It started out with a google search....for the best Phillys in town! And somehow my husband and I missed the small detail that their kitchen didn't open until 5pm. We walked in, and it was a very small but unique atmosphere! I can't compare it to any other place in Cola. We went on a Friday, and since we were waiting for the kitchen to open we decided to look at their desserts () and stumbled upon a drink special! On Fridays, they have red/white/rose bottles for $20! So while we waited we got our drink on. Since my husband and I were on a time constraint (he works night shift) we asked for our food to be packed up to go. The hostess and manager were so nice about everything. THEY EVEN COOKED OUR FOOD EARLY. As soon as one of the kitchen staff came in he started preparing it (about 20 mins early). We were so grateful! Our food was delicious. And the philly is meant to be messy! You're supposed to eat the philly over the fries so that when all the stuff falls out it makes the fries frites! So smart! Delicious! Still one of my favorite places in Columbia! We go for drinks and dinner or snacks regularly. I love their wine flights and the Ginger Martini. This past weekend, we were doing some shopping and stopped in for a few drinks and apps. We tried the Smoked Salmon Crostini and the Duck Confit Tacos, both for the first time. They were amazing! The duck confit tacos were scrumptious and flavored well. We were absolutely blown away by the Smoked Salmon Crostini! Delightfully smoky salmon, lemon tarragon cream, and black caviar on top of a crusty piece of French bread. We will definitely add that to our permanent rotation. Our other favorites include the Poutine, Mussels and Frites, Beef Bourguignon, and Lobster Mac and Cheese. They also still make the best Philly in town. Goat's still has the sexy atmosphere, great hospitality, and level of cool that lots of bars aspire to but never achieve. If you haven't been, GO! read more

I've been going to Goat's and it's predecessor Goatfeathers for at least two decades and have never been disappointed in the food, the staff, or the drinks. The drink menu is extensive, with cocktails you won't find anywhere else in Columbia. Even the trendy craft cocktail bars don't have the extra since list of cocktails to experience. Their draft beers are also unique and aren't your run-of-the-mill restaurants. The food is fantastic. It doesn't rotate weekly like some places but that's because it doesn't need to. It's that good. Really got in the habit of the duck poutine a couple of years ago and it's fantastic. The crab dip is also fantastic. Of the entrees, I'm always torn between the Philly Cheesesteak, which is a great go-to meal to the rich and creamy lobster mac to my more recent obsession with the beef bourgogne which melts in your mouth. The staff is friendly, skilled, and accommodating. The atmosphere is dark and quaint, and the closet thing you'll find to a pub in Columbia. The clientele is usually older and the college kids who frequent the Five Points area and is a nice retreat. Its booths are intimate and perfect for a date or intimate conversation but they also have accomodations for larger groups and a great bar if your just running in for a drink or two. Also a fantastic place for amazing desserts so even if you have dinner elsewhere, the desserts alone are worth a stop in for. I really wanted to love Goat's, because their food menu looked great online. We came specifically for dinner, because we mistakenly thought it was a restaurant, but turns out, it's more of a cocktail/wine bar. There are a handful of tables and booths, and some wicked cool art lined the walls. The ambience is pretty dark and mysterious. Generally, it's a good, intimate date spot for a drink and some nibbles in Five Points. The menu options are a step above your typical bar fare. We ordered the duck confit poutine, lobster Mac n cheese, and duck tacos. My favorite was definitely the poutine (fries layered with duck, gravy, and melted cheese). The meat in my duck tacos was dry even with the aioli, and the mango salsa was pretty weak. The lobster Mac n cheese was a bit dry too. They prop the door open, so cigarette smoke from smokers outside the bar billows in. We sat in a booth near the door, so the smoke was pretty distracting. When we asked for the door to be closed, our server nicely obliged. Not too long later, the door was propped open again, so next time, we know to choose seating closer toward the back of the bar. read more

My girlfriend and I have had Goat's on our list for a while now. Finally made it out here on a Wednesday night. It wasn't too crowded with plenty of seating. We didn't realize that this place is more of a bar/tavern vs restaurant. The ambiance in here was very dark, like almost hard to even read the menu dark. Service here was friendly. We ordered the poutine, duck tacos, and lobster mac and cheese. Poutine was definitely Americanized, but I enjoyed the gravy, and it had a nice balance of flavors. The two duck confit tacos looked very sad, especially on that huge plate. We both agreed they were pretty dry as well. Lobster Mac and cheese was average to pretty good, with very small bits of lobster strewn throughout. As a place to get drinks/hang out, this place seems pretty good (except when they leave the door propped open and all the cigarette smoke pours in). But wouldn't order food here again. So we've been to Goats several times now and I figured I should write a review. I'll start with the parking situation : There is a private pay lot across the street from Goats and the fee is very reasonable. We usually average $3 to $4 for the evening. The entrance is right next to Salsarita's Fresh Cantina. On to Goats..... The service is great. We have yet to be disappointed. Goats offers a full bar and a pretty decent beer selection. Everything on the menu has been very good. The Philly Cheese Steak is a 20 on a scale of 10.... it is that good. The buffalo oysters are excellent as well. They have a great desert selection if you have room. Goats is becoming one of our favorite date night spots. read more

