My first time here. I came because I heard they have chicken bingo so how do ya not try it out? $10 cover charge for the band gave me pause until the place started filling up. You definitely get a different demographic when there's a cover charge- zero rif raft. 100% people hanging out, dancing, drinking, eating free hot dogs, singing along with the band, laughing - just awesome. Ya buy raffle tickets for $1 each, get a ticket with a number. The band keeps playing amazing music and when the chicken drops a grumpy on a number, the number is announced and the person with that ticket gets a prize. Beat time ever! Bartender was awesome. Bad experience. I never leave a review anywhere but definitely this was one to do it for. Came in with my two brother in laws for New Year's Day to get to know San Pedro since we're not from here. We decided to come here and it seemed chill and they had karaoke night. We got three shots and we then started thinking about picking a song. So then about like 20 minutes goes by and then some guy comes up to me and tells me "hey man that's my seat, ima need you to get off it." Confused cause there were other open seats and was sitting there for a while. I then tell him "all good man it ain't that deep for a seat, but next time you can say it in a better way". He doesn't say anything and goes back to drinking. One of my brother in laws sees this but actually has a problem with what just happens and tells him something but mainly to understand what just happened. He looked like he had too many and just wanted problems tbh. I tell my brother in law that "hey man if I drop it then the situation is over" and it was it after that. Until the moment he felt we were too close to his space and proceeded to tell us something. I ended up talking to him and saying "man i got up and gave you my seat, there's no problem" he ends up saying "I'm not going to lie if I'm going to handle this situation then its going to end bad for the three of y'all." lol cmon everyone reading this, who says that? I then tell him "what do you mean by that?" This is where the establishment fails. The bartenders proceeded to say to us three "hey you guys need to stop since he's been here for hours already and that's his seat" like ok thanks for telling me that when I was sitting down for 20 min. But I then tell the bartenders "did you just hear what he said?" Basically explaining how he was escalating the situation with that comment. They proceeded to say "I know but cmon it's New Year's Day". Then the security comes and automatically takes this guy side and tries to moves us. I then explain to the security of the situation and comment and then the security says " he meant to say that this situation doesn't have to go that way" like cmon. Obviously the place was looking out for the guy since he was probably a regular and he "knows" people there. But that should never justify somebody's actions and words. I then proceeded to tell the guy "hey man trust Its not that deep for a chair but also comments like that shouldn't be said either. I don't know you. You don't know me, and we can keep it like that." We shook hands at the end since I just wanted to get out of the situation. The security then proceeded to buy us shots because he probably felt bad that the situation happened to some new people just visiting. We declined since I felt he should've told the guy something or the bartenders too to him but nope just let that man be since he's spending money and we know him. Disappointing, but we learn of situations like these I guess. San Pedro you were something. The bartenders were a blonde white woman and a short hair white guy at around 11:30 pm Jan 1st 2026 to sadly 12:15am. You bartenders probably mean well but do better next time on reading the situation and standing up for what's right. Your security was cool but cmon, I check my friends first if I know they did something wrong. Have a good year everyone. read more

Me and some friends originally stumbled across this gem back in 2017 while we were in town to attend a football game. This place is the true definition of "dive" bar. Since that wonderful night in 2017 , we talked about going back. Fast forward to March 2024, and with a few of our group relocating to other parts of the country, we knew we had to make the trip happen. So we took the drive north to San Pedro for no other reason than to spend the night so we could have the Godmother's experience one more time. Although it had changed a little (classed things up a bit if you will), the overall vibe was just that of which we remembered from 2017!! Whenever I hear anyone mention San Pedro, I will automatically think Godmother's!! Thank you Godmother's for two nights that we may not completely remember but will never forget! read more

Came in for a couple of drinks after our Sunday dinner across the street. They had live entertainment in the afternoon but we'd just missed it. Place is spacious for a dive with main bar and lounge areas, they even have a hotdog station at the end of the room. I suppose that's one way to sober up a little bit in case you had too much to drink. They had good selections of liquor especially whiskeys. I had a few Grey Goose dry martinis which were strong enough, hubby had Guinness on draft. Since they have TouchTunes so we played some of our favorite songs on it. Glad to see some couples were dancing to our songs and having fun. We are not familiar with San Pedro area but I really liked this local dive. Definitely a good find that we might just come here from time to time. read more

