My partner and I got the garlic tofu rice bowl and dweji bulgogi (sweet spicy KBBQ pork) rice bowl - TASTE: 5/5 - better than expected! The special red pepper chili paste gochujang sauce and sesame sauce were both super tasty, and the proteins were seasoned well TEXTURE: 5/5 - perfect combo of rice and red quinoa plus toppings, including fresh, crisp veggies, melty cheese, and the sauces PRICE: 4/5 - around $14-15 for a bowl SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - satisfied us for lunch SERVICE: 5/5 - not much of a line when we walked up at 12:30pm on a Sunday at SoWa. Very friendly and fast. I was really surprised by the flavor of what is a super basic looking salad. I got the chicken and it was cooked perfectly, the salad dressing/sauces were delicious. We attended the Salem, MA, food truck festival on Sunday. We started here at Gogi; having served in South Korea in the Army, it's always fun to get a taste! Since we wanted to try multiple trucks, we opted for the Pork Salad. It was ready in a flash, and we dug in. It was a bit heavily dressed, but the flavors were good: the pork was tender, and the veggies were crisp. I found the dressing a bit sweet, but had I known there was a spicy sauce pooled at the bottom; I would have stirred the whole thing up before digging in. The guy at the window was terrific at customer service and super friendly. Plus, the little girl was so cute, smiling and waving to customers. I will follow them and see if they are ever in the area again. PS friend had the beef burrito and enjoyed it. read more

For a quick Tuesday work lunch, I stopped by South Station to find Gogi on the Block parked at the outside plaza, alongside a couple other food trucks. Curious about their rendition of Korean-Mexican Fusion, I ordered bulgogi burrito ($11), which I received in 5 minutes despite multiple others waiting for their orders as well. After another 5 minutes, I arrived back into the office and starting eating. The burrito itself contained chopped lettuce, spring mix, bean sprouts, shredded Monterey jack and cheddar cheese, pickled radish and tomato salsa, topped with red pepper chili paste gochujang sauce and sesame sauce. While the list of ingredients seemed impressive, the variety proved indistinguishable because of the sesame sauce. The sesame sauce tasted like the sort one would find served in the side salad at a Japanese restaurant - delicious but quite strong in flavor. The only other flavor that could stand out was the marinade of the bulgogi beef. Otherwise, the burrito's tortilla seemed hard, almost with the consistency of a wrap. I felt like I was eating a sesame salad wrap with far too much dressing. read more

The food is amazing. It's just so delicious. No extra word needed! Plus, it gives me a sense of my original home (S. Korea). It's hands down the best Korean fusion in town. Just try it if the truck is around. Rice bowl with bulgogi is my favorite by far, but I love others too. You gotta also try yuja smoothie. It's just so good! Of course, you can expect great service from them too. Highly recommended! read more

Usually I bring my lunch to save some money, but one of my co-workers convinced me to try this food truck! I quickly became a huge fan and looked forward to the truck on schedule every week. They have also consistently showed up when scheduled unlike some of the other food trucks we have tried. The line for this truck gets extremely long the closer to 12PM, so we go early. I love this family run business and it's nice seeing their friendly faces behind the truck. I have talked with them directly on social media (Instagram) several times about stories I've posted, and they are very responsive! When I shared with them that one of my bowls wasn't of the same quality I was used to receiving, they immediately apologized and comped the next bowl! I really appreciate that they are receptive to feedback! Their bowls are so tasty and filling! The combination of protein, rice, various veggies and their sauce meld together for a truly flavorful experience. The standard rice bowl, burrito, or salad bowl are ~$9. On days when I want something extra, I get the kimchi fried rice (+$2). Otherwise the white rice also goes great especially with the sweet bulgogi beef. The sweet & spicy pork and chicken are also good options but I think the beef is still my favorite. I have also ordered double/extra meat (+$2) and to be honest I can't tell the difference. Their veggies also always taste fresh and crisp. Only questions are do they have a rewards card or loyalty program haha for people who frequently indulge and a future standalone restaurant (would love to share with friends who don't work around Boston)?! Was super excited to try this food truck given high yelp ratings. Ordered their salad bowl which was advertised as having "a lot more veggies;" my bowl constituted of salad leaves, sprouts and radish - felt a bit misled. The sauce had some great flavor, so feel the need to try the rice bowl to see if I am missing something, but this did not live up to the hype for me. read more

