So my stylist was very nice and spent time talking to me about the cut and style I wanted. The cut itself was fine. I wanted a trim and that's what I got. I think if we left it at that, this would have been a 4-5 star experience. HOWEVER, the brow wax would be 0 stars! It wasn't very painful, which was good. But it was completely uneven! I asked for a slight arch, and there was none. Half my right brow is MISSING. It looks like I decided to shave one side of my brow off! I had to go out to buy a brow pencil to fill it in before a dinner party that evening! I was horrified! Moral of the story - salon is perfectly fine for haircut and styles, but don't let them do your brows!

I chose to get my hair done here because I bought a Groupon, and have never gone to a salon in Vernon Hills, so I figured I'd start here. I'm not going to lie, I checked out the Yelp reviews before booking my appointment, and when the receptionist told me I was going to have Char as my first stylist, I was nervous, because she doesn't have consistent review scores on here. Regardless, I kept my appointment, and crossed my fingers. I was nervous over nothing! CHAR WAS EXCELLENT!!! She gave me a legitimate hair consultation (not just those 30 second chats, while I'm in my chair, as she brushes my hair). Char actually sat with me at the waiting area, and then we discussed about what I wanted and did NOT want (which is extremely important to mention to any stylist) done to my hair. She payed so much attention to the little details I was telling her about, which most stylist ignore. My hair turned out better than I expected. My hair looked great when I left the salon, and even after I washed and dried it myself at home. I'm really picky when it comes to my hair, and I'm not afraid to give 1 star, but Char and Salon G really deserve 5 stars. Highly, highly recommend it!!

I always go for a natural look and wanted something that wouldn't be obvious when it grows out because I wasn't sure if I would keep up with dying my roots. My hair colorist suggested a few shades of auburn, as I requested a subtle red/brown color. We agreed on a medium chocolate color, and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. The color is very natural and just a subtle change in overall hue. It's exactly the little bit of color I wanted. I also added a Seal treatment to lock in the color. The shampoo and Seal treatment smelled amazing. I loved relaxing in the chair when my hair got washed. I should have asked which shampoo was used on my hair because I really loved the scent and the fact that their products do not contain harsh chemicals. I especially like how they advertise which chemicals/ingredients are not in the hair dye (see my photo of the color bar.) I have been hesitant to color my hair for years because I'm trying to grow it out and apply as little heat and chemicals as possible. My hair tends to be very dry, especially at the ends, so I don't want it to become drier, however, Madison Reed products seem to be high quality. My hair does not feel any more dry than it did prior to being colored. If anything their dye helps make hair silky and smooth. I'm contemplating returning for the unlimited roots membership, which seems like a great deal. I would definitely recommend Madison Reed to anyone who is looking to color their hair. The salon is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. The girl at the front desk and woman who colored my hair were both very welcoming and friendly. It's nice they have a couple other locations in the chicagoland area, as well. All in all, I was nervous before my experience, but ended up being very happy with the result. I noticed there are a few words of encouragement on the walls of the salon, including confident boosters, and that's exactly what I got: this little bit of color did in fact boost my confidence! My first colorist was very nice. I liked the color. My only complaint was I had roots showing within a couple of days. I had joined the pro level subscription, which meant I could get my roots done as often as I wanted. This is where it went downhill. When I went to try to get my roots done, I was told there was nothing wrong with them, and it must be the lighting. For a company who says you can come in as many times as you'd like for root touch ups at the pro level, they certainly do not want you to. The tech did my roots. The next day, I dried my hair, and my roots were showing!! I used the powder they sold me, and waited two weeks. I went back for another root touch up. The same thing happened. I washed my hair, with appropriate products, and my roots appeared. Whatever they had been using since my first trip was not permanent. I now had well over a half an inch of roots. We come to today. The tech asked if I used demi-permanent or permanent dye. I said "Permanent dye." I was getting an all over dye color, hoping this would color all of my roots. I was shampooed. I dried my hair, and left. Imagine my shock and dismay when I looked in the mirror and saw my roots!! What products are they using over there? No, it's not the lighting. No, it's not an "ashy" color. I went home and my son noticed right away. My husband noticed when he came home. I am very disappointed. I have cancelled my membership.

was a little nervous by the prices of this place. it seemed a little too cheap and a little too…read moregood to be true, but everything worked out and i didn't get botched like i thought i would, haha. money is a little tight as a full time student and i wasn't in the position to be dropping $120+ for a haircut. all i needed was the dead cut off and add some layers back in. i even got some curtain bangs cut in. the hairstylist did a great job with the cut, but i don't think she understood how to do a blowout too well or how to style the curtain bangs, which is fine for me, idc. i just wanted healthy hair again and after $59 (including tip!!) i got that, even with coming in with hair nearly to my butt. i'll definitely come back here!!

I brought in an inspo picture and she was very straight forward in saying my hair type (pin-straight Asian hair) wasn't going to show volume like the photo unless styled regularly. I told her that was too much effort for me because I'm a wash-and-wear kind of girl. She made recommendations to address my concerns of recent hair loss, dead ends, and needing more shape. She was super friendly and really helpful with offering advice every time I told her about my hair problems. Too dry, too frizzy, too damaged, everything! Believe me when I say my hair has been through a lot over the last decade and more. Patty washed my hair with an amazing minty shampoo and also a very light, non-creamy conditioner which I specifically asked for (yes!). Then she also showed me a leave-in conditioner and thermal protection spray that she thought would be best for my hair. What I most appreciated was that at no point did she ever try to sell me any of their products. She simply talked to me as if she was recommending something for a friend. The haircut turned out to be pretty good. My bangs were cut a little too short than what I would've liked though but luckily it grows out fast so it's not that big of a deal. She took off about 6+ inches of hair in the back so it ended up at the length that I wanted. Other random points: The Hair Fetish uses a lot of Paul Mitchell and Davines products.
