Read this review! First of all, I am not totally ignorant when it comes to jewelry, but I was…read moretotally taken advantage of at Ray's Jewelry Repair. I had previously brought in a watch for a new battery and the old battery was so old that it leaked a bit. It had to be cleaned and a new battery installed. That repair was $200 cash as he does not accept credit cards. At that time, I felt it was a bit steep, but not so steep that I did return for another repair. I brought in a 14k white gold ring that had I broken in a fall, it was basically missing the band part of the ring. The band was NOT a wide band. I took that ring in at the end of 09/24. I finally called Ray in Feb or March 2025, as I had not heard from him. I asked about the repair and was told he had not worked on it and that he would call back with a quote. I did not hear back, so I called back again and I was asked about sizing. I called back with the size and was told I would get a call about the price. Finally, I got a call a couple of weeks later and was told the ring was ready. I asked him about the price as he had not called me to get an OK to proceed. Oh, he was sorry and the cost was $340. $340 to attach a new band! I told him it would be a while as I don't readily have that kind of cash sitting around. He did offer after calling me back to let me make payments. Payments for a ring that didn't even cost me $200 and for a repair that I never authorized. He then offered to drop the price to $280. This job was worth approximately $150 after consulting with two other repair shops. The final outcome/price was $240. Oh, he did offer to take the ring apart again, wish I had done that. Go there at your own risk.

This business illegally charges sale's tax for services. If you are only obtaining services and…read moreare not purchasing an item, make sure they do not charge you sale's tax since sale's tax is only applicable to purchasing a materialistic item. This information can be verified with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration - Publication# 73. I visited Legacy Jewlers to have my wife's rings resized. Upon the initial visit I met with one of the owners, Kevin who was very friendly and was able to assist us with determining the proper sizing of the ring. He mentioned it would take about a week to complete. The cost to resize (1 size down) a gold ring and platinum ring was $120. When picking up the rings I met with the other owner, Nick. He included sale's tax even though CA sale's tax is only applicable to purchasing materialistic items and not services. I explained that CA sale's tax is not applicable to services and he could verify this information with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) which is the CA State Department that administers the Seller's Permit which is required to operate the business. I even offered to show him exactly where this information could be found on the CDTFA website since he had a computer nearby. He declined and said he wasn't changing how he charges customers even though he refunded me the illegally charged sale's tax. It was interesting to encounter a business owner oblivious to the law while declining to learn and apply the law to prevent an audit, fees, and potential Seller's Permit revocation by the CDTFA.