Literally my most favorite food truck in Boston. I've convinced new friends to order them at SoWa and will drag any work friends I can to their offerings. A respite from the week, Gogi is our go-to office lunch aka the Thursday feast. Every bowl I've ever gotten from the truck is perfection. The formula is clear but the magic comes together in generous layers of rice sprinkled with quinoa, beansprouts, salad, pickled veggies, with soft bulgogi beef -- and of course the sauces that bring it all together. More than filling! Enough to get me through the rest of Thursday. While I've tried the dweji bulgogi and heard good things about the garlicky tofu versions, I love the tried-and-true never-let-me-down simplicity of the bulgolgi rice bowl. The truck itself too is owner/family-run and customer service/wait time is top-notch. Despite record long lines maybe 30 people deep, I've never waited longer than 10 minutes or so. Oh man I had my eye on Gogi on the Block ALL summer and when the day finally came and I braved the line, Gogi did not disappoint. I went with a burrito for my first go-round. Went with Dweji Bulgogi - because I love me some spice with everything - that heavenly Korean flavored meat in addition to their special gochuchang and sesame sauce is just an explosion in your mouth! I don't know if i can ever get around to the bowl because the burrito is just provides the PERFECTLY BALANCED BITE. I will try and break this habit though because I do want to try that kimchi fried rice. I thought the burrito was tiny at first but it must just be conditioning as a result of all seeing the size of fast casual places like Sabrosa, Chipotle, or Anna's. However it was just right. Kept me full until my next meal and didn't make me feel uncomfortably full. It does make you want to eat burrito after burrito though so ... just don't go back or double down and you'll do just fine. read more

I've been to Gogi on the Block many times now. It's a relatively new Korean Fusion food truck serving the traditional bulgogi. I'm confident in saying that this is one of the best food trucks in the city. Bulgogi (literal translation: "fire meat") are thin, marinated strips of tender meat. Gogi on the Block takes bulgogi as a base ingredient, and serves it in a rice bowl, a burrito, or a salad. I've had the rice bowl with regular rice, and with the kimchi rice upgrade. I greatly preferred the kimchi upgrade: It gave a little spicy, fermented punch to the rice and an additional layer of flavor. Everything in the rice bowl tastes phenomenal. I could sit and eat a bottomless bowl of it for years. There's a combination of two main sauces that compliment each other: The sesame sauce is a tangy orange, while the gochujang sauce has a spicy depth of flavor without burning out your sinuses or scorching your taste buds. The meat is beyond tasty: seasoned with a heavy hand, tender, juicy, and covered in a sweet Korean BBQ sauce that cools down the fermented spice of the gochujang. The rice and lettuce soak up all of the sauces, making it the least-dry rice bowl you'll find. The cool, crisp lettuce cuts through the spicy and savory sauces. The end result on your palette is a delicious dance of spice, sweet, savory, and cool crispness. It's a little on the expensive side, $11 with a single upgrade, around $9 for a normal meal. Stumbled upon this place on the greenway on a walk back from a meeting. Got an awesome salad that was pleasantly packed with flavorful bulgogi at a $9 price tag. The salad veggies were fresh and I loved the addition of pickled daikon on top to add a tangy crunch. I opted for the sesame soy dressing on the side and only used half in the salad which was more enough to coat the leaves and beef. My friend got the spicy chicken salad and thoroughly enjoyed her meal too. Both of us ate it in less than 10 min lol The food also took less than 5 min to come out. Aside from the fact that I waited a while (but that's because they're crazy popular), it was all so worth it. The portion may look deceiving, but with that insanely intense smack of flavor, it was just right. I ordered the rice bowl that contained veggies of the day, bean sprouts, pickled radish, salsa, cheese, and their amazing gochujang sauce ($9), and switched out the white rice with kimchi fried rice (+$2). With a choice of meat, I easily picked bulgogi. And holy did that taste like heaven in my mouth. The amount of flavor is amazing. The bulgogi was tender and the sauce was rich, with the crunch of the lettuce and the bean sprouts, flavors were dancing in my mouth. Literally hits you right at the first bite. It truly was one of the best Korean fusion food I have ever eaten. No doubt I will be going here again. $11 that I would easily spend again. read more

