This store has super cute gift items and an extensive offering of Brighton jewelry. It's a go-to for fun, patterned, girly items (stationary, cooking/ serving/ bar ware , jewelry, fashion and city books, candies and chocolates, etc). I stopped in to buy my sister in law a birthday gift. Some of the items are higher priced, but if you look around long enough, you can find affordable options that are unique. I have stopped in a few times before, but this is the first time I made a purchase. I was greeted nicely upon entering and left to browse for 10-15 minutes on my own, which I prefer when searching for gifts. When I needed assistance for the price of a piece of jewelry, a young associate checked on it for me. When the piece I wanted to buy was out of stock in the cabinet, I was given the one on the display which was in perfect condition. I asked about mailing a couple of items via postal service and was given suggestions on items that would be more suitable for mailing and how to package them. As I paid for the items, a girl named Jordan gift wrapped them really nicely and was extremely professional. We chatted a bit casually which was nice too. Overall I had a very satisfactory experience and am excited to send the gifts to the birthday girl. read more

We had some time to kill on Saturday while we waited for our table to be ready for brunch and we decided to browse this little store, there were quite a few groups of women doing the same as we were but this did not make it difficult to shop. 23 South is filled with private and large name designers from jewelry to bags to dishware to travel mugs to greeting cards, all just cute little gifts. What initially drew me in to this store was that I was looking for a new Alex and Ani bracelet that had just came out, the sales associate asked me if I was looking for something in particular and she was able to locate the charm bracelet right away. She held it at the counter for me so that I could continue to look around. I had just moved into my apartment and found a large piece of artwork that I really liked, the sales people told me that it was the last one of that painting and took it off the wall for me, they even gave me a couple of special nails from the drawer to hang it when I got home! I call that friendly customer service and that is what keeps me coming back. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a little gift for a special occasion or "just because". ..or maybe to someone who is looking to just treat themselves (like me!). read more

The store is okay but NOT worth the rude sales associate. The young high school girl was nice but this older lady was not meant for retail she made the end of our experience terrible. We bought two gifts (+other things) spent $150 and the young lady was packing it up in a nice bag for us bc it was a gift, then the older lady scolded her for packing it in the bag she was using because it "costs $1" and the item would fit in a smaller bag if she stuffed it. So they stuffed it in the smaller bag. She put our second gift in a garbage bag (I am not joking, she went in the back and literally got a garbage bag to put it in because "it would take too much tissue paper to make it look nice.") I'm annoyed that the older lady took over our purchase and sent the other one away when then nice one was the one helping up in the first place. Unprofessional. Not shopping there again. Sheesh, I wish I would have read the reviews before I meandered into this boutique. Some people will see this store as a beacon to their Regina George basicness: Lily Pulitzer, Vera Bradley, Brighton, Alex and Ani, etc. Others, myself included, will see these as an anathema. But where ever you stand, it's a well curated store. How did I wind up in such a place, you ask? I ventured in here to find an Alex and Ani bracelet for my cousin's first communion. I walked in and browsed the three counters of Alex and Ani. After 5-7 minutes, an older woman approached me. If she was the older woman mentioned in the posts, I had a different experience--she was helpful when trying to pick out a smaller charm. She wasn't rude, but she wasn't over friendly. I'm okay with that this. In fact, I prefer this over obsequiousness. However, when I went to the register, there were two young sales associates who could use some etiquette lessons. The best way to describe them is millennial. No hello, no thank you. Tons of glares. To be fair, I was asked if I wanted the bracelet gift wrapped (+1). They gave me a larger bag made out of cheaper stock, so I asked for the smaller, better quality gift bag. I explained that a little girl would feel special. Glare. After glare one, one woman obliged by asking the other young woman to put in new bag, tie a string of tulle on handles and shove a piece of tissue in the bag, ahem! I mean rewrap it! She glared as words were exchanged. The other woman just handed it to me as I thanked her. Glare. After reading the reviews, the only thing I can conclude is that this otherwise casual, fun boutique is someone's pet project. They would benefit from a few management classes. read more

This boutique is utterly dismal and the sales staff dreadfully repelling. I walked in and immediately sensed the negative energy circulating. I am a doyen when it comes to the retail industry. With over twenty years experience in NYC and SF working for multiple luxury retailers and in small upscale boutiques, I consider myself very familiar with developing a loyal clientele and providing stellar customer service. Every potential client that walked into any of the high end boutiques I worked in where welcomed in a friendly manner and the staff would be approachable and attentive. Unfortunately the ownership, management, and staff at 23 South are completely unaware of this style and manner or do not feel it is necessary to do so. I left my career and decided to do something different, knowing that to continue to work in an industry that is sadly becoming obsolete would be a wise decision for my future. I applaud retailers that continue to keep the legacy of retail relevant and I especially support and shop at small, local boutiques exclusively with the hope that the small businesses thrive and continue to be part of the communities where they are located. 23 South has no interest in creating a warm, welcoming environment whatsoever. When I walked in, I experienced the worst customer service ever. Not one person greeted me ( and there was a sales associate behind the front jewelry case at the door!) and as I made my way slowly through the store, not one person approached me to query if I needed assistance. I even picked up a few items to suggest to the staff that I was interested, but to no avail. I continued towards the door and hoped for a simple "thank you" or "have a good day", but again my presence was not acknowledged. That small gesture when leaving the boutique would have sufficed because I know that sometimes there will be instances when not every customer can be greeted or assisted. I understand how a small boutique works, but 23 South had two employees and one customer while I was there, so I am lead to believe that they just did not care. I absolutely enjoy shopping and had just picked up my custom wedding invitations at a nearby shop. I decided to shop the area ( and allow me to reiterate, support local business and not do what most consumers decide and shop online), eager to find unique, interesting novelties from specialty boutiques. I visited several other boutiques and was very pleased with the sales staff and awarded the shops with my business. When I stop into a store, I have every intention of buying because I prefer to not waste anyone's time. Even if shoppers do not have the same philosophy, they should be treated like a valued customer because one day they will shop and when they do, they will not shop at boutiques that display such disregard for customers. In closing, retail is a fading entity, brick and mortar stores are becoming extinct and anywhere you go, even popular shopping malls, it is evident by the empty, shuttered stores. Consumers shop on line, enticed by deals and sales and the convenience of having things delivered with the ease of returning if need be. Standing boutiques and small stores need to appreciate that when a customer is coming into your store, the ceremony of shopping should be continued to maintain the interest of the consumer and to keep alive the experience and pleasure of shopping in a boutique. 23 South, I am so disappointed. This is my very first Yelp review. I actually vowed to never do one, particularly a negative one. I am hopeful that you reconsider your business strategy and instill your staff with the importance of customer service. There are beautiful, enviable items in this boutique ( but maybe it's time to retire the Alex and Ani) so I would like to see it survive, but not by my patronage. read more

I've walked into (and shopped once) this local store several times. They are centrally located between work and home, so stopping by for gifts and accessories is very convenient. I initially purchased several gifts here yet, I've decided that horrible customer service should not be celebrated. Each time I walk in the store, I am greeted with silence. Associates walk by and avoid eye contact at all cost...even asking questions is frowned upon here. I thought it was a fluke the first time it happened, but after time number four, I realized that I have to let my money do the talking. I refuse to support this store and will tell everyone I know of their horrid customer service. Online shopping and stores that value customers will win and with Morristown stores opening and closing rapidly, I bet this location will be a trendy cafe or upscale clothing store within the next few years. read more
