Ordered Sesame Chicken lunch special with Lo Mein, Chicken with Vegetables lunch special with Lo Mein, an order of Crab Rangoon and and order of Chicken Lo Mein for a scheduled delivery. The food was hot & fresh, arriving right at the scheduled time. It tasted delicious too. We've had an issue finding the kind of Crab Rangoon we like since moving the area 3 years ago, so here's more details on theirs: it is generously filled, slightly sweet, we didn't notice any green onion in it and maybe a hint of crab flavor/pieces but not much. It's fried nicely and not overly crispy. The only downside of the restaurant was paying the additional fee for Lo Mein but the Sesame Chicken lunch had Fried Rice instead. I believe we have FINALLY found our go to Chinese restaurant for takeout. We've tried many, many others in the area and we're not impressed. We ordered online for pickup. When I got there, our food was ready. The lady working was super nice. I ordered the Orange Chicken and Pork Fried Rice, hubs and Beefe and Broccoli, and the teen had Sweet and Sour Chicken. The food here has been great with every order I've placed since finding them in 2008. I came for the Singapore Noodles and stayed for the great variety of their other dishes. The service is just the lady up front and she's on top of everything. This place is 90% take-out and delivery since it arrives piping hot because they make everything fresh to order. Out shopping with family and decided to grab lunch at Gold Lion. Wow! We were super impressed with our food! We all ordered the lunch special of Shrimp and Vegetables. Came with choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup and choice of egg roll or Crab Rangoon. Egg drop was piping hot and delicious! Our entree was full of vegetables-baby corn, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, bamboo shoots, pea pods, along with a delicious sauce and several good shrimp. The Crab Rangoon was slightly sweet which we love! If you have slept on this place, forgot about it or never tried it I say give it a chance. Well, what can I say about this place except that it's my favorite Chinese restaurant in the metro so l'm probably gonna be a little biased. I've been going here for 25 years now and it's been the same two families as far as I can remember that run it. I am a huge fan of their pan Fried noodle special. They aren't overdone and there's not a ton of sauce to make it soggy, just right. The lo mein's are very good as is the appetizers, especially the dumplings. Also, their pepper beef, pepper pork and twice cooked pork are very satisfying and you get enough for a second meal, just enough heat from the pepper to make it enjoyable. Their seafood plates are delicious and it seems like the vegetables at this place are a lot fresher than most others. And I can't forget the house special soup. Forget chicken and noodle for comfort soup their house special soup is phenomenal. I always make it a little spicy and have them add broccoli to it. My wife and I would get two or three of the big containers of it just to have it at the house. I think it's mostly to go and Deliverv. They are very friendly and the food comes out fast and nice and hot. Don't expect a fancy place, just a good old fashion Chinese restaurant. Try the food and you will see. read more

Decided to try something else besides the chain Chinese fast food and landed here. Ordered sweet and sour chicken, an order of crab Rangoon and egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was delicious with lots of egg whites stirred in and the crab Rangoon stuffed well. The sweet and sour sauce was good and chicken was crisp. However. on opening my prize, there were about 8 bits of protein, an amount of brown sauce you could swim a few laps in, celery cut to mammoth proportions, and enough onions to make about 12 French onion soup bowls. Their must have been a special on onions this week at the market. Chow mein noodles should be the crisp version of the thin soft noodles. what arrived was a bag of fried wanton strips. So disappointing. That's the last straw! I will never order from this business again! I ordered dumplings to be delivered to my home, it would be a cheaper delivery service charge if I use their delivery driver compared to Grubhub,etc. Estimated delivery time was 25-35 minutes, the driver did not delivery the food until an hour later. When the driver showed up and ring the door bell, I told him to leave to food on the chair outside since I already paid for it. He starts yelling and screaming, walking to the side of my house, yelling. I told him again to just leave my food on the chair, he seemed like he was about to get back in his car and drive away so I yelled at him to leave my food on the chair, and he still refused. Thinking he probably did not understand or maybe their delivery policy was to hand the food the customer, I went to the door to get my food and he handed me my receipt and said "no tip". I loved this restaurant. Food was always piping hot. Today I attempted to place an order. Spoke with the lady to do delivery. I normally pay with a card. She said they can only accept cash. Said I had my bank take my money back the last time. The last time I ordered I was charged twice. So my bank reached out to me and said I was charged twice. So I told them to reverse one of the charges. I only pay with credit card. I never carry cash. She argued with me nonstop saying I took money from them which is not true at all. I feel I need to update my review. We honestly have tried every Chinese establishment within a 5 mile radius of our home and none come close to being as good as Gold Lion. The honey chicken is the best I've ever tasted. Which is saying a lot since my go-to dish has always been steamed chicken and broccoli, and absolutely nothing fried! Their honey chicken is so light and airy in a sweet sticky sauce. Do yourself a favor and at least try it. I'd also recommend the steamed brown rice, to me it has a sweetened pineapple flavor to it. read more