We visited the Gogi food truck across from the carousels near Rowes Wharf. There's usually a fair amount of places to sit and eat on the freeway. It's probably one of my favorite things to do during lunch. I ordered the pork bulgogi bowl with fried Kim chi and my wife tried the beef bulgogi with salad. The bowls come up with tomatoes, pickled daikon, bean sprouts, spring mix, and a house made sweet sauce. Both bowls were delicious and my only complaint would be that sometimes theres too much sauce and makes the bowl too sweet. The pricing is extremely fair and there's not a long wait like many of the other food trucks. Imagine a Korean style burrito bowl! Thumbs up will come back. read more

This is a great food truck. I get it almost every Tuesday when they are at Stewart Street. The bowl is amazing. You have to get the beef with the kimchi rice. I'm someone who like hot and not just sweet so I do bring it back to my desk at work and put some Tabasco sauce which makes it amazing! If you are a hot and sweet person too the spicy chicken is great also! I just love the beef too much to get the chicken. read more

went to sowa food truck bazaar today with a couple friends, one of whom said this was his absolute favorite food truck. he'd previously gotten me a bulgogi burrito which was pretty delish. this time i wanted to try a fresh kimchi fried rice bowl with sweet & spicy pork. it was AMAZING. it cost $11. i couldn't finish the entire thing and took my bowl home, even though there was only a bit of lettuce and rice left in it aha. i couldn't bring myself to waste any of it :') only thing is i wish they included a bit more meat to go with everything else in the bowl, but oh well. because of how much my friends bought (i think altogether we bought 6 bowls!) they even gave us complimentary drinks. definitely coming back! read more

Ran into this place on the way out of the aquarium and what a great find! I got the rice bowl with marinated pork. It's like a rice bowl/salad mix. It was so flavorful with the marinated pork and fresh because the salad veggies. The dressing/sauce brings it all together. So delicious! My Korean-speaking friend informs me that "Gogi" means fire and that a literal translation of bulgogi would be fire meat. This truck conjures up delicious bulgogi based bowls, in the way that most West coast / SF-Bay Area Korean food trucks do. Hats off to Gogi on the Block for a delicious original bulgogi salad bowl. A minor quibble is that most of the salad is iceberg lettuce based, which doesn't add much flavor to the salad. However, everything else - from the pickled radish, sauce, fresh bulgogi, sprouts, and sesame sauce was fantastic. Thanks! read more

I used to really love this food truck until this April when I had the most horrific food poisoning experience. I remember I ordered chicken rice bowl for lunch at the food truck near South Station. I guess the chicken was not prepared as clean as we would assume it to be. My doctor confirmed that it was food poisoning and that was the end of my love for this lunch option. read more

Tried this truck for the first time at SOWA today. I had the bulgogi beef rice bowl and it did not disappoint! The service was friendly, food pretty healthy. The flavors melded together so nicely and the beef was tender and sweet to compliment the sauces. My husband also enjoyed his grilled chicken rice bowl. I'll be tracking down the truck and taking the extra walk to the greenway this week! If you are ever able to get a slot at MGH in the West End please take it as I'm sure you would be a big hit there too. read more

Because you'd be seeing a lot of me, and I'd be seeing my waist size expand, and I mean that with the upmost happiness! Your rice bowl with kimchi rice and bulgogi beef was absolutely delicious! I have been to Korea maybe 7 or 8 times and love Korean food, however in Boston it's hard to find quality. This is the best Korean food I have had in my life, hands down! It comes from a very sweet family and whenever I am working from a Boston office I always bring it for my team and my customers - it never disappoints. I highly recommend it and now have crack-like withdrawals when I don't eat it for 2-3 days. Hope they open a restaurant soon!!!! read more

I would have liked a little more sauce though, as I don't recall there being a whole lot of it. On the side perhaps? Also, and this is just me... but a little more cheese never hurts. Then there were the nachos... these fell short for me. As opposed to the thought put into the sandwich, these were like something a college student would throw together. Good nachos, in my opinion, are warm; whereas these were just chips for a bag with stuff thrown on top. The sauerkraut was quite nice, it that it wasn't overly sour. However, because this dish didn't move a thermometer, the beef and chips, and even cheese went together like oil and water. On top of that, the Thousand Island sauce didn't really work for me here. It might be great on sandwiches and salads, but not nachos.