Question and inquiries have been received regarding afternoon R&R that have stopped for almost two years due to all types of allegations! There is no other reason or any type of censorship as the cause of this halt except Covid 19. Most remaining establishment never opened their door to or reverted back to normal schedules! Projecting business volume and special events are not giving the right results! However, the established Godmothers seems to dominate the afternoons as tested Raid X. The Kingdom of Karey on 03/27/2022 was tested with my Girlfriend riding shotgun. One of my favorite afternoon bartenders, Karey 12-7pm was surprised with sting! Beautiful well kept operation, excellent crowd and what I love to see, "a full bar of happy customers." Karey having only a few moments to talk business due to the volume of people as she washed and cleaned. Oh My Godmother's... Yet another establishment that seems to live solely for the purpose to rip my fat a$$ed, middle aged, kidney, liver and bladder straight from the depths of my inner sanctum. Classic 'Pedro dive bar. Been here a few times, this most recent visit with the "future son-in-law" on a day where neither of us had anything better to do because all the ladies were away at my baby girl's bridal shower. NICE!!! The place has been rearranged somewhat from my last visit, with the pool table now in the middle, (as opposed to on the right of the 7th street entrance). Seems to be a tad more spacious now but maybe that was the beer goggles I was peering through after arriving here from an earlier stop at the BrewCo around the block... Friendly bartender this time, (as usual), who when I was empty, didn't even ask if I was all in for another Stella... Just took it upon himself. Maybe I had the look of a guy that really needed a drink, (or two, or three...). What a guy!!! Music on the weekend evenings, the place can get a bit festive and quite busy during those times. Visited this place after an amazing dinner at Tranis Dockside. Buddy and I figure we will have a night cap. It's 8pm on a Wednesday and there's 4 people in there. We order 4 makers marks and when my card is ran the grand total is $88! You read that right $88! If you do the math on that I'm charged $22 a drink! So there is that but I also neglected to mention the guy with the face tattoo who walks up to my buddy and I and says "you're going to buy me a drink". Lol when he realized the only free thing he was going to get was an a** whoopin he moved onto the next group of lucky patrons. As part of my Mother's Day outing, Diane from D & D Gallery (across the street from Godmother's) introduced me to her favorite bar. The bar's owners, Cathy and Jack, were there watching the end of the Lakers game. I took photos of the bartender, the owners, and the incredible historic building that houses this bar, so check those out. Godmother's is right on the corner, can't miss it, and there is likely to be a row of impressive bikes, as in motorcycles, parked in front. Inside you will see a pool table (yay! next time I bring my new stick) and you will find a cool & friendly crowd. Our beers cost something like $3.50 each, maybe less. That makes me smile. Especially considering Godmother's is smack dab in the heart of the San Pedro Arts District, and if you haven't been to that area recently, you are missing out. It's one of LA's best spots. So Diane filled me in on the history of this family-owned bar: Jack's father owned the bar originally, and when Jack was a little boy he would help clean up around the place. And now he runs the saloon, with his wife. How cool to find a second-generation business, going strong. I was told about the music too: Jazz on Wednesday, Karaoke on Tuesdays. First and foremost - this is a BAR, not some hipster doofus hangout filled with a bunch of pretenders that opens at 6 or 7 at night. To the contrary, this is a bar for folks who take their drinking seriously and who appreciate the choices, prices and staff. And as I discovered the last time I went there (another afternoon properly wasted), it has a great jukebox - at least for those of us who love classic country of the 40s, 50s and 60s. So as a friend of mine and I were beginning to catch up there recently, a lovely lady at the bar, having ferreted out my musical tastes, began playing Ernest Tubb...and she and I sang about waltzing across Texas. And that was followed by some George Jones (R.I.P. Possum), then some Hank Sr., some Buck, and so on. Now I'm sure that jukebox has more modern songs...and live music and stuff at night (I've only been there in the afternoons). But, and trust me on this, spending an afternoon listening to and singing along with great country in a dark bar while visiting with a good friend and drinking shots of Booker's with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale backs (I was anyway)...well, that my friends, is what I'm talkin' 'bout! We popped in on our way to a music festival, figuring we would save some mula. Well we came, and pretty much never made it to our event, lol. We had such a good time hanging out and chatting up the bartender and the locals, that we may have gotten a little bit too tipsy. Overall great place, though the drinks were pretty steep for what I usually drink even my local bar which I consider pricey was way cheaper. The bartender was great and very personable and didn't mind us just chatting him up. Highly recommend if you are in the area, and definitely take a Lyft home. read more