Its... Chinese food..? Yea. I mean, it is what it is. Its not bad by any means. Its just chinese food. They make it fresh upon ordering which is awesome, they deliver on holidays and are open later than some other places in the area and the prices are actually quite acceptable. I'm rating it 3/5 stars because I went in with my boyfriend a while back to "Dine In" but the interior of the place was less than ideal for any restaurant. I felt like I was sitting in someones garage full of storage eating out of a to-go box after ordering chinese food for delivery. The food in general is quite generic for Chinese food, and there isn't a whole lot of the chefs personal quality added to it, its cookie-cutter chinese food so its acceptable but it didn't blow my mind. They didn't have plates, and they charge you for water. You have to specify its "a cup of water" and not bottled, or they assume its bottled and they charge you for it. Also I think its tap water? I'm not certain. Most people out here in the midwest don't mind tap water, but I'm from California and Arizona where drinking toilet water is better for you than drinking tap water so it wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I asked for water. This place is great if you order for delivery only. Their lunch specials are up to par as far as prices go, and if you order up to 30$ or more you get a free 6 piece of crab rangoon and everyone knows I love crab rangoon. I don't recommend eating IN (Dine - IN) because its kinda dusty, hardly used and I only think they put the establishment up for delivery purposes. First of all, this place is always busy. Frenetic. The phone calls and visits simply don't materialize out of thin air....it's because this restaurant has a **gigantic** following. They're overwhelmed at times but always worth waiting for. It truly is an amazing restaurant. We've ordered here for many years. I'm by far not the first person that would tell you that the owner that answers the phone has a very rare eidetic memory. She remembers literally everything. And no matter how busy she is, she always has a joke or a smile and makes everyone feel welcome. The phones ring constantly. We love everything that comes out of that kitchen. This is -not- your run of the mill Chinese food. Those are real cooks back there. And they use better quality vegetables. Order one of their steamed dishes. Not only are those selections obviously healthier for you, but therein lies the proof. The vegetables are fresher, a higher quality, and cooked by the experts. Yes, you can sit down and eat there. If you're a sensitive and don't prefer austerity and a few boxes laying around (which I understand :-)) , best to order "to go" and go home to your dining room table, cloth napkins and silverware. This restaurant focuses on the "to go" and delivery customers. I think that it simply evolved into that. We consider the people that run this restaurant to be family. I'm not sure if the recipes got tweaked, or if new chefs were recently hired, but the food I just got delivered was on par with the best I've had in the area. The Beef and Broccoli was a dish of perfectly seasoned, saucy perfection. The fried rice was tasty, and expertly cooked - the grains flowed right out of the container instead of being a solid lump that needed to be hacked away at. My son raved about his General Tso's Chicken, saying it was a perfect balance of sweet and heat. The portions were more than generous, and unless you're a power-eater, you're basically buying two meals when you order a dish. The Crab Rangoon weren't picture-perfect, but their flavor was exactly what they should be - not too savory; not too sweet. The Egg Rolls were pretty straight forward, and while they may not have been a stand-out, there wasn't anything about them to take away from the fantastic experience of the rest of the meal. Definitely give The Gold Lion a try if you've never tried them, or if it's been a while and your memory of them is just kinda meh. Gold Lion is an average Chinese joint located in a run down strip mall. By no means is it attractive, but they get the job done. Mr. C and I had an order of spring rolls, which were basically egg rolls without pork. It was ok. Then Mr. C ordered the Czechuan Tofu and I had the General Tso's Tofu. Mr. C does not enjoy Chinese as much as I do, so he wasn't overly excited about his food. My General Tsos was decent, and tasted okay when I heated up the extra two days later. One of the things I don't understand about Chinese Restaurants is what exactly do they mean by fried rice? Most of the time Chinese places serve you steamed rice with a hint of soy sauce and a fried egg. The rice is technically still just steamed. Well, Gold Lion delivers the same kind of "non-fried fried rice." Is it really hard to put the rice in a frying pan with a little oil and get it a tad crispy. That, in my opinion, is fried rice! I don't think I'll go back to the Gold Lion, but then again... I always get a hankering for Chinese on Christmas! You are going to get pretty standard Americanized Chinese food with average quality ingredients. My favorites are the two standard soups, shrimp fried rice, orange chicken. I used to get beef & broccoli all the time, but have cut back the red meat. ( It was good). My family members love the general's chicken. If I could this place wouldn't get any stars!!!. This is the second time I've ordered from them and they have messed up. The first time was on a Saturday night and I blew it off cause of that. Food was cold, took forever to get it and was over charged on my card. Took 3 weeks to get my card taken care of by the way, they charged it FOUR TIMES!. Ok so I give them another try. Until today they gave use the big dinners when I ordered the all day Specials which had my order be $49 but that was not given the big problem.