The rice was forgettable, but considering this isn't an expensive sushi restaurant where every grain gets a mani-pedi before being sacrificed to humans. As a starch/carb element, the yellow rice was A-OK for the dish. The crisp onions were something I could have done without. Nothing against them; they felt unnecessary for me (not necessarily for you). Meanwhile, the tomato+cuke added some welcome freshness to the dish! Next time I will try to get half-rice, half-salad as my base... if not possible, I will get the tomato+cuke again, even though it isn't free. While ordinarily, I would pillory a place for charging $2.10 for a bit of veggie, though I appreciate this is what stops people from ordering rice and then getting five kilos of diced veggies on top of that! This is good and fine and would be a 4-star review. I would dust my hands off and get on with my day... but then there are the sauces. And let me tell you... sauces and I go together like milk and cookies! When my Uni had chicken nugget night, some would get a mountain of nuggies. Me? Five or six nuggies and every sauce/condiment the university had on tap! But I digress... the sauces added flavor, tied everything together, added additional moisture, and even played nice with one another! Did I mention sauces are self-service? The mint-cilantro-jalapeno was refreshing, flavorful, and had just a little kick! If you like a little heat, this might be great for you but proceed with caution (protecting myself from your lawyers!) The medium/"hot" actually brought some heat! And this is coming from someone for whom Tabasco tastes like salty vinegar! I dare not try the extra hot... I have high heat tolerance, but not that high! The flavor was okay, not mind-blowing, but combined with the creamy garlic, it was heaven! The creaminess took the edge away from the heat and added a whole new dynamic in texture. Plus, my Slavic heart loves garlic! Finally, the BBQ: I found this sauce unremarkable, similar to the BBQ sauce I have in my own fridge. However, I also realize that only some people like heat (or garlic), and I believe food is for everyone. Will absolutely be ordering from this truck again and again as long as it is nearby!

I remember when I first heard about this event. My initial thought was "oh look another way NYC and…read moreBoston can compete". Actually, I thought it was just another event New York City could dominate Boston at. But that's just the New Yorker in me. I kid, I kid. I've got nothing but love for Boston's food trucks. I was mostly interested in what trucks New York was going to come with as lets be honest the only food trucks I ever saw in NYC were the halal and hotdog trucks on the streets. And let's just say I was taught never to trust street meat. Good thing the website is good at listing the trucks and their websites so you can scope out the competition beforehand. Surprised to see almost all of them had websites. The first time this event was held in Dewey Square. Contained completely on the farmer's market island. My god it was a mess of lines and the wait for some of the trucks was horrendous. People had to plan strategically in their groups in order to hit as many of the trucks they wanted to try. Food truck competitions are serious business and apparently you call out a competition between NY and Boston you're going to pull a crowd to show some love for their hometown. It's understandable... even if the longest lines were from two NY trucks. The second time around the planners did a lot better location wise. They spread the trucks out along the less trafficked Greenway. Thank god they learned from last year. Also line control was handled a lot better.No funky zigzag across 4 different truck areas here. And there was also plenty of grass or curb to sit and eat. Now for the food. This competition has a habit of bringing an array of different cuisines. I had a plan to visit two trucks this time. Morrocan truck Comme Ci Comme Ca and Indian Chinese hybrid Momos & Buns. Most of the NY trucks had a limited 'Throwdown' menu. While I did pick up the kofka couscous from Comme Ci I would have really liked to try a few of their appetizers that I noticed on their website. The couscous was delicious and I think this was the first time I ever really tried Moroccan cuisine so I don't have anything to compare it to. But I'll definitely hunt down the truck when next I'm in NY. Momos I never got to. There was quite the line and I was not that patient. But while I was walking the area I stumbled upon the Cupcake Crew and tried their maple bacon cupcake. Wow, that was incredible. Although I think bacon makes most things taste better. In all it was a pleasant day with delicious food a relaxed atmosphere and I can't wait until next year's.

I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!
