    Vegan Kung Pao Chicken... amazing
    Steph Q.

I had a dream I could order vegan Chinese-American food but was sad that I would probably have to go to NYC or LA to get it. So imagine my surprise when while in MA, I discovered a hole in the wall restaurant in West Springfield, of all places, that could fit the bill. They have a full on vegan menu and I was super intrigued. I had chicken roll (4 mini egg rolls with mock chicken) and the vegan Kung Pao Chickn. I loved it so much. Not too salty, nicely flavored, sauce was not cloyingly sweet or too sour. It could have been a little spicier, but I really liked it. I could tell they put their own spin on it and didn't just eat up Lily's vegan pantry dishes. The veggies were fresh, the rice was fresh it was like awesome. Come here, you won't regret it.

Gold Chopsticks is a cozy Chinese takeout restaurant located in a little corner strip plaza. The place is not very big which is order at the counter with open kitchen and two tables for eating in or waiting. The menu offerings include the standard Chinese dishes & items including Hunan & Szechuan dishes and a Special Diet menu. Most dishes under $10 and chef's specialties $10.50-$14.95. 26 Lunch Combinations ($5.65-$5.85) served with pork fried rice & can of soda are offered until 3PM. 18 Dinner Combinations ($7.65-$8.35) served with pork fried rice or white rice & egg roll and 4 All Day Specials ($8.50) with 3 appetizers & pork fried rice are offered. Daily All Day Specials ($3.95 each) served with pork fried rice are offered including General Tso's Chicken (Mon), Chicken Finger (Tue), Boneless Spare Ribs (Wed), Crab Rangoon (Thu), Sweet & Sour Chicken (Fri), Chicken Wing (Sat), Chicken Broccoli (Sun). A Vegan Cuisines menu ($6.55-$12.95) is also offered including several veg. shrimp, chicken, & beef dishes, tofu teriyaki. vegetarian duck, BBQ vegan ribs, veg. crispy drumsticks, and double delight eggplant (combination of soy chicken & shrimp, eggplant, bell peppers, snow peas, mushroom in a spicy garlic sauce). There's also another Chinese takeout place (Empire Wok) near Albany, NY, that offers a Chinese vegan menu, which I stop at often. I stopped in here for lunch takeout recently. The owner sporting a VW cap took my order (a nice black VW Beetle in parked in front of shop). I got the L13 Kung Pao Shrimp ($5.85 plus tax) with pork fried rice and a can of Diet Pepsi from the cooler. The food was hot & ready to go in under 10 minutes. The portion size was just right for lunch and the food was very good, simple and tasted fresh. The main dish consisted of tender jumbo shrimp, celery, carrots, peppers, baby corn, and peanuts in a spicy sauce. The pork fried rice (light) had a soft texture with small pieces of lean roast pork, onions, & scallion. I would order again from Gold Chopsticks and try out the Vegan menu next time.

Best "American-Chinese" in the area, said the hotel clerk who was a local...she was correct! I can't believe how much quality food I got rapidly delivered to me at such a low price. This is the third time I have ordered from them from a local hotel room, and each time the smiles, quality and the value has always been exceptional. This time, I called them just to thank & pay them a complement also told them I would write a nice review because they've been so good. Beef and broccoli combination, chicken with garlic entrée, eggrolls, and the healthy choice green jade veggies with chicken and black bean sauce; these are what I've tried so far and they were all great. The green jade with chicken and blackbean sauce pictured was only $9.95:-)

Was very excited to find a Chinese place that offers a ton of vegan choices! Wish more places would... anyways, we ordered the (soy) chicken and broccoli and vegan beef with veggies... the veg beef had a different texture, which I enjoyed... I thought it was super tasty! The other thing I was excited about- you can opt for brown rice- please and thank you! Whenever I get a Chinese food craving this will most definitely be my go-to place! Thank you for adding vegan dishes to your menu!!

I've lived in Westfield for more than 20 years. I probably tried Golden Peacock about 15 years ago,…read moreand the experience was so disappointing that we ended up throwing most of the food away. Tonight, I found myself home alone and hungry, and after seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to give them another chance. The staff were very friendly, but I noticed the same unusual smell I remembered from years ago. I ordered Combo A: General Tso's Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Crab Rangoon. The pork fried rice was underwhelming. The pork was tough, and the flavor seemed to be little more than soy sauce. It was mostly rice with a few onion slices and pieces of pork. The General Tso's Chicken was disappointing as well. There was very little actual chicken and a lot of batter. The sauce was brown in color and tasted nothing like the General Tso's sauce I've had elsewhere. It lacked flavor, and aside from a single piece of pepper, there were no vegetables. The Crab Rangoon was okay. The texture was different from what I'm used to, but it was edible. Overall, I found it to be an $18.75 meal that was largely inedible. While I appreciate the friendly service, the food simply wasn't for me, and unfortunately my second visit didn't change my opinion.
