support from the bartenders, and was told "please ask on the first attempt and we will take care of the situation sooner" I then explained that this was the 3 time another customer (the same one) spilled my drink and they offered me another drink and said "we will remove her from the bar" she was removed and then 3 MINS later was let back in to "use the restroom", after using the restroom she came up to the bar, slammed into me and said "so I'm being kicked out bc of this" AND POINTED AT ME We then finally left and took our business elsewhere. As we wanted to from the first incident. Of note: our friend got kicked out for "swaying" and this girl was allowed to stay bc "she's in the industry" What a way to represent the business. We came to this bar on a spare of the moment with a big group. Class of 47 is located just West of the Balboa Fun Zone Ferris wheel. Parking is South of the bar across the street. There are canopies, tables and chairs setup outside so we were able to sit down right away. I don't know if this setup will be permanent. My guess is this setup was during COVID. During our short visit one of the staff members came over and helped us setup some chairs and tables for our big group, and even went out of his way to get us another umbrella since we were partially being hit by the sun. My only complaint was that we weren't getting any service outside. I kept seeing the staff members pass us by, but there wasn't anyone waiting on us. We proceeded to ordering our drinks from inside then taking our drinks outside. The pro to this was that the bar was being super efficient and making the drinks quick. The bar was fully stocked with different beers to drink like, Stella Artois, Heineken, Blue Moon, and Coors Light and not to mention the tons of liquor bottles they also had in stock like scotch, tequila and vodka's. They also had two pool tables with a few TV's setup inside and some TV's outside as well. Overall the bar was very clean and cozy. We look forward to our next visit here next time we are in Newport Beach. read more
