Absolutely enjoyed this place in just how tasty and unique the food was. Came here with my family,…read moreand the ~40 min. wait was pretty worth it (we came on a Memorial Day evening). The waiters/servers were relatively modest and kind, having refilled occasionally. I enjoyed the bustling atmosphere of people having a joyous time drinking, although maybe some would be conscious to arrive at a less busy or crowded time. If you don't know what to order, do yourself a favor and order the Chicken Gouda, if meat is allowed in your palate. Absolutely stunning over any franchised pizza places or the California Pizza Kitchens near me. Would 100% come to West Virginia again just for this great food.

This seemed like a fun place to have dinner and it is very hard to fuck up a big beer selection and pizza. Not far at all from where we were staying across the gorge in Lansing and it was nice to have another excuse to go back into the most adorable town, Fayetteville. We were seated immediately at 5 on a Friday (we are old now). There is both a very comfortable indoor area and a perfect-for-this-weather outdoor patio. Service was good, prices were very reasonable. The pizza menu is out of this world. I can't say I have ever seen such creative and unusual pizza ideas. We wanted to try a classic and their elotes pizza. I saw another Mexican-themed version with black beans (for the plumbing) but it was a compromise with GF to get the elotes (her choice) WITH black beans (for the plumbing). We also ordered something healthy (and for the plumbing): their house salad: spring mix (which I typically despise), grape tomatoes, huge croutons chunks, grated cheese, pepperoncini. Two dressing choices: I can't ever pass on a nice vinaigrette. I was not aware that grated cheese, frank grated cheese, in a salad could be so good. The dressing was fantastic. The greens were crisp. The croutons were very good but not plentiful enough, and again the cheese. The pizzas were incredible. The classic really couldn't have been better. The crust was PERFECT thickness and balance of chewy and crispy. Sauce had a flavorful tang. Cheese was, again, cheese. The elotes pizza was also sensational. Who knew that could be such a good flavor combo? So fucking good. The toppings (corn, black beans, jalapeños, think I saw a scallion or two) fell all over the place and made holding the pizza difficult (probably my fault due to addition of black beans...for the plumbing) but it was totally worth it. We did have to flag the server down but service was pretty good otherwise. Everything came out within a very reasonable amont of time. We finished the leftovers literally by the time we went to bed that night.

Before retiring for the night, we searched for a place to eat and found Momma Mia Italiano Restaurant. At first we were reluctant, thinking how could an Italian restaurant be any good in a small town in Virginia. After all, we are of Italian-American descent -- so we know genuine Italian food and being the cook in our home -- I know how to cook Italian. My meatballs are renowned with our family and circle of friends. Not only are we of Italian descent, we are from NYC where there are the best restaurants in the world!!!! We have lived there over 60 years and have ate at the best! We entered the restaurant to see the entry King Kong sign about being the best -- better than NYC. I knew immediately that sign was spot on -- the restaurant smelled like my home growing up as a child on Sunday mornings! The aroma of the red tomato sauce carried us into our seats! (I think I was floating.) There were so many choices on the menu, it was difficult to make our choices. I decided on a plate of spaghetti with meat sauce and the chicken salad. My husband chose the raviolis and a side salad. The dinner included Italian garlic bread! The service from our server was divine: friendly, courteous and professional. The owner/chef visited us at the table a few times to be sure everything was alright, and it was MORE THAN alright. The food was "delicioso! We are so grateful that God brought us to this awesome restaurant in Abingdon, VA!! We'll be back!

I had some skepticism that it would live up to its reputation, and frankly Southwest Virginia is not a place that someone of my urbane character normally looks for high-end pizza in, but this was another Abingdon gem. A salad was quite large; I'm not usually thrilled with iceberg lettuce and the cheese was a bit much, but the ingredients were fresh and crisp and it was reasonably good for what it was. The pizza I came for was a beautifully presented pie with a crust the texture of a cloud. The special I ordered was just basil, oregano, and fresh tomatoes, but this simple flavor combination delivered on every front: tangy, astringent, savory, salty. Ordering a tea with free refills was a sound enough decision. Service wasn't the smoothest to be honest; only one actual waitress was working and some people had a bit of a delay when they arrived. I also felt a bit rushed out and ultimately asked for a dessert to go at the register, which was probably a better way of eating it anyway. The luxuriously soft tiramisu was another good decision. As is often the case with Italian cuisine, this place does not seem like a great option for those who don't eat dairy or wheat. For those who do, it is a reminder of why some flavors never go out of style.

Stopped in on a Tuesday so the special was a medium one topping pizza for $5.99. That's a 14 inch pizza! They also have any half hoagie/submarine for $7.99 all week and it comes with a drink and chips. Got the hot ham and cheese with everything. The flavor of the hoagie was absolutely perfect even though I personally think it should have just one more piece of ham on it. You can get double meat for an extra $1.50. The pizza was really good as well. Definitely stopping here again if we ever drive through the area again.

As a head's up, even if you eat in the restaurant, the servers aren't serving you (they drop off your food and leave), so be aware if/when you tip. I wish I had know before I tipped, that we had to get everything ourselves. Also, not sure if it was due to the weather outside or not but the restaurant was cold. We started off with an order of breadsticks with pizza sauce, and while the breadsticks were decent enough, the pizza sauce tasted like they opened a jar of Prego spaghetti sauce and heated it up. For pizza, my daughter ordered an individual chicken, tomato, and spinach pizza and she said it was ok. My son and husband shared a medium pizza with pepperoni, jalapeño, sausage, and onion on a thin crust and said it was just ok as well. They said the crust was good but there weren't enough toppings or cheese. Also, the sausage is a shredded type of sausage and not the little chunks that you would normally get. I had a small pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and black olives. It was decent enough but I could go to a big chain and get better. I'm sad to say that overall this restaurant was mediocre and we wouldn't dine here again.