When you find out the name of a restaurant named Goats is short for its original name Goatfeathers*, the owner's name is Opie, and it's located in Five Points you know it has to be good. Stepping in, the lighting was low and the ceiling was the old metal tiles they used to use decades ago. I spotted a couple of spots to hide away if you come solo or with one other and a massive round table that could easily lend itself to a game of Spades and a few bottles of wine. Speaking of, the wine list is impressive. Not only will you find 60-80 listed (plus beer and a full bar), but the quality is top notch as well. But on to the food. That night found me sampling a buffalo fried oyster which came with blue cheese and hot sauce on it. I wish I had ordered my own instead of having one of someone else's. But I was saving room for the Three Cheese Lobster Mac coming my way. This large plate filled with baked penne and 3 cheeses had a nice heat to it and was enough to take me out (aka, a to-go box was needed). The team was super friendly as was Opie. When he told me about the Philly, I had a quick thought of ordering it for later. The desserts looked delicious, but that will be for another day. And there will be another day. *Insider's Tip -They are talking about bringing a lobster roll to the menu. Friendly staff, clean place, delicious boozy coffee drinks. I came here to chat with my friend over a drink. We stayed and talked for at least 2 hours and never felt rushed ~ our sweet waitress kept our water glasses filled. I loved the vibe of the place. It was so chill and intimate, yet fun and intriguing. The art on the walls inspired me and the food sounded delicious. I've always loved it from food to drink, ambiance to service. My only wish is for the name to have stayed the same. I absolutely love this place. I've been here in town working at Lexington Medical Center for a month and I've done the restaurant rounds in the area every night. This place is my favorite - no contest. The nicest coolest staff, excellent food (the lemon tarragon whipped cream salmon appetizer is one of my all time favorite appetizers I've had), great cocktails, edgy unique atmosphere. I get it...the girl seated at the bar chatting you up but why do I have to ask for another wine or sit there holding my credit card waiting on you? This has always been one of my favorite places to come have a drink and eat!! My parents have been coming here since the 80s and it's just as great now! I came for my birthday meal and couldn't have wished for more!!! The poutine and the lobster Mac n cheese were both incredible appetizers and I had the beef bourguignon as my entree and it was absolutely fantastic!! I'm disappointed... I'm disappointed in the fact that we'll probably never eat here or have Sarah as a server again. Being from Arizona, I wanted a really good lobster Mac. We weren't expecting to eat that much but we left stuffed. Sarah was amazing! She's super sweet, funny and gave the best recommendations. Everything she suggested was a hit. We started with the mussels. Delicious! She recommended the Thai chili flavor and it was the best dish we've had in SC. We also had the deep fried buffalo oysters, lobster Mac and the salmon caviar cristini. All of them were spot on. We ordered the crab dip (was not mentioned by Sarah), it was ok. Popped in early evening on a weekday. Inadvertently, arrived just a little before happy hour ended and was able to score an excellent draft IPA for just a few bucks, bonus. I had the black bean burger with fries. The burger was above average, def homemade which was nice. Fries were crispy, the way I like them. Bartender and waitress were pleasant, but service was slow, especially given that the place was about empty. Overall, nothing great but not a bad experience. As if poutine was not lavish enough in its traditional form, the house recipe includes a geological layer of duck confit. One of their drinks is formed from an unlikely conjunction of Bourbon and port: "the bleeding bullet," a cocktail the color of a lost duel. The devil himself can be seen in the corner of the establishment, eyes reddened by the exit sign beneath his hooves as he surveils the surrounding debauchery. Our gazes meet for an instant. Don't go. Served warm beer and bad seafood. Oysters unrecognizable as oysters. They did not smell or look how oysters are meant to. The fries are reminescent of frozen grocery store fries with a green herb sprinkled on top. Duck tacos were not bad but not all that good. They were finished in a couple of bites. Although they're listed as an appetizer, I thought they would be larger because of the photos on yelp. I was instantly underwhelmed by the size in relation to the price. The sandwich and fries were a dollar more and it was significantly more food. Didn't order an entree but waited just as long, I just about left before the food got to the table. Kitchen Nightmares was playing on TV! I want Gordon to come in and help. This was my first night in Columbia as a resident and I was very disappointed. Here's hoping I don't get sick!
